I wouldn't be surprised if part of the Elora redesign also stemmed from the fact that she didn't have to _move_ all that much in the Reignited trilogy, outside of fully scripted scenes, whereas Spyro was playable and Ripto had a whole suite of boss fight animations on top of his cinematic rigs. She might just not have had the necessary parts to be ported over as directly as the other two, meaning a new model had to be made, meaning there was more room for a bit of creative liberty being taken along the way.
After studying the Reignited models that were ripped by fans from the PC port of the game, Elora's rig is fine. I think the tweaked design was for cosmetic reasons. I prefer the Reignited one (smaller eyes & overall closer design to the original for the PS1).

As exciting as an official Crash and Spyro crossover has always been to me, it is disappointing that there was never even a desire to do a Spyro 4 and instead that Crash 5 would be their Spyro 4. Ever since Reignited released, Spyro has only ever appeared as a cameo or side character in Crash projects. DLC racer for Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled, cameos and nods in Crash 4, DLC character for Crash Team Rumble, and now apparently he would've been at best playable in Crash 5 and at worst a sort of powerup for Crash throughout the game. I get the intention you brought up of combining their experiences on Reignited and Crash 4, but if it was meant to be a true combo, why was it called "Crash 5" and not something like "Crash and Spyro?" But I'm rambling. At the end of the day, TFB is an amazing studio with killer artistic vision, and I'm so happy for them going independent from Activision. I'm hoping they find a ton of success with whatever future game they release.
Crash Bandicoot 5 was just an early working title. This was in pre-production. It could have ended up being called something completely different had it been brought to fruition.
@@LiamRproductions that’s true. Your original video also seemingly had two different ideas for the game with one being about going into the minds of Crash villains and one being the crossover. So Crash 5 could’ve just been the broad pitch for whatever next game idea they went with? Still holding out hope for a new Spyro some day.
@@LiamRproductions Ah I see now. But was the mind travelling premise and Spyro crossover intended to be one same game, or were they gonna be separate pitches? Like something titled 'Crash and Spyro' and going with the crossover format from the get go I could see working out, but I think having a whole first half with JUST Crash stuff and THEN a Spyro transition would be a bit alienating.
I just hope Microsoft doesn't just stuff Crash and Spyro into the same storage closet that Banjo Kazooie also reside in so they can forget about them, I want Crash and Spyro to flourish again ._.
Same! I never experienced Crash and Spyro growing up. I hadn’t learned about them until the late 2000s into 2010s. When they were declining. I can still play the remastered trilogies of each, but I’d like to excpience what others loved so much about these two 90s icons through fresh new content. I mean, the indie scene with A Hat in Time, Billie Bust Up, and Nikorodico seem to show there’s a demand for these types of platformers.
I really love all of the work the team at TFB and the artists such as Nicholas Kole, & Nicola Saviori. that worked on Crash 4, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, & Crash Team Rumble. I am sad we did not get the idea of a Crash x Spyro crossover, but I do hope we do get a Crash 5, & a Spyro 4 very soon. (Let’s also hope that these IP’s don’t get shelved too)
I hope Liam's mental health does get better. Because one thing is being exposed to the horrors of corporate culture and how it breaks dreams and people, the other one is being called crazy or a liar because a company like Activision did something that defies belief so hard that people could not fathom it being true, did happen.
I think seeing someone exposing how Activision is run by ghouls, and proceeding to question that person's credibility and sanity? More of an indictment of them than anything if you ask me.
23:22 I initially thought the reason for her redesign was because of her crotch area since it was weirdly revealing. Granted, it is a humanoid fawn and the area is heavily covered in fur but I thought it was weird design choice. Looking at them now side by side, I see some adjustments all over her model from big to small and it looks overall better.
At to this point i don't care about the Crash & Spyro crossover anymore (i liked the first idea anyways). I just want to see Crash Bandicoot back in action once again soon and not wait another ten years for that.
Being a fan of any video game franchise is such a minefield. Some do well, some appear occasionally, some just vanish and some are full on roller coaster rides that make you both love and hate living. And some are Silent Hill. ... I think I've developed trust issues over the years.
I get businesses are there to make money, but does greed always have to kill amazing concepts & cause staff members to have sleepless nights because of their shitty working conditions? Hopefully Crash & Spyro will continue to thrive & more importantly, those poor developers can bounce back from what they've been through.
I'd really like the game industry to be like movies and TV shows where lost content is included as bonus extras just so we have it for history and the fans can even decide if they would like to see It be released at a later date.
I figured the gameplay flow would be more identical to the Mega Man GB games and Mega Man 7 and 8 where the flow goes as follows: 1. Intro stage (Uka-Uka returns) 2. First half of stages forming the initial plot (Academy of Evil) 3. Intermission stage (Aku-Aku's death, Uka-Uka corrupting Dragons) 4. Second half of stages advancing the plot (Dragon Realms) 5. Endgame (Uka-Uka stages) 6. The End? If I knew how, I could make a fangame out of this plot, even if it's more Mega Man-esque than Crash.

