    VERY IMPRESSED
    I would like to add that part of the problem with the poor image quality of the trailer video, is that the video is probably affected by the large amount of atmospheric effects such as smoke, fog, dust or fire. When any of those elements appear in a video with the low bitrate that RUclips videos offer, the image quality suffers very visibly. This is why MP1R videos look much better than MP4B trailer videos.
    I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THE GAME LIVE. I'll just say that.

    You and Brandon did a phenomenal job explaining the differences between Prime Remastered and Prime 4 Beyond! This is honestly the most in depth I’ve seen when it comes to the graphical comparisons
    As someone who has never grown up with the Prime series and only got into the Remaster recently I could immediately notice some key differences myself. Prime 4 definitely looks more realistic overall especially with the lighting with the highlights in the metal to the shadows
    Another really big one is the animation and cinematography. The animations from what I’ve played so far of Prime aren’t bad in the slightest but you can definitely tell it’s sorta video game esque compared to how AAA games are nowadays especially when it’s a cutscene and the angles from what I’ve seen so far don’t link as much nor have as much variety as Prime 4 from the trailer
    It’s honestly quite impressive how Retro made an already great looking game through Remaster look noticeably inferior to Prime 4. The only thing that I’ve seen that many people agree on is Samus’s design in Prime Remastered looking better but that’s it. Maybe my opinion will change once I finish Prime but man does this make me even more excited whenever Prime 4 comes out next year

  • @TheRavenArchon
    @TheRavenArchon 5 дней назад +4

    I personally think they're pretty close. Prime 4 certainly has some improvements, but they look built on what they did with Prime Remaster, which makes sense as it was basically a proof of concept for Prime 4. Many of Prime Remastered's limitations also stem from having to be built over Prime GCN. Like Samus's figure being stylized in Prime Remastered, but in Prime 4 it looks far more natural, with actual female body proportions, much like the model from Metroid Dread. In the end, Retro made the best looking game on the whole console with Remastered, and now they're poised to beat their own record for the system's swan song.

      Funny that the game was revealed to be a Switch game and not a multiplatform or Switch 2 release, they don't believe that the Switch has more power than many were led to believe for years. The Switch is not weak, just held back by Nintendo's dumb choices of underclocking the system. If clocking speeds were enhanced, the frame rate and even visuals in some aspects does improve ten fold. They just lowered everything to conserve battery life. Would be awesome if Nintendo just let us choose power or battery to play games.

    It took me a bit to get used to Samus' new design in this game. Since, it's basically her Prime 3 design, but tweaked slightly.
    Now, I really like the new look, I like big shoulders Samus as much as the next fan, but Prime 1's shoulders were ridiculous.
    The same thing with the Scan visor as well. I'm happy it takes more from Prime 2 and 3 as opposed to Prime 1.
    Personally, I hated looking for red squares to scan.

      At this point closer to Prime 4’s release. Like they could shadow drop Prime 2 anytime really, but I think more likely they will wait somewhere between a couple weeks to a couple months before Prime 4’s launch. Basically how they handled the Pikmin games.

  • @davie5104
    @davie5104 6 дней назад +2

    You can definitely see they had to make sacrifices to get this running on Switch, particularly with texture resolution, lack of dynamic shadows (except very up close) and some very low-poly background models (like the NPC scientists) which are probably LOD , meaning the poly count drops as the models get further from the camera, and these types of optimizations can very easily be tweaked for a higher-powered machine. I think it’s obvious this will be cross-platform anyway, but I feel like we’re already seeing where those improvements will be seen on a Switch 2, apart from just a resolution bump.

      @arc7375 4 дня назад

      I like the giant shoulders.
      They got even _more_ giant for Samus Returns on the 3DS.
      Metroid Dread’s reason for new dimensions with her armour is because the Chozo power suit was lost/destroyed with the X infection in Metroid Fusion, leaving a far more form-fitting and sleek suit.
      As Metroid Dread is a sequel to Fusion, it built upon the very sleek and slender Fusion suit.
      When it comes to the pre-fusion games, I prefer the exaggerated and bulky shoulders and suit (in MP1:Remastered the most) but the Dread power suit and Varia suit are a very close second. They were beautifully designed!

    The change of scanning to remove boxes and directly highlight objects started as soon as Prime 2, so it makes sense they would keep continuity there and develop that idea rather than return to boxes again.

