Sitting here crying. Can't help it. I bought this album for my son in early 1978 I believe . He was 12 and he really liked Kansas and Boston at the time. A great kid who grew up with a real appreciation of classic rock . I absolutely loved being his father and watching him grow into a man. He and I became the very best of friends when he got older . I have personally never seen a father and son as close as we were. We worked together for 15 years and never had one argument . Pancreatic cancer stole my son from me and my life is not and never will be the same for me . I miss him so . Sleep well my son you are always in my heart and in my mind also .

Over 5 years since my brother took his own life. He was born on this day. This song always comes to my mind whenever I think of him. RIP Orion (1983 - 2016).
My dad passed away yesterday and now I'm making a playlist with all the songs he loved and I remember him by. This is one of them. Thank you dad for showing me the greatest artists of all times. Loved, missed and never forgotten 🤘🔥❤️
This was my aunt's favorite song. It would've been her 68th birthday today. I love and miss you auntie Brenda. Also its been 9 years since my mom took her own life. Love and miss you mom.
My dad used to play this song on family roads trips when i was a kid, he passed away last December , listening to this makes me feel such an intense nostalgia.. beautiful song , rest in peace 🕊️ Dad.
Wow in 2021 I'm sorry to hear that, time goes by quick doesn't it? My friend was 14 turning 15 in same month witch is insane, in August the 20th 2008 his Dad passed away and turned into a simpsons character. 😧
Everything about this is beautiful: the harmonies, the lyrics, the guitar, the violin. I remember this song as a young girl. My older cousin used to listen to them rehearse on her way home from school sometimes. It just brings me back to such simpler times. I always loved it, but now at 53 I really understand it. The things we think are so important are temporal. Dust in the wind.

😢. My mother used to sing this song to my when I was a teenager. She had the most beautiful voice. Whenever I hear this song I stop whatever it is that I’m doing. I reflect back on exactly what this song is truly pertaining too. How absolutely beautiful! God Bless. Everything is Dust in the wind!
I remember hearing this song as a child. We were coming back from my dad's company picnic. It was on the radio and no one said a word, we just listened. After that, my dad always liked this song. I chose this and another song for his memorial. I still tear up when I hear it. I miss you, daddy. I'll see you again one day. ❤🙏

I forgot this song...A.I. helped me find it again by just describing. I am very happy to be able to listen to this again...my Father passed away after losing his leg. Talked to him on the phone went to see him and he was gone before I can see him...so I had to bury him. I gave him a final kiss good bye...still can't believe it. Never even imagined it would be that way... This song soothes and reminds me this is life. All our time will come, just make the best of it. My Father was strong he made the best of it and gave me and my brothers a comfortable life. Rest in Peace

