  • So the NEW Bank 2 Intake Camshaft and VVT Phaser did NOT fix the Limping 2017 Jeep Rubicon... WHAT NEXT?
I called my good friend Keith DeFazio of New Level Auto, and he suggested that I take a look at the Diagnostic Network posts at diag.net/
Sure enough, there was a post about a Jeep with the exact SAME codes and symptoms!!
But the resolution was still UNCLEAR...
Let's do a few more experiments and finally nail down the ROOT CAUSE of this weird engine problem.
The findings blew my mind... have YOU seen this failure before??

To be fair, most of us are not looking for missing or loose fasteners inside a running engine that are integral for it to run properly. Plus, you probably gave a few hundred people some guidance on what to look for when they run into this. That cam and phaser was a pretty educated guess. You are by far the best of most of us. Thanks for the great content and education. We are all better because of it.

would it be worth a new valve cover gasket and labor just to check the other head gallery plugs?

  • @leaddog54

I'd be worried where the original bolt/plug went. Hopefully just in the sump.

Nice catch Ivan but I still find it to be bit odd that as it still had good oil pressure, man I would be wanting to fine in that missing bolt before something else catastrophic happens assuming that it didn't find its way into the bottom of oil pan, And I would definitely check the other head too while I was at it and locked tight them in as well as the preventative measure.

  • @andrewedwards6548

Perfect timing. Just finished watching the first 2 parts. Every mechanic has a job that haunts them, then you get someone else who fixes it in 5 mins 😂

Buying a new vehicle is like buying a boat, a money pit.

  • @irfanbedretdin3591

Wow Nice Job!! How about oil plugs in bank 1? Should them have been checked for good measures as well? You will probably find the missing bolt in the oil sump. 😊

My elderly neighbor's Jeep had the same issue. He donated to a charity to get rid of it. It had 32,000 miles on the odometer, was well maintained, so there was no excuse for the engine problems other than bad engineering and bad quality control. I personally think that some companies need to get out of the auto manufacturing business.

  • @janpur1417

I felt bad after hearing the owner didn't pay for the intake cam/phaser. I thought the owner would give him a generous tip for fixing his Jeep! man that jeep needed a wire harness, then an engine... imagine out of pocket pay if he went to any other shop on top of the wait time.

  • @sux2bu883

Good job, Ivan what a head scratcher. Where is the bolt that is supposed to be there, and did you check the other side to make sure they were tight ?

If this Jeep was mine I would pay all your labor & all parts! And I would be extremely

  • @andyg5004

Appreciate your honesty Ivan. It takes time to fix jeeps and you should be paid for all your time

  • @stevec5657

That is a crazy issue and fix.

Wow. Those oil galley plugs actually just fall out all the way like that. That old bolt must be at the bottom of the oil pan by now just living the good life swimming in the good stuff. Who knows, it might have a friend some day. ;P

  • @robertmazzawy8322

Maybe going above and beyond, but I would think you should check bank 1 for loose plug bolts given problem on Bank 2.

  • @hikerJohn

It's like 100 people knew about this before today and now because of this video THOUSANDS of people know about it . . . I watch 99% of your videos but was more interested in this episode because I'm a Jeep owner.

  • @carguy0000

Hey Ivan great video , would it be a good idea to check the oil gallery plugs on the other bank for tightness ?

  • @kellyd887

I guess keeping a good reputation means having to eat the cost once in a while. The dealerships certainly would have charged the customer for their mistake. Good job Ivan & good on you integrity wise. The world needs more of that.

  • @joevaagen6170

Man ivan, when it comes to RUclips mechanics I can count on 1 hand which ones I would trust if I'm working on my own vehicles. You and Eric O are the ones I watch RELIGIOUSLY. Way to go this was a rough one!

  • @norcal715

Way to stick to it and find a 100% resolution for the customer. Thank you Ivan.
