It’s funny cause we all complained about melania and yet Radahn makes her look like a joke. Cost me a piece of my sanity and years off my life to beat him…but when I did….the joy was Nirvana. That feeling is what fromsoftware games are about .
Malenia took me a whole 8 hour shift, and then another 2 hours the next morning. I fought Radahn with all my damage talismans for about 2 hours, changed to golden braid and dragoncrest greatshield talisman, killed him first try. But I think if I didn't spend two years playing this game and learning its design philosophy, I would have had a lot more trouble in the dlc. I went in with a much better mindset for learning how an attack works, what direction it's coming from and how I can move to make my life easier. Like the hippo grab. When I saw how intimidating it was and how hard it is to roll perfectly, I looked at the tracking and the way it moved. I tried sprinting to the side and jumping instead of rolling: more forgiving, faster, more time to punish. Made that mental note and now I never have to worry about the grab ever again
most of the complaints are about his 2nd phase move set which definitely can be learned if you take your time, besides one move that can’t be fully dodged consistently,
Some people may say It earlier, but is completely refreshing hearing someone that, despite having criticism, talks with complete passion on the DLC, and not thinking for the worst for no reason instead of the 30th video just about SotE complains. Very good video man. You even made me want to fight Radanh again, even if I have mixed feelings.
Tutorial on how to get easy views on RUclips: -Sees a "critique" of Elden Ring doing well -Copies said critique video but in a different format with re-arranged words and sentences -Profit The amount of people jumping on that bandwagon is absurd. Especially when their complaints about the boss designs and "artificial difficulty" are so outdated and half-baked
@@BUKUDI Not just smug, downright hypocritical or straight up incorrect. They'd say that a boss in Bloodborne is hyper aggressive and super quick and you might get hit sometimes but that's fine but then say the exact same thing for Elden Ring only it's not fine.
@@mingQWERTY The funniest Part is, that this is not the first Game that happened. Mauler convinced the entire community at their time that DS2 was garbage with their "objective" opinions. Mauler even made up situations when DS2 seemed to rely on spam mostly or blamed his lack of ADP on hitboxes. Or called Some mechanics Bugs. The critiques were disinformed and terrible, and is terryfing how poorly a lot of people treated DS2 because of It. This ,funnily enough, is really no diferent to what those critics are trying to do again...
@@JoseViktor4099 Dangerous game though conflating Ds2 with Elden Ring. Especially since the common rhetoric among ER haters is how Elden Ring is just a sequel to Dark Souls 2. The only time he called a mechanic a bug was with the running hollow which the comments section quickly corrected him on. Looking at the footage, he doesn't always conflate adp with hitboxes since the stuff with fume knight, the ogre, and that one knight that has the lingering hitbox with the sword all seem to have a problem with the actual model of the weapon/hand, or the infamous alonne grab where you snap back into the sword. What's funny is that Mauler called out Hbomberguy for using vague language and double standards when the latter condemned Ds1, and he actually proceeded to do something similar in his EFAP talk concerning SOTE, where he says that bosses in the series, as they went on, stopped adhering to "gravity" and "physics" as much(I think he still likes the DLC and ER overall though). Which is absolute nonsense and doesn't mean anything. It's sort of crazy how much of a cult following he has around himself and his friends, where his fans would take everything he says as gospel and/or form entire opinions about what THEY say. They do have some nuanced conversations though, and their caliber of discussion is much better than some random niche youtube that recycles arguments. Still, I couldn't help but feel that Joseph A won in the long run(despite Mauler hating Joseph's videos).
Yes boss is amazing, one of the greatest bosses imo, it has some issues I know, but overall I can’t look at these smaller issues & then say he’s bad because of them.
One of the things I think occurred in the Stone Fissure Coffin is that Miquella didn't just discard that which he loved, but what Radahn loved as well. Leonard. Hence why we see the Putrescent Knight riding and being assisted by a steed. This way, Radahn's reborn soul would be easier to guide along and manipulate. If Leonard were still around, Miquella knew Radahn would never truly care for him like he would his beloved horse and companion.
@@NeloBladeOfRanni Beast claws have more power. But the martial arts are cool. Especially if you have foot and fist both equipped in right hand so you can switch between them.
@@bobdobbz9334 I hate that Messmer's hp is so low. Y make him the face of the dlc and then give him so little hp compared to every other boss? It's so stupid. He deserved 2 full ho bars or a 3rd phase.
After the honeymoon phase, I'm kinda on the fence about this now. I love so many parts of the dlc but there's some things that still sour it quite a bit for me.
The Promised Consort is everything that made Orphan, Gael and Isshin so rewarding. He forces you to be the very best that you can possibly be in the game, and anything less won't be anywhere near as satisfying.

I absolutely *love* the final boss fight. It truly feels like you're fighting a god. Haven't even beaten it yet and tbh I'm kinda happy about it, I'm having so much fun.
For those that decided to jump on the nitpick/hate train thats been going on. Remember this same shit happened with the base game, and it led nowhere. Just sit back, enjoy what you can and move on, you wont convince anyone that its "actually not good". You were never saints, just happened to be on the losing side of a war
Yeah, you can see that the biggest ER DLC"""criticism""" video of Shadow of The Erdtree being bombarded by dislikes. Even people despising Radanh with all it soul is technically a hot take according to polls. I even saw more and more support towards him, regardless of my opinion of the fight. Now funnily enough, those people I see seems kind of "represed", because apparently saying that not knowing when to heal is bad boss design, is valid criticism we are denying with the "GIT GUT", specially Feeble King. Mainly because unlike Joseph Anderson case, people had realized that critiques regarding difficulty are mostly very subjetivity based.
