I've seen that launch and thinkcar scan tools have some features that require purchases in order to use those features. From what I can tell, without having a tool to work with, those features are purchased on a yearly subscription basis and only work for the year they've been purchased for. Does Topdon do that? I.e. if you wanted a power balance feature on a launch you'd have to pay something like $100 to access that feature and the feature would expire after 12 months.
Hello, I asked the Topdon official for you. They said that the special functions in Phoenix Plus can be used normally, even after the upgrade period, and there is no additional charge. If you just don't upgrade, the official upgrade system later, and the new models and functions in it can't be used. It varies from manufacturer and model. Best way to stop them lifters is using a Range device. They are approx $200, depending on year of your vehicle. Most of the functions this is capable of varies GREATLY on each car. It's THEIR equipment that determines all the bidirectional functions. Even between the same models but different years.

As cool as the topology feature on ALL of these Chinese aftermarket scanners is. They ARE NOT accurate and shouldn't be a key selling point. Not for their price. Trusting the topology feature of these scanners can lead you on a wild goose chase and cost you precious time and money. Remember it is not comparable to OEM topology that in most cases knows the as built equipment. Thus can accurately tell you what equipped modules have a communication fault. These aftermarket scanners just send out a call for communication and tell you who reported back. If no response, it says "Not equipped". That's is not accurate and is miss leading. Not worth the steep price these companies are asking for this half baked feature. No aftermarket scanner is comparable to OEM and no aftermarket does everything well. Know their strengths and weaknesses. They are cheaper than OEM for a reason.
@@djwilson48625 Most dealership techs are not diagnosticians. They are pattern failure parts changers. There are rare exceptions. That is why once warranty runs out. So does the customer. Believe me the OEM scan tool blows these away. However so does the price and annual subscription fee.
