He's right. What the New England Patriots have done in this era of football should not be possible. Also on the other end of the spectrum the ineptitude of the Cleveland Browns should not be possible and yet they did 0-16 and 1-15 back to back.

This is by far the most thought out segment of his career. I absolute love the genius of figuring out what is going on with the pats. Very nicely said.
Hate this argument. Yes, the 01, 03, 04 teams played great defense. But they’re remembered as great because they won. They beat the GSOT in ‘01. They shut down Manning in the ‘03, ‘04 playoffs in which they were underdogs, btw. In 04 Troy Brown played 8 games as the nickel corner and had 3 picks. Vinatieri made 1 amazing kick in 01: the 45 yarder against the Raiders. The 45 yarder in the dome to win the SB was a routine kick for any kicker in the league. If he’d missed it it would have been a Norwood-esque choke. That was Brady’s first year playing and he failed to win the starting job from Bledsoe. Of course he wasn’t a great nfl QB yet. Of course he needed help from his defense / special teams. The remarkable thing about the game-winning drive in SB 36 wasn’t AV’s kick. It was the ice water in TB12’s veins, starting from the 17 with no time outs, with Madden saying he should play for OT, throwing to the likes of (not) future hall of famers JR Redmond and Jermaine Wiggins. In OT of the Raiders game TB12 went 8-8 and converted a 4th-and-3, got Vinatieri to the 13 yard line. In SB 38, “clutch” Vinatieri missed 2 30-yd FGs in the first half. If he’d hit them Brady wouldn’t have had to drive to the 20 so he could make his last 30-yarder. ... TB12 isn’t GOAT because he had Marino/Manning-like skills. He’s the GOAT because he never did. And yet year after year after year he has been consistently the smartest and winningest QB despite lacking Aaron Rodgers’ arm or Manning’s receivers. In 12 opportunities he’s led 9 game-winning drives in the playoffs, and would have 11 if he had taken more time to score.
I love to watch these old clips, now that Brady‘s gone to Tampa and clinched a playoff there and now that Bella check is 6-9 Colin literally is saying Brady was the system

he is the franchise QB and the MVP, if he is not able to go to the line and make an audible then Matt Ryan is not what we thought, and if the highest scoring offense in the history of the sprot could not score a FG in over 20 min then that is a choke. Also Tom and Brady are GOATs
Gabe Luebbert Matt Ryan fumbled which made it a 1 score game. And he failed to connect with Gabriel on 3rd and 33 to get into field goal range. Complete choke.
Yes Colin it IS GREAT to be a PATRIOTS FAN!!and it always hasnt been the case!.. These are precious times for us .. Treasure it!! it will NEVER be repeated again!
I think there is a organization like the pats in sports. The St.louis Cardinals had a system like the pats did for years. they where the best team for years and still won up until last year and then they still did really well. the Spurs are like that as well.
Everybody on the Patriots absolutely adore Tom Brady. I never seen a player more liked on a team. When they talk about him, you can tell they love him and are being totally sincere about it. I believe that is a big part of their success bc everyone of those guys would follow him into battle and probably take a bullet for him.
Well what we found out when brady left was TOM BRADY WAS THE FORMULA....because when he left the formula did not work....than brady goes to the losingest franchise..had not won a playoff game since won SB in 2002...had not been to a play off since 2007...but Brady took them to the SB on the road through playoff...and beat mahommes 31-9...TOM BRADY WAS THE FORMULA
Then why did he suck in the postseason from 2007-2012? Why did they feel a need to draft a new QB? BB pushed all the buttons. Brady was lucky to not only to be drafted, but to land where did land so he could be taught by the master.
