    The hatchling Sylux obtains was a regular Metroid from what I can see, but these single nucleous ones appear to be Mochtroids, which appeared in Super Metroid. They're apparently failed attempts at cloning Metroids by the Space Pirates.

    That logo is what I'm obsessing over. There's a wormhole-like structure, a strange purple color that was spotted in the crystals on Phaaze, and a dual/mirror thing with the shapes that definitely points to time travel/parallel universe shenanigans, just enough to completely mess up what we knew about the timeline. Everything we think we know's on the table right now.

    I think what could be the case is that most of the game is taking place on one planet, but you can travel to objects in orbit of the planet. The starting location is most likely one of it's moons.
    Another possibility is that the starting location and the planet we see later are one and the same, just at different points in time.

    Rule of 2 Rob had a great theory that the planet shown at the end of the trailer LOOKS a lot like Aether from Prime 2 but restored. Recall that the giant tree at the center of the map was essentially dead. I want that to be true, but I'm not convinced. I think this is a new planet, but it would be awesome to go back to Aether and Talon IV.
    I thought the logo looked like a galaxy because of the bright light at the center, but the overall shape definitely does look like a black hole now that you mention it. It would make sense, given the GF's history.

    • @DrkRyu
      @DrkRyu 3 месяца назад

      tbf it would be easy to go back to Aether and just explore a different part of the planet. that way you still get the feeling of nostalgia but also don't have to make up an excuse why a lot of the planet is blocked off.

    The thing about the cosmic calendar is that it's never been referenced directly in any game besides the manuals for Metroid 1, Metroid 2 and Zero Mission, and the intro for Federation Force and Samus Returns. No game has ever been explicitly stated to take place in a given year, save for Metroid 1/Zero Mission (which happen in 20X5), and Federation Force (20X6). The thing about Super Metroid happening in 20X7 is from a Japanese TV commercial from the early 90s, which can never really be taken seriously to begin with. That's as official a a confirmation we'll probably ever get, so it should be taken with a gigantic grain of salt.

    The Cosmic Calendar date given at the start does have me curious since I never really remember it ever being mentioned outside of the original/zero mission being 20X5. At first it makes it seem like Prime 4 is set 4 years later but from looking into it Federation Force was set in 20X6 (I haven't played it so not sure where or how exactly it's stated) while various official sources have also stated Prime 1 is 3 years after Zero Mission and Corruption is 3 years before Federation Force so seemingly 20X_ is being used for multiple decades. Needless to say it's a bit messy and hard to say what they're considering canon at this point but at the very least I'd say the main take away is that Prime 4 is set 3 years after Federation Force for sure. This does bring into question if Prime 4 takes place before or after Super as it could be 8 years before as well. It could go either way I feel, but if what we see with Sylux are actually Mochtroids I'd lean towards it being before since the Space Pirates had successfully cloned Metroids by Super so I'm not sure why they'd still be using the failed clones. No matter what it seems like there are potentially going to be story ties to Super which really interesting.

  • @DarkLink1996.
    @DarkLink1996. 3 месяца назад +3

    Federation Force opened the exact same way, being set in Cosmic Year 20X6.
    The only thing I'm aware of that ties Super to 20X7 is an old commercial, something that could be easier tossed aside.

    Okay to me the uncompressed video you linked looks a lot better! However I’m not sure if this is a placebo effect. People say RUclips does a data compression on audio and that simply isn’t true at all. In fact it’s the same audio file whether you’re watching in HD or not and retains the actual format of whatever you uploaded to my knowledge.
    That said, it would make sense that video actually does have lossy data compression since video file sizes are an order of magnitude larger than audio files.

    I'm not up to date with all the "cosmic year" dates of Metroid games, but the "20X9" made me think that they were referencing the year that Retro started development on it: 2019.

    Scan Visor is likely a dedicated button now. Maybe they're doing something similar to TotK where you can use an ability like scan, x-ray, etc at the push of a button, and holding down that button allows you to select which visor type you want to use. Obviously in this demonstration it's basically the opening and Samus only has the one so you don't actually see her doing anything to activate it.
    I think Sylux is someone Samus once knew. I have my theories, but it's also possible it could just be someone we players haven't met before. Personally, I think it's Armstrong Houston shoutout to anyone who remembers that character that no one ever talks about because they haven't showed up in anything game related before. lol XD

    The problem with the calendar's use in Metroid is that it's highly inconsistent. Nobody is ever clear as to what number means what, and sometimes it's anything from a few months to 11 years. Makes no sense, but just goes to show you can't really use the number for anything with regards to trying to figure anything out.

    • @LiamRproductions
      @LiamRproductions  3 месяца назад

      I agree with you to a degree. However, I do think that it must be important in this particular game if it is literally the first thing we see in this trailer. It must be relevant information to the story and we will likely see other time periods that are distinguished using the calendar.

      @AlexTamayo. 3 месяца назад

      @@LiamRproductions I fired up Prime Remastered and saw all of the regions just to make sure I wasn't speaking nonsense and compared it to the uncompressed video of Prime 4.
      Now I can say for certain what I stated before, Prime 4 is far more stylised. It can be the same engine, but the art style for the textures and shader are certainly not the same. 9:33 10:28 12:03 Most textures in the Prime 4 video lack a lot of the high frequency detail that the textures in Prime Remastered have. 9:43 There are a lot of metallic materials in the Prime 4 videos that look flat and dull, or look like plastic 11:08 , which is odd because I think that engine supports PBR and therefore must have a metallic channel for shaders and I know that Remastered did. A lot of surfaces seem to not have normal maps, when they would have them if realism was the goal. In some areas of the video the lighting looks very cartoony, like there's a general non-diegetic fill in the area, so that the audience can see everything, as opposed to Remastered's more diegetic high-contrast lighting.
      There are a few more things I saw, but those are the major ones and I don't have all day to write a full detail list :P

      @LiamRproductions that was only a commercial in Japan. The devs usually don't put together commercials. That's a separate company that handles that. And the fact that the devs didn't see fit to put the year in the game or manual... I'll take the games over a dumb trailer any day.
      This game definitely takes place before metroid 2. It wouldn't make sense otherwise. Sylux stole a baby metroid at the end of federation force. If this game took place after super, that would mean the federation sent samus to sr3-88 to wipe out all metroides, to commit genocide, but didn't care to send samus after sylux to get that metroid back for years? That makes zero sense. This game definitely takes place between Federation Force and metroid 2.
