Hi there! Thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community 😊 It's a tough transition to go from a adults to kids, take it one class at a time and remember to have fun. I hope the channel can help get you started with some new ideas and teaching tip!
@@MooncakeEnglish Thank you! I think it's one of those things in which I'll rapidly improve. I'm definitely not as nervous as I was on day 1. My main issue is running out of content in the first 45 minutes when classes last an hour and a half 😬 Let's, uh... let's play several games.
@@nightknight7208 I used to have that issue too! Now I try to have a ‘circle time’ structure where we go through the same things before the main topic. For example, self intros, weather, days of the week, date, etc. although we do these topics every day we build upon the language constantly. For example, self intros might start with ‘my name is’ or ‘I’m five years old’ but later over time change to ‘for breakfast I had cereal’ or ‘after school I will play with’. That way the lesson is structured so kids know the routine but there are always new things being taught. Then your main subject doesn’t feel like it needs to be stretched out as much. I hope that helps 😊
Hiii I am very grateful for u About a week ago, I started to work at private school. I am teaching 3 and 4 graders. Making students listen to me is being a little bit difficult. How can I make my students respect me? Thanks beforehand.

I've been teaching my brother for a couple months now, and I feel really lost about how to teach him the grammar and vocab, I mean I am kinda fluent in English and I'm able to understand quite a lot, but I have zero experience in teaching, and so far what I've done is just sit him down and read him the grammar, make him do some activities and that's it, and even thou he learnt a lot about the verb to be and is able to say a couple phrases, I feel like I could teach him in a more fun and dynamic way, I'm still trying to figure it out, and is a little stressing bc I really want him to enjoy my classes and learn English but it's hard to teach and I really want to do it right or at least more fun.
Hi Deanna, thanks so much for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I hope you are staying safe and healthy in Singapore right now. Are you currently teaching online or are schools currently open?
Hi Jema. Firstly, great video tips, I've learnt a lot from them. I'm looking at looking getting back into teaching after 7 years being out from it (I had been an Cadet Force instructor for 13 years, teaching 12-18 and some adults, so have a good idea of lesson plans, class layout, and interaction etc...), but for me, I would like to get my TEFL qualification and teach abroad, but have realised it'll be a different ball game to what I'm used to. So my question is, how would you start/structure your very first lesson into teaching English/Introduction to the English language. I am potentially looking at the 4-18 year old age group!?
Hi Warren, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I'm so glad the videos have been helpful 😊 Great question, but a little tricky to answer. You seem to be teaching a very large age range and the approach to teaching a four year old would be very different to teaching an 18 year old. In fact, teaching an eight year old is also very different than a four year old because of where children are developmentally. Generally speaking, my goal with my first few English classes with students is to get an ideas of their English level, and to have a fun and enjoyable lesson. Especially when teaching younger kids, you want to give time to make a connection so that students can relax and have fun while learning. So, I would prepare a larger variety of material so that you can adjust if you find your student is a higher or lower level than you expect. Try to also choose topics or activities that you think your students will enjoy. As I mentioned, its a hard question to answer directly 😂 but I hope that helps!

how about some topics that do not have a matching warm up songs or dance? can students simply just watch the video as a warm up? idea and advice please. this is my struggle sometimes.
Hi Kat, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! If you can't find a warm-up to match the topic you're teaching, then you can review a song or game you have previously played to review that material. In terms of videos, I never use them, you want to kids focus to be on you and not a screen. In my experience, most schools wouldn't like you to just play a video for kids to watch so I would try to avoid that. I hope that helps!

Do you have any videos on how to teach teenagers?
I love your videos, very good strategies. I would be very happy if they had Spanish subtitles.❤️

Hi Caterina, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! Where in the world are you teaching?
Hi, I am teaching in Taiwan. Thank you for the structure and fun. (sometimes you are a bit too fast for me)
I transitioned from teaching adults to teaching kids last week. My first week of teaching kids was... fairly catastrophic. I just discovered this channel, so it's time to binge watch, I guess
Understood. Thank you.
😊 More than welcome!
Hiii
I am very grateful for u
About a week ago, I started to work at private school. I am teaching 3 and 4 graders. Making students listen to me is being a little bit difficult.
How can I make my students respect me?
Thanks beforehand.

Hello from France
Hi Rebeka, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I hope classes are going well in France 😊 What age group do you teach there?
Thanks!! I find your videos very useful, I am teaching in Colombia. It would be great if you can make a video about How to teach reading to young learners.
Hi Yenda, thanks so much for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I'm so glad the video was helpful. Actually, I have. an entire phonics playlist which I think will be helpful, you can find it here: ruclips.net/p/PLWnDxOCiXGiqTS7k7t1EgAwaoPIGZf8kO I also have a free phonics guide on my website www.mooncakeenglish.com as well as some other resources. I hope that all helps! 😊
Hi. Karina, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! May I ask, how old is your brother?
@@MooncakeEnglish hii thanks for answering me!, my brother just turn nine
Hi from Singapore
I'm so glad the videos have been helpful 😊
Great question, but a little tricky to answer.

4-6
how about some topics that do not have a matching warm up songs or dance? can students simply just watch the video as a warm up? idea and advice please. this is my struggle sometimes.
Hi, can help by adding something about CELTA Assignments
Hi Nina, thanks for watching! I haven't taken a CELTA course myself, so I wouldn't be the best person to give assignment advice 😅