Most people actually think there were issues with the doc but still enjoyed it. Its not a hate train its called criticism. The world is not split into 2 sides on every issue, people can like and criticise something at the same time
@@jamesn0va correct, and for those I have nothing to say. Their position is the healthy one. However, there IS a vocal minority who adds nothing of value, being content with calling the dlc "overrated trash" or some other stupid "critique". The comment was referring to them.

@highlord2841 opaline hardtear, boiled crab, hair braid talisman, great dragonshield talisman, two-headed turtle talisman, great jar talisman, heaviest armor you can still medium roll in, and you should be able to take a huge amount of damage before dying. Then just keep rolling and dodging and studying until you see openings you can exploit. Dont attack the boss for like 15 attempts. Just stay alive as long as you can. Then start slowly attacking him when you KNOW you're not going to get hit or have a second or two. You'll be healing less and less and therefore getting more and more time to attack. You'll clean him up in no time.
20:43 Btw for anyone dealing with this flurry thrust attack, there is a way to 100% dodge this move consistently, it's just unintuitive lol. All you have to do is roll into him, that's it. You'd think him thrusting repeatedly would have a hitbox close to his body, but it seems the hitbox is only active right at the tip of each thrust, or maybe because he's in the air, being right next to him just causes the attack to barely graze over your head. As long as you're right next to him, you never get hit by it.
Why would rolling into an attack be unintuitive? Rolling backward didn't work because the boss propelled himself toward me, so obviously I dodge in a different direction. That's something that's been around since Demon's Souls(directional rolling that is). Especially since the attack has high forward momentum, obviously implying that rolling backward will just lead to a catch. I can maybe see why sprint jumping Radahn's starcaller cry(which is by far the most consistent way to dodge his slams) or the latter for Malenia waterfowl can be seen as "unintuitive" since the game never gives a tutorial popup for sprint jumping and it wasn't a thing in past games(even though the game does establish here and there that sprint jumping gives you tons of forward momentum, more so than rolling via platforming bits and stuff like that) but a normal dodgeable move being called "unintuitive" is just grasping at straws. At this point, the only way a boss can make all its moves intuitive is by getting rid of directional dodge rolling and yelling aloud when you need to dodge its attacks(oh wait a minute, Ds3 already does that).
right? And i think move being unintuitive to dodge isn't even an argument because there's nothing more unintuitive and ridiculous than rolling through a nuke or a sword and coming out unscathed to beginwith. Players know the mechanics and should experiment until they find a solution. There are countless ways to solve the same problem in this game, making it endlessly replayable but It seems lazy, uninspired modern gamers refuse to put any amount effort into it for some reasonas if they want the game to play itself these days
You should always roll THROUGH the attack. Otherwise you're rolling directly towards the hitbox, not away from it. Dodging towards IS dodging away. Dodging backwards will make you roll INTO attacks.
About the review bombing Its overblown how many people are reviewing it poorly due to difficulty, when about 3/4 of the negative reviews come from Chinese players who had an issue with the anti cheat.
Awesome video. Love your stuff. Two things: 1 - I do think you need to give a nod to the Witcher 3's DLC when you say that the two best DLC's are this and The Old Hunters. Witcher 3 has incredible DLC that shouldn't be glossed over. 2- You're. Right. On EVERY. SINGLE. POINT. With Promised Consort Chadahn. He is FS's best boss ever made. He just is. He's the culimnation of years and years of FS doing what they do best and he is EXACTLY the kind of fight I wanted. There's like NO BS. It's only a straight fight. Yeah, there's a lot going on and you have to really discern what's coming at you, but that's HOW IT IS WITH EVERY OTHER BOSS - he's just a harder version of that. I will never understand people's gripes with the boss. Especially the ones you mention. Hats off to you good sir.
Yeah you are really right about that. But you have to admit that the almost completely impossible to dodge double slash is just BS. Everything else is GOAT though.
@@Boc_theSeamster The entire point of the double cross slash is to get you thinking outside the box. You can't roll through the attack but you can use ashes of wars or items to dodge/block it. It's an interesting move thats very controversial but its very fun to "dodge" once you understand how it works.
@@SuleX00-ov5ip I defend waterfowl dance and the earth quake attack from the god devouring serpent. But an attack that requires items or ashes of war isn't good design to me. They should always remain optional.
I'll tell you right now that Elden Ring rekindled my love for video games. I hadn't played video games in almost a year. I heard the Elden Ring dlc was coming out in a month and a half, so I decided to pick it up. At first I had no idea what to do and I just looked up the location of every boss. I literally went and fought everything basically region locked. I did limgrave, weeping, Calid, and Liurnia before I stopped looking up boss locations. Then I found Ranni and immediately started doing her whole questline. Went to Altus on accident through Cool Mine. I went collected, killed and found everything half the time on accident. Killed all the rememberences on my first playthrough. When I was done I had a 60 vig, 60 int, 60 str, 40 end, 40 mind. Unga Bunga Mage of murder. Then 2 days later the dlc came out. Beat Radahn without a single respec or weapon switch. Fromsoft literally made me believe games could be fun again.
My fight with consort Radahn was so epic...we both died at the end...yet I still get his remembrance of a God and a lord...I was like crying after 20 tries...and I had all 20 and 10 of revered ashes. I am level 400 and I still struggle . 😅
My only problem with the dlc is empty areas. There is an entire area behind midra’s manse that the player can’t even access even thought they could easily put some ruins or more lore on nanaya somewhere there idk. Also both coasts feel very empty, and when trying to find dlc enemies to damage test I had a hard time finding sites of grace with tanky enemies in the world. I found some but wayyy less than just leurnia and limgrave. The area after Giaus has one of the tallest structures in the game just for the player to find out it probably just held up a shadow tree arm to drain sap into a bowl… like add a bit more… I understand this dlc was already massive, something fromsoft has never done before, is amazing, is the best dlc I’ve ever played, I just wish these areas were used more effectively.
