I teach middle school choir, and this is my favorite example to show them of "what to do!"
When I sang this piece with my choir, I couldn't stop getting creeped out by the lyrics. But this performance is just so incredible, that I can't believe that we did this piece! The energy really does make it feel more comfortable than just the lyrics huh.
Great art comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable.
Imagine going into big public spaces and singing this like a musical with a big choir just harmonizing and jumping and clapping🤩

I love when choirs have an energy to their bodies while singing! As my middle school choir director would say: they aren't singing telephone poles!
My class did this at one point and I gotta say, it's by far the most fun song we did that year and probably my favorite song I've done in all my time being in a chior. Just everything about the song is so fun to preform

came across the Tune Yards song within the last few months and fell in love. Saw this as an autofill on youtube. I know it was 3 years ago but this expertly adapted version made me want to throw a fit of revelry. I can only hope Merrill Garbus has seen this incredible cover. Chills. Chills so deep they make me glad to be a human. Congratulations, to not only this group of incredibly talented vocalists but their breath and force, Ms. Tennant. Don't know ya, wish I did. Well done. Well well well well WELL done. Not to mention the masterful arrangement by Kristopher Fulton - magnificent!

this song, I"m sorry, but it sounds like a fricking seizure-it's fricking horrible but the youth singing the song has a lot of energy and are really good
