    Welcome to another episode of The Eight Nine Garage. In this episode, we do a base idle reset on Frankie the Fox Body. I use the Ford recommended method. Let's see if it works with the E303 and A3M combo.. Or, will I have to use alternative measures? Subscribe and ring that bell to stay current on all the haps with Frankie.

    Did you have to swap the PCM?

      Nope, it still has the A3M in it right now. This procedure got it to idle with that A3M computer.

    Looks like you fixed it. Over 25 years straight of owning fox bodies, I've found the ignition module is often the culprit. They get really hot mounted on the dizzy. So much so, that on my 91 LX I've relocated it with a homemade heatsink. No problems since on this car.

    I think the trick is getting it set on the base idle 725 or lower. We all contribute the stalling to low idle so we try to set it higher to compensate but the computer will shut out the control if it cant control the idle low enough to learn the bottom drop of the idle witch causes the stall. Im going to test this theory tomorrow ive got a 92 doing the exact same thing heck even the a/c will stall it at idle. Thanks for the vid it helped a lot.

    I have an issue with cold starts. It rough idles for about 3 minutes and then it clears up. I have changed the coolant sensor and purchased the pcv kit and air charge temp sensor but haven’t taken it to the mechanic. I will definitely try this after replacing the act, pcv kit, and a new c&l 76mm maf. 😊

      @@89G I think it’s because I powder coated the timing chain cover and didn’t grind the powder off where it actually contacts the block around all the bolt holes so the starter isn’t properly grounded. It’s the only thing that actually makes sense since it does it with a brand new battery.

    A stock A9L computer is set to 672rpm's for a manual and 672 idle and 624 in drive with an automatic so setting your idle at 50rpm's your IAC wont even be used for maintaining idle.....It will be all throttle blade or Tom Brady screw as you call it...
    The way I set the idle is I set my idle to 600 rpm's which gives 72 rpm's of idle drop for the IAC to cover and for the adaptives to learn alot quicker.......If you set the idle to where it barely idles then the idle will swing that low...................
    Another thing about setting the idle at 600 if you have a manual and you granny shift the idle wont drop much below 600.............
    Instead of twisting the distributor to advance timing and gain power I make myself an octane rod thats is tad shorter than the rod that sets and locks the halls effect trigger in place...........I usually go with one thats roughly 2 degrees advanced..

      @thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 13 дней назад

      In addition, I suggest disconnecting the spout connector while the idle air solenoid is disconnected. This keeps the ecm from manipulating ignition timing, that way it's not working against you.
