Happy to make S-tier! Handles to adjust to a user's height/preference, spinning handles with multiple grips, stainless steel handle options, built in stand with floor protection, removable handles for more versatility as a giant camber bar... hard chrome sleeves... $379 killer price.
I have that Rep bar. It’s amazing. I use it once or twice a week. Deadlifts, of course. Bent over row. Back squats. And it’s perfect for Zercher squats for me at my 6’4” height. Extremely well-made. Perfect balance. Its built-in jack stand is a must; makes weight changes very easy.
Keeping value as a metric is great! Making it clear how the cost changes a piece of equipment’s ranking solves any issues and makes a more informative video as well. So people with the cash know there’s a no holds barred option.
I greatly prefer a tier list that doesn't not take price into account. It actually makes it easier to shop on a budget. If I have $300, I can look at the highest rated bar under $300. When price is a factor, what if there's an A tier for $200 and a B tier for $300? How do I know if it's because the A tier bar is just better or is the B tier one better because it is a better value. Yeah you can add context in the video, but price not being a factor makes a more readable list imo.
17:01 Thanks so much for showing us some love, Coop! We really appreciate it. We're really happy with the OTB100 Open Trap Bar and glad to get the stamp of approval from you. As far as working more together, let's do it! We will be in contact shortly.
Bought the Rep open trap bar based on your review, and it's one of my favorite pieces of equipment. I don't trap bar deadlift often, but I'll program it just because I like the bar. What I use it for every week is camber squat and camber overhead press. It's a fantastic squat bar, and a decent hypertrophy -focused overhead press bar.
Haha I was waiting for the Giant Northland to be up at the top and no surprises there. Awesome bar, solid tier list Coop. Would love to see more of these
I wanna see one for benches, bumpers, iron plates, barbells, literally everything. Maybe even do a company tier list👀😂😂😂 that would be a fun video reaction
great video! love to see more tier list in many capacities, this really is the best way for anyone to decided on a trap bar! Ps dont make the next videos shorter, love the exhaustive format!
Great that you factored in price to all of the products and giving us an idea of what that means in terms of value. Awesome video and would love to see more like it!
Thank you for the thorough critique of all the trap bars. I’ve been looking to add one to the home gym, and you have been very helpful. I don’t think the review was too long. Greatly appreciated.
I absolutely love the REP open trap bar. Would definitely like to see a review on Prime Fitness's open trap bar. This is a great breakdown. Maybe do this for other specialty bars..
Enjoyed this tier list and would like to see more: barbells (olympic, power, general purpose), specialty bars, specialty machines (leg ext/leg curl), cardio equipment (fan bikes, rowers, manual treadmills) and more. Would like to see that review of the Body Solid OTB100 Open Ended Trap Bar. Thanks for the great content!
Appreciate this review, bro. Was looking for a trap bar and based on your reviews, I went with the fringe sport Midas. Really can’t wait to get it in and try. You’re my go to guy for reviews. Keep em coming brother…
Awesome video. Love the tiered reviews. For only $50 more, I think REP edges out GIANT w/ the detachable handles, better balance, and a few other minor features. That said, definitely appreciate your time and dedication to making such informative videos👍🏻
Last year i gambled on the Balance From open bar with the longer sleeves and jacks. I use it regularly for deadlifts and have singled 405 on it so far. It serves me well. I've also done lunges, step ups, and carries with it. I haven't had any concerns with its quality, but i also can't lift 500#.
I had an Eleiko Oppen bar... sold it for the new Oppen black version. If money is no object, there simply isn't a better bar... I don't see the need for a center knurl, but otherwise, it's the best in every way.
I like the format but I wonder if it would be easier to compare if you made three lists at each budget level. Like for trap bars it would be $50-200, $200-$500, and the >$500 or something like that.
Love the format and length, for trap bars I am leaning on Gungnir though Prime Fitness appears to be a good bar as well. So reviews on both would be great. I would really like to see this format from you in regards to SSB's.
I have the prime, decide after doing hours of research. It is really the best bar out there. The only downside is that it is really expensive, but if you can afford it, it is great.
I do love my balancefrom trap bar in a "good enough for now" way, but really want the rep one ... one day. The welds on the balancefrom one aren't great, and there's a bit of offness with stuff being lined up - but not enough to affect anything, and built like a tank as far as I can tell. I got the nice one with the longer sleeves.
I have the rep trap bar. I use it probably more as a camber bar for squats and good mornings. I don’t think I would’ve bought a dedicated camber bar otherwise. I didn’t know how useful they were. It’s really just such a good bar on all fronts. It has to be one of the best specialty bars anyone makes. You can also use it for chest supported rows with an adjustable bench. Rep makes good stuff for sure
10 days ago I ordered the Balance From open trap bar from Walmart, having seen it when your previous review came up in my feed. It arrived 12 hours later. Mine is as depicted and described on the website. Worth noting: I can fit 370 pounds of Vulcan Alpha bumpers (slightly narrower than Rogue Mil Spec Crumb plates) plus plastic Lockjaw collars on it, making 415 pounds total. At this weight the bar flexes on the jack, but the end plates do not bottom out. When I mixed in my plastic coated iron plates I got it up to 525 pounds, and when jacked the plates on both ends were now resting on the floor. I don't plan to go heavy with this bar. 415 is more than I'll use anyway. For Lunges and Farmers' Carries it's a nice change. By the way, I got the Vulcan Alphas based on your recommendation, and after 5 or 6 years of indoor/outdoor (mostly concrete, some asphalt and sandy beach) use they're still great, and their bounce is much less than the Rogue crumb plates. Their sets are now the same price shipped as the Rogue crumb rubber plates, although in pairs the Rogues are much cheaper. Thanks Coop.
great exhaustive yet apprehensive explanation that joins all aspects in the totality of functionality coup! To top off the ideal S Tier bar would add one more kinda massive caveat toward refinement outside of adding knurling to the tighter more angled curvature but not to much as to make it a buffalo ohio barbell - some how some way to the grace of God produce an attachable type MaRs Style Rollercoaster type pad like an SS Yoke - Great Vid Post!
