Jason I worked with you for a short duration at NYP Columbia's ED (Kaleena Soorma), thank you for you and your wife's transparency-I recommend your channel to many when I can-wishing you the best, God bless!
Omg, Kaleena, hey! I see all of our NYP colleagues doing so many amazing things. You are all in leadership positions and I find that so inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing our content and keep doing what you do!
A lot of nurses are afraid to relocate. But you guys are changing the narrative and removing the fear of change. You guys are great motivation. 35:19 Love your videos 🤩
JASON!! I got a job in San Francisco thanks to you❤I am 50 years old. I get to max my 401k at 30k AND a 457 at 30k. And pay off all my debts I get to have a nice retirement in 10 years thank to YOU❤ I can not THANK YOU ENOUGH!
I'm so happy for you. People from out of state, and even those who live in California, but do not work in the higher-paying hospitals in Northern California, do not understand that even though the cost of living may be high, we earn so much more and are still able to live comfortably.
@@siliconvalleyJT Yeah my daughter recently hospitalized for 3 wks at children's in San Francisco and the nurses either had roommates or partner. They couldn't afford living in apartment solo due cost of living.
Congrats!!! I am also in my 50s a native California living in Florida and considering a move back. I need a reql retirement plan. What hospital system has a 457? Thanks!
See...this comment is why I subscribed to "nurses to riches" and am choosing to go into nursing!! Everything about this video and the videos I've seen from you both were huge driving points that you can make money and live a comfortable lifestyle doing nursing. I can't wait to start working (who even says that...I know), have the luxury of finding a job anywhere, showing other colleagues that it's possible to live well, especially with you all as a resource and tool!! Thanks, and keep it up! I know your journey back to NY will be great!
Jason and Monica, I am not a nurse but I watch all your videos and share them to others especially nurses I know. I admire your courage, and giving heart, by sharing all the information you know to help others succeed. May God bless and keep you in good health and spirit. I love you guys. You are the best.
Thanks for sharing your amazing journey! I’m a RN Case Manager in CA and mostly working for Health Plans in various Administrative roles. UM,QM,Project Management and of course Case Management. You both are obviously both very smart people and very mindful of your finances. Honestly, I have been an RN over 25 years and so many of them are impulsive and don’t do the basics. #1 buy a home asap. #2 invest #3 save money in retirement accounts #4 find out the highest possible pay doing the type of nursing job that you enjoy. Currently I’m a contractor for Kaiser and I love it! I worked for them 10 years ago but it was a different hospital and it was just a temporary position. Anyway I’m enjoying your channel and try to follow some of your other socials. You’re the best nurses on RUclips for what I enjoy!
Are any of these positions you work, remote? I'm an RN working night shift in a hospital and I want to continue that and add a WFH( work from home) Care Management or Case Management gig in the daytime. The problem is I have no specific CM jobs on my resume, only bedside nursing. Do you any suggestions?
The problem with buying a home is that many consider it an investment but often go about it the wrong way, turning it into a financial drain. Look back at how we approached purchasing our home, desperation led us to borrow $70k for the downpayment because we only managed to save $30k prior to applying for the mortgage. Let's look at some numbers: We bought our home for $697k (rounding up to $700k). For the past 7 years, we've been paying $4,100 monthly, covering our mortgage, property taxes, HOA, and homeowner's insurance. This totals $287,000 in mortgage payments and $82,880.84 in interest for the initial $70k downpayment loan. We also got some tax savings by deducting the interest and property taxes paid towards our home, averaging around $5k per year. Currently, our home is valued at approximately $900k according to Redfin, Zillow, and Realtor.com, while we still owe $584k on our mortgage. Had we continued paying $1,800 for the 3-bedroom, 2-bath apartment we had in Roseville before moving into our home, we would have had an extra $2,300 per month to invest in rental properties or low-cost index funds. Our future plan involves reinvesting in our business and allocating a significant portion of our earnings towards real estate and index fund investments over the next few years. If this means renting an apartment or home until it makes more financial sense to buy, then that's the path we're willing to take.
@@NursesToRiches thats a smart way to look at it. Property value ROI averages 10%. Having a low rent/lease and investing the rest into stocks can easily make higher returns. It’s just that few are able to stay consistent with managing their portfolios.
