My father was a cab driver in the 70's and they used to use old police cars as taxis and I remember this body style well, he loved it! Great job Dylan, keep up the good work, god bless and have a great day!
Love those Gran Fury/Dodge Diplomat bodies as I worked on them in the '80s! Most of the local police cars that we serviced were 318's. 4 barrels with 727 trans. Not a ball of fire with low compression.
Reminds me of a buddy who took an old Dodge police car and converted into a "commuter special". Some type of V-8 (police special??). Interior gutted, big push bumper in the front and most important.. ice cold AC. It looked, drove and sounded the part. No one was going to challenge him in a road rage incident with that big bumper, solid steel frame and beat up exterior. Perfect for rush hour traffic.
Just discovered this build today. Binge watched it all. Pretty good stuff man! I like the way you present and narrate, family friendly as well, had my boy watching. But this is the perfect project. Love the old rig with the modern efi&forced induction! Keep at it. Subscribed!
Hey Dylan, I just wanna say is that I think your the Jedi master of fixing cars. I’m so glad that your a dad now. I think your son will help you fix cars with you when he’s grown up. Also I want to apologize for what I said last year. It was just super unprofessional of me. I was like that bc of climate change. Everything about it is being destroyed & upsetting. But I’m a change man now. You know I’m also a big buddy with my next door neighbors at our lake cottage. For 3 years now! Piper is 5, & Mayva is 4. When I first met them they were 1 & 3. So yeah that’s all I wanted to tell you.
Dylan, I just wanted to inform you that the transmission you installed is a TF904 originally designed for the cylinder slant six later behind the 2bbl. 318. The most common failure of the 304 is third and reverse which share the front clutch assembly. You may want consider installing a shift kit in the 304 or installing a 727 transmission. Great job!!!
You are cracking me up young man. I watch you and the things you do or don’t do because you get excited before you have everything checked out and it reminds me of the days when I was about your age and making similar mistakes. Good luck.
Well I just found your channel . I guess you know that original engine had 360 heads and intake on it if it was a four barrel police package car . I bought and sold a lot of those police pack cars . I always wanted to put a 360 four barrel police pack engine in a Diplomat or Gran Fury . I have a 88 fleet package Plymouth Gran Fury with a 318 -2 barrel roller lifter engine and I've got a 79 Chrysler Newport ex Texas DPS police pack car with a 360 that I need to pull out and put in my Plymouth someday .
I couldn’t be happier for you, Dylan! This is by far my favorite of your projects, especially since I used to own an ‘88 ex-TN Highway Patrol Diplomat. I would’ve loved to build a sleeper setup like yours! Cheers!
That old ignition system was probably giving that sniper a headache real bad. You have to wrap wiring with tesla shield near the ignition related components its so sensitive.
My uncle had a 77 Monaco that was a former police car. It had the 440 in it and one night he took full advantage if that when ran from the cops. I don't know what the police at the time were packing, but he won that day. They probably lacked SCMODS.
Those Dodge Diplomats were great cars. I drove several ex-police cars that transitioned into security patrol service. They were very reliable and solid cars despite a lot of abuse!
There’s just something about retired police cars both old and new(ish) that makes them way cooler than a standard version. It’s like a friend getting out of work to go have fun.
I like your sump setup. I EFI'd my Fifth Avenue and wanted to go with an internal pump. Ended up having a gas tank make from aluminum to do it. Factory tank didn't leave enough room for 3" duals out the back.