+Colin Cowherd I agree with you 100%. You have masterfully described the genius of New England's system, or shall I say "formula" :-) In referring to New England, I believe Dan Patrick said something along the lines of, "it's the same machine with interchangeable parts..." They're success doesn't hinge on one player. It doesn't matter who they pick up, whether it be from someone else's starting lineup or the scrap pile of written off talent. The Patriots are masters at improvisation and in realizing the strengths and abilities of each player. I liken the leadership of the Patriots organization to a race car mechanic that knows his car better than anyone else, as well as the cars his driver is competing against, hence the reason the Patrios have been successful an dominant. We've never seen anything quite like what the Patriots have done and may very well never see anything like it again in pro sports - this is absolutely incredible.
6 Championships and all of those SB runs over a 20 year run in the NFL will likely never be seen again - literally had to get the perfect combination of the GOAT QB and the GOAT head coach together for this to happen. These guys had to overcome the hardest schedules, no top draft picks (usually picking at the end of the first), and in the salary cap era with very few top-level stars (Gronk, TB12, and for a few years, Randy Moss, are the only offensive HoFers on that squad). What they managed to do is unbelievable.
Im a 4 ever Pats fan. I remember. The '70's '80s games. Ya went to watch the Cheer leaders thats how bad they were. Now im Screaming again! Thanks Tom an Co. For the greatest Games i have seen in my life!
Tom Brady is one of those VERY rare Atheletes who, like David Ortiz, is SO good at what he does, SO clutch, So important to teams legacy and success, that he has earned that most rare of privileges . And that is that HE tells YOU when he's done NOT the other way around. and if he has a couple of off years before he decides he finished, then you DEAL with it. Ortiz didn't have a bad year after many people decided it was time for him to go, and neither will Brady. Brady himself said " when I suck, I'll retire" I hope that's not for a long time, but i think we need to let TOM decide.
Yes but in basketball many teams have won multiple champions, been to the finals, been to the finals back to back. I understand what you're trying to say but what the Patriots just did is amazing. Especially in football getting to the superbowl and the Patriots have been to 7 and won 5. I guess you can say that the Spurs are the Patriots of the NBA but the Patriots are something else.
Spurs have been to 6 and won 5 (not sure if you put more weight in getting there or having a better win %) Patriots and Spurs both have a revolving door of players who either want to get paid and leave or dont fit their mold and get let go. The one constant both franchises have had is All time player talent (Brady and Duncan) and coaching (Belichik & Pop). I cant say the patriots are any different than the spurs regardless of sport.
Nice to hear that the 1990s Cornhusker teams whose games I grew up watching and attending impressed Colin that much. To build that dynasty, they did start recruiting heavily in TX/CA/FL in the late 80s and early 90s, after getting repeatedly burned by speedy Florida/Florida State/Miami receivers in bowl games. And at the time, Nebraska's strength/conditioning systems and equipment were unparalleled, which probably helped recruiting... until the rest of the NCAA caught up. Eventually, NU was brought down to "occasional conference division contender" level by parity mechanisms, like scholarship caps and the Big 12's stricter rules on taking academic partial or non-qualifiers. Drafting late isn't as much of a detriment as many would think. Top-5 or Top-10 draft picks tend to be better players, but they also cost more to sign. Players drafted late in the first round and early in the second round actually provide the best value to teams, because they're significantly cheaper than early picks, while not being all that much worse -- exactly the kinds of players the Patriots are always looking for! So drafting in the #25-32 range every year essentially plays right into New England's personnel strategy. And in free agency, the Pats' history of winning gives the team more leverage in convincing talented FAs to join or remain with the team at below-market rates -- a parity-wrecking feedback loop that contributes mightily to NE's sustained success. "Do you want to make a few million more going 4-12 every year, or do you want to win a Super Bowl?" Meanwhile, perennial cellar-dwellers have to pay FAs a premium just to convince them to sign or stay with the team.
Patriots are the greatest dynasty ever and Brady is the goat. I only see three things that you could put against the patriots. 1. Their division during Brady's run has been atrocious. I mean really bad. Brady never had another great team to compete with in his division. 2. Stigma of cheating. 3. The patriots never dominated in any of their super bowl games. And they didn't win a super bowl with their best team, the 07 patriots.
