It's such a mood boost to drive down the streets and see the holiday lights! I settle for letting my tree lights show in my picture window since I don't have an outdoor outlet.
I love the old-time lights. Brings back many great memories. I've seen some of the new Costco LED sets that you can permanently mount and change the color output and patterns for any holiday. Pretty cool!
LED was a great invention since they draw so much less power. The C9 lights I'm putting up only draw .6 watt versus 5 watts for an incandescent. But I like the muted color of the old style. I once put blue LEDS on my Christmas tree and Hopkins called and asked me to put them on a dimmer. Waaay too bright! People are doing the permanent mount, and it makes sense as we age.
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Yes, some of those LEDs can be blinding. I remember hearing on the news that a Cleveland area man was asked to dim his Christmas lights. ;-)
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Ya, send me a picture! This reminds me of a yard light display for my parents. I took TV masting and duct tape ( red white like a candy cane ) and taped 4 power cords to the pipe . I drove a pipe into the ground and placed the TV pipe in the air. I put 4 strings of lights on 4 ropes. I plugged the lights in at the top of the pole. The ropes are connected to the top of the pole. The ropes/lights make a pyramid shape. I put a stake on each corner and connected a bungee cord between each rope and stake to handle wind load. I made a box with a little computer and 4 solid state relays to send out sequences to the lights. Christmas projects are always fun!

Put my lights up last weekend before the weather changed where I'm at. One thing I did at my home is I installed eye hooks along the soffits. It makes is so I just have to string the lights along the hooks and it's very easy. I also have a really nice extension pole with a special hook on the end that lets me do most of the first level from the ground. I really only need a ladder to get to the highest peak over my garage. I love being able to do 90% without being on a ladder. I totally suggest getting a nice extension pole with a hook on the end for Christmas lights. It's a big safety improvement.

It takes me a day to test and install the lights. Maybe some of the viewers can send pictures of their lights. I would love to see your display. Everyone have great Thanksgiving.
When our old house was new, way before LED, I used to put lights on it every year. After the trees grew up and filled in nobody could see them anymore so I stopped. At our current house we only have one neighbor who would see them so I don’t bother. I do enjoy going to town to see the neighborhoods lit up and I appreciate the effort that it takes.
