One of the things that I appreciated about the series more as I've gotten older, was how our protagonist Katniss, wasn't such a chosen one savior character who's character choices is the sole reason the dismantling of the dystopian world and that she's just another cog in the machine (a very important one indeed) but a machine that would've start regardless just because of the very nature of people of the contradictions the people in power put in place to hold on to their power, there was a lot going on in the background decades before the events of the story by various people with various factions with their own (and a lot of the time selfish) reasons for fighting the fight. And showed just how much suffering and dehumanizing , the cycle of fear and violence can be. without falling into the centralists "every side bad" pitfall that a ton of dystonia YAs and political dramas typically fall into. Its a very scary reflection of our society and the real world suffering that we see (or unwilfully to see) around us. Its especially more true after all the events we're seeing now and the release of BoSAS and how people took all the wrong message from it.
Yes absolutely. The way I see the series is that anyone with enough courage from the districts could’ve been Katniss. She has never wanted that position to begin with. It truly is scary how fitting Panem is to the current state of the world. Not saying it’s the same but there are definitely a lot of call backs and it’s very unfortunate. As you said, The Ballad also does an amazing job at showing just how much fear can control (young) minds and push them away from compassion as is the case with Snow
I’ve always hated that the movies made her the first volunteer. In the books people from Twelve have volunteered before, so even that didn’t make her special. She was just a run of the mill tribute who just so happened to be overwhelmingly compassionate, to the point that it inspired a nation.
For the record, one thing I think the film's could never capture the visceral writing in books that made me question how in the hell they were published for Scholastic. It makes me wonder what an R-Rated Hunger Games would look like, they might be able to capture the real devastation and desperation of people starving and sick, which to me emphasised just how cruel and deliberate the whole system is, and makes the real-life counterparts that much more sickening. One thing that has stuck with me for years was how Katniss described the significance of the landmines in the book, instead of just saying you'd be blown sky high she explains that a District 8 girl who dropped her bracelet literally had to be scraped off the ground. Then there was that cannibal kid, the people who died of starvation or injuries from the mine in her kitchen, the people who went completely insane, the addictions, the trafficking and prostitution for food or for safety in the winning Victors' cases, a whole tonne of stuff, really. Realising that all of those things happened in the real world as a result of political conflict is what radicalised me.
Katniss is so humble she might not be the best person but she’s so humane every time I watch her with rue I cry because you could tell she truly saw her sister in her and seeing her die truly made her become the mockingjay she was so young so kinda and didn’t even get a chance to grow up
Yeah and I think she also somewhat saw herself in Rue as well because they were both the eldest daughters taking care of their younger siblings. She deserved so much more and just like you I always cry when I see/read about Rue
wasn't she incredible? As cheesy as it may sound, you can feel the grief emanating from her almost. She's trying so hard to hold it together for Prim mostly but it's not working much (in the first movie at least).
Same with Prims actress. Especially in the first movie her screams and sobs sound so genuine they make me emotional. The cut to Prims screams from Ceaser and Senecas interview is chilling
Thank you for mentioning Gaza in this, it’s exactly like the hunger games or actually even worse. Even a doctor who went there said it’s a “hunger games on steroids”. So thank you!
3:54 not time stamped perfectly but I 100 percent agree about the Hunger games ability to immerse you into the story and the dynamics without TELLING you the dynamic. You didnt have to read the books to understand whats going on and you dont need a narrator. You get immersed into it, and like you said they brought it to life with parallels to our own society. I also loved the divergence series and i liked the first maze runner. But neither is a good as The Hunger Games.

As many times as I've read/watched this series, something has just now occured to me while watching this video. The Careers being allowed to train and their districts being afforded treatment the other districts don't recieve is the Capitol's way of ensuring their loyalty as victors. We learn about their special treatment in the first book, but see it come to fruition in Catching Fire. The rebel victors knew they wouldn't bite the hand that feeds them. It can be argued(albeit without textual evidence) that Katniss posed a threat to their existence in more ways than one and they were aware of that, which is why they went for her so hard the moment the gong sounded.