Hello Jason & Monica! I’m a first responder who works in the frontline in the field so we bring patients to hospitals 24/7 and I have to say I have so much respect for nurses. You guys are our partners & we all work good together ❤️
You're New Yorkers...and that feeling NEVER goes away!!! And the friendships you make back east are LIFE LONG...NOT SO MUCH ON THE WEST COAST. I moved from back east to Tucson and, EVEN THOUGH IT'S BEEN YEARS, I GET IT!
Hello Nurse family! Just found your channel after 7 years of nursing!! My wife and I are both nurses and we live in the Rio Grande Valley. Cost of living here is cheap and currently we both do high acuity pediatric PDN. Anyways, we look forward to sharing yalls journey. Bendiciones!!
Hey guys, love your videos, I’m learning alot! Our situation is similar to yours, we moved from central NJ to the Bay Area in 2014 with alot of optimism about our future. At that time we had 2 babies. We loved California, but missed the East Coast culture and being around family and old friends. In CA, we had two more babies and then really started thinking about NJ. We’re back in NJ now, but let me warn you… you will miss many things about California. It’s the most beautiful state in the country…
I tell you it’s just a mental block. New Jersey is kinda OK but the move back to New York City. I don’t want to use strong words but it’s just a mental block. Human beings are supposed to live in a natural environment to grow kids and have time to do all the important things with your family not to sit in traffic I don’t get it for the life of me why anyone would move back to New York City
@@Liimpy Hell no. Cali has all types of nature from snowy mountains to beaches. And they have the best food there. Weather is also nice. And workers are far better protected than anywhere else.
@chrisking6695 have you ever lived anywhere else ? I grew up there and never left the state for 20 years, boy was i surprised when I moved out, now living in Colorado and utah.. my entire state of mind shifted once I left California
I am a nurse practitioner in upstate NY and I love your videos. I have a family and a young child and would be envious of all the young adults who does travel nursing or have the luxury to travel frequently depending on their family's situation. I think your family's choice to move back to NY is wise as having family to help raise your little boy is so important. Plus you are back to your roots. I always recommend your channel to any nurse students that I encounter at work. TY for all your help for the nursing community!
Thank you guys for being so open and transparent about your experiences, your income and cost of living. This is really helpful information for a lot of people!
Thanks for everything Jason and Monica for inspiring nurses like me to take the plunge, finally landed a job in Kaiser Permanente in the OR but starting at the Bay Area. I eventually want to move to the Sac Region soon! OR nurse positions are so hard to come by externally figured just getting into the system will make it easier for me transfer 🤞🏽
Do you mind sharing how long it took you to get this position, I heard it’s highly competitive to get into any of the RN positions at the Kaiser hospitals.
Thank you guys for inspiring us ! We are moving from UK to St. Helena California hopefully this year. Me and my husband always watch your videos because we know your contents are full of effort and sharing is really caring . Hope to see you there to thank you personally! May God bless you on your journey all the time❤
How can you just move over to the US from the UK ? How did you get your residents stays or green card ? Maybe, you are US citizen or got a special work permit to move and work in the US based on that you are in the medical field I assume. Ok, good luck. You are moving to a very nice area in CA. I lived in the Bay area for 40 years but 4 years ago, when I retired I moved back to Finland where I was born and raised. The good old days are gone in CA but, maybe it will work out for you.
St Helena is a beautiful place to live, and all the surrounding cities! I used to spend Summers in Calistoga, next to St Helena, it’s a tourist place. And then you have Napa and all the Wineries! Good luck on your move and enjoy California !
You’ve been so amazing with respect to transparency with regards to fair salary pay and other ways to increase income opportunities. If I could just get moving and actually do something. I hope when you come back to New York you guys can have meet and greets. In person workshops and conferences. You guys inspire me to try and reach for more income. Keep pushing guys.
Was awesome briefly meeting you at work last night! I an at Kaiser because of you guys shedding light on Norcal nursing potential. Appreciate you both!
This video hits hard. I was a nurse from Virginia (not a city like NY but I can relate to every single thing Monica was saying). I love Central Valley CA but some months, I feel some type of way- alone and isolated. It is so hard to explain.
You guys just did what I just did. I moved to Washington but I could not get over East coast. The crime, drugs and homelessness in Washington just pushed me back to Massachusetts..I was homesick.....we felt out of place too...
