My surplus strength ups high arrived yesterday after waiting for it for two months. It is disappointing. The machining is sloppy with nearly a 1/16" of an inch gap between the uhmw and the bar. It rattles all over the cross piece. The bolt area has no support behind it all. I sent a mail to Jason (the owner) to discuss. At first, I mailed an automated email with a no-reply address without realizing it. When I didn't get a response, I sent it a second time to the correct address. Jason was noticeably upset in his response that I hadn't waited 24 hours for a response. It seems the "no-reply" address did go to him. He offered to send me some tape to fix it. My impression: don't bother with this thing. Rack mounted gliders like the Bully Glyder are a much better option. I personally have that device and it is incredibly well made and smooth. Fits perfectly with no slop. I'm glad I didn't bother to order the ups low or the upgraded pulleys.
@@aba192 It's a rep PR5000. One of the best selling racks on the market for the last few years. The owner or surplus was going to send me a shim to try and fix it but it was easier just to fix it myself and he was not at all nice in my communications with him. Most rack products these days are adjustable because 75mm has become much more common than 3inch.

I opted for a more permanent attachment to my upright in the Bridgebult upper pulley with their weight horns that attack and glide on the same upright.
Jujimufu's company(Grip Genie) loading pins are the way to go. They are a little bit thinner and have a smaller diameter plastic disc on the bottom which makes it much easier to offset large plates and have a stable angle of the pin when removing plates
Finally a SURPLUS STRENGTH review! Been using UPS High for 2+ years - smoother than a commercial gym lat machine - universal fit - smart design - compact - made in USA - veteran owned. UPS High may seem expensive compared to a lat tower, but it takes up no additional space and should last a lifetime. Lat tower needs assembly and requires 20 square feet.

They’re also made with extra thick steel so they’re stronger than you’ll ever need, especially in a home gym. Are they in a higher price tier? Absolutely, but the value and quality justify the price and then some.

Hey, Coop. I'd like that spotter arm review, as well as any others you think are interesting products from that company. Keep up the good work. What do you do with all the equipment that you review that doesn't get added to your home gym?
There's no question that everything Surplus Strength makes seems to be of very high quality, but as you pointed out, this is an attachment that really only does 2 things (lat pulldowns, tricep pressdowns). I know some people will scoff at this, but at the height of the pandemic, I went with a Titan T3 rack and the full Titan pulley system, as opposed to the lat/low row attachment. Sure, its nylon pulleys are nowhere near as smooth as the UPS High's -- I do wish there was a way to limit the side to side motion of the Titan pulleys -- but it was much cheaper (it's only about $110 even now, some 3 years later) and by moving the lower cross braces up one notch on the rack, I can put the low pulley just where it should be -- right about where it would be at a commercial gym. By contrast, even the Rep attachment places the low pulley WAY too far down -- it's more like an upright row.
Great review as always. I love how you point out both the positives and negatives. I've been planning out my first home gym for the past few months and was really interested in the SS UPS for a long time. I'm really not a fan of the Rogue slinger system so this seemed like the next best bet. However, I think I'm going to end up going with the BOS Hydra lat pull-down attachment. It's a true 3x3 that hooks up to RML racks seamlessly. Although I really want American made products in my gym I just can't justify the price point for this item. It gets even more expensive after you include the low row system. I've also heard a lot of people complain about the size of the foot plate on the low row. I think a review of the safeties is a good idea!
Pretty sure they are not in stock yet. But I agree. I have a lat pulldown and their savage series storage racks and both are built great so I have high hopes for that unit.
This seems to be a more affordable option than the (Rep) Ares Functional Trainer that I currently own and really enjoy. Not sure I could use a Plate Loaded Cable Trainer after now using my Pin loaded machine. However, if I had no other option and it is functional and just starting out this looks like a great option for people who do not have the square footage or finances to purchase independent machines for their home gym and just want some diversity in their training. Nice detailed video.
Bought it and love it. Game changing upgrade over Spud's pulleys. Only negatives (other than price): My REP multigrip pullup bar doesn't give the SS pulley hardware much room to breath, so for lat pulldowns, I sit sorta off center. Beyond that, I have an REP Omni rack, so that means I can't use the UPS low pulley attachment. But overall, this is a great product. Use it every upper body day.
I literally tell everyone I know to watch this channel! I’m buying a Rep Ares next week and know there’s some updates to the D Handles. I’m not sure if I just keep the ones they send or get maybe the ones from Rogue. I know there’s a lot of SIMILAR handles out there. I hope there’s a chance you’ll consider making a video for D handles specifically
I have the Rep Fitness Ares and their replacement D handles. I already had the Rogue D handles and think they are better quality. I only use the Rogue versions. The Rep chrome Pro D handles would be very good too. I have their cable chrome curl bar and it is high quality.
I have the unit and have used it for 2 years. It’s smooth as butter with very little swing. Expensive yes but so is everything else in my garage. Space is at a premium for me plus it is made by a US company by an American entrepreneur and by American skilled labor. Instead of making another Chinese billionaire I will support Jason and his company. Mine stays on the top crossmember and I tuck the cable over and out of the way. If the price does not work for you don’t buy it and invest in the item that fits your garage gym needs and goals. That said when I ordered mine it did come with the pins and loading pin. So the model for them has changed since my purchase.
Titan high low pulley system rack attachment! Check it out. Works great. My only recommendation is to face the pulley that the weights hang off in towards the rack and up. This will create better clearance.
Getting a high low pulley station with guiderods made for your power rack is the way to go, IMO. The unit for my inexpensive TDS 2" x 2" power rack was about $200 or so, and had chrome plated guide rods, and the low pulley' was higher than those Coop finds to be too low. Probably a little more than $200 now, but well worth it, IMO.
Are there an aftermarket pulley and track system upgrades available for replacing the sticky and gritty systems. I have Marcy Smith home gym I bought for safety of lifting alone. The pulley system has very little resistance on the negative stroke even after lubricating the chrome track and pivots.
What will lat pulldowns do that pull-ups can't? Correct me if I am wrong, but unless lat pulldowns have some provision to hold a user down (enabling him/her to pull with force exceeding bodyweight), it seems that pull-ups are just as good or better and easier to achieve without this maze of metal.