I watched the first Divergent film ages ago and wasn't all that impressed, and haven't read any of those books. Hunger Games and Maze Runner seem like the strongest dystopian YA fiction currently on the market (so to speak). Good video.
Thank you so much for watch! I do agree with this. I did enjoy Divergent as merely an entertaining movie but it definitely does not compete with this franchise in my opinion. I think it might have to do with the fact that Divergent was also written on a much shorter time frame than THG (over a winter break if I am not mistaken) so that might've affected things for sure.
Yes I was a little sad but it's okay that's how things are! I am definitely making more of these videos but on the other channel (not sure what to make of this channel yet lmao). Tysmm for your support❤️❤️
@@rama2.0 I didn’t even realize I watched your snow video on your main channel. I love listening to hunger games essays, you did so good with both!! I’ll subscribe over there too ☺️💕
There's one thing I don't hear many people talk about. It's the trauma bond and potential codependency between katniss and peeta. I never really liked peeta as much as other people did. He saved katniss, but his actions also kind of forced her to get closer to him. I would love to believe fondness grew organically for her, but I can't ignore the fact that their relationship is rooted in pain and trauma mixed with isolation. They never had the time that they deserved. By the end, peeta became almost all she had left. Who else will understand her arena and war experiences but him? No one. Gale became too dangerous, and his actions caused the loss of her sister. Katniss lossed and her ability to survive is relateable to me as a veteran surrounded by danger and the desire to have a sense of normal or something to bond with. A lot of the friendships and relationships I saw were rushed and lacked proper foundation because of the constant looming danger. We often dated each other because we could relate to the shared experiences. That environment can be isolating, too. I don't know. I just wanted more for her in the end. That's also shows how realistic this series is. You feel like the story is real, and katniss could be someone you know. Sorry for the rant. It will forever be one of my favorite book series. I loved the films too.
I've been analyzing and turning over THG for years and I just fully connected that Rue is meant for the viewers to realize what Katniss not volunteering would have meant just as much as she's a symbol of missing Prim/what she's fighting for in Katniss's eyes.
0:53 Divergent doesn't just represent a dystopia for entertainment. It presents a dystopia to analize the risks of playing with nature and especially genetics
I never noticed that Katniss reacts really similarly to Rue's age (23:33) and to Prim's name being called (23:57). She can't help but be horrified :( Also calling Peeta the United Nations of green flags was fantastic 😂
I’m so happy you enjoyed the video and tysmmm for the support❤️❤️ and yes some of the scenes were deleted clips lmao. This video took forever to edit bc I kept wanting to add stuff to it which I tried to limit with subsequent videos😭😭

@TerraJ-ug6nc hahahaha ig it all depends on who you’re asking. I think it’s unfortunate given the recent events, but hopefully it can bring ppl some light/escape for a bit
Amazing breakdown! I love when people take the time to make nuanced analysis of this set of stories. It's eerie how Collins manages to draw reference to real world history in her fictonal world with such accuracy with how this form of political power works. Let's just hope the lame and lazy "critics" who's deepest thought of this franchise starts and ends at "this is just a Battle Royale rip-off" stays at a minimum. Its the type of people that swear apples and oranges are exactly the same thing because their both fruit.
Thank you so much! I've been so obsessed with this franchise since I was maybe 10-11yo so it feels good to see that ppl still care about it 10 years later:) Collins is simply amazing, her knowledge is what truly sets these books/movies apart from the rest imo. I did get some of these critics when I first uploaded this video on my other channel but so far so good lmaoo. I mean I did watch Battle Royale and it is good but I do prefer THG personally
Thank you for deep analysis, it’s scary that our world is kinda getting more and more dangerous and capitalistic than ever before, hope it’ll never turn into hunger games
When the scene of Cesar and a career tribute came up, I rolled my eyes because of the propaganda. No matter how many times I watch, I am still picking up on some things I didn’t see the first time.