    I remember this vividly about Metroid Prime on the Wii U (not sure how enhanced of an update there was for the Remastered version on Switch), but there was a really aggressive normal mapping choice. Some walls that apparently were with pretty nice geometry actually were quite literal boxes, making it so if you shot a shot to the wall, the aftereffect of the beam shot would be a decal (which is the norm for any shooter game) over the actual geometry, which made it so you saw it floating over the visualisation of the wall. It was pretty jarring, and I guess it was a choice to give good visual effect while saving on computing, but at some of those places, the shots should not have had aftereffects to avoid that jar.
    I kinda expect that either Prime 4 has much more geometry to accompany the normal/AO maps, or that the aftereffects of the impacts on walls will be better defined to remove that jar that you say about the floatiness.

    4:30 I think you, like pretty much everyone, are missing the point of why her anatomy was "weird" or "wrong" originally. It was not incompetence. It was not that Retro did not understand how a human body fit into a suit. It was a deliberate design choice, one that communicates that the suit she's wearing is not just any power armor, but something that can warp and distort her body in ways beyond the understanding of modern physics, to the point of turning her body into a ball. It subtly conveys how advanced the Chozo are.

    4:45 honestly that's no objective "improvement" at all. I personally love the super bulky heavy Suit of the original Prime. It's intimidating, sturdy, it looks like an extremely tough armour. Despite this redesign, it still doesn't make much sense for Samus' shoulders to be that wide, so what's the point. Her neck and shoulders also seem to be too exposed, borrowing too much from Dread, taking away that protection. I understand that the clipping didn't really look good in a lot of points, but I also fail to see an actual "improvement" in the design. The lighting, while better as you stated, still has those weird matte/opaque reflections, which are more fit for plastic materials, rather than metal (as opposed to the original GC Prime). I think that's a fault of the Switch, so there's not much that can be done there.

    is the level of detail in polygons, texture and some reflections in the facility seen in the trailer of MP4, noticibly the concreate,
    compared to the ship in MPR
    This is probably because there is a LOT more going on in MP4

    The fire in MP4 looks blocky and way too saturated to look believable to me. The fire in MP1 doesn't look wrong, light from fire actually looks and behaves a lot more like that in reality if you look up videos of burning buildings.
    I also gotta disagree on the explosions. Framerate aside, the way the smoke actually looks and acts is far too blocky and dissipates too quickly. I think they set a transparency effect to the smoke and had the animation ease out too quickly far too late in the animation for the smoke. Mp1 had smoke fade too quick as well, but here it was at least done in a more gradual and subtle way.
    And there is no way the explosion in the cutscene looked better. You can see blobs and chunks that take on the properties more akin to slime or something more solid in substance. Rather than the intangible and opaque properties that make up smoke.
    The way metal reacts to lighting is more believable and realistic. But overall everything is far too saturated and overly contrasted, creating this artificial look that feels like they applied an rtx filter over everything. Which takes away from the realistic look of MP1 that helps make it so immersive.
    I do rly like this video tho. It's probably the best comparison video out currently as it covers aspects and details I think many overlook or just aren't bringing enough attention to in general. Even if I disagree with like half the points made lol

    It’s so jarring in the artstyle of the Prime games, which is heavily realistic looking, to then have generic anime Samus prance around. It’s like taking Princess Peach model from the 3D Mario games, and inserting her into any of the Alien/Prometheus films.
    What we saw in Prime 1 Remastered was a fantastic take on Samus. Let’s _please_ keep with that.
    Edit: The video itself was amazing. Really thorough and interesting analysis. Made me appreciate how much more advanced the game looks, despite my personal grievances with the suit design.

      I mean, Samus IS an anime character since day 1, she even had a manga about her, I dont see how thats "generic", especially when shes a character from the 80's when what most people think of "generic anime" wasnt a thing.

      Thanks for the praise! As for Samus’s look I really appreciated the stance she had as she exited her ship. She was leaning on one hip, and it seemed to evoke some badass energy imo.

      @@SUPERVEGETTO92 Samus is based on the character of Ellen Ripley, and modelled after Kim Basinger. She was originally 6’2” and muscled. And depicted realistically.
      And after Zero Mission (as amazing as that game was) she was revised to be around 5’3” and stuffed into that skin-tight cat-suit to make obvious her large breasts and ass. As well as change into a typical animé character.
      My point to clarify my initial post, is that Samus without her suit in Prime 4 should match the same art direction as the rest of the game.

      I like the Zero Mission look to be honest. I’m fine with either.

      @@Ray-dl5mpFair enough. If you enjoy the look, that’s totally fine and valid.
      Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. I personally can’t stand it, but if you like it, more power to you.
