DJ GIG LOG: Wire Management Like a Boss (Pine Orchard Yacht Club)

  • I get asked frequently how I connect my DJ console to my speakers to achieve a clean and ‘almost wireless’ look. This video shows step by step how I use the “MAX CABLE PACK” from NLFX Professional (which includes a hybrid power/XLR combo signal cable) to streamline my power and audio connections.
    These hybrid wires are custom-made to order and have cut my setup and tear down even more since getting the Infinity DJ console.
    No tangles. 👌🏻
    No gaff. 👌🏻
    Not forgetting anything. 👌🏻
    World-class cabling. 👌🏻
    Clean and tidy look.

    Love all your videos, Rachel. You are so inspirational, professional with a great sense of humer...and so generouse with all this information. I'm an older DJ - pre-senior ;-) and needed something light weight that I could move around by myself. I have two Evolve30ms and use them as my mains "almost everywhere" as most events I do are only close to ...or under 75 people. I spread them out and they sound great! Also, love and use the DJ-707m. Wish I could afford that DJ console like the one you use, maybe in the near future: I'm saving up for one. 🙂

    I am a mess when it comes to wire management , now i don't have your awesome type of set up i run with 2 QSC k-12 and two sub woofers , so i need to come up with a plan to do something about this issue of mine , it takes me to long to connect everything and seeing how easy and fast you do it Rachel you just inspired me to get all my gear out this weekend and get it done so next time i can set up in under 30 min...that's my goal ..once again awesome video Rachel , Thank you !!

      I had the same setup as you for many years. I wanted to streamline things and make it so I could leave as much stuff connected as possible. That was the motivation behind this booth. It has cut my setup time by 70%.
      Even if you’re using regular tops and stands wire management can still be easy to shape with some some Velcro ties, a little patience, and rubber mats.
      I’m interested to see what you come up with. Best of luck. Thanks for checking this out. ❤

      @DayNNyteDJs Год назад +3

      We have a similar setup to yours and one of my guys came up with this, so I can't take credit: Bundle one long IEC power cable (top cabinet), one short IEC power cable (for sub), one long XLR (controller to sub) and one short XLR (sub to top). Repeat for the other side of speakers. Now when you arrive at the gig, you have two bundles of wires (the ones you will always need) and you don't have to search for anything. They are even separated into left and right. If you are close to an outlet, run them direct to the wall. If not, run them to a power strip/conditioner under your table. Under your controller, you should have your mics mounted and pre wired. Bundle your mic power wire with your controller power wire and run it off the end of the table to strip/conditioner under the table. If you fear popping breakers, run one power strip under each end of the table. Now you only have 1 or 2 wires running out the back. Wrap everything with velcro when you are packing up and use that same velcro to wrap the wires to your poles when you are setting up. It looks clean.

      This venue is stunning! I wasn't a fan of the divided room simply because I had to use a satellite speaker to cover both rooms appropriately and have everyone get up and move to the next room for grand entrances. It made more work for me! LOL But it all worked out perfectly. This is the easiest load in I have ever had, so I also appreciated that. I really like this venue. :) As for recording, the couple is always asked if I am allowed to "vlog." If they give me permission, I do my thing. It is a public space so the guests really have no expectation to privacy, but if someone had an issue and reached out, I would just edit them out of the video. It's never been a problem.

      @@michaelhernandez6613 the answer is always, it depends. 🙂
      To anyone asking will these speakers cover or work for “X amount of people”, I always say…
      The number of people in attendance is only one consideration when selecting a speaker.
      It depends on the TYPE OF EVENT your doing.
      It depends on HOW DENSELY PACKED the people are going to be.
      It depends on your SOUND OBJECTIVE (how you want to fill the space).
      It depends on HOW LARGE the room/dance floor is.
      It depends on HOW LOUD you need to be at the farthest point in the room.
      It depends on the UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS of the venue/room.
      It depends on your CLIENT’S EXPECTATIONS (think student prom vs corporate picnic; do they want or need to to be crushed by sound?)
      It depends on INDOOR/OUTDOOR considerations (sound moves differently with and without walls).
      It depends on your knowledge of PROPER GAIN STRUCTURE and knowledge of BUILT IN FEATURES of your speakers.
      It depends on what your speakers are realistically DESIGNED FOR/CAPABLE OF.
      Maybe some other things I’m forgetting too.
      Point is…
      Always do a site walkthrough.
      Always understand what is being asked of you.
      Always know the performance limits of your gear.
      Always bring the right tool for the job and you’ll never have a problem. 👍🏻
      I use these for 90% of my events. It’s a great speaker.

      @DJRachelLynch  Год назад

      1. I’d rather be on the floor where the action is.
      2. It’s easier for guests to make requests.
      3. The stage wasn’t available.
      4. I wouldn’t want to deal with lifting my equipment up there. There is no “stage ramp.”
      5. I’m not Tiesto. 😂
      All jokes aside I’m not a bit fan of stages. I’ll use them if I have to, but I’d rather be here the people are. Better energy. 🙂

    Hey DJ Rachel I sent you a message about 2 weeks back regarding having some audio issue with my Roland DJ707M having to adjust the gain constantly when I load a new song on a deck in VDJ. I wanted to know if you were having the same issue since you also use the Roland DJ707M, but you did not respond at all. I also wanted to know how you avoid ed having this issue. Please note I am using a 2021 Macbook pro.

      Sorry about that. I must have missed it. There are a lot of comments to filter through between my various social accounts. 🙂
      I use windows, but in VDJ there is a setting to level out the gain automatically so you don’t have to make adjustments every time.
      Type in “gain” in the search option and you’ll see the options available to suit your preference. I use auto + remember. It’s never really an issue for me because my record pools like promo only and xmix have their stuff dialed in.

    Constructive criticism
    Those moving heads you have, 👎
    The “gobos” they’re putting out are weak and resemble really old basic kid party lights. Get yourself some quality moving heads, or just stick to some color wash lighting, cause those jmaz you’re using, aren’t good at all.

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  Год назад +5

      Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate your time to watch and comment. The JMAZ lights are a great light, actually. They have much more potential than you see here, mainly when you use DMX. Also, please note there is no haze (not allowed to use it) which also unlocks another layer of impact. Truth is, I have zero ambition to learn or deal with DMX, so I use their built-in programs that I can control with their remote control. I turn it on, select a program and let it do its thing. I can’t deal with extra gear and programming. I’m a one-woman show that takes care of EVERYTHING herself, so simple solutions are a must for me.
      Since they are battery-powered, I can take them out of the box, plop them on my totem and call it a day. I can literally have two totems, and two moving heads set up in under 8 minutes. That’s why this is an excellent light for me personally. The battery-powered/wireless option lets me do creative things with them in odd-shaped rooms and venues without being tied to a power cord. To my knowledge, they are one of the only battery-powered movers in the market with about (8 hours of run time).
      I’m not a production company. I’m not a lighting designer. My clients aren’t hiring me for intricate light shows. They simply want to have fun, great music and have the room look good for them to celebrate. I believe I’ve accomplished that here.
      I respect and appreciate those who have fantastic DMX shows and sophisticated lighting incorporated into their setup . It’s an amazing skill set. I just don’t have the bandwidth or passion to do it.
      Either way, thanks for your comment. Have a great rest of your week.