I remember when the movie came out and people were upset that Rue was played by Amandla Stenberg since they expected her to be white. I remember being the same age as Rue and realizing the not so subtle implication that the general public felt like Rue being black made her death “not as sad”. Suzanne really hit on so many issues that plague our society and even when showing the horrors of dehumanizing others people still managed to show exactly what aspects of Panem we accept in our society.
This! I saw a creator on here talking about it in an amazing video (the day the internet discovered that Rue was Black I think it was) and I was honestly so sad and confused seeing that. Realizing that your skin colour makes others see you as less worthy of sympathy was so hurtful. I am honestly just super grateful Collins portrayed Rue with so much humanity in her book
Ik im sorry I’ve been enabling them but RUclips doesn’t show them for some reason:(( my other video on my main channel has better audio if u want to check it out. I’ll try adding manual subtitles for this one after finals!!
it makes me think of lolcows online or people with a large audience sharing their struggles, people watch with intention to see them get worse and egg them on. soon, that won't be enough. they want to see them die for entertainment😮💨
I think that started with the editors too (they pushed Collins to include the whole love triangle with Gale which she did not want initially). Even though I love Katniss and Peeta to bits, this is not a love story😭
I’m so sorry about that. I’ve been trying to put them but for some reason RUclips does not save them so they do not show up. I’ll try putting my own if I can after I’m done with finals
Sorry it was my first video of that genre so I didn’t have a mic yet and didn’t really know how to deal with the audio. I made another video and the audio is better and the subject matter is very similar
Hi! I wrote the text on my own. ChatGPT was used for the intro paragraph as I did not know how to open things up but other than that it is entirely my own lmaoo. I am a faculty of arts student so I am quite used to writing essays://
It isn’t though. The book was brutally realistic. This is a distorted fantasy lense. Just like all moved based on dystopian fiction they erase brown people and make everyone attractive. Reality is that malnutrition makes you ugly. Poor diet, no food or water makes you hideous. Most poor people are ugly BECAUSE they are poor! So no one in the main cast is brown because why people see brown people in main character placements as too real so they hate it and call it “woke” or “pandering” and none of the people are ugly because of the same reason. The book MIGHT be good, there are a bunch of very unrealistic flaws in the writing. But you only enjoy the movie cause it feeds into the fantasy that in the future white people will still be the center of attention, even if it’s the end of the world. And everyone is hot during the apocalypse
I have to disagree with you here. I think among YA dystopias, Collins does the best job in representing Black ppl for instance. Being Black myself, seeing a character like Rue while being around a similar age was very interesting and touching as I could see myself in her. Is most of the cast White? Yes absolutely and it could’ve been more diverse but I think this stems more on Hollywood’s own issues with representation than Collin’s herself. Imo, the way she wrote about Rue, Thresh and Reaper was done in a compassionate and not demeaning way which unfortunately is how Black characters are often portrayed in movies and literature. I cannot speak for Brown ppl as I am not Brown and I do see how the main series lacked a lot of representation which is very disheartening but I do think they did a much better job with that with the prequel.
To be fair there’s a war happening in Sudan, Ethiopia, my family’s birth country of Chad, Yemen, Somalia and many other places in the world. This was not meant to be an exhaustive list. Idk if you only care about human suffering depending on the scale of its media coverage but I can assure you it isn’t the case for me. I do not stand for human suffering period. I do not appreciate you taking perhaps 2 seconds of my video and build my character from that. I will not assume that just based on that comment you’re a horrible person that does not care about Congo for instance bc that’s not how human character is (at least imo). Please be kinder and have a better day.