Coop!!! Can you review the Voltra direct drive cable trainer which attaches to a rack?
Would love to see a leg extension/curl setup using Beyond Power Voltra.
I am waiting for the integrated functional trainer and monster power rack from Rogue to come out and see what Hammer Strength comes out with later this year.
Good evening Mr. Coop,
Great review! Quick question: I have a Rogue Monster Lite 1/2 rack. What is the best (and smallest) lat pulldown / low row attachment (with a weight rack) I can use on the Rogue 1/2 rack? (not a big fan for the Slinger)…. Thank you, sir.
Respectfully,
Robert
Hi what is your lat pull down system ? I saw the rhino logo on it . Thanks
I’d love to see you review Uclips. I bought mine a month or so ago and it’s super versatile. Also would love to see you review stuff from arm assassasin strength shop. I’ve gotten a ton of things from them and Lucas the owner is great at helping with custom orders too
Can you do a review of the Bullet Pulley please!!
Does anyone know if Coop has a video on gym flooring over carpet? I have a carpeted basement home gym that I want to put flooring over and am not sure if this is a good idea.
Please review the spotter arms ty
Love to see the review on the spotter arms. Would love to see more reviews on cable systems. I am still not sure which to buy. Maybe a comparison of the best ones out there. Thanks.
How do the Surplus Strength Spots compare to the Oak Club Alpha Arms? Those are the top two on my list. I like the minor adjustment ability with the Alphas, but both have a very low profile.
What are the mini extension arms on the front/top of your rack where you added the extra crossmember? Can’t find them on rogues site.
Coop, we wanna see it all man, get recording!
I think a dedicated lat pulldown station is the best option. It's the piece of equipment with the smallest floor space.
What kind of hack Is it?? the roller and stripe 3x3 on your power Rack??
Coop can you review Deltech fitness smith machine and rack?
Are major lutie racks any good?
Coop, your reviews are very well done. You cover all the bases and comparisons as well as other options. And your honest. Your very good at what you do. Keep up the great work ! Now as far as ideas. Have you reviewed the Titan leverage squat machine. I hear from a reliable source that it's a very good piece of equipment for quads. Im doing my "due diligence" on this one before I make any decision. Anyway hats off to you.
Nice honest review 🏋
Can you do a review on the nv rack?
Can you do a video on smaller boutique gym equipment companies ?
Hate to take this things thunder but you can get big lats with weighted pull ups and rows… just sayin
Facts
How many times did Coop say 'bougie'?
Would be great to see a comparison video with spotter arms from Oak Club and Surplus Strength. Oak club are making some great looking products but don’t know if I can trust the quality
Stray dog are the other company that seem to be making some really innovative products for the home gym market. Would love to see you review some of their stuff 😊
where do i find the mount to hang gymnastic rings to the ceiling?
Amazon
More small companies yes!
Will the UPS High fit on a Rep PR5000 rack?
Yes it will!
I have inspire SF3 Will this work? If not is there some that does?
No this will work on the Inspire FPC1 with the removal of the bandpegs
This thing looks dope
I'm interested in those stealth spotters
Can you review Dick's fitness gear pro Olympic bench? Its 250 bucks and I'm thinking about getting it.
Where’s the Kraaken review?
Does this fit on the rogue monster lite racks?
Yes it does
Please review the Fitness Reality X-Class Light Commercial High Capacity Olympic Power Cage. I've seen this unit has had some upgrades from 2015 and would love to know your thoughts. Going to add this comment to a few of your videos with hopes you see it.
@GarageGymReviews
👍 Coop, when using the UPS High with a loading pin, does the weight begin to swing during reps? This was the most annoying part of using the Spud Inc. pulley system, but that as you know was just a single pulley. I"m sure the UPS is at least better since it's isolating some of the direction of pull because it has 2 pulleys, but does the weight still swing? Thanks.... Mike
When installed properly, which took me three tries to figure out, it doesn’t swing at all. And I’m pulling down 150-230lbs vertically at a 1:1 ratio
Thanks, I appreciate your reply. What was the issue of installing properly? Did you need to shim it showhow, otherwise it seems pretty straightforward... @@faisalaziz24
@@mikethestockimpaler3049 I had to position the long side of the pulley into my rack and remove my band peg attachment to make it fit. Super easy install and a high quality product.
I wanna see the spotter review
Steadfast lifting has very similar spotter arms and they’re less expensive. Think he just closed the window for his first round of orders.
had my welder make mine and reinforce my rack thanks for idea
Jason from SS is also just a great human being!
It's about time.
1. I can DIY this with a simple crossmember much cheaper
2. Giant had a stand alone for 299
3. Low pullys def need to be higher
Coop on gear compilation 13:57
Love that it literally take up zero space.
Coop, you should review the isolator made my bullet proof!
He already did 😂
Interesting idea, but their price is way out of touch for what you’re getting. As you mentioned, barely a difference of price for a central mounted integrated high and low pulley system? No brainer in my opinion.
Stealth Spotter Review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pulley needs to stay low. Bad call and surprised you recommended that
