  • The Navy Saxophone Symposium of 2024 was a tremendous celebration of all things saxophone. Dazzling soloists and ensembles, fascinating lectures, informative masterclasses and a most welcome array of music new and old were just some of the highlights of this two day event. And it was great fun to meet and catch up with friends and colleagues new and old!
Thank you Navy for making this happen every year!
I was fortunate to give two presentations: A concert of saxophone quartet music for younger ensembles and players, and a recital featuring the Conn-o-sax as a concert instrument.
I am indebted to my Rutgers students, Jarod Apple (DMA) and Eyvette Sakow (MM) and my Manhattan School of Music student, Zachary Kern (BM) for playing on these concerts and making both possible. Their professionalism and skilled playing made their collaboration particularly rewarding. And special thanks to Anna Keiserman (Rutgers alum.) for playing for me and for Jarod Apple on his Navy recital the previous day.
As a side note, it is rare enough to see or hear one connosax, especially in a concert setting, (there are about 26 known to exist), but I could not resist bringing two of my connosaxes to end the concert with a truly unique event; a connosax duet! My thanks to Eyvette for re-learning the instrument so quickly and playing so beautifully!
Here is a short video of excerpts from the connosax concert.
Many thanks (again) to trusted videographer Jeannie!