I love the sound of this car, really sounds mean. Your dog is beautiful, too. Reminds me of our dog who died recently. Keep up the awesome work man. God bless and hope your family is all well.
I had a ex police diplomat back in the 80's. It had a 4barrel 318 and was super heavy duty. I sent a letter to Detroit with the vin# and they sent me a huge thick pile of specs and part numbers. It had weird stuff like extra thick seat springs and heavy duty door hinges for fleet use. Even extra thick ground straps for radios. Ran pretty good too, although the trans was a weak point as in most Dodges.
A lot of people have been having problems with the Holley Sniper fuel injection systems. Personally I would not use the Holley Sniper system because of the problems they have.
Can’t wait to see what that 318 is about I have a 5.2 318 in my 97 dodge Ram an I love it definitely wanted to play around with it but it’s a solid work truck only mod I did was exhaust an two inch lift is good enough for me lol much love on your build buddy don’t forget to send it one time for the mopar guys 🤙🏾🤙🏾
When you don't have a bead roller for Turbo Tubing. An old mountain bike handlebar grip trick, is to spray it with hair spray and slip it on. Once you put on your clamps, it will not slip. You can use Dawn dishwash liquid, just takes longer to dry.
My second job was when I was 15 yrs old at a Chrysler Dealership, in 1986 we had 2 of these Dodges police cars brought in for PDI, bare bone cars but lots of fun on highway to Paris for licensing.I think one had a 360 fun when gas was free
26:12 In the past, I’ve literally just taken my crimper, my wire crimper the one for uninsulated cramps, and went around the whole pipe and crimped a Pump if you will in the pipe, which was good enough for boost piping
Ahhh maan, I had a 1987 Plymouth Gran Fury, ex-FBI car. Bought it with 41.000 miles on it and it was CLEAN! So great to see somebody put in an effort. Thank you.
Hi, You did a good job with the paint. To be honest I kind of like the rough look it had, it would be great to stabilize the rust with, perhaps a satin clear, it's just my taste. I'm really enjoying your videos, and cool cars back to life too.
Great job! I was really getting antsy for some progress on this car and was about to email you and ask if you gave up on it. I have several of these and Volares and I work on them for relaxation. Keep up the good work!
Very nice, one thing I will add having tuned a lot of vehicles including sniper, using the laptop is a MUST. The pre-made timing table is atrocious. Make your own timing map or find one online to use. Also spend time going Over everything. Set up all the adder tables for fuel and spark. The handheld is just for initial start up, and monitoring. Take your time and don't go heavy into boost first rip. Data log and do a light pull, take it home and review it, adjust, repeat. Cool project
You're a lucky man. The Mrs. comes out, turns the key a couple of times, and the car comes around. Maybe hand her the tools?😁 P. S. I see by other comments you're a Dad now? CONGRATULATIONS! That's all kinds of fantastic!
Dylan, when you build the engine, did you grind the piston ring gap for a boosted application. I would hate to see it break a ring and destroy your new engine. Great video. I love your channel!
I'm hoping Holley has fixed a lot of the problems people have been having with the sniper efi systems. I keep seeing everyone that runs them having computer and injector issues.
Ooooo, that main power cable mounting is scary, one good cut and a high amp short is made that you cannot do anything quickly about (unless you have a battery disconnect) and if you are doing 55 mph, you first have to stop, pop the trunk, etc., plenty of time for a fire to start. I would wrapped that power cable inside one or two protective coverings and then run it inside the car, under the floor carpet and on top of cushioning, or under the door sill plate protective covers, and out the firewall through a heavy grommet.