what AI did you use? I'm looking for a song myself but can't remember anything about it except the music video where a guy builds a black hole in his garage. If you could drop the name of the AI/site it would be much appreciated
My American husband introduced me to this song, he would play it on his guitar and I loved it. My husband passed away 4 months ago, and this song is now a wonderful memory.
I feel your pain, not as hard as losing a husband though. I lost my uncle 3 months ago who taught me this on guitar. It's still so hard to believe he's gone
Not many realize this song is a paraphrase of a passage in the book Ecclesiastes in the bible. I played guitar and sang this at my dad's memorial service a month ago and barely got through it without breaking down. He was a great example of someone from the 'Greatest Generation' from WWII. He didn't preach at us kids, he lead by example. My very favorite memory of him happened when I was nine years old. All six of us were eating supper in a cramped corner of a hovel of a kitchen, and us four kids were laughing and cutting up with dad. Mom got frustrated and asked why we couldn't have a nice quiet supper. Dad told her "I'd rather hear them laughing than crying." I greatly miss our conversations while sipping a cup of coffee with you dad.
Oh my gosh you are going to make me cry. That was beautifully said. Thank you for sharing this memory. Bless your heart. Cheers to your wonderful father...I was lucky to have a great Dad just like you did.
One of those songs that makes me emotional. Makes you realize how short time is. The older you get, years go by and it feels like a very short amount of time.
I completely agree with you. Life is too short, when you are young it seems impossible that it can end. Let's not waste it, let's love each other and love each other. Greetings from Italy 🤗🤗🤗🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
This song could be a poem, and it still would be beautiful. When I was a junior in high school we were asked to name and explain our favorite song. This was my favorite song. I wrote out the lyrics and read them to the rest of the class. A classmate asked why I would like such a sad song. I said, "it's not sad, it's real." My father was undergoing chemotherapy for bladder cancer at the time. He had already had surgery. Most of that school year, and a little into my senior year I didn't say much of anything to anyone. I was too busy praying, all of my waking hours, for my father to live. He survived that cancer, and also later survived lung cancer due to cigarettes'. He quit the cigarettes''. It's a blessing to me, and the rest of the family that he's still alive and with us to this day. I took comfort in this song, and still do. Be thankful for the people you have in your life. Material things come and go, as do people. But, as I've learned, people are so much more important.
My mother spoke no English AT ALL when she first heard this song but immediately fell in love. She showcased this song to my brother and I when we were 7&5 and had us write the lyrics down and memorize the song. She was the most humble woman I have ever come across to this day, she passed away 2 years ago, I listen to this song in memory of her. Beautiful piece.
I love how this song laments impermanence with a haunting acceptance. The earth and sky may seem permanent from our point of view but even in the cosmological scale they are also dust in the wind. My heart goes out to all of us who every once in a while think about what it will be like to not be here, and those mourning loved ones who already left.
Years ago I was working as a custodian on the midnight shift in a hospital and was called to clean in intensive care. As a coworker and myself started he told me that the patient had passed. Just then this song came on the music station the tv was turned to. It was an emotional moment that I have remembered for almost 40 years.
I lost my mom just a month ago, she was in cardiac intensive care, I sat down to look at her ashes today, and this song has been stuck in my head since, what a terrible yet wonderful world we live in
@@kristen7047 so sorry for your loss, a Mother is the hardest imo. Sorry for your loss. I'm the oldest of 2 younger brothers. I couldn't imagine life without them. My dad passed away March 5th of this year. I'm still trying to deal with it😢😭🙏
As a teenager back then i learned to play this on my acoustic guitar, pretty well . My dad and i just did not get along to say the least, he was too angry and a war vet with all kind of ptsd. But when he heard me play this he'd tell me how great it sounded, we bonded even without bonding. Music is powerful
My father played this on his acoustic guitar when I was a young boy. He was a classically trained violinist but after he finished school he settled into the guitar. He just died and this was the first song I thought of. RIP dad…
The memories, it brings me to tears. I wish I could go back 25 years ago- I would change so much I did so I could be the person I now know I should had been all along . Because I wasn't, life has been hard and sad for all of us. And now it's al.ost over.
This song was played by the teachers at my kindergarten. I still remember those moments, when I was a child and nothing mattered, I was just beginning to know this world. How time flies, what nostalgia. Finally, I found the song, i never knew its name until I heard it in a movie. Now I'm 23 years old, and I understand the lyrics, but I don't believe our actions are worthless. A small gesture can change another person's life, or that of a living being, or the planet. Action or inaction does matter, to the extent of leaving a legacy.