Thank you so much for all of this information what you give us!!! Im moved to USA recently and starting from 0. I want to try myself in nursing field and your channel grew so much interest for this profession in me!! Very challenging, but super exciting! Thank you !!🙏🏻
As a young mom myself I COMPLETELY understand what you mean about traveling when the kid is in school. My daughter turned 18, in 2020 and I had big plans to start traveling and living it up. Then Covid happened and I lost my job 😂 so it got put on hold but now I'm back. It is nice to only worry about myself and travel when I want to without trying to work around a school schedule.
Very informative video...my perspective has changed regarding the voluntary suffering many nurses are experiencing regarding salary and quality of life. Thank you for this transparency! You guys are a phenomenal couple!
Hey, I really enjoy watching you guys. I’m watching you guys as I’m walking on the treadmill. I’ve been watching you guys for maybe a year or more and I’m finally applying to nursing school in two weeks. I’m getting ready for the TEAS exam.
Monica and Jason, thank you so much for this very informative video. I am just a patient tech and planning to enroll in nursing school. You guys are so sincere and honest in this video. The work environment in NYC is different and it is easy to travel out of NYC. I just relocate to Indiana and I also don't feel like I belong. Monica said it so nicely the camaraderie is different in NYC. Thank you again and welcome back to NYC.
First, I just want to say thank you so much to you both for being so transparent and well-informed in every video and social media post you provide for all us! Your videos helped me gain valuable insight on the vast careers within the field of nursing and how to properly invest our hard earned dollars to make it go even further! I was born in San Francisco but moved to Roseville in 2000, spending most of my life here until I went back to SF for college and nursing school. I LOVE SF and the Bay Area and it's truly one of the best places to live in California as a nurse and in general. Having a walkable city with good public transport made my experience with my friends and classmates so much more enjoyable (and the commute to clinicals so much easier). Plus, I had AMAZING nursing professors at USF who truly have endless passion and empathy. Since I started nursing school at the beginning of 2020 and COVID, I commuted back and forth from Sac to SF every week, switching between work and clinicals. Through the years, I lived part-time in Midtown, Oak Park, and Land Park and they're all great areas to live in Sac. Like Jason and Monica said, Roseville lacks the diversity that Sacramento or Elk Grove have. However, Roseville is getting more and more diverse as people from the Bay are moving here due to the lower cost of living and better quality public schools. Great place to raise a family. I graduated less than a year ago and my nursing friends who have chosen to stay in SF to work at UCSF, Stanford, etc. are making **BASE** $81/hour with most of them making well over $90/hour because of shift differential. I want to emphasize that these are **new grad nurses** too with raises coming after just 6 months of starting. They all have no problem paying off school loans, paying for their life necessities, and still having more to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Our nursing unions are just that strong! I've decided to move back to Roseville since my family is here, 3 of my siblings are now RNs as well, and I have a great job lined up at one of main hospitals in Sac. I'm also now looking for a slower pace of life. I do have some people in my life who complain about the "high taxes" here and I always have a similar reaction as Jason and Monica at 24:03! You have to look at the numbers. And as Jason brought up in previous videos, we have better protections when it comes to labor laws and staffing ratios. Not everyone can be a nurse. You truly have to come into the profession for the right reasons. BUT if you are one, Northern California is one of the best places to work.
Thanks so much for this informative comment. I work with several nurses who left the Bay area and came to the Sacramento region for the lower cost of living. Like you said, though, Roseville is becoming more and more diverse, but it still has a long way to go, in my opinion. Monica and I were in Sutter Roseville filming some footage for one of our most recent videos, and I did not see a single minority walk into their ER. That's exactly how it was while I worked there. And although I loved working there, I did feel very out of place being one of the only two minorities working there in 2017.
@@NursesToRiches Yes! I completely agree with you. I do hope Roseville becomes even more diverse in the coming years, especially in the healthcare workforce because it not only benefits us employees but also the patients we care for. Thanks again for the amazing content you and Monica continue to create across all your platforms. There are not enough words to express how grateful I am for your videos and how they have opened up my eyes to the possibilities nursing can provide at the bedside and beyond. By the way, I'm loving the new vlog format you two are incorporating (it reminds me of the classic RUclips I grew up on and enjoyed) and know that I'll be cheering y'all on during your transition back to NY!
You guys are absolutely correct. I’m from Florida and I’ve worked per diem and contracts in Southern Cal since 2018. Worked back home in Florida for a year or two. Returning back to Southern Cali per diem. Work 6 days or two weeks and be back home for 3 weeks or so. If I’m gonna pay big city prices for basic needs in Florida ; I might as well go where the money is.