Thank you for watching❤️❤️
Amazing , I hope to write something that makes someone think this much . Keep on thinking , analyzing, we need it now more than ever
I never really thought that this would interest anyone but I am so grateful it did❤️ If you ever write something lmk I’m always open to reading/hearing from others:))
too close to reality
Yeah I didn’t expect this one to hit so hard.. good luck to everyone in the states and globally tbh
@@rama2.0 Me too, I’m afraid. But I just subscribed. Peace 🕊️
This video was so well done, I'm sorry YT took it down off your other channel. I really hope for more videos like these, subscribed!!
I’ll subscribe over there too ☺️💕
I’m so happy you liked it too!! Thank you so much for your support❤️❤️
I see a video talking about the Hunger Games series, I watch immediately.
Very good analysis, thank you!
Really good video!! :oooo love your analysis ❤
Thank you so much for watching❤️❤️ I’m glad you enjoyed it🫶🫶
Really enjoyed this video, lots of interesting thoughts here, good job!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you for giving it a chance❤️🫶
"There are much worse games to play" Katniss Everdeen 🏹
It’s so important and impactful of how this book series and movies shaped so many people around the world.
Yes absolutely! I am still not over it since I first read it 10 years ago.
I've been analyzing and turning over THG for years and I just fully connected that Rue is meant for the viewers to realize what Katniss not volunteering would have meant just as much as she's a symbol of missing Prim/what she's fighting for in Katniss's eyes.
Genuinamente amo este video, más en estos momentos, es como preventivo :)
Me alegro mucho de que te haya gustado el vídeo 🫶🏾🫶🏾 y lo siento por mi mal Español jaja
Katnis is a good example how to write a female protagonist hero..
0:53 Divergent doesn't just represent a dystopia for entertainment. It presents a dystopia to analize the risks of playing with nature and especially genetics
❤❤❤❤ this was really really good essay
Thank you so much❤️❤️
Hearing Cato speak to the capitol reminds me of the way the US indoctrinates the military.
I never noticed that Katniss reacts really similarly to Rue's age (23:33) and to Prim's name being called (23:57). She can't help but be horrified :(
Also calling Peeta the United Nations of green flags was fantastic 😂
Girl how do you only have 737 followers???? Already in love with you
Girl ily you’re too sweet🫶🏾🫶🏾 also this is my second channel so I’m less active here lmaoo
@@rama2.0omg what’s your first channel called?
@ it’s called Rama2.0 (I am not very creative lmao). So far there’s only one video (on president Snow!) but I am working on the next one rn:)
Excellent essay :)
I loved the video, im so glad youtube recommended it to me. You got a new subscriber 💚
Also, were some of the clips shown deleted scenes?
I’m so happy you enjoyed the video and tysmmm for the support❤️❤️ and yes some of the scenes were deleted clips lmao. This video took forever to edit bc I kept wanting to add stuff to it which I tried to limit with subsequent videos😭😭
i genuinely believe suzanne collins is the smartest person alive
So now imma ask you to pick 5 random numbers and let me know what companies you're getting ready to invest in... Cuz this videos timing is so impeccable it has to be from precognition
LMAOOO I just have bad timing idk.. like this is a reupload🫠😭
@@rama2.0 or do you have great timing?
@TerraJ-ug6nc hahahaha ig it all depends on who you’re asking. I think it’s unfortunate given the recent events, but hopefully it can bring ppl some light/escape for a bit
i really like your voice! hehe
Hahaha tysm❤️❤️
After the recent election, i now believe that the hunger games are a historical documentary brought from the future
For your sakes, I truly hope it isn’t
Finally someone did it
I believe you mean, the genius of Battle Royale
“The united nations of green flags* I’m watching this during my lunch break and nearly choked from delight so true bestie
Hahahaha isn’t he just so lovely??
Thank you for deep analysis, it’s scary that our world is kinda getting more and more dangerous and capitalistic than ever before, hope it’ll never turn into hunger games
what are you saying around 9:07? about keeping something low? i cant catch it and watched a few times
Heyy! Sorry my audio isn’t great on this video. I said “to keep dissent low…”
@rama2.0 tysm! i appreciate it
When the scene of Cesar and a career tribute came up, I rolled my eyes because of the propaganda. No matter how many times I watch, I am still picking up on some things I didn’t see the first time.
