Hi Buzz, from Houston, TX! I love your great attitude about a bunch of friends that you have never met before, telling you that we feel you spend too much on groceries. Your channel is so timely for me, and I am sure all who watch you. Common sense mixed with humor and a great personality! Please know, we just want you to succeed and we don't want to lose you going back to a job!! I hope you and Mrs. Buzz have a lovely week!
I love the video, Buzz. I did an October Grocery Budget with some of my RUclips buddies. Our goal was to spend $50.00 per week. I'm a widow living alone. I included cat food, cat litter, household cleaners, and personal toiletries in my budget. I ate one meal out and bought some fresh flowers and a houseplant. I wanted to keep my budget under $400.00. I actually did it. I spent $333.00 for October. Spend what you wish on groceries. The experiment for October was a fun project. I will do it again in November to see if I can do it.
I watched the one where your asparagus cost you $3 something. I just can't pay over $8 for a bag. You had eggs, potatoes and your yogurt. You did well!
Hi Buzz! You make me laugh with your Sam's Club hauls because I see myself getting a bit excited about our grocery purchases too lol. And that excitement is just one facet of us showing how old we're getting lol! Thanks for keeping it fun!
Thanks for sharing your weekly grocery items. Always interesting to see what you pick up. I track things like dishwasher pods and toothpaste as “household/misc items not grocery. You may want to separate these type of things out to help you manage your $150 per week grocery list. Just a thought. Cheers from Calgary!
Our plumber told us not to use the laundry or dishwasher pods, as the film that they are wrapped in ends up clogging up the systems. He said many of the service calls he goes on are caused by the pods. Also, that the old school powder detergent and dishwasher detergent is actually the best to use. And the least expensive! Win win! Great videos Buzz.
I never want to comment on someone’s food hall, but hey, its friday night! Just a couple of thoughts…... 1]shredded cheese has nasties in it to stop it clumping and I know the big boxes sell those big blocks-o-cheese which by the pound is about half the cost of shredded. Cut down the big block into smaller blocks maybe 2", freeze your small blocks then shred quart size bags in fridge when you need it. I know you do try to eat healthy. You’ll save lots. 2]butter is the simplest thing you can make and you can make it healtier as you want including organic. Only takes 5 min tops and a stick blender. I do like keregold but home made is twice as nice. Happy Weekend.
Don't tell anyone but I eat stick pretzels, loaded with salt, and dip them in salted Kerry Gold and get this, my doctor lowered my BP meds last month. Go figure.
I really enjoy watching your videos. You seem like a genuine, rational, intelligent person - the kind of neighbor I wish I had! Keep up the great work and all the best to you and Mrs. Buzz.
You did great! We went to Costco yesterday. It's 230 or so miles round trip. We said, "It would be great if we could spend less than the usual $400ish we typically drop when we go. We spent $575. :( Now, that wasn't all food/home goods. Some Christmas shopping wound up happening, and we invested in some well priced discounted meats which we didn't anticipate beforehand. Then there's my cheese and nuts habits. I buy at least 2 bags of raw pecans everytime we go. If I don't watch it, and I rarely do, I can go through a bag every week. I think they're 2 lbs. Better luck to us next time! We use both Kirkland and Kerrygold butter. I will sometimes cut little pats off cold Kerrygold and let them melt in my mouth. Sooo good!
Thank you for sharing. Is there an Aldi nearby? Lower prices and fresh produce. They don't have everything but a great place for cheese, meats, and veggies.
Hi Buzz, I enjoy watching your food video hauls. I often wonder how you put it together to make a meal plan?? I’d be interested in seeing what you are eating because all of it looks just like stuff that I know I probably shouldn’t eat. It certainly takes time to find your footing and begin to plan what you’ll buy before leaving the house. The learning process is the journey. Wonder who does the cooking at your house??
Buzz funny you mention the carbs. I cut out carbs from my life three weeks ago. I've lost 25+ pounds, blood sugars are perfect and on top of that the food costs have gone down since I'm not in the pantry 😂. On a serious note - I've never felt better. It's good for the type 1. Doctor is gonna be stunned!
