This is why I think it’s possible that Hunter can use magic now. Flapjack’s essence might be his portable charger. We know that at least he could use glyphs like Luz did in Hollow Mind, since he unleashed a bunch of them to bust them out.

I interpreted Hunter throwing the vial into the deep water instead of smashing it as him trying to force Belos into a lethal choice. Hunter would literally rather take the risk of drowning (and dying himself) if it meant that it could kill Belos off and stop him from hurting the others. Belos would be desperate to get the Titan’s Blood and thereby would have no option to take Hunter’s body all the way down, where it couldn’t breathe or function anymore. Since Belos left the carcasses of the animals once they were dead and served no purpose, I think Hunter actually *died* because otherwise Belos would have no reason to leave. His lifeless body was useless at that point.
Flapjack probably knew he was dying anyway, so the poor little guy did a trade for a trade in order to bring Hunter back 😞

Hunter died and you can actually see it thanks to his eyes. Flapjack resuscitates him and gives him his magic and he becomes a witch and no longer a grimwalker. His eyes change and no longer are pink
Also, had he just smashed it on the spot it could've been absorbed by literally anything, like a piece of clothing (like the glove Amity wore) and I wouldn't have doubted Belos to just rip that hand off of his, just to power on the portal.
Also, if Hunter dies and takes Belos with him, that still leaves the Titan's Blood if they can find another way to get it, so there's the possibility of the Hexside squad returning to save the Isles.
Not just drowning. Rmember, he grew up in a place where all natural pools of water were naturally boiling. So in an emergency situation, he immediately thought of the water as the greatest natural obstacle around.
They confirmed that the timeskip at the beginning + the pictures in the scrapbook were all gonna be actual episodes in Season 3 before they got cancelled
Camila's dream wasn't strictly about coping with grief. It's much more nuanced than that. It shows some of the struggles of being a parent of a neurodivergent child (& possibly being a neurodivergent parent) while simultaneously trying to cope with the loss of a loved one, as well as being forced to mask their authentic selves in order to navigate a society not built for ND people.
Hunter saying to Belos "What's about to happen should be relative painless, if you just do what we say" is a reference back to Season 2 Episode 1, something that he says when he confronts Luz and Eda on that island.
Basilisks eat magic, they don’t have a magic bile sac, the witches do, and Glyphs use the magic that surrounds them.
2:36 - "How do they have their magic?" We saw in the Season 1 finale that Luz's glyphs didn't work, but Lilith's magic worked fine. Glyphs need the power of the Titan to work but witches evolved that magic bile sac attached to their heart that lets them use magic without glyphs.
4:17 - "How much of a timeskip are we getting?" About two months. They crammed in about 10 episodes of content into that montage, and at least 3 more in the episode. The entire series so far has spanned only 5 months, starting with Luz (supposed to be) going to Summer Camp and finishing this episode on Halloween night.
7:47 - They might have to start storing Luz in the AV Room with the rest of the projectors.
10:00 and 11:44 - A lot of people feel this is Gus implying that he knows about Hunter. He _did_ see some stuff when he cast that spell on Belos during their fight.
14:19 - They've confirmed that Gravity Falls, Amphibia, and The Owl House are a shared universe. Obviously there are no references to either Amphibia or Owl House in the Gravity Falls cartoon but there are a ton in the books and comics, and there are no Owl House references in Amphibia season 1 because Owl House wasn't out yet but so many in seasons 2 and 3.

since all of those are in the same world as gravity falls it would also technically mean that rick and morty exist in it too since they have a bunch of references to each other, this implies *a lot* about their world and the type of magic and mystery it holds

A funny reference is that, in the Diary 3, Dipper told a story of Grunkle Stan where he get married with a waitress in Las Vegas, but he got duped and the waitress stole his car. Well, the name of that waitress is the same name Eda used when she visits the human realm as we can see on a photo of her in a "Banned person list" that she signed up.

You have to watch it again, there are so many details hidden in the episode, like the skin snake from Camilas dream, that Gus seemed to know that Hunter is a clone, I think the golden guard sigil everywhere in gravesfield and so much more
Also this episode shows that they had to put a season or half a season of ideas into one episode .. the montage itself with the coming out, they building a door or as it seems multiple, them going to the beach, how Camila struggles financially to support 6 kids (coupons all over bedroom) .. it is so sad that we won't see these ideas in more detail

And given her love for The Witch Azura books, she'd likely get bullied for it...again.
Sucks that the original reaction got copyrighted, glad you re-uploaded tho, Dana and the crew did a good job with this episode and I feel like it wasn’t that rushed despite the circumstances they were to put up with. Can’t wait for the final 2 episodes next year!

The span of time between them decoding the rebus and the Haunted Hayride looks to be about one day, so they primarily wanted to take the workload off Luz, as well as probably spend one more fun night together before things get particularly serious again
Sure, surprising someone involves not telling them about a thing, but they didn't do it out of malice or to keep secrets. It's not a lack of communication so much as repaying a debt to their caretakers and only allies in this other world

When you realize Luz's joy in loving fantasy and becoming a witch is deep down a "coping" mechanism for her father's passing. It is sad to see that the Season 3 Episode 1 Luz was the real Luz while her personality in Season 1 and Season 2 was a mask.