Dylan you should put some cut rubber hose over one of the fuel lines so there's no metal to metal contact between the fuel lines. Metal to metal contact over time is going to cause a hole in one of those lines.
I'm not sure if you have one or not but I hear people talking a lot about wideband 02 sensors and fuel pressure gauges with on there boosted engines, but I really don't know much about the new EFI systems that are out there today, last time I built a turbo car was 22 years ago in the form of an 85' Dodge Daytona turbo Z. And with those back then you just modified it the way Mopar Performance recommended, according to there performance books that they sold.
😂😂 Everytime Your Pup Dixie starts playing with there Squicky Toy my dog Tommy Wakes Up and Looks At me Like im Are you ready Dad like im messing with his Toys Lol to funny 9:21 @Dylan McCool
Now just gotta do a trip to Bikes and beards who relocated to TN for some SHERF badges. Love these my Dad drove a 5th Avenue back in the day, basically same thing dressed up nicer.
Word of the day "theoretically" hahahahah thanks for sharing your adventures Dylan!! Credit to the good luck charm the key turner extraordinare Mrs McCool!!
I would love love love to see you build the replica police car from the movie black sheep. I remember being a kid and just loving the way that car looked!
Hopefully you learned: 1. duty cycle style IACs are supposed to dance around to maintain idle airflow, this is normal functionality. 2. The IAC is not 'freaking out', it's trying to open when the RPM suddenly dies to keep it running. 3. You don't need in excess of 10 volts generally to start an EFI car, if you needed more then people would be stranded when their batteries start getting old. Basically if the starter has enough grunt to turn it over fast enough the EFI/ignition system will work.
FYI Ol Tymers trick. Take your used motor oil and coat the bare wood on your red trailer and the wood will last a LONG tyme. Just thought you might like an alternative use for your used motor oil 😉👍
I owned a Dodge Diplomat back in the 80's, an ex Indian Nation Police vehicle. All white with hand operated lights but no cage or roof lights. It had a "Certified Speedometer" which was accurate too! I had a wonderful time wherever I drove as it was obviously a Police Car, but with no lights sirens or decals, I was not impersonting a cop. Everyone moved out of the way on the roads and driving on the freeway was fun as the traffic always parted and let you through. Wish i could have taken it back to the UK when I returned back. Miss that car.
Good girl and you should spend time with her on video keeps my women in the house wanting to keep watching. I hate when people assume that someone is neglecting play and attention time with the pup. Great video as always, thanks for sharing this with us and especially have a great evening and enjoy your Labor Day weekend Dylan!
My father was a cab driver in the 70's and they used to use old police cars as taxis and I remember this body style well, he loved it! Great job Dylan, keep up the good work, god bless and have a great day!
WOW THAT CAR IS SO CLEAN UNDERNEATH!!!
I would have thought SURELY the underside would be Swiss cheese and yet its smooth, clean and solid!
I grew up in a Diplomat and would love to find one like this or a Fifth Avenue! Well done sir!
got an almost rustless survivor 82 diplomat, incredible interior, clean title, if you're interested
68K, got some issues, quite affordable.
@asn413 what state you in
@@asn413yeah, where are you located? I'm in PA
The Chrysler Lebaron 2-door coupes were pretty cool looking cars also.
Love those Gran Fury/Dodge Diplomat bodies as I worked on them in the '80s! Most of the local police cars that we serviced were 318's. 4 barrels with 727 trans. Not a ball of fire with low compression.
Just remember, a grinder and paint will make you the welder you ain't. 😁
To quote PUDDIN rattle can Dan.
Caulk and putty is yo buddy.
Bondo mud will make you into a STUD! 😮😊😅❤
Key word for video...edit!!!😂
You don’t need to worry aboot porosity- peggin leggin