Both the finger ruins and the coast kind of get a pass from me since I was just jaw-dropped because of the eerie atmosphere and the lore implications. I actually appreciated their relative emptiness because of the things they made me notice.
The fact that you said they’re body was missing changes my entire perspective on this thank you for this because I was conflicted about the final boss as well, but this makes me realize all of this was preplanned
always good to see a fellow furnace golem enjoyer. only ones i didnt like were the armored ones bc i didnt like having to keep running off and crafting pots
very glad someone else enjoys the final boss. and, in terms of bosses, i’d probably go 1. Rellana tied w Mesmer 2. Divine Beast 3. Radahn 4. Gaius 5. Bayle
"there is no way this guy is kind". Zombie Radhan still protects leonard, still hold the stars, stalling the fate of the carian family (that includes him being Miquellaed). Dude was THAT Build Different
My favorite part of the map is it reminded me of the tendril-like paths in Bloodborne. Cathedral Ward is the central hub that connects Old Yharnam, Central Yharnam, Upper Cathedral/Orphanage, Hemwick/Cainhurst, Forbidden Forrest/Byrgenwurth, Yahar'gul/Nightmare and the Hunter's Nightmare. The Shadowrealm has Gravesight Plain, Scadu Altus and Shadow Keep that take up the center of the map, and each have 4-6 tendril paths that take you to every boss and loop back onto one another really well. It feels like one massive dungeon layered with various sized dungeons, and Shadow Keep feels like the heart of it all. I would love to see a future map with 5 legacy dungeons that weave into hub areas even more elaborately. I don't think any other studio has ever captured verticality the way it's done in SOTE. It's a step up from the base game, The Witcher 3, GTA IV/V and Cyberpunk 2077. And I could glaze Shadow Keep forever. Haligtree/Elphael and Leyndell/SSG were the best of legacy dungeons from the base game for me, but my god Shadow Keep is everything those did well plus another total vibe that feels distinct from Volcano Manor and Stormveil, with the extra bonus of dynamic function as the heart of the whole map. It honestly could have been even bigger and more elaborate, you can tell where they just had to finish the game and not add a few more sections, but even then, it's excellent. It's pretty much what I feel Volcano Manor and Raya Lucaria could have been if they'd used their vertical space better.
Im all for bosses being left alone because theyre supposed to be a big epic finale, hell I beat Consort pre-nerf but holy shit he needed tweaking. He was overtuned to all hell and I dont blame people for calling it out. But the ones who didnt even attempt to collect enough Scadutree Fragments and called it too hard need to sit down.
The most memorable thing in castle Ensis to me, except the main boss, was how I infiltrated it through a water fall. It was so cool, and another thing I discovered is that it has a section where you can't access from inside the legacy dungeon but has to be jumped down from the plateau.
This video is great Having gags throughout the whole review is what makes a passionate video Overall I agree most of your takes, definitely I love the map design it really bring one small path to a massive area The boss design minus few bosses overall is at least decent with messmer being my new favourite boss fight The new content with dungeons and weapons are also great definitely 10/10 for me even with flaws like minor performance issue it did held me back from this incredible experience
I believe both Ratatoskr and user Revanx77, who commented under his video titled “Negative Shadow of the Erdtree Review - Elden Ring”, put my issues far more succinctly than I could. You can skip to 8:24 for Ratatoskr’s section which I’ve transcripted below. Ratatoskr: “All right, let's talk about my second criticism. The big criticism: the last boss. If you didn't see a spoiler warning up until this point, now is your chance to leave. This is not a spoiler-free video. The last boss is Radahn, and a lot of people are unhappy with Radahn being the final boss. There are people that are unhappy with him mechanically as a boss. There are people that think that the fight is too much, it's too difficult, disorienting. But apart from those, there are people unhappy with the story ending with Radahn as the final boss. There are people that will go so far as to speculate that the initial story planned Godwyn to be Miquella's consort, and it was changed to Radahn for some reason. The basis of the speculation is that there are numerous item descriptions tying Godwyn to Miquella. The Golden Epitaph sword has Miquella referring to Godwyn as “Lord Brother”, and “Lord Brother" is how he refers to Radahn in the memory cutscene at the end. The sword also has Miquella wishing that Godwyn would die a true death, which could be similar to how he needed Radahn to die so he could bring his soul back in Mohg's body. There's also that Mohg calls his coming dynasty the Mohgwyn Dynasty, which has the words “Mohg” and “Gwyn” in it. Now before I get to my criticism, I want to make sure that it's understood that these two are not the criticisms that I hold. I don't think the fight is too hard or unfair, and I don't think having Radahn at the end is a retcon or that Radahn took the place that Godwyn was supposed to be in. I think it's possible that if we look at previous lore points and the new stuff introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree, the connection between Radahn and Miquella might make more sense. But there is still a problem, and I think it's the real reason why people are dissatisfied with the ending. And it's that having Radahn as the final boss is more confusing than it is satisfying. So for example, let's assume that I'm right and that after some time has passed and we look into the lore and speculation becomes more refined, we discover that the connection between Radahn and Miquella makes perfect sense. Let's assume the best-case scenario, and if we dig deep into the lore, we find that it's actually completely satisfying after the fact. Well, in that case, that still doesn't really help us during the fight. It doesn't help us in the short term. It doesn't matter that it was hinted at for a tiny amount of time in the DLC. It doesn't help the situation that Ansbach and Freyja's questline lets you know about it beforehand. None of those factors make it seem less stupid when you first hear about it. Confusion and displeasure is not what the revelation of the final boss should be inspiring in people during the boss fight. Let me give you an example. In Dark Souls 3, Soul of Cinder had presentation. And you don't have to be very well-versed in the lore, you don't have to go around reading every single item description to understand what Soul of Cinder represents. As you fight him, he switches forms, changing his play style and in many ways moving very much like a player. And as the fight goes on, you