My grandmother was an RN. For 40+ yrs for Singer Sewing Machine Co. in New Jersey. She always lived in apartments her entire life but she went on many many Cruises in her life time.❤
@@LXT43 I worked as an RN when I was young, talked to so many old people about their life. I can tell you that 99% who traveled the world when they were young end up broke in their old age. They couldn't afford housing, their medication, and stuck in a sh!tty nursing home. Seeing the Pyramids or the Eiffel tower isn't going to help you in your old age. Traveling around the world is marketing for you to spend your money. It's sad to see old broke people, who had money when they were young.
You’ve inspired me to show the side of being a Sonographer. It’s one imaging modality that pays the same, and often times more that nursing. I’d love to share what I’ve learned in the 20 years of doing this career and how to be successful. Thank you so much you two!
What is a Sonographer? Please share. You've got my interest. I could Google it, but I'd rather hear straight from a person, vs. a search engine. Thank you 🙏✨
Listening to you is a replica of my life. We moved to Atlanta and my God I feel out of place. Now I have a child after my daughter turned 18. All my family in New York. And we’re moving back for the same reasons.
OMGOODNESS! You both are wonderful people. Thank you for your beautiful attitude and sharing your life with us. I love your broadcasting lol. You don’t care about what anyone thinks. 😂. You both have careers that are important in our society and you make a difference in people’s lives. You are already Blessed and your children have the best parents to get them through life. I am not a nurse but I love your story. God Bless you both. 🙏🏼❤️
I just want to say thank you for this channel! You guys are so informative and inspiring. I need a mentor it seems to get my thoughts together and make the right moves, but this channel is really helpful!
I admire how willing your guys are to change things in your life when it’s not longer serving you. I feel like I would be friends with you guys in real life lol
I felt the same in the opposite - the east coast felt ‘off’. NYC felt too much like a concrete jungle, hustle and bustle, expensive, horrible weather, crazy expensive housing, etc. All the immigrant issues makes it even worse. I felt and feel so at home on the west coast in So Cal. All the best to you and your move.
Everyone has their own idea of what home is, whether it's a rural home with acres of land or cityscape hustle and bustle. We all deserve to live in what we feel like home.
If somebody was new, just looking into nursing, where would you recommend they start? Certain departments and any other tips! I also love y’all’s transparency. Thank you.
Find nursing schools in your area and ask them about their program and prerequisites. You will find out in nursing school which specialties pique your interest and you will have a better idea of the type of specialty you'd want to work in.
Jason, you are the best at what you do. That confidence will make your family comfortable and set for life. I have been one of the first followers, I talk about you guys ALL the time and I will be following for life 😆
I am going to apply to Kaiser too. My sister works in Bay Area Kaiser. Is it difficult to get hired there. I really want to work there. I am currently in NYC and my license is under process. Hopefully it will be done in next 2 months.
Beware comments like these who don't give context to their earnings, hours, bedside, management, hospital, you are the anti-nurses to riches. Transparency over opague
Lived in SoCal for 10 yrs, I always lived Northern California, especially Sacramento. It’s one of my favorite cities. Northern California is beautiful, if I made CA money, I’d live there in a heartbeat.
Typical Liberal controlled areas nothing new. They beat you down and keep you there so they can control you and what is most funny is the people keep voting for more of it. Over and over they vote Liberal and it gets worse and worse. Spare me the Conservative blame in Cali and New York Conservatives have not had any say in policy they have been Liberal controlled for decades. They talk like Liberals are for the poor and middle class yet in areas where they have had complete control for decades they are the worst places in America. Somebody please explain to me how Liberals are for the poor and middle class when their track records show otherwise? If that were the true case then California would be the best place in America for the poor and middle class, but its the worst.@@siliconvalleyJT
@@siliconvalleyJTI'm a CT tech on the central coast (my relatives are in Sunnyvale, Marin County & SF). It seems like gated communities are the best way to go in California. Gated community with private security, and everyone parks their cars in their garages. The crime outside our gates is so sad- cars broken into almost daily. I see society quickly dividing into the haves and have lots in California.
Too hot in the summer. Too cold rainy and windy in the winter. Flooding is happening every year now. Homes are near $1M in a decent area. You want good schools you pay 25% more.
