@@NursesToRiches it doesn’t matter because nursing is female dominated and women don’t want to overwork on average they should start worrying when the level of male nursing starts to increase. @@NursesToRiches they should watch your videos, maybe they will get some perspectives if they haven’t already . Executives make so much money and bonuses while us working the bottom of the pyramid work harder with no bonuses. The only bonus I received was after the pandemic as a thank you for staying and been in the same hospital for 12 years before I got it. Idk If I will ever receive bonus again from this place of work. I work alone in a busy hospital prioritizing stats, out patients, in patients, ER and has to deal with a co worker bully. It’s so stressful. They're pulling that at my Kaiser also, and my unit gathered together with our union rep and broke down the new travelers hours, and proved that the manager was violating the nursing contract by not scheduling and canceling per diems and allowing travelers to work. Management fixed it. Regardless, they blow up my phone all day, everyday, begging nurses to come in and work on the day of.... so there is plenty of hustling still happening.

As a RN in CA it is very a lucrative profession. I work at UCLA and make $76/hr; nowhere near what RN's in NoCal make. I understand how it seems impossible for RN's in other states to believe RN's can make that much. Talk to travel RN's who come to CA, and they will tell you it's possible. And we always get a 6% raise every year thanks to our great union. I used to live in other states and couldn't believe the difference when I first came here to CA. From the pay to the mandatory nurse to patient ratios. There will always be haters on any channel (also trolls). Keep up the good work guys.

We recorded a video about this and I think one day I'll be tired of explaining this.
100% grateful for California. There's no better place to be a nurse where we're at, no doubt about that.
But we have zero family in Sac. We don't have our village here. Trustworthy people who can help us with our kids. Not to mention I'd like for our son to be near his family. He's at that age where he wonders why everyone is in NY, why were constantly picking up and dropping off our family at the airport. One time he cried every single time we dropped them off. We have all of the support from family and our closest lifelong friends are also there.
While we constantly praise that we should seek high earning jobs, not everything is all about money. Plus, we're not going to be working as bedside nurses. Jason is going to retire before we go back to NY. NY will always be our home. Have you ever been somewhere away long enough and you just longed your home? Lay in your comfy bed? Hear familiar sounds, smell familiar scent? Watch the rain fall or watch the never ending sunset? There's never a day I didn't wish I was from Sac and wonder why did my family choose to settle in NY. Our hometown is the reason why we met each other, it's where it all began. I want to start another chapter back home, even if we have to make some sacrifices. I hope that answers it.

Random topic suggestion: How about breaking down the schooling options? I have a BA in another field and am currently getting an AS in nursing (it was a much cheaper/easier route for me and my family). But I hear that if you have a BA you could go straight into a master’s program. I saw one school that said no experience necessary. Is that legit? Will my BA count at all for nursing Bachelors and/or Masters? While I think I want experience first, I want to know what the options are. Also how does tuition reimbursement work usually? Unfortunately there isn't but it wouldn't hurt to ask your recruiter. If the city is less than an hour away, I would accept the offer, commute for 6 months, then apply to a Kaiser hospital that's closer to home.

I don't think you realize how nurse unions work. The CNA is the strongest nurses' union in the country. Even if nurses don't earn overtime in the Kaiser system, they are still consistently earning more than travel nurses. And although we make more than travel nurses, it costs Kaiser more to hire and train them because the rate the travel nurses get paid is only a fraction of the total cost the organization incurrs because a large portion goes to the travel nursing agencies. So, to hire more travel nurses than staff nurses would make no financial sense to them. To add to that, it's also a major patient-safety issue they don't want to involve themselves in.

We received 3 deposits in our bank accounts in February. So, the earnings include a pay period worked in January. If you do simple math of $103/hr (my hourly rate) x 20 hours per week x 6 weeks (3 pay periods) = $12,360. Now, add 1.5x pay for a few overtime hours worked and 2.5x pay for hours worked on a holiday and it's easy to see how my pay alone could be close to $15k. And Monica makes $132.70/hr. So, it's even easier for her to make more money.

The channel is literally called "Nurses to Riches"... The tag line (and our about me page) literally says "Are you a nurse, married to a nurse, interested in becoming a nurse, or curious to know what it's like to live on the income of a married nursing couple? Then this is the channel for you. Join us on our journey from Nurses to Riches." I don't know what you're expecting... I created this channel because I want to see other nurses stop living beyond their means and paycheck to paycheck. There is a playlist on our channel called "The News of Nursing" where I made videos about nursing-related topics that have nothing to do with money. That is not what the channel was designed for but I covered the topics anyway. And it's also no surprise that those videos don't get as much views as the videos where we do discuss money. Those videos do not appeal to a large group of people but if those are the type of videos you want, there are plenty of other nurses you can get them from but i refuse to change the entire reason we made this channel for one or two people who are dissatisfied with our content.
