  • In this episode of our Lost Lessons of the Bass Professor mini-series we take a deep dive into the lures of Doug Hannon. The 1987 Burke Lures catalog featured the Hannon Field Guide System, with some old school lures like the Swimmin' Worm, the Slinker, the Hannon Frogbait, the Skitterfish, and the Hannon Snakebait. We also take a look at the more recent Doug Hannon Fishing Snake!

    • How To Rig And Fish Do...
Here at Retro Bassin', we are all about bass fishing, vintage bass fishing lures, and old school fishing tackle. Freshwater fishing has changed a lot over the years, but we remain true to the good 'ol days of bass fishing, when Bassmasters and fishing heroes like Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Jimmy Houston, Jerry McKinnis, Orlando Wilson, Babe Winkleman, Hank Parker, Al Linder, and Virgil Ward, ruled the TV and the waters. And let's not forget bass fishing heroes like the Bass Professor Doug Hannon, Dr. Loren Hill, Rick Clunn, Tom Mann, Jack Smithwick, Cotton Cordell, Ray Scott, Johnny Morris, Virgil Ward, Buck Perry, Don Butler, Fred C. Young, Alex Langer, and many others, whom all had significant contributions to the bass fishing tackle industry. And don't overlook grandpa's old fishing lures! Do they still work? Each year we looked forward to the Bassmaster Classic to see who would be king of the bass fishing world and what the best bass fishing lure would be for that year. Back when you had to call an 1-800 number to reach Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's, and there was no such thing as Google Maps or Googan Baits. We still love discontinued and/or forgotten products and fishing gear from bait makers like Heddon, Fred Arbogast, Rebel Lures, Smithwick, Cotton Cordell, Pico Lures, Strike King Lures, Burke Fishing Lures, Storm Lures, Mepps, Blue Fox, Rapala, Poe's, Creek Chub, Gary Yamamoto, Fleck, Bomber Lures, Crème Lures, Lunker City, Bill Norman, Color-C-Lector, Culprit, Flying Lure, Fish World, Bass Pro Shops, Whopper Stopper, Johnson, Mister Twister, Eppinger, Acme, Lindy, Abu Garcia, Shakespeare, and Uncle Josh. Let's not forget the antique fishing rod and fishing reel, as well as As Seen On TV products like the Instant Fisherman, the Instant Fisherman 2, the Powerpak Minnow, the Flying Lure, the Helicoper Lure, the Walking Worm, the Mighty Bite, the Bionic Minnow, and the Banjo Minnow. Each week we take a different detour down memory lane: sometimes one-the-water chasing largemouth bass with vintage rods, reels, lures, and equipment; sometimes digging through the discount bins at a local tackle shop; sometimes lure hunting at a National Fishing Lure Collector's Club meeting; sometimes in the studio unboxing some old school gold from eBay; sometimes doing a little bit of everything! Until next time, keep the carpet side up and definitely fish it old school!
