    Hey Trevor love the videos and the tips! I’m a 13 year old pitcher and only throw 65 mph and want to gain lots of velo. These drills sound great and was wondering should I use the same weights as you do or should I lower them because I am at a lower age then you? Thanks for the help!

      First of all, throwing 65 at 13 is crazy, at 13, I probably threw 35. By far the most helpful thing I've done so far is long toss. I just head over to my local baseball field with a bucket of balls and hurl them into the backstop. This is really helpful if you are a high arm slot guy with a lot of ride to your fastball, but even me being a low 3/4 slot guy who relies of my arm side run, this is still an immensely helpful drill. Keep throwing bro!

      Young man, it looks like Trevor won’t get back to you and who knows what you’ve done over the last 10 months. It isn’t safe to be doing weighted balls for you and nearly every other MS/HS player. Those should be reserved for college/pro guys because their bodies are more developed. That’s the short answer.
      The long answer is more scientific with a bunch of jargon.
      Drill #1 isn’t one most players need to do but the others are good, just not with weighted balls.
      It’s fine to “want to gain lots of velo” but you’re not understanding something very important. Trevor has trained with some of the best pitching people in the world (Texas Baseball Ranch, Driveline, and MLB coaches). He’s also a fully grown adult. He’s trained his core in the anti-rotation ways. He’s built up a strong shoulder and mobile hips and all of these other things for years before picking up weighted balls. There’s a lot of research and science on this stuff. I get he’s a popular figure with a big following but stay away from weighted balls. There are PLENTY of other ways to safely gain velocity.
      Besides, nobody cares how hard you throw at that age but you. Learn to pitch while continuing to train your body to be athletic, strong, supple, & powerful.
      People who say “lower the weight” don’t know what they’re talking about because there are 3 parts of speed training. Overspeed or overload (heavy), underspeed or underload (lighter) & normal load. So saying go lower will only be focusing on the underspeed piece. They only say that because it sounds like a safer option for somebody who is younger.

  • @williamlamanteer5905
    @williamlamanteer5905 2 года назад

    Teaching the body to move faster is critical and this describes the process well. Getting more athletic on the mound and speeding up the delivery tempo is a key finding. Do you have more of these drills ? Great segment ?
    My teenage pitchers are doing this in our home lab with good results, 4oz 5oz 6oz
    I am also still skeptical of what plyoballs really achieve ? I see these done more and more but not sure there is a real benefit of these plyo throw techniques?
    Thanks again for sharing this !

    Awesome. Just awesome.
    Drawing out the theme of variability a bit further, it occurred to me: why not also mix up the ball *sizes* as well? Don’t think this can be done with the 3s, but 4-5-6 you can. Break those up doing a third undersized, a third normal, and a third oversized? Now you’re really not doing the same throw twice.
    Anyway, post-throw & recovery up next? Plus variation in recovery routine based on day’s main purpose?