We are suckers for Kerrygold butter, also!! It's the only kind we buy. I stock up for a year when it goes on sale this time of year at Costco or Sam's. I keep it in the chest freezer and it's as good as new when we get a new box out. :)
I'm impressed. We don't have Sams club here but do have Costco but being single it doesn't make sense for me. I buy at my local store and want to get better at looking for coupons and things on sale. I have concentrated on buying onlyl what I went to the store for, not perfect on that but not bad. Also, I took your lead and bought the variety pack of chips and stuff; portion control does help with those.
I would by block cheese and grate my own much fresher. pre package grated cheese has a slight coating on it. Its great occasionally when youre more in a hurry. But cheaper and better for you to grate it.
We made our trip to Sams yesterday....just wow! We hit 400.00! We love to take Sunday drives in our old pickup truck and it gets messy hauling stuff home when wet and rainy during the winter....so sunny skies yesterday and we stocked up on paper goods....paper towels, toilet paper and paper plates....enough until the first of April. (Spring here!) It adds up quickly but we have storage room on our basement shelves. We stocked up on 4 cases of drinking water too. We use an envelope system and keep our extra we saved out of previous weeks budget to make this type of haul possible.
You gotta eat big BUZZ. That's a lot of Velveeta man but I'm hungry now. Fry some of those potatoes, smother with the Velveeta and open one of those dead chickens and BAM you got a meal.
Im amazed at the low price per unit when you go down the isle for restaurant size goods ,sometimes its cheaper to use what you can and throw away the unused surplus
@ can you show me the app for local sales i look but could not find it on your vid……btw i was referring to large sizes of things like pickles or salad dress is real cheap per unit ounce but i would never use it up before it spoils where as a normal size bottle is outrageously higher per unit
Have you tried the Costco Kirkland brand grass fed butter? It is really fantastic and it’s supposed to be comfortable to the Kerry Gold, so yummy! Live the videos, keep em coming! Do you guys typically meal plan?
I think we bought that once and she didn't care for it. She has better taste buds than I do. We don't meal plan as much as we should. I'm more organized that way and want to do that this winter since I'll be inside more but I need to tread carefully.
Through 10 months, I have still been able to keep my food bill at $120 a month. Bulk buying at Costco and using digital coupons at the various local grocery stores. Here in the SF Bay Area, we have a store called Smart and Final that I can find great deals on produce and chicken. Even cheaper than Costco without having to buy in bulk.
My wife shops Smart and Final too. She refuses to pay the membership fees at Costco and Sam's and shops the ads for up to four stores a week. What else are you going to do in retirement? :)
I found out that Sam's Club and Costco may not always be the cheapest places to buy food. Some grocery stores are cheaper on certain items when they have special sales.
I take those same potatoes, cube them to potato salad size, cook to desired texture, drain, coat with Marzetti classic ranch dressing. IMO makes the easiest and best potato salad. If you want to really dress it up, take cooked, drained, crumbled bacon and add in to the mixture. Just a suggestion for Mrs. Buzz..
I think your Sam’s Club run was right on target. The only way I would have improved the run. Would be buying less vegetables. All kidding a side great job.
Wife and I went to get some stuff we forgot at a local grocery. Pound each of sausage and bacon, some potato salad, small bag of chips. $38.00 freaking dolla.
Buzz...save your cardboard. They say now that if you eat 4 sheets of cardboard a day you'll live forever. Well, maybe not forever, but it will feel like forever by about the 2nd week.
