    ABOUT THE AUTOPSY SCENE:
I know the clothes are biomass. It's the start of the game, he just threw down the vial and died. They shouldn't know that his clothes are biomass yet, you find that out through a web of intrigue target after the game has started when they've had time to study him running around New York. If they had known already that he was super infected by Blacklight then Blackwatch would have already had him, instead he's in a regular lab at GenTek with no counter measures to keep him contained.

@@khanlusa there's another possibility: they knew he's a blacklight virus but didn't report him to blackwatch, instead choosing to operate on him in biohaz suits, because "what can go wrong, we're protected and if it all goes right we get knowledge on the newest bioweapon they've created". And when it did go wrong they called blackwatch and got promptly executed, rightfully so.

I think you might have overlooked the fact that they might have tried to do some of those things described in the video, but it isn't depicted because it would slow the scene down too much. Business wise, They may have already tried to remove his clothes but to keep a lower rating and not get the highest rating and have nudity/sexual content on their rating they avoided a nude scene as an idea, and lore wise they may have tried to remove his clothes but they were "sticky" with biomass so they were just gonna cut them off and cut through the goo and biomass instead of trying to take it off and then separate all the goo and other forms of biomass

Quick explanation of Black light(A.K.A Mercer virus) as I understand it. It’s a super cellular biological entity/organism. That means everycell functions similar to stem cells, just that instead of stem cells with poly potent capacity (the possibility to turn into any specialized cell that they’re programmed to) these super cells are like fully actualized stem cells, meaning they CAN do ANY TASK as they are right now. Each cell has memories from the host encoded into it, and anyone that is consumed after. The thing is, once a host is infected by the virus, the virus rapidly begins to consume all of the host’s cells, meaning that what’s actually happening is the virus essentially consumes the host and takes on the host’s identity physically and psychologically, the result is a copy of the host who believes they are the same person as before just super powered, because when the virus infects a host as compatible as Mercer, there are only the host’s memories to pull from.
However upon consuming more and more individuals and packing all of their memories into the super cells, it becomes harder and harder for the host to distinguish what they think are their memories and their personalities, from those of others that they consumed. In reality, the super cells of the virus are amalgamating all of they data from the people consumed into the collective mind of this viral colony. With no way to distinguish the original host’s memories and the following consumed memories, it’s inevitable the colony no longer has a personality resembling the original host’s, just remnants. This leads to the colony realizing it’s true nature, and no longer convincing itself that it is remotely human, at least that’s what happens with Mercer
I think All of these factors contribute to why Mercer begins to act the way he does leading up to and during the events of the second game.
*EDIT* : I made this comment before hearing he basically explains shit nearly the exact same way as I did 😂 mine just has more nerd psychology background info in there.

The angle they took at the end was neat, incredibly positive and beautifully human despite the game making no efforts to add any real morality system. I appreciated what it did, even if it somehow felt as if it was more on a dime to dime budget than Infamous. I remember having high hopes for the series after that banger of an end note.
I was startled and confused by the direction of the second. The ending even more, as it felt as if one could never kill Mercer even if they absorbed him. Why make such a thing into a villain when it learned to be so much more? A tragic turn of events. The comics were awful.

As much as I hate what second game had done to Alex(the one we played, their portrayal of original one that died before the events of the game was kind of on point, it's as if writer of second plot forgot which one it is), it's kind of understandable that they decided not to go into more logical direction as that would be "biopunk grand strategy". The market demanded an action game and action game genre demanded depowered protagonist and final boss ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I also want to point out how gullible Alex is in the first game. I don't recall any other protagonist that gets backstabbed, blindsided, ambushed and slapped around more then him in a single game. Solid Snake needed several games to being even close to that and unlike Alex he's much better at predicting those and turning tables. Alex meanwhile just showcases his toughness by taking all the slaps directly 😅
P.S.: Karen was "killed" not in elevator after finding all web of intrigue fragments as first game was sane enough to leave her fate ambiguous because 1)the game needed at least some characters to return; 2)Alex had no point in killing her and you don't get even a single point of XP, sorry, EP, not to mention memory fragment out of it.
Nope. She officially died on twitter account of second game where a poster was shown that said that she died by Alex's hand. Not even in the game. I'm really tired of all those "social media specific lore revelations" and "tie in comics/novels" in movie and game franchises I try to like and follow.
P.P.S.: Dana IS infected. Greene openly says something along the lines "she's one of us/she's with us". She's just infected in the same manner as Greene, not as a zombie on the street. And once again, Dana not being infected is a retcon of second game. Who needed more recurring characters. And killed Karen. And forgot about Ragland.