I'm an occupational therapist who worked at NYP Cornell, Kaiser South Sac, and Dignity (MGH). Your information is 100% accurate (obviously I'm not a nurse). I lived in Sacramento from 2015 - 2019. I moved there without even visiting once. I really liked it. I think you're doing a great service to nurses divulging this information. Also, re: working in healthcare ~ it's very stressful on a variety of levels. I don't blame you for wanting to do something else. With that said, Kaiser is a very good employer and I loved working at South Sac. All the best to both of you. I love how you work together as a team and have been together long term.
I am glad they discussed how difficult it was when they first moved to Sacramento region to find a Nursing job. It is an understatement to think someone will just arrive and be able to make this wonderful money. The area is very competitive, and it is not uncommon for new graduates in the area to struggle to even get a job. I mention this because lots of people seem to think they will show up and start making this awesome money. I am working at two facilities in the area, so it is doable, just be realistic with yourself, your finances and budgeting before just making a one-way trip. I love the area and am happy to be here, there are great areas for families if you research.
I have to say that I love both of your content coming from a Law Enforcement background, I have daughter that into Nursing, I’am definitely going to your videos with her! God bless you two in everything you do and touch ❤amen 🙏🏼
yesss you guys are one of the reasons we finally decided to move here in cali. Also when my friends are asking how it is here, aside from giving my own inputs, I usually suggest to them to watch your videos too 😊
First all off, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a 41 minute video ever in RUclips! But this right here was everything and so wholeheartedly 🫶🏻 Thank you for being so transparent and honest! I think I watched the whole thing because there’s no cliffhangers lol 😂 So excited for y’all journey!! And about the nurses “leaving” or stop being a “nurse” topic was so true!! I’m here yelling at the screen like yessss hahaha I have this guilt feeling not working at the moment because I wanted a break from nursing! I respect the seasoned/experienced nurses for 15,20,25+ years but it’s not for everyone. Anyways, keep making that content Mon & Jason. Y’all have inspired so many people and not just nurses. I’ve personally gotten so much financial better and free because of yall!! Much love 🥰🥰🥰

NY is live af! It's a vibe for sure, a vibe I never experienced living here in the bay my whole life. BUT the bay is different, my heart is here. I would love to move to NY but financially, it wouldn't work.
@@NursesToRiches And….both of those are very different from the Florida coast. It’s very laid back….flip flops and tshirts year round. No one cares how much money you make or what your profession is. I love it!!! I’m originally from LA.
I’ve been following the two of you on RUclips for a while now and love your podcasts. They are very insightful and entertaining. I have wanted to move from Texas to California for many, many years but just never did it. My son move to the Sacramento area after graduating college and he loves it. After coming to visit I have now fallen in love with it as well and wanted to be closer to my son. So with that being said, I jumped at the opportunity to transfer my job to California, but it’s 2 hours away from Sacramento and more expensive where I am.(San Jose). Your podcast has also shown me that there are more avenues to nursing other than bed side at a hospital. Your podcast has opened my eyes to so much more in nursing than ever before. Many years ago, when I graduated from high school and went off to college, my major was nursing. But it became very clear to me that this was something I did not want to do! But I always think back and wish I did complete college. But I am close to 60 years old now and I don’t know if this is something I should still look into. I am taking into consideration the money that nurses make now and where I could specialize in, since I can work another ten years.
I’m 55 and studying for the TEAS exam. I know I have another 12-15 years to work. I’m going for LPN because it’s only like a 14 month program. You should go for it! God will lead us through this journey. 🙏🏽
I love you guys, and I understand your reasons. I will forever be grateful to you because you guys have inspired me on my nursing journey. I can't wait to see more of your journey. ❤ Monica is my spirit animal. She cracks me up so much. 😂
Fun video to watch, and I love the honesty about the profession and your lives. I've been a nurse for a year, and I completely agree that it gets treated differently than other professions. When nurses want to change professions or even just take a different nursing position for more money/better conditions, there's this idea you "owe" it to society/the unit/hospital to keep working there. I like nursing and my unit, but I realized right out of nursing school it was a 5-10 year career. Long hours, physically/intellectually demanding, weekends, holidays, less flexiblity than I thought...and for not enough compensation. Thanks for sharing so openly. Wish NYC would just pay better so you all could move back!
Thank you for your honesty. I moved to AZ as a single parent in 2003 I was making 19.25/hr in OH. Travel nursing increased my salary and I work with the state and I am blessed to have a pension. I’m eligible for retirement in 5 yrs and I’m moving back to the east coast, miss family and the benefits of east coast living. I get it! This is all a journey :) I’m working on creating a business with all my experience and education … keep doing your videos it’s inspiring 😊
I moved from TX to So Cal a year ago. Its a HUGE culture shock. Everything is different. So I get what you mean. Its been difficult to make friendships here.