Buying provisions ie foods is the same as banking it just make sense instead of eating out everyday as some yahoo’s do paying tip and tax buzz u do u freeze butter yes can do enjoy your video don’t forget the people watching you get free while purchasing your goods if you go Walmart it can be hilarious
You did great! Thanks for this video! The only thing I would pass on is packaged salads. They contain the worst which is soybean, canola, all the bad seed oils banned in other countries. Avocado, Extra Virgin & Coconut Oil are safe.. Nothing can be worse for you than seed oils. I'd eat a Twix bar, probably better for you. Your cheeses are pretty bad, I'd for for the KerryGold Cheese. It's pretty much cheddar cheese but goes SO MUCH further. It's much more solid so you need much less of it for all your needs. I 've not been successful with produce from Costco so we buy it at the Farmers Market half the year, otherwise a mom & pop health food store. I try to keep track of what is Bobby approved too. We also brush our teeth with tumeric powder & baking soda. We use toothpaste, not that sugar stuff you bought but some natural kind about 1x a week. The difference is it wards off cavities being anti-inflammatory.
Aldi's grass fed ground beef is about the same price (cheaper when on sale). And to me their Pure Irish Butter is as good as Kerrygold, although I do by both. I really think you should try Whole Foods too. Their organic cauliflower is cheaper per head when on sale. Their prices overall are REALLY good, esp. the 365 house brand. And quality is excellent. I've said before I spend money on some pretty bougie stuff there, but don't spend as much on food as you do even counting my meat and dairy from local farmers. Thanks for the share.
If you want to cut your grocery bill you have to eat what's on sale for that week. This week in my area, .99 a pound pork butt roast, .99 a pound whole chicken, 1.59 a pound pork loin roast, .99 a pound apples and pears. You create your menu for the week around the sales and buy a little extra to put in the freezer for another week or next month when there aren't any good sales. Between your regular groceries and eating out you are spending your Wife's entire SS check on food. From you other video regular groceries were $1089 and eating out was $173 for a total of $1262, your Wife's whole SS check.
i compare prices between local supermarket and wholesale club and about half the time the supermarket is cheaper especially with sales and i get meat at restaurant supply they have good prices and specials and sell to public. I found bjs wholesale has smaller packages, so it won't go bad before we use it half the food at wholesale clubs are way too big for just 3 of us to eat before it goes bad.
You and I would get along well. Just the two of us living in a 55+ community and so many go to the big box and waste and waste and waste. I had friends who bought a very large condiment at Costco. They used it once and didn't like it. They gave it to us. I happened to find a much smaller version of it at another store. They wasted so much
For Heaven's sake, make your salad from scratch Buzz! You'll save a ton. Pro tip from Mother: Go to your local Whole Foods for milk. It's the cheapest you'll find. Just don't touch the $28 organic almonds on the way to the cash register.
Would have to buy 3 types to match what's in the bags. There is a Wole Foods 20 minutes away, but we only use milk for coffee and a splash on cereal. If I get out that way, I'll stop in.
Do you ever go to Gibbs or Jaworski's meats on Pearl Rd.?Thank you for sharing your shopping items. I spent too much on Cascade Platinum Plus from Amazon a few months ago.
Last time I was at Jaworskis was last year when my wife wanted duck soup. Chanina or something like that. A polish favorite. Not for me! There's a fish store right there too where I got my clams. Real clean place.
How much of that total is JUST food ? I split mine up. total for food total for non. I have kept track monthly for the past 5 years (with receipts kept) and notate each month where I bought, how much $ spent, If there were any great sales, what was purchased to stocking up and who we had over during the month for dinner. So far for 10 months I am at 3619.32 averaging 361.93 a month. January is always my cheapest month so in 2024 it was 78.24 BECAUSE we still had so much food from the holidays and what I had in the pantry there wasn't much need to do my regular shopping. August was my most expensive at 597.21 as I stocked up a lot for the freezer, canning and there were some really good sales at the store. I RARELY shop at Costco not smart shopping for Seniors IMHO
Buzz do you have an Aldi by you? I do not belong any membership stores because you have to save at least $50 or $110 to cover the cost of the membership. I know you probably can save that maybe on a big ticket item.
Yes. I'm going to recon Aldi's Monday. Take my pad and paper and start some comparisons. I've been in there a few years ago and wasn't impressed. Sams automatically gives me 2% back on everything I buy. That easily pays my membership fees. I use a Costco credit card to pay for everything in my life and I'm up to $400 plus this year and I think they give me a credit early next year so it could be over $500 by then.