This is a good video and length Coop. The next list video you should do are Power Cages/Racks. It’s one of the most essential gym equipment. Budget racks like the REP pr 1100 and Titan T2 should be in that video
No grade inflation! That was super. I really appreciated the rigorous ranking. It makes the rankings more interesting, but more importantly it is better for the consumer and, in the long run, for the industry too.
I just got the latest series Giant, and love it!! Only $310 after everything plus no shipping, can't beat that.. Built like a tank, and only weighs in at just under 50LBS....
Best gym gear for women as decided by the dudes! ALso this is a great video. Feels like a test for those who watch all your stuff. Got 2/3 of the S cats. Keep this style up.
More tier lists! It would be a lot, but I’d love to see one for whole brand ecosystems, i.e. racks & attachments, for people who are trying to decide their first big purchases.

Hey Coop, what happened to your video review of the Keppi Bench 5000? Seems to have been removed from RUclips but the bench was just re-launched on their website and I'd really like to watch it again to get the details!
Anything that gets a government contract instantly add 50% to the price. Right when the Navy approved a 2k row for our alternate cardio for our PRT I bought a Concept 2 D on Amazon for $850. I looked a year later and it was $1300
I have the Prime trap bar that I got for the features of the adjustable height and the ability to change out the handles. The only downside is that it's not rackable so it's not practical to use for squat or bench as a camber bar. I would love to see a full review on it to see Coop's opinion on it. I think it would help a lot of people. I researched for months when I was deciding between Kabuki, Prime, and Eleiko. Rep was not out yet, but I think I would go with Rep nowadays due to the versatility in using it as a camber bar. I will say that the stock handles on the Prime bar have super aggressive knurling which I absolutely love. Most of my clients however do not like it at all.
Yeeeeah!!! Definitely an honor to get some love! Hopefully we can work with Coop in the near future, we'd love to! (Thank you for being a dealer as well!)
Another thing about a good trap bar for general population is to keep the weight at 45lb/20kg. Easier to calculate weight and also lighter to fit the use case for a wider range of people (aging, rehab...).
@@yichuanwang8016 it's never been important to have a trap bar be 20kg. They aren't used in any competition with powerlifting or weightlifting. As long as the unloaded bar is a weight that is usable by the majority of trainees, it doesn't really matter.
@@BM-si2ei A lighter unloaded bar weight makes the bar accessible by a wider range of population. In aging population, youth, and physical therapy, having a lighter trap bar means a lower point of entry. For the typical homegym owners, having a lighter bar means it's easier to move around.
@@yichuanwang8016 45-65 pounds doesn't really matter for the typical trainee. My 7 year old son and 71 year old MIL can move the Rep open bar around just fine, and it's 60 lbs. It's not a big deal at all
Please review the Prime bar--I'm especially interested in the handle width, does anybody give you width adjustment options? I think it would matter for smaller people.
Definitely do more tier lists. But next time maybe do it more random instead of in order. Makes each one you do more interesting to see where it will be ranked.
😮😮😮😮i am def a trap bar addict and I agree on the kabuki trap bar hd but with the balancing kit they sell through customer service it puts it at S tier for all off the floor excercises, but the inability to rack it I would argue it knocks it down to C tier for versatility. I just bought the version off the kabuki power website and have had it for a month now and the black ice finish is sexy day one but trash day 2 and 3 in a garage and is already rusting on the sleeve despite constant wipe downs with 3 in 1 oil. So in short I knew this and wanted it as the ultimate deadlift trap bar and farmer Carrie's since I rotate grips and work on grip strength etc.I was going to buy the eleiko but I hated for the price the fact there were no interchangeable handles. Eleiko needs to offer a 1.5 in, 29mm and a 2in option. I love the love handles and new stainless steel 29mm handles included on the Kabuki. But for overhead work and rackable work, I got the rep open trap bar with narrow brackets and absolutely love it for those excercises. These 2 bars are replacing my vulcan ox bar. I had the vulcan ox bar for 4.5 years now and was my daily driver and is awesome for the price but it is not perfectly balanced and the knurling leaves a lot to be desired and no interchangeable handles. My last trap bar will be either the klevabuilt or the tnt trap bar since I can rotate the handles to be identical to a deadlift bar or straight barbell and also adjust the height to be similar to block pulls.
Maybe most people know this already, but I don't, since I don't own a trap bar. But I'd like to know what features are important for which exercises. Some bars are rounder and some more squared off - which is better for using as a camber bar? Is there a reason you'd want it rack-able besides ease of loading the weight plates? What exercises does a closed bar preclude or make more difficult that an open bar might allow? And for those with double handles, you'd have the have the opening reversed to use the handle on the other side. Does that create any sort of problem? I like the idea of the Titan rotating handles for this reason, but I have a feeling they'd be in the way for other exercises if they are not removable. Are there any exercises for which the jacks or the stands get in the way? What features would you look for if you were doing lunges, squats, deadlifts, traps, rows, bench press, etc. I'd like to get the bar that's the most versatile for the most number of exercises.
Happy to make S-tier! Handles to adjust to a user's height/preference, spinning handles with multiple grips, stainless steel handle options, built in stand with floor protection, removable handles for more versatility as a giant camber bar... hard chrome sleeves... $379 killer price.