I love NYC been there many times. I would never leave California tho. I just love the weather out here is my main reason. I just love seeing palm trees, mountains, beaches, the views. Of course the pay i have to go where the money is at. All my family and friends are here too. There are just more things to do and travel in this state. In NY state it is really just the NYC the main attraction. Everyone definitely has their own preferences. Wish you guys the best of luck out there.
Too many dumb uneducated people in CA though. People there live in a weird bubble where they know nothing about the world outside of it. That's my only gripe. Other than that, I like living there.
New To Channel… Super Intrigued (Not In Nursing, I’m in Business; But I Recognize Other Great Business Minds’) I Think this might become one of my Favorite Channels!!!
You guys missed out on some great opportunities during Covid in NY. I know nurses who quit their jobs in NY and signed with travel agency but remained in NY and earned $15,000 per week! Yes, per week . They paid off their mortgage and student loans.
I was pregnant half that year and can't just up and leave to go to NY where I knew from past experience NYC hospitals had deplorable working conditions. We also paid off 128k of debt that year as staff nurses. The goal isn't about a short stint in NY, it's to settle back there for good.
Believe it or not, nurses we work with were making $40k to $60k per month during covid because of the abundance of overtime they were giving away. But the best part about this part of California is that we don't have to be signed on for 13-week contracts in order to earn those rates + benefits. But those perks that travel nurses got do sound pretty appealing.
@@QuangWynn2711 Same here. I am from South Bay CA. Lived on the east coast then moved back to CA before the housing prices got crazy. I still miss the culture and history of the east coast but just don’t see myself returning there due to winter/spring weather.
Thanks to both of you, because of watching your video i am already working on a medical center here in sacramento, after 7 months i bought also a house here lol so i can tell california specially in northern part is so worth it. Give it a try and decide after.
The crazy thing is you can live in a really good, safe area near Sacramento and buy a house for like $300k... so it's pretty easy to bank some cash for a few years and then retire here (in and around norcal)
Funny i stumbled on this video while watching something else. Funnier thing is that we plan to move to Sacramento (we got friends there, we almost moved there!) for the same reason to earn more than what we're earning here in new york. I saw myself in your position and exactly matched my mindset. Gotta show ths to my wife (whos also a nurse) and see her perspective. Its just interesting that before we move (or if ever we are really moving) this videos shows me what we might end up to. Kudos to both, hope to meet you here in NY!
Listening to Jason say how he went into purchasing a new home right as he landed a job with Kaiser. The same happened to me and I’ve accepted this to be a good omen. We bought our house in San Jose when I changed jobs from Amdahl to Sun Micro in 2000. Everything worked out fine. Paid off house in 20 years. Quit my slave job with Oracle (working 72.5 hrs OT per week), sold the house for 1.5 and left California. Now enjoying early retirement in the Midwest.
@@MuahMan they did it to me…so I quit. I gave 3 days notice, not the standard 2 weeks. Manager complained that I didn’t give 2 weeks notice, but told him I couldn’t continue another week this way. Management moved 5 people to another team leaving me by myself with 5 separate projects in the works.
I REALLY LOVE y'all!! This is the best channel on RUclips! Love the video and I am happy yall are moving back! Can’t wait for the NY videos! And LMAO at Monica “ we don’t need more podcasters , we need more Healthcare workers” 😭

When you live in Cali and you want to go to a warm place in winter, you just go to California, because it's almost always warm. No need to defrost the windshields before you move your car, and the beaches are quite close by.
As a mom of 7 kids, I travel with 1/2 the kids ( Hawaii, New York etc) then the other 1:2. Its the best! When they get to 5-7 years old they show YOU the best your life has to offer.

Like roads, bridges, unemployment insurance. We all forgot what the unemployment line looked like in Florida in 2020. 😢 so sad. But hey there is always someone who wants something for nothing. I left California in 2020 and have regretted it ever since! I’ve lived in Nevada, Florida, and Colorado. Every time I leave- then come back to CALIFORNIA. Once I’m back- I’ll never leave again! The salaries are unmatched even with the taxes! An iPhone is $1000 in any state- I would rather afford my smart phone than be here where average worker makes 40K…Lessoned learned!!! its why California has 40 million people. But hey let the haters hate. Those of us who know… KNOW! I’ll make more money and learn to survive IN CALIFORNIA than make less money and try to survive! Can’t beat childcare that is family. I hope the move is worth it! Best of luck!