We spend about a $100 + or - a week on the two of us. Inevitably that leads to a $20 grocery run mid week lol. We also eat out once or twice a week (in the budget) but the thing i hate is our waste. If i put a $ figure on things we buy that go bad or we just get tired of eating....easily $10 a week or more. Stuff in our pantry...man, ive found things in there 4 years past expiration. Things we have a one time use for or craving and then not use it again, bread flour, organic coconut something, etc. Waste really bothers me. Id be interested to know if you track that or even how you avoid waste.
I came from a factory environment where first in first out was drilled into my head. My wife would stack pantry items by putting new stuff in the front because we lacked space. I bought a cheap plastic shelf set at Ollie's and put a lot of our dry goods on it. It's been working well.
I love Costco but their prices are a bit higher it seems. Coffee pods when on sale is a great deal. 25 cents a cup. The Gluten free deluxe frozen pizza is a winner too.
FYI I saw a video by a professional plumber warning that he gets numerous cases where the dishwasher pods clog up the dishwasher drain, I quit using them!
$600 in November??? Thanksgiving month??? Going to be tough! I get groceries on Friday and there are 5 Friday's in Nov so I've got $900 budgeted for groceries this month.
Could we see your fridge and refrigerator…maybe you are buying more food than the necessary for a week. We are two people and spend $120 per week at Aldi ‘Thanks 😊
That sounds not true. My parents eat processed food . I’m 63. They’re 85 and 87. And heathy and living in the house they built in 1967. Moderation is the key. I couldn’t afford $1000.00 every two weeks …. :(. ❤️🌵
Keep those awesome videos coming Buzz! Here's a tip that has saved me a TON of money on dishwasher pods... you don't need to buy the most expensive ones to clean your dishes. After I watched the following video, I bought the cheapest Walmart brand pods they sell and they clean as well as the expensive ones! ruclips.net/video/jHP942Livy0/видео.html
Have a look at Simple Food Simple Life for help with your food budget. Now I realize MS has certain restrictions and there are good sources for making dishes gluten free that taste good. We do not have a Sams nearby but there are excellent sources for meat and more locally. Still enjoy your videos and the disussions can be entertaining.
I love the Kerrygold butter 🧈 too mate. The Irish certainly make that well. 👍
One of the best brands!

Buzz a lot of baking recipes call for unsalted butter!
So I hear! I've never been one to follow rules. Lol
I have to look into that. Been using for years without problems but hey, you never know.
Good for you looking out for the cats!!

Buzz, Hilarious! 😂😂
I don't shop at the club stores, Impressed you stayed pretty close to your budget, thanks for sharing Buzz!
I'm trying for a 40% reduction in food costs this month.
apparently the unsalted butter is for baking mostly so it does not mess with yeast rising dough then you can add salt later on
That makes sense. I didn't even know that! Thanks. Buzz

Excellent advice! Thank you.
I have the FLIPP app now so hopefully I'll do better on sales ads.
Have you ever tried the flavor booms cherry tomatoes, they are so sweet, like eating candy!! They are more expensive, worth it to us😊
We do buy those occasionally but like you said, they're a bit more expensive.
So I gave up on Sams club and just keep Costco. If you had to keep just one to save $$$$ thouights?
i compare prices between local supermarket and wholesale club and about half the time the supermarket is cheaper especially with sales and i get meat at restaurant supply they have good prices and specials and sell to public.
They wasted so much
@@loydacoulombe1397 yeah i only get nonperishable stuff mostly at warehouse stores. half the food items will go bad before i use them all.
For Heaven's sake, make your salad from scratch Buzz! You'll save a ton.
Pro tip from Mother: Go to your local Whole Foods for milk. It's the cheapest you'll find. Just don't touch the $28 organic almonds on the way to the cash register.
Whole Foods 365 brands are some of the cheapest options on anything you will find. AND great quality.
I get members mark dish tabs. Lot cheaper works just as well. ❤️🌵
@@jamesp.7496 Thank you.