we hope that the story of the next crash bandicoot will end well like the first opus, the best is to make a prequel between the 1st and the 2nd. and crash speaks throughout the game.
This is truly sad. I mean, I’d never played the games, well, I’ve played the Reiginted Trilogy. And I’m still curious to try out the Insane Trilogy. I’d heard so much of how huge Crash and Spyro were. It seems Spyro 4 may still happen. But I’d really just like to see a crossover in the future. Or another narrative Spyro game. If Hat in Time, Billie Bust Up, and other indie games draw the attention for more platformers like this there must still be a demand for it. I’d pick a single player game over live service any day. I guess as someone that didn’t experience Crash and Spyro, I wish there was new content of these 90s icons to enjoy.
Thank you for the original video and the follow-up. I love Crash and Spyro. A Psychonauts-inspired Crash is incredible and genius. (personally I'd prefer that be a separate idea from a Crash x Spyro game, but that's just me.) I'm glad Toys for Bob managed to go indie, although it does make me sad they're almost definitely not going to be able to nurture the Crash and Spyro series, because they're a perfect fit. Crash 4 was so great, and I'd have loved to see them do more. Honestly the biggest issue getting in the way of me playing Crash Team Rumble at this point is...I don't want to pay for PlayStation Plus. Paid online is just such a drag.
Would hope to have Crash Team Racing Nitro fuelled 2 as a new possibility. But just have to see what Crash 5 however it ends up being made honestly depends if the old concept is used as inspiration or its rehashed we will not know till the future.
well I'm glad those questions are answer, but I have one question, if Crash 5 is cancelled and Toys for Bob is going indie, what does that mean for the Crash bandicoot franchise? is Activision going to have it be dormant again or hand it off to some other gaming studio?
I understand that Activision's decision to cancel those projects was disappointing for many fans. Although I personally value Crash and Spyro more than Call of Duty, I appreciate the freedom that Toys for Bob now has to pursue their projects as an independent studio. With Microsoft still owning the IP for Spyro and Crash, there are exciting possibilities ahead, whether it's revisiting these beloved franchises or creating something completely new. I'm looking forward to seeing what Toys for Bob has in store for their next project.
I cannot wait for Microsoft to screw up their relation with their internal studios only for them to abandon the company to work independently from them, force other developers to work on stuff they don't like and know that's gonna crash and burn or else, then their top talent quits and decide to close studios that don't have any envolvement on their actual failures just to save money for their next adquisition. And just to be sure, this doesn't mean I go for Playstation, Nintendo or PC. It's just that Microsoft has done dirty their studios and various relationships with various developers since the middle of the 360's era.
@@thatguynobodywants3716 I remember what they did with Tango Gameworks and other studios, and I deeply support them. However, I don't care about that stuff anymore.
I'm not sure how a spyro/ crash crossover game would have worked out, but I still may have bought it. Wampa League really isn't my thing. I can understand why they thought it would have worked out better, given the existence of Crash Bash & that having been generally well liked. I haven't yet bought Crash 4, but it's on my list, though I enjoy Spyro a lot more than Crash & was really looking forward to just a normal, straightforward, original Spyro sequel.
As for what would toys for bon well do next senes there working with Microsoft directly and the flood of new rare game reveals like killer instincts perfect dark and battle toads maybe a new banjo or conker
Dude we just had a new crash game last year 😭and to add on top of that he just said whatever they are working on fans will be excited . Crash for the most part is most certainly not gonna die again .this was cancelled in 2020 we got rumble 3 years later
I feel bad for the artists, when projects like these go down they cannot put their work in a portfolio and therefore can't explain a gap in their resumee and that says a lot about NDAs and the industry.