realize what he's supposed to be, you realize what he represents. He's you. He's a representation of all the people who chose to link the fire. And then when you get him into the final phase, his fighting style changes once more to resemble Gwyn's, the first Lord of Cinder. It's an impactful moment and it's something you can easily understand even if you don't understand the story, even if you're only partially paying attention to what's happening. From Software is very good at this. They've done it well with many different bosses throughout the years. But Radahn is an unfortunate exception. The reaction I am seeing from people when they see Radahn is confusion and displeasure, and almost all the relevant lore details that would ease the shock aren't accessible until after the boss fight. The remembrance tells us the reason why Miquella wanted Radahn as a consort, and the armor item description reveals to us finally what Malenia said to Radahn during their battle in Caelid, and it helps explain what Malenia was doing in Caelid warring with Radahn in the first place, which was a big mystery in the base game. But again, this is all stuff that you don't get until after you beat the boss fight. It's information that will do nothing for you when Radahn is first revealed or when you are fighting him. And given how difficult he is, that could be quite a while. I think they did a bad job with how Radahn was introduced in the DLC. You can tell by how many people are complaining about it. But not just anybody, even people like me. I'm the biggest Radahn supporter. No one has levied more Malenia slander on this Earth than I. So if even I am unhappy with Radahn's presentation, then I think it's obvious that there's a problem.” Revanx77: “I think that Radahn is a symptom, not a cause. By which I mean the reason behind why people are dissatisfied with him is absolutely all over the DLC. That reason being that the DLC has almost zero integration with the main game. There is zero mention of Messmer anywhere in the base game. When people first heard about Rellana, they thought that it was a joke. The Scadutree and the Divine Gate and the veil over the lands are neither explained nor brought up anywhere in the Lands Between. In the vast majority of the new lore, we are adding complications rather than elaborations, with just a few exceptions. The base game did not hint at any sort of connection between Miquella and Radahn outside of the fact that Malenia fought him, which was the subject of rampant speculation. On the flipside of the coin, the DLC barely, if at all, touches on anything Miquella was doing in the base game. The Haligtree is not mentioned once. Malenia is only referred to by proxy as the mother of the forager brood and is only mentioned by name in the description of Radahn's armor. The Eclipse or what it was for is never mentioned despite Godwyn's Death Knights being present and on a completely inscrutable quest. You can have Miquella's Needle in your head and it goes unnoted. You can wear Miquella's tiara to Malenia's boss fight or her own armor to Radahn's boss fight and nobody says a word. You can have the Flame of Frenzy in you and Midra doesn't change at all, and you are still referred to as a Lord of the Old Order or of the Erdtree or of Marika by everybody. There's no explanation of whether or not the body in the cocoon is even Miquella. There isn't even a cutscene for entering the DLC, you just go through a loading screen and zone in. I've heard people, including you, say that the Godwyn stuff was always wishful thinking in the vein of Velka from DS1. Well to me the much more apt comparison to DS1 is Sif. If you went and did Artorias of the Abyss first and save Sif, then Sif's cutscene actually reflected that in the base game. To me that reflects a level of care which is so often absent from Elden Ring. In a lot of ways this DLC is the most polished and finely crafted piece of content FromSoft has ever put out, but it's also missing the polish and craft that I would most care about.”
I think many people are a bit salty that they couldn't guess he was going to be the final boss, I get it, I was salty too, maybe I'm still salty, there are not enough clues for us to be able to even think about it in the base game and the godwin lore is missleading at least so I did feel underwhelmed an confused, but is that a bad thing?, I didn't like the revelation because I liked Radahn himself, but isn't that the point? is a horrible situation, why would I feel satisfied or hyped about it? it felt unexpected even for me when I put it together with Freya's quest, but I don't get why that's stupid, how much is this just my pride for not being smarter than the devs or to think my theory was better? the devs who actively hide important pieces of the lore so we are forced to speculate, that's the point, they don't want us to have the full picture, it didn't feel satisfying to see Radahn again but why should it be? its a surprise and is not a good one, another thing is that it makes sense in the lore we have barely any info about the shadow realm inhabitants since its under Marika's skibidi veil, it was meant to be hidden with all its secrets, all she wanted to leave behind, even Mesmer, also I don't think having the frenzy flame should affect Midra's fight or encounter, lets assume you got the frenzy flame ending, ok, then the erdtree is destroyed and even torrent spectral ring is burnt, the game ends there, you are allowed to remain in the world so you can keep playing but since the erdtree stays there and you can use torrent we can assume the ending is not consumated yet we just get the cutscene to know how it would end for that case, now lets assume we got another ending or none at all but we took the frenzy flame anyways later on, why would Midra fight be different? we only become the lord of frenzy flame in the ending, before that we just have the frenzy flame from the 3 fingers, we still act out of our own will, I guess it would be nice to have more madness resistance for embracing the frenzy flame but beyond that what should change?, we are not the lord of frenzy, yet, midra becomes the lord with our arrival, I'm not trying to said either Ratatoskr or Revanx are wrong, I just think these points are worth of discussion and we can't just discard them as mistakes or holes in the lore just yet, after all I won't deny its jarring to travel only with a loading screen and we got probably more questions than answers, but how much of that is just us being impatient and wanting to know more because we are intriged with this world? of course we want to know more, but if something doesn't make sense yet I think is still early to say its broken or that its poorly made because it doesn't fit with out theories, the lore in these games takes time and many minds to be interpreted, and that's exactly what they wanted and what I wanted so here we are, I don't understand very well why people feel like Radahn's fight is not well presented, and this video is a good example of why I like it, but I would like you and they get deeper into the why you all don't like it, because from Rata I just get he doesn't like it because is not like Soul of cinder but why it should be?, the point here is not the same, neither the themes, elden ring is its own thing, and from Revanx I get that the dlc was very disconnected from the base game, fair enough, but I don't see that as a bad thing, just a different approach, once again, it makes sense its almost unheard of since it was hidden by Marika, and Miquella's connection with Radahn is never mention in the game but Miquella himself is quite an enigma for everyone anyways, why would we should know his plan or motives when we barely know anything about him? oh man I better stop now, sorry for the long response