Dang... We didn't think this video would resonate with so many. We were just like "well I guess we can talk about this while we drive around because and just post it without any fancy editing." So, I'm glad you guys enjoyed the video and maybe we should talk more about what it's like to be a nurse out here.
We appreciate it!!! I've been pushing Jason to publish this video and I think since this video did well, we might start a lifestyle series about our life in Sacramento.
YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!!! to be honest I feel mad bad when you guys say you might come back and get a nursing job......especially for benefits, because you need full time (from what I am aware) to get benefits (health insurance) and NYC conditions still suck. Maybe you guys know of another spot. BTW How did Monica feel about returning to real bedside when she went to cali? she said she was really burnt out and was nervous to return. I am in that phase. Was bedside just THAT must better with cali laws (ratios)? or did she push through it? Thank you guys!!! awesome stuff! more content like this where you guys are just talking to the camera together is just a suggestion. ❤
@@Momnicat thank you for sharing!!!! I feel like im done with bedside no matter where I go because of how traumatized ive been (more like abused). Would love for you to talk more about this. BTW Monica love you having more of a voice on this channel (love your shorts).
Rob, I'm glad Monica has been more involved in our videos and we'll make another video to talk about the differences of working as bedside nurses in NYC vs California.
If you decide to move to the Sacramento area for a nursing job, be aware that there are limited jobs there. There are only 4 hospital healthcare systems in the area: Sutter, UC Davis, Kaiser, Mercy, and Methodist. There are a few healthcare insurance companies there too. If you lose your job or are laid off, it can be difficult to get hired by one of the other hospitals. The cost of living is not much more less than the Bay Area.and is experiencing the same type of problems: crime, homelessness, and a bad drug problem.
Thank you for your informative videos. Help me to understand the part about home ownership part. Home ownership- money goes into equity and value and its not money you lose on rent where you cannot get that back. Plus the tax exemption. What am I not understanding about renting being better. Rent is so expensive now - interest rates go up and down. Thank you again.
I like the respect for each other when taking. So many couples talk over each other! You guys seem to trust that the other will add to the conversation. Restful!
U guys rock. I love that u r not afraid 2 leave the profession. I bought a rental property 2 prepare me 2 leave nursing when I'm ready. Once I have the property running the way I want it, the goal is 2 buy more. I love nursing, but there r other things I want 2 do outside the profession. These things will bring n a solid income when I retire &/or am no longer able 2 work. There is also no ceiling on what I'd like 2 do.

See...this comment is why I subscribed to "nurses to riches" and am choosing to go into nursing!! Everything about this video and the videos I've seen from you both were huge driving points that you can make money and live a comfortable lifestyle doing nursing.
Buying a home asap ain’t realistic anymore
The problem with buying a home is that many consider it an investment but often go about it the wrong way, turning it into a financial drain. Look back at how we approached purchasing our home, desperation led us to borrow $70k for the downpayment because we only managed to save $30k prior to applying for the mortgage. Let's look at some numbers:
We bought our home for $697k (rounding up to $700k).

Thank you for your transparency Jason and Monica. I'm currently in LA as a nurse, partly because of your videos :)
It's so different when you're raising kids and want them around family. I totally get it.
Definitely not the most beautiful state 😂.. way better places to live and much nicer states between the 2
@@Liimpy Hell no.

This video hits hard. I was a nurse from Virginia (not a city like NY but I can relate to every single thing Monica was saying). I love Central Valley CA but some months, I feel some type of way- alone and isolated. It is so hard to explain.

I am glad they discussed how difficult it was when they first moved to Sacramento region to find a Nursing job. It is an understatement to think someone will just arrive and be able to make this wonderful money. The area is very competitive, and it is not uncommon for new graduates in the area to struggle to even get a job. I mention this because lots of people seem to think they will show up and start making this awesome money. hey guys YOUR VIDEOS all gave me the JOYFUL idea to move to Sac from HARLEM ..I AM 17 years MEDICAL TECH I MOVED TO SAC 12/22/23 ..THKS IM HAPPY & FEEL GREAT FOLLOWIG YOUR RECIPE$$$$$
NY is live af! It's a vibe for sure, a vibe I never experienced living here in the bay my whole life. BUT the bay is different, my heart is here. I would love to move to NY but financially, it wouldn't work.
