The high voltage cardboard is the cover from the Acorn's PSU & maybe the rusty metal has something to do with it too. Probably worth checking out the innards before switching on.
Cheers Nigel. I really use inspect the whole machines before power on. Especially seeing as they don’t belong to me!! I’ve found a few nice pictures on a Wikipedia page showing the internals now. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
Customs ... ouch Also I would check if that fee for the stuff on loan is valid. I'm not an expert so could be wrong, but you generally only pay a charge if you paid for the item I thought.
Absolutely, I think you should not have had to pay this either... If something hasn't been bought, you can reject the customs via royal mail and ask to deal with HMRC directly.
I'm a metal finisher by trade ultrasonic won't take that off orbital sander start with 80 grit work up till smooth you want to be about 600 grit in the end
Love the way you gently caress the joystick 🥰 I fell on an action man once... Awesome speccy bundle, lovely gift. That a600 case is as sexy as a sexy thing smothered in sexy sauce.
Yeah, i got stung with shipping a few weeks back, 4 working Japanese Sega Saturns, 2 controllers, memory card, and cables for £210 seemed like a great deal, from previous experience (albeit) of many years ago, i thought £20 customs charge, probably a few quid more now, but £54 i certainly wasn't expecting! Anyway Mark, this was certainly one of the most enjoyable video/computer game pick up videos ive ever seen, looks like i'm going to be highly entertained by your upcoming content! Oh, and that transparent Amiga 600 case, wow, your A600 is going to look incredible wearing that little number!
Our high school migrated to Archimedes A300's (separate desktop format unit + keyboard) in 1988, but then used the cost reduced A3000's in 1989-1991. The A3010 was a cost reduced model aimed at home users (sold at Argos, predominantly) I remember the A3000 had terrible problems with the internal plug-in ram modules. There was almost always one or two A3000s in the computer room that wouldn't work properly because of poor connections - the correct solution was to open up, clean the connectors. Kids being kids, they'd solve it by turning the machine off, lifting it off the ground a couple of inches and "dropping it"
Rane Corporation used the "phone jack" power designs like on that 3DO on their audio equipment for a good while until US power standards changed. I have 2 TTM56 mixers that use 6P6C jacks. They had a page mentioning the advantages. A couple that i remember was that it was easy to repair if needed and, if the equipment allowed daisy chaining, could use custom created cables to connect equipment to power in a rack mount scenario. Overall, it seemed like a neat idea that didn't take off and maybe wasn't as safe as it needed to be.
I have a lot of fond memories of my A3000 and, whilst I prefer the case look of the A3010 I can't stand the green keys and much prefer the orange ones on the A3000. I suppose I was just used to that with the model B that came before it, a continuation of the design language which they dropped with the A3010 since they had lost the 'BBC' gig by then.
Some really nice, uncommon things that will produce some fascinating videos for us all to be enthralled by. The A600 case is almost good enough to eat. Imagine if it was orange or green! No, that's weird, and besides the Gummy Brothers might get too attached to it. 😊
You're not wrong about wrapping up those UK plugs - I once bought a vintage synth, it was shipped in a really strong hard case, but the plug was just tucked in and punched a hole in the synth. :-(
When Philips owned B&O they made a TV with a built-in CD-I player, called the Beocenter AV5. And I believe it had the MPEG decoder as well. One interesting thing about the WonderSwan besides it being designed by Gunpei Yokoi: it's actually x86 architecture! It uses an NEC V30MZ as its main CPU.
I suppose that inside a Bang TV they would need to include the mpeg decoder. I had no idea it was x86! That’s really odd. Now I’ll need to read up about that for sure. Thanks Douro ☺️
For the 3DO I made a switch cover, those resolution switches are really annoying to get to without it. And with a switch cover you can easily play around with the resolutions. If you want I can ship you a few, I still have 20+ laying around. Also have some unpopulated RGB 3DO boards laying around. Also designed a 3D printed mount for the RGB out that replaces the Svideo out. (as the Svideo connector is 1 part with the giant dust cover of the composite out if I recall correctly) Can also send the files, though the switch requires a resin printer.
Oh wow Relo! That’s very generous of you! I do have a resin printer here too. If you wouldn’t mind emailing me at markfixesstuff@gmail.com we can work it all out ☺️
Love that A600 clear case. Looks absolutely awesome.. Cant wait for that episode. Fingers crossed it all works out well for you. You deserve it. 😊 Ps. Customs need to give you some slack..
The Archimedes series were all we had at school when I was a kid. They’re also the basis for every ARM (Acorn RISC Machine) smartphone etc we have today. All designed by the amazing trans woman Sophie Wilson.
Uuuh, that's rather unsettling, Mark 😬 - This sudden realisation that there could potentially be a risk for us... you know... of randomly "walking in" on you taking care of a massive load of cringe-worthy-private stuff 🥸😆
That glass A600 case looks stunning. I can't wait to see the full build video 👍
It’s really nice. Might need a touch of persuasion to go together but we will get there!
Looking forward to the DC digital 2!