@@rily2885 These are not my words but come from a particularly bitter player who is not a fan of the DLCs lore at all, u/FemboyBallSweat: It is poorly executed. Miquella charming Mohg was a narrative misstep by From. It removes any agency he might've had. He just sat around doing nothing for 1000 years while his sister rotted and his followers blew themselves to shit defending the Haligtree. The tragedy they set up in the DLC completely falls flat because the DLC recontextualizes the events that happened in base game to make him seem either really dumb or an irredeemable psychopath before he ever abandoned anything. His plan is basically "It'll all work out." Miquella being defined by his failures would've achieved the minimum impact if it was ever addressed or elaborated on at all. But he doesn't appear until the last minute and only repeats information we already know. Nothing about what he was trying to accomplish in base game was ever addressed. It's just Radahn, Radahn, Radahn. His tragedy doesn't feel like Marika's where it seems like there was only one way out for her. Unlike her, there's no understandable reason as to why he did what he did. It's just "He was sad over what his mommy did" despite him being just as callous with none of the reasoning behind it like she had. Ansbach and Freyja are great characters but they mess up the timeline. No one can call heads or tails whether he cocooned before or after the Battle of Caelid. He was present to at least see what happened and did nothing to help anyone but Freyja. That loving sibling bond went out the window with the DLC because he has shown he values having Radahn as his consort more than his sister's life. His sister sacrificed herself, her soldiers and an entire region so the man trying to kill her and her army can be her king. And then he just completely abandons her. He abandoned The Golden Order for her sake and there are statues of them together in the Haligtree. But in the DLC he only mentions her in the same breath he mentions us. This is starting to feel less like a twist and more like a retcon. It's not like he really needed Radahn anyway. Instead of waiting around for 1000 years he could've ascended with Leda, heal Malenia and have her be his enforcer for the Age of Compassion. He sent her to go collect Radahn so clearly he thinks she's capable. She stalemated him with 1 arm and blinded, imagine what she can do fully healed? There is nothing pragmatic about his decision making at all. It feels like From had to strong arm me down this road rather then letting happen naturally. Miquella's plan relies on too much plot contrivance for it to work. The Demigods involved got degraded for a twist with no payoff for the characters or the audience. A twist is best use when it connects the dots and makes you go "Now it all makes sense." But we have to do back flips to justify the story we got and it comes off as barely coherent. The more you think about Miquella's story and the order of events, the worse it gets. Everyone involved looks so cartoonishly evil/incompetent that it's hard for me to take this half of the story seriously anymore. This story is contrived, convoluted and just plain lame compared to anything else we could've got. I don't mind him being good or evil. I hate how he's so laughably pathetic and lame. He was set up as a divine scholar who knew the true nature of the world and its functions but now he's regulated to a gay incest joke by the community. This tragedy isn't sad. It's infuriating.
Good shet bro, the last part about Radahn personally I think is spot on. The attack, the visual & the GODDAMN DELAY is really throwing you off, but once you get ready for it, it is manageable. It is still hard, but it's a fun as hell fight nevertheless.
Miquella was cursed from birth to be a child and his plan is that of a child with godlike powers who can't grasp the complexity of the world. He has seen his sister in pain ever since his first conscious thought, watered the Haligtree with his own blood to help her, failing. At some point he finds out what the Hornsent did to the Shamans and what Marika in turn let Messmer unleash upon them. I imagine it feels pretty bad to find out your mother ordered a genocide and abandoned her firstborn in the Land of Shadow. Wouldn't you think that you and your sister are acursed because of what she did, maybe he even thinks it's his fault? What about Morgott and Mogh, his omen half brothers? It's all child logic in his head. Then his mother shatters the Elden Ring because godhood doesn't seem to be what she'd hoped for, when she ripped the Rune of Destined Death from the Elden Ring, bringing even more pain and destruction to the Lands Between. "Why can't they just be kind to each other? Not even kind brother Radhan let's up with the warring. I'll have to make them". He has no concept what a consort actually is in real life, he only knows it's required to have one to ascend to godhood as an empyrian, remember Ranni needs one too (it's you, dweebs). I'm not saying it's the right thing to do but through the eyes of this child whose power it is to charm people it makes a lot of sense.
props for calling the missing corpses in your old vid (and FS yet again planting a nice hidden detail) I was dubious about it when I watched it then but hey, here it is
2nd phase Radahn is just 1st phase, while Miquella tries to intimidate you. Everything that Miquella does (aside from 1 singular nuke) does shit for damage, and is just there to make Radahn look stronger. His 2nd phase attacks, also retroactively make you better at 1st phase. Like for example, the optimal way to dodge the gravity throw move in second phase, is to run away and jump/dodge at the last second. That makes the rocks less likely to hit you and if you keep running you almost entirely ignore the clones, making it so you only have to dodge the AOE at the end. Now if you apply that logic to the first phase, the gravity attack there (if you apply the same tactic of running directly back and dodging later) will make it so you will never ever get hit by it again in 1st phase.
Every single move he has in 2nd phase, (that is shared between the two) teaches you that unless you were already dodging this way, you were doing it wrong.