The people born in the boiling isles, have a bio sac that allows them to do magic. As for lose she glyphs, and the changeling needs to absorb something that’s magic to do magic
Witches have magic biles sacs, so they don't need the Isles or glyphs to do magic like Luz does, and Vee feeds on magic to fuel her own.
I believe the reason Hunter didn't smash the titan blood tube was that he knows that it would just paint his hand with it or whatever is spilled could just be absorbed with anything and still power on the portal, so trying to drown it in the swamp was probably his best chance at getting rid of it from Belos.

The shack belonged to the Wittibane brothers. Hence how Flapjack (“Evelyn”) knew where to look for the REBUS.

Speaking of the episode, based on the expectations I had at the beginning with "Thanks to Them" I would say that if it ends somewhat disappointed but that doesn't mean that the episode was bad; on the contrary, really with the little they had within their reach they made a quite solid product in many aspects, although it is noticeable how accelerated their pace was due to the cut in the season.
There were things that I hoped we could at least see like a more substantial development to Huntllow/Winter or things like Gus revealing Belos's past (If we consider what happened in "King's Tide"), but what else was missed. to take advantage of them even having the cut of the series. However, although I expected a little more content in the plot and characters like Willow and Gus (even Amity at a certain level) did not have as prominent a role as I wanted, characters like Luz, Hunter and Camila carried all the special and his participation was very good along with his character development, which is appreciated.
The animation continues to maintain its usual quality standard, but the highlight comes when we have that confrontation between the Hex-Squad vs Hunter possessed by Belos. I honestly think it's the best animated action sequence in this series, even beating the Eda vs Lilith fight in "Agony of a Witch".
Although we didn't have as much at the plot level (From my perspective), the episode also shines for the interaction between the characters as well as their reactions to the human world; and although they have not been as extensive as we would have liked thanks to the cut of the season, it is really worth seeing these moments that we will surely appreciate even more when the series has finished.
Overall, I thought it was a good first special as a prelude to everything we'll see in the next two specials of the third season. I would give it an 8/10 rating.

Basically anyone with natural magic can work theirs, but glyph magic requires you to be near a titan or a titan's remains. And V or Vee or Number 5 is a creature that has to absorb magic from other objects or lifeforms in order to have any to use.

The reason the magic works for the witches but not luz and needs recharging for vee is because witches have bile sacks which is where magic is stored and presumably produced I’m assuming vee doesn’t have one which is why she needed to recharge with those cards and luz just doesn’t have magic period so she needs the glyphs powered by the isles (thank you for coming to my Ted talk 😂)

The witches have their Magic Bilesack attacjed to their hearts, that is why they still have magic. Vi isn't a waitch, so her magic probably comes directly from the titan, just as the Glyphs, so she and Luz cannot use magic in the human realm, because it is dissconected from the titan

It was never a COMMUNICATION problem, it was a lot of other problems.
Luz and Hunter had more of a self-esteem problem, they thought that what they had done/who they were was so bad that their friends would hate them if they found out, they were just too scared to think logically about it. Moreover, Amity Gus and Willow were Luz and Hunter were the first real friends, so you can understand why they are so worried.
And about that Amity, Gus, Willow and Hunter didn't tell Luz about the rebus, they wanted to surprise her with good news, it wasn't even a secret, they just didn't want her to worry if it was a dead end, and when they realized it wasn't, they just waited for the right moment, To tell her.
I only just realized, Hunter doesnt hsve magic, so V was the perfect one to fight him, becouse then the only person she would be hurting was Belos.

This show... i have undiagnosed autism (just found out my dad has autism.... at his age of 45/46 at the time which made my mom look more into it and bring it up to me) and this show plus plenty others (including amphibia, miraculous, avatar, dragon prince, hilda, etc.) Are my escape into my non masked childish self that just... thoroughly enjoys these "childrens" shows

The people of the boiling isles can use magic due to the magic bile sack they have attached to their hearts. They create their own magic. Basilisks like Vee can only eat magic, so they need magic around them. The gliphs are basically runes so they are not magical themselves but use the magic of the nature around them. That’s why they can use magic. Lilith was using magic in the human realm, only Luz couldn’t

Reading even the shirts are wearing our is the reference to the book that casts and Hunter are reading is a reference to start track cuz we know Gus is wearing a red shirt and then Star Trek the character that always die or the characters with a red shirt with no it's a reference to start tracking a red shirt yellow shirt blue shirt
I simulatniously love and hate the intro. i love it, because I love what they show and how much they put in there. And i hate it, because you can practically _see_ the episodes that those snippets where supposed to be: An Episode where Luz wonders how to tell her Mom that Amity is her girlfriend, maybe is a bit nervous and then Amity and Willow help her make a presentation, An episode where Hunter starts to see belos in his reflection more and more, becoming flustered and mybe slightly aggresive because he is so scared and Willow finds him and helps him with his hair. An episode where they build the proto Portal and figure out how to power it and maybe gus comes up with using the Palismans... It is a glimpse into what we could have had and it hurts so much.
I am thankful for all that we have gotten, but i hate Disney for cutting it short.