But what they gave in terms of the story is a little lackluster and teetering on the edge of interesting. Fun to play, has a special place in my heart, but I always wish it was done with a better budget and storyboard to flesh it out more.

I thought the twist was really good. You could guess it early on but probably didn't because it is a video game, often times they build up to the big bad final bad guy so you have someone to fight and feel good about defeating so I do think it used the medium well. And was fun to play something similar to Spiderman's venom however I never played prototype 2. Mainly because I heard "you essentially became carnage" and the story didn't sound as interesting to me from the bits I heard. The whole carnage thing is venom started as a villain but they did more with the character and turned him into a hero who has his own beliefs and you can understand why he does the things he does even if it might make prime heroes like Spiderman uncomfortable. Carnage is just a killing machine that they threw all 90s edgeyness into. He just likes murder and will do horrible things while smiling. It has it's place but way less interesting main character

I never really realized the depth this game had. I played it as a teen and the plot points were so jumbled that nothing really made sense to me. But I was also mostly interested in the gameplay. It was fucking awesome to get a game where you are just a biological terror. I finished the web of intrigue on what I think was my third playthrough and still didn't get it. I'm not sure if I'm just mentally obtuse or if the story just is that poorly presented, but it feels like there is SO much going on, and cutscenes consist of at most a few sentences exchanged, and because of the web of intrigue and it being fairly jumbled, it's hard to connect the two and the nuances. Then again my brain is currently scrambled eggs so.. Thank you for elucidating the nuances and sharing them in this video. Prototype is one of my top 10 favorite games.

Total slog with weird Invincible frames, attacks you can't dodge, and weird shooting mechanics that worked for the challenge/trials, but were otherwise un-useable for you. I absolutely adore your style, and would like to give voice to my appreciation of your work, tempered by mild criticism.
The background track with the playful guitar has a section that occasionally BLASTS what sounds like an organ. This, to me, is extremely jarring as the track itself fits wonderfully with your style and flow, but the regularity with which that organ blast comes up, shatters said rhythm, and becomes the only thing I can concentrate on, drowning out your stellar commentary.

The characters can have the depth of cardboard cutouts, but when it's tied to an Umbrella Corporation-esque villain and extremely visceral gameplay, that stilted story ends up coming across as kinda charming. So in P2 you see mercers transformations changed and mentally he is now a generic villian so whats interesting is the same happened with Elizabeth greene, this means they wanted us to figure out mercer was changed by the virus in all ways and what does the virus want..to infect everything so yeah mercer got fully consumed by blacklight abd he started executing the virus instincts and tried infecting the world again and once more trying to create a hive mind like greene. The way i noticed this is when Heller consumes mercer his tendrills blast out and the infections dissapeared and no infecteds left anywhere mean it was not a devastator attack but instead it was Heller consuming the remaining parts of mercer i.e the renaining infection he spread*

I agree with you on what the sequel should have been and when the story or comics for what happens after the first game.comes up... I feel like banging my head against the wall.
The only theory I heard that made sense... Is that when the bomb went off and we got Mercer eating a crow to grow back...
This left other bits that were less developed to also be flung about allowing the original Mercer to be brought back to life as the 2nd game foe.
Crazy theory, but makes more sense than the second game story plot progression and idea.