26:05 I can appreciate your bias for Radahn but the community has some valid critisisms of Radahn that are objectively true vs your subjective opinion. I'm glad you love him tho. Tbh my only real complaint about Radahn is how visually imparing his holy attacks are along w/ Miquella's hair slapped on top of a non contrasting background. Radahn's health, dmg, abilites & moves are fine and would get him to #2 spot if the visual issues are corrected (I don't expect them to be which is sad bc I think more ppl would enjoy this fight). If blinding the player as they fight Radahn 2nd phase was the point then objectively he is no where near being one of the best bosses of all time and as someone who plays on an OLED display; the blinding animations SUCK!!!
@@heyguyslolGAMING I’m gonna be completely honest, I had no problems visually with the fight. I felt like I was able to see everything. I’m definitely in the minority because I could see what was happening the whole time. It was avoiding it that was the problem early on as it is for most bosses.
Theory I’ve heard is there was once a spiral crucible that the hornet worshipped after Mesmer helped marika she created the shadow tree to cover up the spiral then she hid Mesmer and her entire past by hiding the shadow tree under a veil where the now erdtree rest upon like an attached parasite that sucks the life out of the shadow tree which is covering the hornsent spiral thus leading to the erdtrees golden appearance.
Blessing Level is extremely important. At lvl 77, the earliest level I could manage a fair fight with Mohg, I was able to start tackling dlc content without too much frustration after running around and getting my blessing level to 5. Once I did that the early areas went from feeling impossible to just, feeling like late-game areas I was tackling a handful of levels too early. On the plus side, runes gained in the dlc are so inflated that I shot from level 77 to 120 just from exploring all the areas before castle ensis
IMO it's the immersion and depth that FromSoftware provides in their games. The worlds and story/lore depth combined with a customizable RPG gameplay create make these games addictive. Add in the genre-creating combat and difficulty, and you have a long list of legendary games that other devs try to replicate.
"Lord's Divine Fortification" trivializes Radahn. It's a buff spell that gives you 60% holy damage reduction for 70 seconds. You can increase that to 91 seconds with the Old Lord's Talisman
I actually spent a few hours doing prep before the dlc dropped. Got all the bell bearing for smithing stones and gloveworts, then farmed out a couple mil runes and just stocked tf up on upgrade mats, which REALLY helped whenever i got a new weapon in sote and immediately wanted to upgrade and use it 😂
I cant believe this was a dlc. Took me over 50 hours and apparently im still missing like 3 talisman, 2 spells, a spirit ash and a bell bearing lol. Unreal.
First off, solid review. This made me look at the final boss fight a bit differently and look forward to trying again. Second, I’d say I had a lot of similar critiques, but one of my biggest ones…. was not having cutscenes for some of these bosses. At the VERY least I think Bayle deserved one, with his awesome spectacle in the fight and difficulty, I really think a cutscene even similar to Placidusax’s to keep with that story would’ve sent that whole fight to the moon for me
Great video. I love your way of story telling. It's just a little pity you missed the summon of Igon for the gameplay reason...Also I wish to hear your idea about Marika's lore from DLC
The second phase of the final boss phenomenally shows that you are fighting the New God and his Lord, not just the shattered Lord of the old order like their Father
Note at 32:40 of video, you can revive Godwyn in the base game…technically. When the death bed woman gives you Godwyn’s mending rune, you have technically witnessed his revival, as Godwyn’s soul IS the mending rune. Though this revelation is kind of speculation, and kind of real…it’s a grey area. Though I’ve seen a few vids that gave solid arguments for this idea being something to consider. It up to the audience to decide for themselves.
Finally someone who puts not only respect on radahns name but also acknowledges him for what he objectively is: one of the best fromsoft bosses ! His move set is extremely hard but fair, (maybe expect the fast double swipe) his OST is literally insane, both of his cutscenes are amazing ane epic and all over his difficulty fits perfectly well as the final boss of the entirety of Elden ring. I get why people are disappointed at first to see radahn and I have to agree that there should’ve been 1 or 2 more indicator for radahn in the base game but apart from that his lore perfectly makes sense and for me he is my favorite fromsoft boss of all time ( and i platinumed and every soulsborne game )
@ChosenUndead7 you can't even see what's happening most of the time. Every hit has light follow ups which makes it hard to punish half the time, if you get hit by said light follow up, thats pretty much a garuantee hit from the next follow up, sometimes the AI doesnt let you get hits in and just starts shooting after images at you or staying back using magic back to back to back, literally every move can one shot you so being blind really aint helping, and radahn can literally cancel some combos into others, can keep going Messmer felt like an actual dance where you can clearly see what he's going for once you learned the moveset, he had no real sneak attacks, damage was still tough but usually when you got hit it was your own fault, a prime example of tough but fair
@@GreatRaijin I completely disagree, the combos in his second phase stay pretty much the same, just the additional light beams are new so if you treat his second phase combos like you did in the 1st phase there shouldn’t be an issue. Also you can simply outrun his after images bc he will literally freeze for a solide sec before he does this attack. Also I never saw him cancel a combo into another and I defeated him 5 times already … the only criticism I get is with seeing what’s going on but I personally only had issues with visibility when I was right behind him. And idk if you are doing a rune level 1 run or something but he literally cannot one shot you if you use like 2 defensive talismans… I did a parry run without using amor in NG + 3 and still could tank 2-3 hits
For Radahn, on other big lesson from fighting him in the base game : summons a bunch of phantoms to help you out. After beating him, I put my summon sign to help other players and the fight is even more fun when you have 3 people fighting him. Even some of his attacks seem designed with that in mind. The light clones for example go after all the players during his combo. So if you feel frustrated with the fight maybe try that. It can also help you learn the fight by watching how the other players dodge the combos and you can try to apply it yourself. And if you already beaten him, go help your fellow tarnished.
A lot of what you said about the final boss fight was right on the money. I had to learn how to parry him, something I never had to do against another boss before. The first phase became a breeze after, but the 2nd KICKED MY ASS. My best attempts, the last three with the third resulting in my victory, came about when I, for the most part, stopped treating his 2nd phase differently than his first. Because other than the extra light attacks, it really isn't different.
