This is obviously Eurythmics...even with the mixed up font for the band name/logo...1983 Eurythmics "Touch" era...and my commentary is not derogatory...this is a beautiful homage. I love it.
i love this disgust in my hair. beautiful dangerous foil to "powa." there is a chipmunks version which still sounds good, and the youtube ad asks me how is my singing voice? yes. i love the flat lilts of (y)her "voice on the telephone," and how the weird timing of "how how how" sounds like waiting for a minute. several listens planted a seed in my skull, and i trust the flower as a sample of pain onto structures of beauty. or beauty onto structures of pain, the dialogue doesn't decide. "i wait for relief, but the illness is my mind." i can't wait to see the new live show! i have immense trust that tune yards are doing some of the best and most necessary work on this strange staged circuit we still call music.
At first, honestly, I hated the tUnE-yArDs, but after listening to what I first thought as mediocre I realized the craft used behind the songs and the true genius of them, and I started to enjoy them a lot more. I can now say I loooove the tUnE-yArDs
Monday I wake up with disgust in my hair Could not forgive myself Another moment spent in the bed Monday The mirror always disappoints I pinch my skin back ‘Til I see the joints Today I’m feeling like I live on a ledge At any moment I just know I’m gonna fall off the edge They say hang on I promise them I will But I don’t know for how long [chorus] Wait for a minute Why do I spend the sole of my day Looking for any way to waste away The pain is in the empty time Just twiddling my thumbs And hoping for the words to rhyme Today I couldn’t stand to be all alone I’m sick of hearing My voice on the telephone A thousand roads to injury Most of them so smooth It doesn’t feel like they’re hurting me [chorus] Oh I’m still trying To leave the high of violence behind I wait for relief But the illness is my mind Why should I wait? I’m already too late Why should I wait? Not knowing what the future will bring Is always wrecking my day I guess I’ll drown my fear and seal my fate A haze of quitting Easier to do it than it is to just sit here and wait [chorus]
In my opinion, Nikki Nack in my heart deserves to be placed in the Grammy nomination pool. It breaks away from 'simplicity' not only that- has great undertones of meaning behind each track. And this artist does it beautifully it's scary. Unfortunately bands that reach calibers such as this tend to be Avant Garde. And takes YEARS for a large MASS of people to appreciate its art form.
Started listening to them because mitch grassi from superfruit said his song of the week was tune-yards hey life in one of his videos. After that i started looking at their other songs!
This song hits my hard where I am in my life... besides that I love how she expresses everything she does through music, the content resonates really deeply with me.
omg so good. damn, i'm getting that same 'oh shit this is awesome' vibe that i got when i heard whokill for the first time. sounds like another solid entry from tune yards!
Like Grimes, she has that rare ability to bring femininity and humanity to reality like very few others. A true artist. The Girls of 4AD Calendar 2014.
This is to great. Elements of Laurie Anderson, Grace Jones old school Floyd via Syd Barrett, and much more. I'm not just talking about this song. The band itself.
and some people are actually talking about time scales.Lets face it no classical musician is she but I love her the way she is, Got enough Mozarts to be getting along with!
Is it me or is the "Oh oh oh oh oh" part not in time with the beat? But I guess the great thing about Tune yards is that their music is so weirdly brilliant that you learn to accept that anything goes. Great song.
I think it's on the second sixteenth note of the beat. It weirded me out at first, but I too learned to love it. What I mean is that if you count it "1 e and uh 2 e and uh, etc.," that it would be on the "e." I hope that makes a fraction of sense.
It's not 'off-beat' per se, just not on the rhythmic beat you're expecting. Your mind is expecting it to be syncopated (on every other eighth note) but instead she puts it on the second note of a triplet figure (just slightly farther than where the eighth note would land). Listen to how it's perfectly in time with the high-hat in the cartoony triplet that occasionally shows up in the left ear - that's what it's aligned to.
+Wayne XX Agreed. Just cause you can put the lyric on the triplet of the beat doesn't mean you should. Ugh. Not natural.Sounds like they're goofing up for a minute.
nice to hear her going down more of a ballad direction with this one.
Yes en inglés
And with that nice, smooth R&B chorus.
Okay
aNtUnEy-yArDaNo
This is one of her best for sure me thinks
Just got the Nikki Nack CD as Fathers Day gift. GREAT!

"the pain is in the empty time":) thank you for this clarity of vision

kelsey mccammon me too, what’s the bizness
I come back once a month just for the line "1000 roads to injury; most of them so smooth it doesnt seem like they're hurting me"
Monday
I wake up with disgust in my hair
Could not forgive myself
Another moment spent in the bed
Monday
The mirror always disappoints
I pinch my skin back
‘Til I see the joints
Today
I’m feeling like I live on a ledge
At any moment I just know
I’m gonna fall off the edge
They say hang on
I promise them I will
But I don’t know for how long
[chorus]
Wait for a minute
Why do I spend the sole of my day
Looking for any way to waste away
The pain is in the empty time
Just twiddling my thumbs
And hoping for the words to rhyme
Today
I couldn’t stand to be all alone
I’m sick of hearing
My voice on the telephone
A thousand roads to injury
Most of them so smooth
It doesn’t feel like they’re hurting me
[chorus]
Oh I’m still trying
To leave the high of violence behind
I wait for relief
But the illness is my mind
Why should I wait?
I’m already too late
Why should I wait?
Not knowing what the future will bring
Is always wrecking my day
I guess I’ll drown my fear and seal my fate
A haze of quitting
Easier to do it than it is to just sit here and wait
[chorus]
Yep, that's my day today ..x
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay new Tune Yards album!!!!!
In my opinion, Nikki Nack in my heart deserves to be placed in the Grammy nomination pool. It breaks away from 'simplicity' not only that- has great undertones of meaning behind each track. hahahaha
They opened for Arcade Fire in Edmonton last week. I did not know who they were but I loved them. Count me in as a new fan!
I just found tune yards. They're such a fucking trip haha. Reminds me of animal collective.
J Bruce ya, except ac's 10x better than garbus's garbage
J Bruce yea, anyone that tries to say AC is good live must be higher than the band when they're performing. don't get me wrong, im obsessed with AC
Neon Ghost I disagree, I love the edge that AC add to their live set, especially the show material they did before MPP.
C9R9D reminds me of Basement Jaxx.
Best song of all time right now lol I love me some Miss Garbus
I love this song so much. This describes so much of how I used to feel and still sometimes feel.
Started listening to them because mitch grassi from superfruit said his song of the week was tune-yards hey life in one of his videos.
After that i started looking at their other songs!
Loving this so much. Hoping for a show in Detroit this summer.
Captured me from the top. Tight tunes!
Damn. Brilliant as always. These lyrics hit hard.

