I think it starts in warm-ups. From the first throw to the last, you're throwing to a strike zone. A pitch to the shoulder/head is a ball, practice throwing strikes even in practice
KICKBOXING! I learned to kick/punch harder by going "through" the target. It also teaches you about footwork, how far you need to stand apart in order to use the rear hand, etc. etc. Its both moving kinetic energy through the body as efficient as possible. Kinda cool how well it translates for me.
i think that the best thing I've done, since i'm a hard thrower with now good acuarcy, but was kinda sucky with my command before is having your glove arm side trap face the plate and then when you land your front foot, you rotate, and it will have a better staying on point with the pitch and also ups the velocity for pitchers that have early rotation
Exactly. Had a pitching coach tell me when we were warming up that he’ll tell me to close my eyes at a certain point. Literally said close right as I’d rotate into layback and I hit him in the chest every time. Just don’t think about it and just fucking throw
Visualizing before the throw is still good though. But when it comes time to throw, just fucking throw. Same when picking up balls and tossing them in the bucket. Just toss it and don’t think about it as you’re doing it.
I'm going to try this with my kiddo today. He's coming in for relief tonight and has had some command issues recently. Thanks for this and we'll see how it goes!
Find a steep hill and pitch on parkway sidewalk at the very crest. Tell your catching partner to be a real busterd. Tell him to swing a strike circle with his glove hand. Or wear a bright tee shirt and only catch a pitch blocked by the shirt. If the pitch is outside that target he must let it go. You will get roadwork and also really tighten the screws on building command.
One cue that's helped me is to imagine there is a rope attached to my hip and the catcher's mask/glove/body and to follow that rope towards/through to the catcher.
hey ben im a big fan of yours and i was wondering if you can do a mechanical breakdown on a lefty because i like to watch your mechanical breakdowns on big leaguers and i want to set myself up side by side of a lefty because i am also lefty
does it help anyone else when their catcher has confindence in you as a pitcher, or the chemistry is high bewteen the catcher and pitcher. for me when i have chemistry with a cathcer it helps me.
I know this is an old video but kudos to whoever found a random clip of kersh talking about command tips on a christian testimonial video. That is why tread is next level 😂😂😂
Blow it through is interesting concept Instead of focused vision i think your eyes go into a more peripheral vision and somehow that helps? I will try with my 11 yr old in spring However. I teach him focus on the glove. Clear mind. Nuthin but the glove (or helmet for splitter) :). The mechanics are learned let your body do it naturally. No girlfriend. No crazy baseball dad. No more thinking about what to do. When your mind clears i think it allows all mental resources to dedicate themselves. I think of the brain as a targeting computer. Range azimuth elevation all need a lot of mental resources to compute. Muscle memory does the rest. To train hand/brain put paint tape on wall and practice hitting the spot at all distances. 10 ft throwing a dart or 30 or 60 ft. Lotta text. Mho

What are some command tips or cues that you've come up with?
Throw it hard in case it’s a strike

"Kill the catcher with a blow to the chest", that's the best thing that has worked for me

Thanks for this I know a usf collage pitcher and he told me to look at this and it helped me a lot
Glad you found this helpful!

Great advice. / my son over Antilles & worrying there hit or being taken out by coatch.,/ but loves to throw hard.
Thank you so much. I was throwing all over the place. Until I found this video and after watching this I was in the strike zone consistently
This is extremely helpful can’t wait to share with my son..
had a bad outting yesterday and couldn’t find the zone , im gonna try this

Great content Ben

Something I want to say is if you are pulling your pitches it could mean your not tucking in your glove and your arm is just out
This is a huge piece that tons of youth pitchers don't know how to do
Awesome approach!

Same
Can you please go over throwing over the top or how to have your trunk tilt more to come overtop more
Thank you I can throw really good know
