I was a sophomore in high school when this song was released. There was a girl in my class that I was in love with. We began dating around May of 1974. This became “our song.” We spent countless hours driving down the road listening to the 8 track of this song over the next two years, before graduation and my entry into the USN. We would serenade each other as we drove, and it would always end in each of us stating our love for one another. It’s now the year 2024, and that girl has been my wife for 45 years. We’ve been a couple of lucky kids. Every time that I hear this song, what great memories come rushing back. Thanks, Jim.

This album came out and everyone was a bit caught off guard, because I think they didn't want to like Jim Croce. He wasn't flashy like singers at that time. Yet, one by one, every song became a hit. A record label's dream. Long before MTV and FM radio was just sparking, DJ's on the radio controlled a bit what we listened to. But, Jim Croce was still making a name. Before it was over and at the peak, he died suddenly and it was all over. All who already had this album was happy to have one, but cried over the songs. I had an album. No way of knowing if he would of just had that one big album or not, but he would be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame for sure.

    ■ I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song
    Jim Croce
    Original/Tradução
Well, I know it's kinda late.
    I hope I didn't wake you.
But what I gotta say can't wait,
    I know you'd understand.
Every time I tried to tell you,
The words just came out wrong,
So I'll have to say I love you in a song.
Yeah, I know it's kinda strange.
    Every time I'm near you,
I just run out of things to say.
    I know you'd understand.
Every time I try to tell you,
The words just came out wrong,
So I'll have to say I love you in a song.
Every time the time is right,
All the words just came out wrong,
So I'll have to say I love you in a song
Yeah I know it's kinda late.
    Hope I didn't wake you,
But there's something I just gotta say.
    Know you'd understand.
Every time I try to tell you,
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song.
    ■ Eu Terei Que Dizer Que Te Amo Em Uma Canção
    As palavras saem erradas,
    As palavras saem erradas,

Having recently lost my mom, as I listen to this song, I’m taken back in time to my early childhood, warm summer mornings, my mother, too self-conscious to sing more than a few words at a time, softly humming along, sidestepping every couple feet taking down the dry sheets, reversing course pinning the clothes up on the line in our backyard.
I’ve never missed anyone more in all my life.

My memories of Jim Croce are forever lovingly entangled in my childhood summers . Lived in So Cal throughout the school year, and spent the summers on the family farm in Iowa where my Aunt Pat had that iconic Consol TV/stereo that played LPs..This album had Roller Derby Queen on it, and my cousins and I played it until the grooves wore out!! I was 8 years old and learning harmonies lol