That thing is going to be a BEAST! Show the LS's who's the boss! Just got my Roadstoration sticker on, might be one of the first in Canada with it :)
Wow it sounded so much more like a true hot rod after that new distributor. Can’t wait to see it perform
Dylan, I just wanted to inform you that the transmission you installed is a TF904 originally designed for the cylinder slant six

Love how you break it all down and make it sound like I could possibly do a project in my garage
I like how he ran into issues. Not that it was good he did but it's a good lesson for the viewers to expect things to go wrong despite good planning.
You are cracking me up young man. I watch you and the things you do or don’t do because you get excited before you have everything checked out and it reminds me of the days when I was about your age and making similar mistakes. Good luck.

I have to admit, the oil geyser had me dying. Been there, done that hahaha
I’ve been missing this car, always happy when you upload. God bless you.

Nothing I like better than building something that nobody else isn't!

Great choice on vehicles. Lovin the old police cars. She's going into hot pursuit mode real quick. That's a 10-4!
I had a ex police diplomat back in the 80's. It had a 4barrel 318 and was super heavy duty. I sent a letter to Detroit with the vin# and they sent me a huge thick pile of specs and part numbers. The dual sync distributor cleared up a lot runs much better looking forward to seeing the second half of this Dylan.
I did dual batteries to the rear, ran 0G through the interior. Clean and no worries about it under the car.
I’m anxious for the follow up video of this!!! Good job!
Thanks for giving these cars and trucks a well-deserved 2nd life. Keep up the good work, love the videos.
So cool man you can take this thing to countless events and make some good skits with this car
I appreciate the scripture you left. Very encouraging. Sweet ride man!
I've been waiting for an update on this car👍👍
Loving the progress!!!😃😃😃
welcome back, and congrats on your newborn. welcome to parenthood 😉

Don't be skipping church now, especially with that verse in the description!
The Dip was my first agency-issued cruiser. Certainly wouldn't mind rocking one around town now.
Ahhh maan, I had a 1987 Plymouth Gran Fury, ex-FBI car. Bought it with 41.000 miles on it and it was CLEAN! So great to see somebody put in an effort. Thank you.

Great job! I was really getting antsy for some progress on this car and was about to email you and ask if you gave up on it. I have several of these and Volares and I work on them for relaxation. Keep up the good work!
Man this is an awesome build I can't wait to see the next episode thanks for the great content!!
Ahhhh last of the V8 interceptors! if you get the quote, kudos.
I missed seeing this car , its 1 of my favorites honestly !

Sounds and looks great! I love this project car. Great work Dylan 👍
The look on Dylan's Face When the car randoly fired up for a second just Priceless 😂😂 16:39 @Dylan McCool
Should take this to Rocky Mountain Race Week..
You're a lucky man. The Mrs. comes out, turns the key a couple of times, and the car comes around. Maybe hand her the tools?😁

Sbc or Is it a 5.2 318? If so a 5.2 I thought they were distributor on front of the engine like fords?
I'm hoping Holley has fixed a lot of the problems people have been having with the sniper efi systems.
I keep seeing everyone that runs them having computer and injector issues.
Good to see your wife enjoy your videos. Keep it up. Thank you.

Thermo Quad on top was a great touch!
I love the idea of bolting a "space age" system on top of an ancient iron block. the designers NEVER would've imagined people doing this.
Man that’s smart. Order 2 factory pre bent lines. That looks great.
Glad you’re back! Welcome to the parent club😋
Oh my Goodness that Exhaust looks Amazing Very Nice 😮 @2:50 @Dylan McCool
Fantastic work!! I appreciate you keeping it interesting and genuine.
Always nice to see your wife Ally come out and Help with the projects 42:30 @Dylan McCool
❤❤😢
Cute cameo by Dixie!...atta girl!!...very interesting and informative video, kudos!!!
The Duke boys are gonna have trouble running now
Dylan you should put some cut rubber hose over one of the fuel lines so there's no metal to metal contact between the fuel lines. Metal to metal contact over time is going to cause a hole in one of those lines.
🇦🇺coming along great
Nice to see your wife involved
Finally the turbo is happening, I almost thought you'd given up on the idea 😂.
Great video! Didn’t know there are all those parts that work for old Mopars, thanks for the info!
This is a treat for us mopar guys. 😁

7:40 Love this idea! But I don't know about that much pressure. But what do I know about those cars. Nothing! Lol. 😂❤🎉😊
That exhaust rumble is beastly 😮 love it 4:02 @Dylan McCool
Now just gotta do a trip to Bikes and beards who relocated to TN for some SHERF badges. Love these my Dad drove a 5th Avenue back in the day, basically same thing dressed up nicer.
Those cars from that era are so cool
Can't wait to see it go down the road i bet it's going to really run awesome
Late seeing this one but I think the Mrs. needs to be in the shop more often, she can fix anything 😂
Great job Dylan!! Really enjoyed this build.
That fuel pump is sweet 6:40 @Dylan McCool
I see the Bose speaker in the background my friend has the same one very great speaker for the size highly recommended
Word of the day "theoretically" hahahahah thanks for sharing your adventures Dylan!!

This your next hot rod Power tour car? It’s pretty cool. I like the non usual stuff. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
It’s good you know old school mechanics

Main power cable to the back UNDER the car?
Should be fun once you get it figured out

On the cop car I had I painted all the chrome plastic pieces like the bezels around the headlights and it looked good on the dark blue
Once society has totally broken down somebody is going to inherit a bad ass Mad Max car.