whoever thought it was a good idea to make a crash bandicoot moba was seriously out of touch with what the fans actually wanted. I really wish the execs would just sit down and read some of the roasts they're rightfully receiving.
@@crashban4t.f.s.b783 well I wasn't thinking of different designs for Baby Crash and Baby Coco I'd recommend King Chicken or Hasty The Moose instead. Should Gnasty Gnorc and The Sorceress be playable aswell as Cortex and Ripto ?
I keep seeing Spyro fans say they would’ve been disappointed that he was “reduced to a side character in Crash 5” but as someone who has always adored both characters this project sounded like my absolute dream game. It really crushes me to know it’s not happening I almost would’ve rather never known it was in the works lol
It's also not a secret to either fandom for decades, but Crash has always been the better selling one. I'm more of a Spyro fan, but if TFB thought that the crossover would've been better marketed as a crash game, i'd trust they did that research too.
You could say that Spyro made more money than Crash if we decide to include Skylanders as part of the franchise but, even Activision considers him a side character in that Toys to life spin off.
Shouldn’t have been crash 5, I don’t want crash to share his next mainline platformer with a character from a separate franchise, would’ve been cool , but not as crash 5.
Great video but I'd actually like to know what the first month sales for Crash 4 were? Activision killed Crash 5 one month after 4's launch so either the game was WAY over budget or the sales were that bad. The fact that Activision cut the price down to $40 for the Switch and PC releases is telling of this. In comparison, the Nsane Trilogy did something like 2.5m on just the PS4 in its first three months. Even then, Sega handled some of the publishing duties for it.
The data is out there. I go into it in my video. There is a citation and a bibliography in the description of that video where you can find more on sales data.
@@LiamRproductions Thanks for the response. I ask specifically cause your video mentions the motivation was in part due to early Crash 4 sales. The only actual number ever mentioned is the 5m over time but that isn't what played a part in Activision's decision. It's also why I question this game's budget as even if sales are good, going over budget is one of those things that can trigger layoffs (too many people working on the project) among other things.
@@brokenm8950 Crash 4 did not go over budget or schedule. It was released within a concise timeframe. People weren’t let go until the following year and it had nothing to do with the sales of that game. Those people weren’t necessary for them to work on Call of Duty.
@@LiamRproductions I'm still sad we ain't got a Spyro 4 yet lol. There's just so many possibilities with a Spyro game since there're many different dimensions / worlds.
@@LiamRproductions do you like my idea of a Spyro crash and Skylanders connected universe. Just like how remedy entertainment did with Alan wake and Control
@@LiamRproductions I think the feeling of 'tacking on' Spyro comes from: 1. It's 'Crash Bandicoot 5', not a 'Crash and Spyro' game. 2. From the sound of the premise I heard, it sounds like the first half of the game is purely Crash focused with the whole mind travelling thing, and only the latter half is a Spyro crossover, meaning a whole early game with NOTHING Spyro related at all. Correct me if I got the info wrong however. I think the idea of a Crash/Spyro platformer has potential, but likely as a 'Crash and Spyro' marketed spin off game where you immediately interchange between the two (say a Crash level and then a Spyro level with either playable and so forth), rather than a mainline Crash Bandicoot game where you don't even have anything Spyro related until the last half. I feel like both fanbases might feel a bit gipped with the latter setup. Neat idea but sounds like an awkward structure.
To be fair, developers should be free to make what they have interest to make. I get that and supoort that. It is still disappointing, nonetheless, that no plans for Spyro 4 as an independent game existed since reignited.
They’re obviously doing something. They went independent just to work with Microsoft and work on their IP. Highly doubt after trying to pitch Crash 5 that they left and came back just to work on Gears of War or some other Microsoft-owned IP. Maybe it won’t be a crossover or even a “standard” Crash 5. Maybe it’ll be a spin-off. But I think they’re doing something with the Crash or Spyro IP. Just a matter of “what”.