I pre-ordered , can't wait !!!!!
This song hits my hard where I am in my life... besides that I love how she expresses everything she does through music, the content resonates really deeply with me.

I really can't WAIT FOR A MINUTE for this album to drop! Great song and I love the feel/sound of it! Great job!
omg so good. damn, i'm getting that same 'oh shit this is awesome' vibe that i got when i heard whokill for the first time. sounds like another solid entry from tune yards!

great synths and vocal harmonies...STELLAR
Lyrics are dark and rad, love it
Loved the song! A little more mellow then I expected but it was top notch!
last night saw them open up for Arcade Fire, i'm pretty sure this is the song they performed. sounded so dope live. trippy

This is to great. Elements of Laurie Anderson, Grace Jones old school Floyd via Syd Barrett, and much more. I'm not just talking about this song. The band itself.
I fell into an emotional hole by listening to Scott Matthew this weekend but pulled myself out of it by listening to tune-yards.
this album comes out a day after my bday and i am super stoked
Happy birthday!
David Adams thank you, kind internet stranger! :-)
love this music :3
great stuff
"A thousand roads to injury. Most of them so smooth it doesn't feel like they're hurting meee." 😯
Finding Carter Has Brought Me To Being A Fan (:
Yeah especially when you are stoned with them during that scene. hehehe *-*
and some people are actually talking about time scales.Lets face it no classical musician is she but I love her the way she is, Got enough Mozarts to be getting along with!
Good jams
Awesomenessnessness.
ESTÁ CANCIÓN ESTÁ BIEN JEBI
Best weirdest musician girl right now.
Now that award goes to "planningtorock" and it sounds horrible.
LOL THE WATER FOUNTAIN AD CAME UP WHEN IM WATCHING ONE OF HER VIDS
YES
Muero en paz
In love with Merrill garbus
This is a weird video but a very good song! OH my!
Who are you?
that voice
Make it available on Spotify please _/\_
YESSSSSSSSS!
Fantastic song. It seems to me that this about depression and suicide
Amy Grant "Baby Baby" vibes... "Stop for a minute" = "Wait for a minute"
Monday I wake up with disgust in my head~
It took me way too long to notice that this isn't a still picture
Polarising musician is Merrill
But there's no doubt she is talented
i watched the video for a minute expecting something to happen. hopefully i'm not the only one.
You didn't wait for a minute
how is there no lyrics video for this song ?
I was in middle school 😢
Thank you Tune Yards for the years of entertainment 🙏💕
Happy SO MUCH good music is coming out again, definitely gonna be a summer for great live shows!
if you havent seen them live....well you dont k now half of talent they have. this has nothing on their live performances.
I have to say, if I didn't see them live about 6 weeks ago, I wouldn't have given them a second listen. I'm glad I did.
Is it me or is the "Oh oh oh oh oh" part not in time with the beat? But I guess the great thing about Tune yards is that their music is so weirdly brilliant that you learn to accept that anything goes.
Great song.

Jacob Lundy
you are correct. at the start of the measure, there's a 16th rest and then comes the "oh"
it's actually the middle eighth of a triplet figure
Why won't it play?
Merrill trying to summon the ghost of Bjork
Merrill killed Bjork?
They are radically different musicians; each with a unique quirkiness which should not be regarded as a marketable product.
i miss her rocking the stache
fingers krossed the whole thing is gonna match this
this song reminds me of my crush :(
k
Mtg_-1 ok
this gon' be hot
Finding Carter brought me here :)
Genevieve Vu I came here because of a melon
Powa pt. 2
hot
Her voice reminds me of Roberta Flack.
I hear plenty of Moloko in this, especially in the chorus.
Nice mention for Moloko. And yeah, this does have some of their vibe.
Finding Carter brougth me here
:)
This is proper good, yeah? None of that tepid hipster shit, just real, light footed, spacey electronic music goodness.
i have the head of the most interesting man in the world
Lummy, Clay! Your head must look very similar to a grape on a cockytail stick.
the chorus is jarring
isso é ruim!
Is that a chic or a dude??
Ahh a very talented lady! Now I have seen more than one crazy video, lol! :)
Teen wolf brought me here
i'll sum it up in one ....shat
would be a dope track if it wasn't ruined w/ the off-beat "i'll i'll i'll i'll". why?!
2,526 people seem to disagree.
It's not 'off-beat' per se, just not on the rhythmic beat you're expecting. wrong terminolgy; but it bothers me all the same
all masochists
+Wayne XX Agreed. Just cause you can put the lyric on the triplet of the beat doesn't mean you should. Ugh. Not natural.Sounds like they're goofing up for a minute.
Beauty of song, shit of album
