Thank you for sharing your interest in preserving the heritage geese. I had no idea there was so many types. I love watching a flock waddle along as they walk.
I had a goose get really mad at me because I was feeding seagulls. It was so clear that goose didn’t want me feeding seagulls. Lol I’ll never forget that! The Sebastopols are so gorgeous.
We have only one goose on this homestead. Flipper is our mixed breed Embden/African guard goose. He protects our chicken flock from hawks and other flying predators. I enjoyed looking at all of the breeds that you raise on Moss Mountain. The Pomeranians were especially beautiful.
As always, I so appreciate your knowledge about the heritage birds on your farm and your preservation of them all. Never knew there were so many different kinds of chickens let alone geese. When I lived on Maui, I was very privileged to live on a property where the "Nene" (Hawaiian geese") loved to hang out. One year, a couple found a place to nest and it was so special to see the goslings grow up. Just thought I'd share. Looking forward to hearing about the ducks next :-)
Thanks P Allen. You grew my passion for plants and their flowers so much. I’m starting a flower farm now. I am also moving back home to mountain home Arkansas in three weeks. I hope to visit your beautiful home next spring.
Your past videos inspired us to raise heritage geese in 2020 and I was excited to see this new video. I love the Toulouse and Tufted Roman. We are on the west coast and will probably order from Metzer farm.
Allen the different and unique birds are so beautiful. I learned alot about all the different breeds of geese and other birds .I justed love this video.thank again.and Happy New Year's. Veronica
You can tell by the birds actions while P. Allen Smith is around that he has never fed them or had any kind of interaction with them before this video. The shepherds hook he has shows us that he is also scared of them lol
They're all so spectacular! I've only owned Embdens and then my one favorite ever Toulouse goose and now I'm just itching for a couple Sebastopols or giant dewlaps. My neighbor who turned me onto geese in the 70's had a giant dewlap named Paddlefoot who was just so calm and regal! And no! I've just never even met a goose or gander who didn't just accept me. I even made a video of me walking within about 6 feet of a pair of nesting Canadians in a grocery store parking lot!
Interesting and pretty birds. Those French geese look very intelligent, if they are or not. The geese around me are big time honkers and lots of them. Busy time at years end so, I'm wishing you a Very happy and blessed Christmas to you and yours, Allen! 🎄❤🦆 Cheers
I am so fascinated and always impressed by the beauty and majestic quality of your poultry! Do you have any ornamental varieties of bantam hens and roosters? They are so beautiful, and where I come from in the south, they were used to strut around our gardens! They eat all sorts of pests, fertilize, and scratch around the soil!
I particularily love your episodes on the various animals, poultry and gardening. The geese are very beautiful. In the past we had African geese, now chickens, and Muscovey ducks. I know you have worked very hard to now have this beautiful farm. Thanks for sharing with us.
Wow it's fascinating to learn about so many different types of heritage geese, they look very graceful. Thank you for sharing this great video. Looking forward a visit to Moss Mountain Farm, happy holiday blessings to you and your family 🎄🎅
Allen, as usual, I have learned a lot from you. I enjoyed the goose program. Thank you for your interest in preserving types. Keep up the good work and keep up letting us share your activities at your home. Happy holidays to you and yours’.
Keep up the good work ! I hate it when an entire species of an animal goes extinct. Also pretty sure I've seen these geese at my auction. Definitely saw some ypung Chinese geese but was not allowed to get them. The only ducks are Moscovy and they really have wonderful personalities.
I love geese. I used to have a pet goose that would follow me like a dog and slept on our front porch at night. They can live up to 40 years and will alert you to strangers like a watch dog does. The down side is that they are very messy and need a large space to forage about in. If you confine them to a small yard it will eventually become solid goose poop.
Love the video. Your birds are beautiful! My husband and I are working towards purchasing a homestead in TN within the next year or so. Like you, I plan to raise breeding flocks of the rare birds on the Livestock Conservancy list. I know some hatcheries carry some of these breeds, but they may or may not be to standard. It appears you ARE breeding to standard. Do you ever sell any of your birds to start other breeding flocks? If so, I will definitely be in contact once we are set up in TN!
I have 3 acres of land and a small stream behind it. Is that enough space to have a couple Dewlep Toulouse Geese as pets? I think they fascinating, gigantic and majestic in a way. Would they get along well with some Faverolle Chickens?
I wanted to ask how well can you farm geese in dry climates? If you have water sources for them, can you get farming them to work? Or even arid climates like the southwest? Thank you.
The Toulouse are so beautiful. But I think of a heritage bird as being good for a small farm or homestead. If they only lay a few eggs a year they aren't producing eggs for consumption, and if they reproduce that slowly they aren't very practical for meat either. Am I missing something?
Maaannnnnn… I really want some of those giant dewlap Toulouse, I missed out this year from the hatcheries… smaller hatcheries and farms want a LOT of money for them…
The toulouse goose looks in body much like the rouen duck......if both birds are french in origin im curious as to why the bodies of both these french developed birds run more parallel to the ground as opposed to an angular ground to body presentation? They look like completely different animals to other poultry
Thank you for sharing your interest in preserving the heritage geese. I had no idea there was so many types. I love watching a flock waddle along as they walk.
Jane Woodhouse they need lives reading talking adventures eating singing music
@@kelmoy6343 i use geese for my religion
It's so funny how geese stay so close to each other when they walk. I never get tired of watching them.

I have a large farm in eastern Kentucky that I'm starting to get all kinds of foul to keep the diversity alive . Thanks for sharing
My husband and I are restoring an old farm and when we get finished I think we might just give some of these a try. Really enjoyed your video. Thanks
You’re a great teacher and speaker, sir!!! Those Pomeranians are so gorgeous.

Wonderful, I have been attacked by a goose but I still love them from a distance and I am thankful for all that you do for them and so many creatures.
Yay, a new poultry video! I love it when you do these videos. And antique shopping too. My favorites.

I wish I could have some geese!
Wonderful informative video!
I really liked this video I have watched this video X2it is great with what you are doing for them.
Lovely animals! The goose at 9:23 looked a little perplexed and like he wanted his slippers and a pipe.
That was fascinating! Thanks so much...

Ooh nice and amazing
How do I have some to buy
Enjoyed this video so much! I had geese as pets when I still lived at home. They are very smart and so loving when they are young.

Thanks for the video on heritage breeds. Would a few Roman Tufted Goose be a good protector of ducks if the goose is of a calm disposition?
The Toulouse are so beautiful. But I think of a heritage bird as being good for a small farm or homestead. If they only lay a few eggs a year they aren't producing eggs for consumption, and if they reproduce that slowly they aren't very practical for meat either. Am I missing something?

Do the non-dewlap Toulouse geese also have less fertility like the dewlap versions?
Thanks.
Hello, what is the name of the book from which you show the pictures and description of the birds.