Since 2002 with realignment if you take out the Pats record for the AFC East and take out the division winners each year during the same time period, the AFC East has the second best winning % in the NFL. The NFC East has the best. Do some research NE's record vs non-divisional teams since 2001 is 143-45. WITH Brady, it's 135-42. vs the previous year's division champs, the Pats are 36-12. 33-9 with Brady. They are also 79-47 vs +.500 teams from 2001-2015. And 77-44 with Brady. These numbers do not include the 2016 season.
+Jack League yea but the Afc east overall has sucked. Who was good? The bills? Nope. The dolphins? Nope? The jets? Maybe one or two years. The Acc east has been pretty soft as divisions go during Brady's run. But he is the goat hands down no comparison
Numbers dont lie but they also dont tell the whole story sometimes. When was the last time Buffalo made the playoffs? 99? The Jets have been decent at best since Brady took the reigns as they've made the playoffs 6 times in the 15 years Brady has been with the Patriots. The Dolphins have been to the playoffs, what 3 or 4 times since the Brady Era? The Colts had 2 in the 2 years they were in the division. So in 16 years, the other 3 teams in that division have made the play offs a total of 12 times..6 by the Jets, 4 by the Dolphins, 2 by the Colts and 0 by the Bills and the Dolphins are the only team to win a div title during that span outside the Patriots. Im all for stats and advanced metrics and such, but sometimes you go by the eye test. Literally statistically speaking Kirk Cousins was a top passer in the NFL last year, but my eyes dont tell me the same story. Literally, statistically speaking, Tony Romo is one of the best passers in the NFLthe past 10 years, but my eyes tell me a completely different story
It has happened before , Boston Celtics. Red Auerbach , take your players strengths and weaknesses and make it the system, most these teams don't allow players to do what they and develop weaknesses it's thing you have to respect about Belicheck, Popovich and guys like Auerbach, players that play hard , prepare by coming early leaving late and pay price for success old school coaching with flexibility with new age ideas, nutrition, training.
Joseph Carter Maybe we should try to get him on a work release program. goes to practice and at the end of the day he goes back to jail. same on game days. his income could then go to lowering ticket prices !! :-)
God I hate these hypothetical scenarios ... what would have happened if Pats had Peyton??? NOTHING would have happened, YOU CAN'T KNOW ... they might have been great, 19-0, or they might have SUCKED "imagine if Pats had Jesus"
born in 86 until 2016 I always thought the best big 3 in Boston was "Bird, McHale, Parish"... then "Pierce, KG, Rondo" .... now its officially "Bill, Tom, Robert Craft"
Im a patriots fan but i wouldn't call not winning a superbowl for 10 years, and then coming back in two superbowls an "unstoppable team"....they are a GREAT team, but it's not like it was easy.
@@everythingbutthegirlfan762 - BB built the system, drafted and taught Brady everything he ever learned. How dumb are you people? Even Brady would tell you that. Walsh, Noll, Lombardi, etc, all were nothing because they had MOntana, Bradshaw or Starr? Really?
it was Brady making subpar weapons viable. Belicheck is still a great coach but is terrible as a GM for offensive players. Brady was the only reason this “formula” worked.
So much for 8-9 last year and Brady losing 2 SBS to the Giants and playing like hot garbage in the postseason for many years until Garoppolo was drafted.
Trx 1136 Yeah but Bayern munich is also in the conversation. Every year you know they are going to win the league because they have zerrooo competition
Hey, Collin. Love the show. Question: Are you indirectly telling me that Brady is put higher than the system? You said that players don't matter, but Brady has been there the whole time. Are you saying that we put QB's at a higher standard?
I shut off the TV somewhere in the 3rd when it was 28 to 3!!!! When I woke up, I was dreading hearing the news then I hear that The Patriots won! OMG!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! LOL
Will Tom Brady win a sixth title before he retires?