After seeing more opinions on Radahn specifically, there is one thing I didn't mention it in the video that I feel the need to clear the air on, and that it is his double slash. I did think it was something that was a bit bullshit, but didn't bring it up in the video because I didn't know if I was just terrible at dodging it. It is actually for that reason that I said the fight was one of the best instead of perfect, because that move was one that I had suspicions on. So if there was anything I would criticize about the fight it is that move specifically. However I don't think this one move ruins the fight, and my opinions on it overall remain the exact same. Just wanted to clear the air, stay safe out there!
Finally someone gives the proper praise this final boss deserves. I am sick and tired of internet culture hivemind where everyone parrots what they heard someone else say. This boss is phenomenal, the best and hardest boss fight i ever fought.
I can see why people may prefer the old hunters because it was a fantastic dlc for a fantastic game but I truly don’t think it’s even a competition. Shadow of the erdtree is without a doubt the greatest DLC ever made (followed by Witcher 3’s blood and wine in my opinion). But this DLC is just truly next level for a single player action game. I’ve no clue how fromsoftware continue to cook but they just do. 10/10
Great video! I agree with you about almost everything which is wild. I will say you should go back and fight Gaius with light rolls so u can easily avoid his charge move. When u have an answer to it the fight is actually really good and his moveset is super fun to dodge and counter
if phase 2 wasn't so diabolical i would absolutely love the final bossfight in every aspect, literally the only thing i dislike about this boss is how phase 2 feels
Better end boss? Should have been Godwyn. As much as he’d talked about his soulless brother, it should’ve been him. Best cutscene? Maria of the Astral Clocktower. When you realize that she had done all that in the hospital to find out she was the model for the doll and how she upgraded to defy her hatred for blood arts… hands down…. Maria. I had a harder time with regular enemies than the bosses in the DLC until I reached Radahn. I am no spring chicken (52) so my reaction times aren’t like my good days of Mega Man, and Radahn was genuinely like masturbating with sandpaper. Not fun at all. Heart Stolen was pretty amazing.
The irony of 2:20 is that I'm pretty sure bleed builds got even stronger in the DLC lmao. I mean I think by now we've all seen the bloodfiend arm hype + for once, the final boss isn't immune to bleed like Radabeast are.
Fantastic video and fantastic DLC, but I really struggled with Radahn for all the wrong reasons. I'm not sure how bad it was for other people, because I get really easily overwhelmed by visual clutter, but I seriously just could not figure out what was going on. It's the only boss in FromSoft history that I've had to look up a guide for, just to discern the moveset. While it becomes significantly more bearable once you're familiar with it, I think bosses should be judged primarily based on their learning experiences, since that's most of the time a regular player spends with them. The learning experience for Radahn was a nightmare, and that's how I'll remember him, unfortunately
Finally someone gets it the moveset is the same just has holy damage associated with it. All you gotta do is stay in his pocket and dodge into him its not easy but its such a good challenge
7:40 Sir, why are you that excided about the tree sentinel? I have a love/hate relationship with bosses in bigger brighter darksouls but that YES caught me off guard especially when my favorite part of every playthrough and helping friends is getting to bully the Draconic tree sentinel before the dog boi bossfight. Seriously putting a second version of a boss that is just a variation of a boss you find at the beginning of the game right before an endgame boss with a completely unique pace and set of mechanics from all the other bosses in the game is just straight up FOUL and devious work and I love every second of it. The only thing that makes it better is when we get invaded by some spammer here to troll walking up all confident just for them to eat a boulder that I was saving just for them and me to follow up with the nastiest arcane greatsword combo you've ever seen.

Made that mental note and now I never have to worry about the grab ever again
most of the complaints are about his 2nd phase move set which definitely can be learned if you take your time, besides one move that can’t be fully dodged consistently,
But i can beat radahn solo…i cant beat malenia solo. 😅
Only complainers complained
@@jaytico5835i was only able to beat malenia solo after i accepted that i just need to block waterfowl. I cant reliably dodge through it
Some people may say It earlier, but is completely refreshing hearing someone that, despite having criticism, talks with complete passion on the DLC, and not thinking for the worst for no reason instead of the 30th video just about SotE complains.
Very good video man. You even made me want to fight Radanh again, even if I have mixed feelings.
Tutorial on how to get easy views on RUclips:
-Sees a "critique" of Elden Ring doing well
-Copies said critique video but in a different format with re-arranged words and sentences

The amount of people jumping on that bandwagon is absurd. Especially when their complaints about the boss designs and "artificial difficulty" are so outdated and half-baked
@@mingQWERTY& they're so smug about it. Real bottomfeeder energy
The final boss fight, probably the closest we will ever get in fighting a god like being in their prime in the souls series.
Soundtrack, special effects, moveset, everything. 100% the only boss really deserving of “god slain”
that music and miquella’s lightshow is the closest thing to what divine retribution feels like prolly
I think Manus is closer to it as well
This boss fight is like fighting Goku with swords with Jesuscrist aiding him. Truly terryfing
Nah. It's St. Trina creating a Putrescent version of Radahn to protect her.
Pretty sure Leonard died when we fought Radahn in Caelid, and R has a brief moment of burying him

Btw for anyone dealing with this flurry thrust attack, there is a way to 100% dodge this move consistently, it's just unintuitive lol.
Miquella goes from mysterious to one of the most interesting "bad guys" ever.
I know Bayle was made with Belerion the black dread in mind but honestly it felt like fighting a Balrog
About the review bombing
Its overblown how many people are reviewing it poorly due to difficulty, when about 3/4 of the negative reviews come from Chinese players who had an issue with the anti cheat.
Awesome video. Love your stuff.