We used those but the Cascade is better per Mrs. Buzz. Who am I to argue? Lol
Kerry Gold IS gold!
I really like it!
I track using the Every Dollar app. Break it down by food and other categories.
Good goal of $150 a week. Since this was a shade over, you can take the difference out of next week’s $$ (Dave Ramsey envelope system)
I miss Sam’s club. Our’s closed many years ago. We now have Costco :)
Wonder why the closed? That's unusual.
@ I honestly don’t remember, it was always busy, so, not real sure.
@ guess it had something to do with the movement to more online shopping that Walmart wanted to capitalize on.
@@kathleenarcand3728 Interesting. Ours is always busy and it's right next to a Walmart. Go figure.
Food is easily our largest expense and no matter what they say cost is still climbing.
Yep. Some things are rising slowly, others more quickly.
What is the app you mentioned that compares grocery store prices?
FLIPP app
That's what we spend roughly 600 bucks a month on food
Getting tougher. Price of fish is at the level of steak. Crazy.
Pre-COVID a 12-pack of most beer was $12. I recently was charged $20 at BevMo.
There should be laws against that!
@@BuzzRetirementGarage The law to vote idiots out don't even seem to work.
I can still get an 18-pack for just under $17. No complaints on that front.
@@andrewwhite1968 Still drinking Bud Light?
@@mutantryeff Ha Ha. Yes, I don't care about advertising campaigns. A cheap beer is a cheap beer.
Life is good.
2:22…that 3 lbs of organic ground beef for $14.98 is a good deal…they have similar in Costco and I paid $24.99
I love Costco but their prices are a bit higher it seems. Coffee pods when on sale is a great deal. 25 cents a cup. The Gluten free deluxe frozen pizza is a winner too.
Is the app called Flipp ?????
Yes!
FYI I saw a video by a professional plumber warning that he gets numerous cases where the dishwasher pods clog up the dishwasher drain, I quit using them!
So far so good for us. Something to keep in mind though.
I was told to use the dry cubes not the pods because of that happening.
If you get the large box they get old and hard and stick together
Do you freeze your butter?
I don't believe so.
Freeze it! I currently have 16 pounds frozen BUT only purchased on sale.
I told Mrs. Buzz that today. 16 lbs?
$600 in November??? Thanksgiving month??? Going to be tough! I get groceries on Friday and there are 5 Friday's in Nov so I've got $900 budgeted for groceries this month.
I saw a turkey walking near the road so......
Much cheaper and healthier to make your own salad not buying bags of prepared salad.
Three different types of lettuce in the bags so for $2 not bad.
Now I’m hungry for dinner.
I'll cook you something.
It’s a deal.😊
😂I’m in. ❤️🌵
You should try and eat out of your pantry and freezer and skip a week of shopping except for items you really need.
I'm keeping that safety stock for the cold winter months to come.
Or he can spend his money as he sees fit…enjoy your shopping trips Buzz!
YES to this !!
Could we see your fridge and refrigerator…maybe you are buying more food than the necessary for a week. We are two people and spend $120 per week at Aldi ‘Thanks 😊
We're definitely stocked up.
Still living high on the hog...no beans and rice yet. Filipino's are experts at budget 😅
Not yet. When I lose my teeth, I'll eat different! Lol
There is no way I could possibly do this! I don't buy processed food, I eat salad every day. And I spend 1000 every two weeks.
That sounds not true. My parents eat processed food . I’m 63. They’re 85 and 87. And heathy and living in the house they built in 1967. Moderation is the key. I couldn’t afford $1000.00 every two weeks …. :(. ❤️🌵
Was $1000 every two weeks a typo?
$100 every two weeks?
@noreenn6976 No, I'm a nurse. I eat real food, nothing fake, processed, or fat-free. I eat twice a day and love to cook. I eat at home 7 days a week.
@jamesp.7496 Well, it's just a lifestyle choice. My husband and I eat at home 7 days a week, I love to cook, and we are both healthy and active
I'll get a box and try it. Can't hurt. Thanks!
I'll check it out! Thank you. Buzz