Colin Cowherd Who knows at this point lol
Probably will
Maybe. He has 2-3 years left
why not? next year pats will have gronk back, and watch larry fitzgerald join the team for federal minimum wage..
Colin Cowherd yes
Football fans all over the country called in sick today. Belichek went back the office and started on the next season.
Still cant believe what we witnessed. It will be talked about for at least 100 years.

Spurs have been to 6 and won 5 (not sure if you put more weight in getting there or having a better win %)
Patriots and Spurs both have a revolving door of players who either want to get paid and leave or dont fit their mold and get let go.
"Do you want to make a few million more going 4-12 every year, or do you want to win a Super Bowl?" Meanwhile, perennial cellar-dwellers have to pay FAs a premium just to convince them to sign or stay with the team.
falcons should of kept running the ball
"should of"???????? do you mean SHOULD'VE !!!!????? IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kinda cool how in the space of a week, we've had two major sports in which a guy has cemented his place as the indisputable GOAT.
WhateverReally Brady and who?
WhateverReally who's the other??
the closest I can think of would probably be Serena Williams, but she's not a guy, soo....
You mean Roger Federer I think. Respect to both
If you're talking about Federer, that's still a debate.
The greatest QB of all time. period.
Not at all
Hogan made some big catches! Amendola was Mr. Clutch along with James White!
And they didn't win a super bowl with their best team, the 07 patriots.
rdskn4eva he's still had to compete with the steelers and Big Ben, Flacco and the Ravens, and Peyton manning for most of his career.
Since 2002 with realignment if you take out the Pats record for the AFC East and take out the division winners each year during the same time period, the AFC East has the second best winning % in the NFL. The NFC East has the best. Do some research
NE's record vs non-divisional teams since 2001 is 143-45.
But he is the goat hands down no comparison
rdskn4eva Literally statistically they're a top division; t hat's removing the patriots. Numbers don't lie
Literally, statistically speaking, Tony Romo is one of the best passers in the NFLthe past 10 years, but my eyes tell me a completely different story
definitely! Go Pats! and always do your job
Ive been waiting for this since ot last night
The goat sports caster talking about the goat QB. Can it get any better??
The formula is Brady! Tampa has the formula now.
BB built Brady. Brady was a flabby 6th rd pick. You people are morons.
This is the best intro to a video to this dayyyyy😂
“Formullaaaaaaaa”
Nobody:
COLIN:
FORMULAAAA
MJ is the Brady of baskeball
I think he's never heard the word formulaic in his life.
Love your show Colin. I listen often.
You are super well spoken Colin, it would be hard to find a better extemporaneous speaker than you in sports commentary.
Imagine if the pats had Aaron Hernandez and gronk stayed healthy damn they would win the next 3 or so with Brady still there until he retires
we've all seen what happens if Gronk is healthy ... him and Bennett, in the system, that's a 19-0 season
Joseph Carter Maybe we should try to get him on a work release program. goes to practice and at the end of the day he goes back to jail. same on game days. his income could then go to lowering ticket prices !! :-)
Joseph Carter imagine if the pats had peyton
God I hate these hypothetical scenarios ... what would have happened if Pats had Peyton???
NOTHING would have happened, YOU CAN'T KNOW ... they might have been great, 19-0, or they might have SUCKED
"imagine if Pats had Jesus"
+Edmond Tam then the patriots would be renowned for chocking in the big game and there would be no dynasty... duh
One of the best analysis I've ever heard.
Annddddddddddd the fact that they have Tom Brady doesn't hurt
born in 86 until 2016 I always thought the best big 3 in Boston was "Bird, McHale, Parish"... then "Pierce, KG, Rondo" .... now its officially "Bill, Tom, Robert Craft"
my favorite part of the pats being 5 time super bowl CHAMPIONS is being the reason they're not 7 # GIANTS pride
maureen nugent giants are still only team to beat the pats💪
you confuse pride with LUCK!!!!!!!!!