In the 1970's at 16 i sat for several hours several days in a row with nothing but time on my hands and learned to play it on guitar note for note. It was a frustrating enlightening rewarding experience
This song reminds me when I was a child. I can still remember the melody . At that time i listened to music in Spanish and I was not interested in English music. Now, I close my eyes and I can say: Very nice song!!
ya know this song just makes me think about all the time I waste on social media, do followers really matter to me, all the hundreds of likes from people who I once knew from the past a long time ago, people who I haven’t seen a long time, trying to create this perfect life that’s actually not the reality that we reflect? Or let alone feeling anxious and sad for no reason? This song makes me question about the things I should be really caring for.
I was an impressionable 9 years young when this song hit the airwaves. I would play it on the juke box at Shakey's Pizza every time, over and over. I was such a sensitive loner at that age and this song was so beautiful. My parents must've worried terribly that I would turn into a depressive hermit when I grew up. If anything, this song taught me something that any child who's first dog just passed away learns quickly, that we are all just passing through on our way to the next station, and the only thing we own, truly own without any debt, is our soul. Thanks for this amazing song Kansas.
Wow Shakeys pizza..i havent heard that name in years. I remember picking up a girl friend from a Kansas concert and them letting me in the arena for free as it was almost over, they were playing this song
My Sister passed away yesterday, at age 38. This song reminds me of her, and how fleeting this earthly life is. As it says in the Bible ~ "Life is like a vapour, it appears briefly then vanishes". R.I.P Jessica. 😔
Can any pop star today make such a gorgeous song like this?! What a joy it was to hear this song again after many years on Radio 2 recently. Kansas were such a brilliant band.
This song was played on the radio while I was driving on the highway going to see my mom in the hospital. It was when I heard this song, I knew she wasn’t gonna make. God rest her soul
😢😢😭. . . . . . . I felt your pain reading this. Go well darling. Not until the last ripple of the stone’s splash has gone. Until all the lives they have touched, before anyone leaves our life’s. I did make it to the hospital sixteen years ago and saw my mother die but we are all dust in the wind. Hold yourself and feel your pain and may the Goddess be with you. By her Grace, Blessed Be. 🙏
Even as a 13 year old I realized the sheer poetic power of this song...45 years ago when it was first released. I don't think any less of the artist if this is one of his best remembered songs. When a song touches your heart, you'll always remember that particular song.😊
I'm happy to hear of your love of music and the poetic verses of this particular song. It's truly a timeless song, one most can relate too. Be well, be happy 🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶
My sister would play this song when we were teens. I didn't like it much then because it was dreary. It's still pretty solemn but I appreciate how much better the music is than the fluff you hear nowadays.
when I was little I told my dad to change the radio whenever this song came on because it was "far too sad". now I'm in my final days and I listen to it willingly. I wish we all had a little more time.
Lyrics: I close my eyes Only for a moment, and the moment's gone All my dreams Pass before my eyes, a curiosity Dust in the wind All they are is dust in the wind Same old song Just a drop of water in an endless sea All we do Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind Now don't hang on Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky It slips away And all your money won't another minute buy Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind (All we are is dust in the wind) Dust in the wind (Everything is dust in the wind) Everything is dust in the wind (In the wind)
I think if you take a 3 dimensional view of reality, then perhaps. But physics tells us the reality is 4-dimensional, so the past is still there where it was. The structure at all times is permanently there in the space-time continuum.
I remember hearing this song as a child growing up in the 1970’s. I used to ask my Mom what is the meaning of this song. She told me that it is true that our bodies turn to dust, but our souls continue on forever. Now that I am 55, most of my family have passed away. I long to talk with them once more. The past is so close I can taste it sometimes, and yet so far away it shocks me. The only comfort I have is one day I will join them all. It’s true that all the earthly castles we build will someday turn to dust and be mostly forgotten by the young that remain. I guess it has always been that way, so this song remains profound as it speaks the truth.
We are here to grow to serve God & to grow the kingdom & reproduce for the next generations then we shall either after this life is over enter Heaven or enter Hell
@@SamuelBlack84there is an afterlife. If you don't accept Jesus Christ as your savior there is a hell waiting for us. Everything we do here counts as nothing. Admit you are a sinner and in need of Jesus Christ he has already paid the price for our soul to make heaven