The TFB design discussion definitely takes interest. It definitely feels like the concept art for both their Crash and Spyro games was trying to be more authentic to the originals, with far more nuances that felt like evolutions of those takes, but the outsourcing led to those elements being gone or aspects translated too literally. It's curious that Elora was the one they took exception to, maybe they had just enough free time with her, or had to refine the model anyway because it had to be flexible enough to work as a playable, though I definitely see how it adds back subtleties from the concept art that were lacking with the Reignited version, besides the extra clothing for some reason.

But I'm rambling.
Completely agree.
@@e-122psi3All one game.
I still want an open world Spyro 4 and an open world Crash Spyro crossover instead tbh.
(Let’s also hope that these IP’s don’t get shelved too)
Great video, thank you very much for answering my question!
Canadian guy eh puts a BAD NAME ON US CANADIANS!
I hope Liam's mental health does get better. Because one thing is being exposed to the horrors of corporate culture and how it breaks dreams and people, the other one is being called crazy or a liar because a company like Activision did something that defies belief so hard that people could not fathom it being true, did happen.
You don't need to be concerned about my mental health. I'm doing quite well.
I think seeing someone exposing how Activision is run by ghouls, and proceeding to question that person's credibility and sanity? More of an indictment of them than anything if you ask me.
Finally, CGE is getting called out, bless!
I’m happy to get some more confirmation on some things!
Same I’m far more interested in the Psychonauts style Madame Amberly’s Academy of Evil type game
I figured the gameplay flow would be more identical to the Mega Man GB games and Mega Man 7 and 8 where the flow goes as follows:
1. Intro stage (Uka-Uka returns)
2. First half of stages forming the initial plot (Academy of Evil)
3. Intermission stage (Aku-Aku's death, Uka-Uka corrupting Dragons)
4. Second half of stages advancing the plot (Dragon Realms)
5. Endgame (Uka-Uka stages)
6. The End?
If I knew how, I could make a fangame out of this plot, even if it's more Mega Man-esque than Crash.
Lame ass comparison
It really interesting that did you know gaming became a legitimat group of gaming journalists

Paid online is just such a drag.
thanks for this , very insightful.... at least we have spyro and crash together in rumble for now!
Would hope to have Crash Team Racing Nitro fuelled 2 as a new possibility. But just have to see what Crash 5 however it ends up being made honestly depends if the old concept is used as inspiration or its rehashed we will not know till the future.
While it is sad Crash and Spyro crossover got canned, i have hope we get to something similar in the future. It's really only a matter of time
This Activision duo of videos made me sad and angry at the same time
Valid.
well I'm glad those questions are answer, but I have one question, if Crash 5 is cancelled and Toys for Bob is going indie, what does that mean for the Crash bandicoot franchise? is Activision going to have it be dormant again or hand it off to some other gaming studio?
I feel like if it gets canceled the info should be public 🤔
right not have CanadianGuyEh mislead and give constant false hope and false information
Scalebound?
Nice video!
As least the 5th Shrek film is coming in 2026 I still care for Crash and Spyro 😭🥺😢
It's a shame to think that Crash and Spyro are both dead again, but hopefully the Toys for Bob developers are able to do things on their own terms now
Dude we just had a new crash game last year 😭and to add on top of that he just said whatever they are working on fans will be excited .

What could have been a Mainline Crossover has been thrown away for cheap Shooting Games.
34:19 anyone pick up on the hints?
Maybe if the game was titled differently to include Spyro's name in it they wouldn't be as upset.
Shouldn’t have been crash 5, I don’t want crash to share his next mainline platformer with a character from a separate franchise, would’ve been cool , but not as crash 5.
@@OhKayEl you mean like Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, a game that was decidedly hated for having that nane
I still can't believe they wasted a Crash Bandicoot / Spyro spot on Crash Team Rumble.. Such a disappointment.
It was either that or nothing.
@@LiamRproductions I'm still sad we ain't got a Spyro 4 yet lol. There's just so many possibilities with a Spyro game since there're many different dimensions / worlds.

Oh man I would love if What Happened became a Liam (this Liam)-McMuscles co-production!
I am dissapointed to hear Toys for Bob wanted to do Spyro 4 as Crash 5. Do Crash 5 fine, but tacking Spyro in there to pacify Spyro fans?
They weren't tacking Spyro on there. It was a crossover between the two. They were equally represented.
@@LiamRproductions I think the feeling of 'tacking on' Spyro comes from:

Hi
If Activision or Microsoft don't want to do anything with this franchise, just put it up for sale then.
They're going to do it
They’re obviously doing something.
Im actually pissed off about Crash 5 and the Crash and Spyro crossover

Why the devs and contract workers are salty. I would be to! But when did a pitch equal canceled game?
@@kingzilla36 Months of work that included concept art + demos is NOT a pitch. A pitch would be just a bunch of documents outlining what the developers wanted to start working on. Crash 5 was not a pitch. It was a cancelled game, period.
@@Coolsy101 This is what all this is is a pitch. There is no paper to 3d demo work done. Sometimes, pitching an idea takes months while developing a game takes years, if not longer. There is no full story starting to end here. It looks like solid or a bunch of ideas at best.