Two things:
1 - I do think you need to give a nod to the Witcher 3's DLC when you say that the two best DLC's are this and The Old Hunters.

20 tries ain’t that much lol
you can dodge messmers flurry attack by dodging under it
Great humour and pacing. I can really tell you are passionate on both gameplay and lore
you left out radahn's new "coming down from space" attack, which is actually the most insane move he has
My only problem with the dlc is empty areas. The area after Giaus has one of the tallest structures in the game just for the player to find out it probably just held up a shadow tree arm to drain sap into a bowl… like add a bit more…
I understand this dlc was already massive, something fromsoft has never done before, is amazing, is the best dlc I’ve ever played, I just wish these areas were used more effectively.
Both the finger ruins and the coast kind of get a pass from me since I was just jaw-dropped because of the eerie atmosphere and the lore implications. I actually appreciated their relative emptiness because of the things they made me notice.

This dlc made me go from a unoptimized lightning build to a full on multi status proc bonk man who was ready to find a way to heal at any given moment
This video is great
Having gags throughout the whole review is what makes a passionate video
Overall I agree most of your takes, definitely I love the map design it really bring one small path to a massive area
The boss design minus few bosses overall is at least decent with messmer being my new favourite boss fight
The new content with dungeons and weapons are also great definitely 10/10 for me even with flaws like minor performance issue it did held me back from this incredible experience
I believe both Ratatoskr and user Revanx77, who commented under his video titled “Negative Shadow of the Erdtree Review - Elden Ring”, put my issues far more succinctly than I could. You can skip to 8:24 for Ratatoskr’s section which I’ve transcripted below.
Ratatoskr:
“All right, let's talk about my second criticism.
So if even I am unhappy with Radahn's presentation, then I think it's obvious that there's a problem.”
Revanx77:
“I think that Radahn is a symptom, not a cause.
@@rily2885 These are not my words but come from a particularly bitter player who is not a fan of the DLCs lore at all, u/FemboyBallSweat:
It is poorly executed. His plan is basically "It'll all work out."
Miquella being defined by his failures would've achieved the minimum impact if it was ever addressed or elaborated on at all.
For the flurry move for Messmer, just roll in towards the attack.
I love dodging that whole combo!
A beautiful video for a beautiful DLC for a beautiful game. Thank you for making it, Tarnished!
I did my first playthrough at lvl 90 and then 150 and the difference is very noticeable
Final boss’s phase 2 learned how to “go even further beyond” a Super Saiyan.
Great video, here have some algorithm good boy points
Never did I think I would say "Justice for Mohg" with complete seriousness.
Happy I found this video. Love your energy. Great video. Newly subbed 😌
Finally someone that likes Consort Radahn, I love it, it is my favorite souls boss ever
Also for radahn, if you kill the sunflower, he drops miquellas broken rune, which allows you to get rid of built up charm
"Lord's Divine Fortification" trivializes Radahn. It's a buff spell that gives you 60% holy damage reduction for 70 seconds. You can increase that to 91 seconds with the Old Lord's Talisman
Simply the best review.
I was really waiting for your video on this dlc
Its kinda funny how greatshield and spearpoking completely trivializes the final boss 😂
I loved the DLC so much. I’ve beat it twice and am currently on a 3rd playthrough with a lower level character. I’m going to be playing it for months
You’re so underrated
i learnt to summon mimic. that really helped me with saving my sanity in this dlc.
Played through the DLC twice and I'm still processing it more than any full game I've played since Elden Ring.
His phase 2 is not fair at all lol, you want to see fair all the way through, look at messmer again
@@GreatRaijin can you tell me what is not fair about his second phase ?
@ChosenUndead7 you can't even see what's happening most of the time. Every hit has light follow ups which makes it hard to punish half the time, if you get hit by said light follow up, thats pretty much a garuantee hit from the next follow up, sometimes the AI doesnt let you get hits in and just starts shooting after images at you or staying back using magic back to back to back, literally every move can one shot you so being blind really aint helping, and radahn can literally cancel some combos into others, can keep going
Messmer felt like an actual dance where you can clearly see what he's going for once you learned the moveset, he had no real sneak attacks, damage was still tough but usually when you got hit it was your own fault, a prime example of tough but fair
@ChosenUndead7 honestly, most of the issues would be fixed if you didnt have to stupid light rays constantly filling the screen
I realized that about the light clones when I returned as a cooperator! All the AoEs start to make more sense too.
Well done
Love the video 👏🏻
Funny enough; this is the only FROM DLC that I never bothered to finish. Easily my least favorite.
Lmaoo
Fair enough.
You can fight the winter lanterns. Just have to parry them and then they will take damage. One of them drops a talisman.
@@brianwhitt5331 Can you parry them with defecting hardtear?

I think this is the best take I've seen on the dlc so far. Great video man
THANK YOU!!! This fight is great and I thought it was really strange how little credit people give it! (...aside from the cross slash.)
Man I’ll give you that. I thought rahdan was bullshit, only the extra shit going on the screen once miquella came out but you changed my mind
Besides the framerate issues. My console has never had an issue with anything else in elden ring.

For the final boss, if you have a great shield and the braid holy negation talisman, you don’t have to roll… at all. Just block and counter.
And you didn't even mention "Armored Core 6", which I also really love!
I burst out laughing at the MMA combat joke!
if phase 2 wasn't so diabolical i would absolutely love the final bossfight in every aspect, literally the only thing i dislike about this boss is how phase 2 feels
"Come now Touch the withered arm and you too may travel to the land of shadow"
Finally a Shadow of the Erdtree take that isn't just bitching and whining about the difficulty and how hard the skibidi fragments are to find
so do u just hate criticism of ER?
Promised Consort Radahn made me crave for Prime Elden Lord Placidusax FGD