Love the Law & Order analogy. Benson is Tom Brady, always clutch.
Best sport dinasty is Brazil soccer
Collin has perspective. Love hearing his point of view even if I don't agree with him. Great show!!!!
yeah, Bennett is done unless he wants to play for 2 mill..
Awesome analogy. Colin, in my opinion, is one of the greatest at what he does.....
Green Goblin - "Back to Formula"
It wasn’t New England. It was Tom Brady.
Im a patriots fan but i wouldn't call not winning a superbowl for 10 years, and then coming back in two superbowls an "unstoppable team"....they are a GREAT team, but it's not like it was easy.
Gotta appreciate the Nebraska shoutout. GBR
PATS NATION
Lol i liked the vid when u played the belichik clip formula it's so true 👍
5X 5X 5X 5X 5X CHAMPS MY PATRIOTS! #PATRIOTS_NATION #TOM_THE_GOAT_BRADY #BILL_MASTERMIND_BELICHICK
Coming from a patriots fan, All these years later we now know in fact it was the players. one player, Tom Brady.
I'm from Tampa, the system wasn't anything. Belicheck was Rex Ryan but with Brady.
Really?
Brady would say that because he is a class act. It's not true@@afmartin2734
Spurs is similar kno ?
It was 90% Brady. Belichick has been exposed.
There is no bill without tom.
tom Dutzar no tom without Bill belichek
it was Brady making subpar weapons viable. Belicheck is still a great coach but is terrible as a GM for offensive players. Brady was the only reason this “formula” worked.
bennett.. good guy.. big distraction.. loafed around a lot..
Now Brady has 7 after going to Tampa. So much for the system and the formula.
So much for 8-9 last year and Brady losing 2 SBS to the Giants and playing like hot garbage in the postseason for many years until Garoppolo was drafted.
Tom Brady and Bill are like the Jordan and Phil Jackson of the NFL
no---- russell & auerbach!!!!!
Tom was the formula
Spurs Spurs Spurs - forgot about that boring team!!!
It was Tom.
Real Madrid is the greatest Dynasty in sports. Football is a sport too Americans. Not just handeggg
No salary cup in soccer. Soccer is dumb and corrupt
Diego Villarreal Corruption at its best
Diego Villarreal Of course because they become all the help from the Uefa and Fifa
you know perez seals de deals every year :)
that doesn't count, soccer is corrupt, with no salary cap, and with little to no competition for barca and real
If Derek Carr stays healthy, the Raiders will be the Pats biggest competition until Brady retires.
raiders have no defense. good luck
IMA Pats fan, but, Carr is absolutely legit.
How about now doe..
Colin over-analyzing this one. Patriots' formula is give Brady the ball.
So if Brady were standing out in the middle of the field all alone by himself what would happen then?
lol Jason White
I shut off the TV somewhere in the 3rd when it was 28 to 3!!!!
When I woke up, I was dreading hearing the news then I hear that The Patriots won! OMG!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! LOL
Bulls won 6...Lakers won a lot
Celtics won a lot so no Patriots are not the best in sports history.
Andre Spivey Patriots were in 9 super bowls and won 5 of them. it can be considered a legendary accomplishment also
Andre Spivey those sports have series in football it's ONE GAME be GREAT for one game in the NBA game 1 you can play trash but still win the series
Tom Brady since the Deflategate accusation: 28-5, includes 5-1 in Playoffs, 2 Super Bowl wins and MVPs...
Donald Mousseau u might wanna add some wins to that now
Mak that 3 Super Bowl Wins
Are they the most impressive sports dynasty? In American sports, yes, global sports, no. Manchester United
B.S. City is!!!
I really hope you're being sarcastic
Charlie Wright united no they had advantages over the other 19 teams
You must obviously not be English if you think that then
Charlie Wright GGMU!!!!! 😈😈😈
The Patriots are by far the best at what they do !!!! Win 12.6 wins per 14 seasons Avg with 4-14 win and one 16 win year !!