The most wise and spiritual song ever written!!! All of sudden I become enlightened and fearless. There is nothing I shall hang on to, it is all dust in the wind. So go out there and do what you scared of! Life changing moment just happened!
When you are afraid of failure, and afraid of success, then you do nothing, which is the sum total of my life. I don't like change, in spite of the popular chant to embrace it. I prefer Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever".

Profound. The music and lyrics makes me want to tear.

Carl W what does it mean? It sounds like incorrect grammar
I AM thanks but as I'm a non-native speaker it sounds incorrect with buy in the end hence this question
It's informal but not incorrect. It basically just means money can't buy life.
And here I thought money could buy personal trainers, personal chefs, and good doctors. My mistake.

A beautiful beautiful song every thing about this song is beautiful 💛💛💛
Thank you for sharing

One of those songs that makes me emotional. Makes you realize how short time is. The older you get, years go by and it feels like a very short amount of time.
I completely agree with you.

Let's not waste it, let's love each other and love each other.
Greetings from Italy 🤗🤗🤗🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
It's a simple song that reaches deep into the soul. The Melodies of masterpiece two guitars in the a violin and it sounds like a full Orchestra❤
This song could be a poem, and it still would be beautiful. When I was a junior in high school we were asked to name and explain our favorite song. This was my favorite song. I wrote out the lyrics and read them to the rest of the class. A classmate asked why I would like such a sad song. I said, "it's not sad, it's real."
My father was undergoing chemotherapy for bladder cancer at the time.
God Bless your family Sir.

I listen to this song to remind of a dear friend who passed 40 years ago. He took me to my first concert...ofcourse it was Kansas!
I love how this song laments impermanence with a haunting acceptance. The earth and sky may seem permanent from our point of view but even in the cosmological scale they are also dust in the wind. My heart goes out to all of us who every once in a while think about what it will be like to not be here, and those mourning loved ones who already left.

내나이 65살 아직까지 제일 좋아하는 최애의 노래 입니다.

Tre , my song when it's my time
Obrigado
The most wise and spiritual song ever written!!! All of sudden I become enlightened and fearless. There is nothing I shall hang on to, it is all dust in the wind. So go out there and do what you scared of! Life changing moment just happened!
I'm scared of jumping off bridges. You're saying I should do that? Okay.
When you are afraid of failure, and afraid of success, then you do nothing, which is the sum total of my life. I don't like change, in spite of the popular chant to embrace it. I prefer Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever".
Simply put Carpe Diem-- seize the day
Ecclesiastes says it well " All is vanity". I only heard of Kansas today. Im also 75 but age means nothing if you have Heaven to go to after you breathe your last breath. Im still cranking my guitar and stomping at the drums. I trusted in Jesus in 1973 and he is my Rock. John 3:16.
Amen brother! God bless you. Jesus saves sinners
Thank you Lord Jesus ❤amen, 🙏 thanks so much for writing 🙏:) my mum is coming up to that age, prayers, love, kindest thoughts n wishes, and for all reading :) if you want pen pals, we would be :) God bless all, ..heaven , God is real, all powerful, loving, kind
Jesus good news for " bad people" bad news for " good people" . From god's perspective we are all bad people. Washed in the blood.
A song for a funeral! The lyrics say everything there is about life, existence, days, time passing by & each individuals journey of passing on to death. Ultimately "All we are is dust in the wind"..
Yess i agree.
We played this song on my uncles ceremony three weeks ago (mainly because he loved this song) and it fit really well. I love this song a lot, but it also hurts me a lot because it makes me think of the moments i had with my uncle. But that is what it's supposed to do in a way so I'm Very greatful of this song.
Sorry for leaving this here but it's my first time losing a family member who i was very close with and your comment made me feel like talking about it so thank you for allowing me to think and open up about it.

Hi Mustapha.Thank you for your kind words & sharing your precious memories. I've lost many loved ones. I find that as time passes it just helps to manage the pain and grief better & the loving memories always remain. There's some lines from a poem that help comfort me with my loss: "Please don't stand at my grave & weep, for I am not dead, but just asleep". Godspeed from the UK & may you find inner peace on your journey my friend..
"And with my Mothers wisdom, I will continue on my journey, knowing ultimately, We are all Dust In The Wind"
My Mums chose this song as her "reflection" piece to be played at her Celebration Of Life ceremony. Wise woman! This song alongside the untimely passing of my Mum has changed my view on life. I miss you with every beat of my heart Mum X

@@donnasears1078 Thank you for sharing your loss. My thoughts are with you.
RIP Robby Steinhardt, great musician, perfect violinist.
One of the most profound solos in rock on this song
Not a bad vocalist either. He definitely helped Steve in vocals as well.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Awwww dang 😔
I saw them live late 80's or so, the band was amazing
Robby was a great talent
I actually got chills seeing his reaction. Yes, the band is THAT good. It’s timeless.
RIP
Robert Steinhardt (violinista e cantor) banda KANSAS

RIP Robby, all we are is dust in the wind.
I played this song for a few friends. None of them liked it. Clearly I need new friends
Dill I've seen your videos, they are great. (You have a good taste in music).
Did you play and sing well? Maybe the problem was your performance. 😉
I live in Kansas. Beautiful song.

People should feel privileged they experienced this before becoming dust
I agree!