Hunger Game is the world we actually live in... sadly!
Please enable auto captions!
I think they are enabled. On my side it says they are. Lmk if you can see them
@ unfortunately not for me :( perhaps just a youtube hiccup then!!
@sooyoungfanclub I’m so sorry idk how to help bc I enabled them in every version of English available + French:((
@sooyoungfanclub if you want maybe try slowing the video down a bit bc I do speak fast in that one? I’m not sure if that would help😞
@@rama2.0 thank u so much for your kindness!!! I will definitely do that 💛
Dropping this right before election day 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏
Dude😭😭.. I didn’t think about that when reuploading it here
I remember when the movie came out and people were upset that Rue was played by Amandla Stenberg since they expected her to be white.
I rlly wanna watch this, but the lack of subtitles is Roy making me struggle 😭
Ik im sorry I’ve been enabling them but RUclips doesn’t show them for some reason:(( my other video on my main channel has better audio if u want to check it out. I’ll try adding manual subtitles for this one after finals!!
ok whats with the random dig at divergent. tris absolutely had flaws like the hell are you talking about 😭
I loved the movies and regret reading the books.
it makes me think of lolcows online or people with a large audience sharing their struggles, people watch with intention to see them get worse and egg them on. soon, that won't be enough. they want to see them die for entertainment😮💨
1000th sub enjoy
It was so nice to wake up to this! Thank you so much:))
whoops sorry ignore the repeat comments, i thought it didn't post and was testing it again
Lmaoo they definitely got posted😭😭
No closed captions?
Where are some of these clips from that aren’t in the original movies?
They are deleted scenes from the movie. You can find them on RUclips (I searched up Hunger Games Deleted Scenes).
Im back!
Hiiii:)) welcome back🫶🫶
commenting just for engagement !!!
Am i tripping or is this a re-uploaded video?
Lmaoo you’re not!! I had to reupload it here bc of RUclips’s policies..
it was so ironic watching the american media turn the hunger games into a love story
I think that started with the editors too (they pushed Collins to include the whole love triangle with Gale which she did not want initially). Even though I love Katniss and Peeta to bits, this is not a love story😭
There's no captions so i can't watch. :(
I’m so sorry about that. I’ve been trying to put them but for some reason RUclips does not save them so they do not show up. I’ll try putting my own if I can after I’m done with finals
I want to watch this so bad but the super crispy voice is giving my body really bad visceral reactions (I can't stand asmr), am I the only one?
Sorry it was my first video of that genre so I didn’t have a mic yet and didn’t really know how to deal with the audio. I made another video and the audio is better and the subject matter is very similar
@@rama2.0 oooo I'll check that one out, then! Thank you
I just wonder was the text written by chatGPT? It just sounded so professional for a small channel. Or maybe you are a grad of journalism?🙋🏼♀️
Hi! I wrote the text on my own. ChatGPT was used for the intro paragraph as I did not know how to open things up but other than that it is entirely my own lmaoo. I am a faculty of arts student so I am quite used to writing essays://
hi
love video essays about thg, but you didn't really say anything that hasn't already been said, there's nothing new in your analysis
love video essays about thg, but your analysis doesn't really have anything that hasn't been said before
It isn’t though.
I think ur projecting they just like it cause great media to talk about xD
Interesting how you mentioned wars in Palestine and Kongo, but didn’t mention Ukraine. Too mainstream to support I guess
Difference is Ukraine getting helped by west against russia. The Palestinians and Congo are barely getting helped.
I thought I had watched this before, I can't believe they'd take down such a great video 🥲
I know so many ppl are going to be confused seeing that in their recommended again:// unfortunately that’s how RUclips is😭😭