Yep! I've two A3010s! Good machines, but you'll need to get the battery swapped out ASAP if it hasn't already been!
Great info, thanks Keith!
You've what 2 A3010s?
I'm a metal finisher by trade ultrasonic won't take that off orbital sander start with 80 grit work up till smooth you want to be about 600 grit in the end
Oh wow, that case! I'm definitely going to do the same for my C128 Neo - just found a print design on the same site. Cheers, Mark!
Shipping and customs like that for a loaner? Woof. Hope you split the bill.
Oooooo, that clear A600 case. Now that's going to make one good looking A600.
That has to be the best 3D print that I've ever seen. Can't wait to see the finished article!
Looking forward to seeing the Dreamcast up and running, I think it looks stunning over HDMI considering it's age.
Dreamcast is genuinely a console that I simply enjoy still to this day. I need to find some VMUs but it’s going to be amazing!
Wow! I can't wait to see that Amiga when it's assembled.
Can't wait to see that clear Amiga case filled with parts!
I'm curious about roughly how much PCBWay would charge to print something the size and complexity of that awesome Amiga case...
It’s a lot. I reveal the details in the latest video coming soon.
That 3D printed Amiga case is amazing! I definitely am going to have a look at this for my A1200, would keycaps also be possible I wonder...
I know that keycaps would be possible but I don’t know who could model them. I don’t have that talent myself!
Trap Door is still the best kids show ever made.
I think the Philips video cartridge suffer from bad surface mount caps so well worth having a look.
I didn’t know that Andrew. I suppose it’s the same era as other “bad caps” machines. Thank you for the information 😀
Remove/replace battery in A3000 /A3010 if it hasn't already leaked.
Thanks James. As soon as I get back to England I’ll check that urgently!
Spectrums!!!!!! Anyway, it's good to see the fire didn't burn away your passion for innuendos! (sorry I'll get my coat) 😁
Cheers Mr Abbit! Of course I’m totally innocent and have no idea what you mean.
Bit crackly on the mic in spots, when opening the CDi for example?
Yeah, I messed up the settings!
oh wow! :O that 3d printed case is next level! Will this be available from PCB for "anything"? Must be VERY expensive.
Love the way you gently caress the joystick 🥰
I fell on an action man once...

Most of my favorite channels are sponsored by PCBway. Every time I see that weird lack of rounding on the lower curve of letter B, I want to cry.

Yes to purple DC with DC Digital 2 HDMI! The LED must be orange or green to complement the case. Can you generically expand on the bitfunx issue?

Presumably you should be able to recover that import duty when you re-export those loans? Or is that all His Majesty's 'processing fees'?

The Gummy Crew haven’t seen it yet. They’ll probably think it’s an ice palace for them.
😄

Amiga cace looks amazing I'd also like to try o e of those acorn computers and tge first one is definitely the better looking
A lot of nice stuff there. I look forward to the video where you build the “Prison version” of the A600!
Junk from Japan is always the best junk! Especially when a Wonderswan is involved.
Some great items unboxed here Mark. That transparent Amiga case is going to be awesome though. Can't wait to see that bad boy completed.
Cheers Bobbus. Can’t wait to get back to it ☺️
Alt comment: Ooh, that Henry vacuum must really suck! (LOL).😆
Will trade a dead RISC PC 600 against a working A3010. :P

What is that, a 200 pin connector on that Digital Video Cartridge 😳?
I would not have guessed that was a 3D print. Amazing
Play justice silver sword on the wonderswang.
The immortal joystick is amazing. I have one and it’s amazing
Thank you! Glad you are still getting on well with it!
Ahh awesome! It's been so long I had forgotten what colours you went for! Looking forward to your review. Thanks for showing off the contact details.
Can do a little speccy history and test/repair series with all those
Im definetly interested in seeing videos on dreamcast mods!
the 7th guest or burncycle are great games to to stream :)
May the packing force be with you

Customs love me Mark. They keep sending me letters…
How are you getting on with my old Tandy - haven't seen it in any of your videos yet?
It's in the queue... it is a loooong queue!
Actually I found sticking the UK plug prongs into a block of foam or a small cardboard box works well.
I have at least one of each of those Speccys. :)
That A600 case is georgeous.
WOW that A600 case is epic!!! #TryingNotToBeJealous
You had me at massive load.
Also, so jealous you’ve got an Acorn.
The Archimedes series were all we had at school when I was a kid.
They’re also the basis for every ARM (Acorn RISC Machine) smartphone etc we have today.

Nice!
This case does look GREAT!
Those speccys put a massive smile on my face. I love all of them.
They are iconic machines. So much nostalgia for me.
Uuuh, that's rather unsettling, Mark 😬

Some of those boxes are filled with Fraggles. - Oh, sorry "Frag-iles"? - Oh, they are FRAGILE! I mis-read them; whoops! (LOL).🏤🏣