I totally agree! It's so hard to explain for anyone who's not from California but the west coast in general is very different from the east coast.
I love these posts guys you're my insiders regarding the real nursing situation in the USA
Thank you so much... Didn't expect all this positive feedback to such a simple video.
Amazing guys, hard work pays off
I love you guys, and I understand your reasons. I will forever be grateful to you because you guys have inspired me on my nursing journey. I can't wait to see more of your journey. ❤ Monica is my spirit animal. She cracks me up so much. 😂
Yes, Monica is all of our spirit animals. She is the 3rd child in our home. Lol
I make 20.00 an hr ad a preK teacher part time in Iowa
Too bad I can't be a traveling teacher 😮
Yeah, i agree with you guys
I love NYC and i miss it!
Every single day!
Registered nurses in California earn an average of $124,000 per year (or $59.62 per hour).
New To Channel… Super Intrigued (Not In Nursing, I’m in Business; But I Recognize Other Great Business Minds’) I Think this might become one of my Favorite Channels!!!
Thank you!
You guys missed out on some great opportunities during Covid in NY.
I know nurses who quit their jobs in NY and signed with travel agency but remained in NY and earned $15,000 per week! Yes, per week .
They paid off their mortgage and student loans.
They also worked 7 days and no taxes were taking out.
NYC is nice but too cold for me

Same here. I am from South Bay CA. Lived on the east coast then moved back to CA before the housing prices got crazy. I still miss the culture and history of the east coast but just don’t see myself returning there due to winter/spring weather.
Hello guys, gabby here! I love your channel . Er nurse here too. Working ca and New York . I’m really exhausted from working
If team work makes the dream work were a picture. I love how you guys support each other.
Thank you 🙏🏼
I love your plans and goals. it's inspiring. there are always options and more people should see life this way.
You guys are a blessing to the nursing community
Thank you so much!
Great video as usual. You guys are Heros to many nurses. Keep it up
Listening to Jason say how he went into purchasing a new home right as he landed a job with Kaiser.
40 hours + 73 hours of OT. Is that even humanly possible?
@@MuahMan they did it to me…so I quit. I gave 3 days notice, not the standard 2 weeks. Manager complained that I didn’t give 2 weeks notice, but told him I couldn’t continue another week this way. Management moved 5 people to another team leaving me by myself with 5 separate projects in the works.
I REALLY LOVE y'all!! This is the best channel on RUclips! Love the video and I am happy yall are moving back! Can’t wait for the NY videos! And LMAO at Monica “ we don’t need more podcasters , we need more Healthcare workers” 😭
Congratulations to the both of you!! Videos are very informative! Thank you. What car is this? Interior looks super luxurious!
Thank you! It's a Volvo Xc90 2017.
Thanks for this video. I am now convinced to move to California soon. I will have to work on my license endorsement. God willing I will be in Cali working as a nurse too 🙏🙏🙏 thanks for inspiring us 🥰
The new baby is a blessing even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Glad you’re experiencing joy with your new son.
❤Love you guys.
Thanks for sharing your story.
He really is, thank you!
New subscriber ❤ im not a nurse however i truly enjoyed hearing ur story regarding opportunities and New York compared to California..and all benefits in CA that motivated u to move here... its wonderful to see u sharing ur stories to help many ppl in nursing profession that may need this info...Blessings to ur beautiful family ❤ 41:10
Wow, that's for this comment and thanks for subbing!
THANK YOU! BRAVO! @24:20 Someone finally said it! Stop worrying about taxes! It’s not about what you pay in taxes but what keep! Thoses taxes helps you keep things nice!
The TRANSPARENCY!!!!!!!! Probably y’all’s best/most vibes filled video y’all have done. I’m otw soon!
Nor Cal is one of the best areas to work in for nurses for a variety of reasons (I'm an occupational therapist.) All the best to both of you.
I wanna talk and elaborate about this actually! I never went back to Endo because I realized bedside at my Kaiser was doable.
It’s far less expensive in the Sacramento area just north in yuba city, plumas lake etc
Thank God I found your channel. Because i know exactly where to move for a better work life balance.
Love your channel! Thank you, always!
Blessings for you both in your careers and lives
Thnak you!
You two are awesome! Keep up the great teamwork! 👏❤
I love living in California but cost of living in completely insane!! My husband makes about 300,000 a yr but still not living the high life.
