Spraying Mesotrione and Prodiamine Together and Separately

Today I sprayed the last of the sprays on the lawn for spring - mesotrione and prodiamine. The mesotrione (generic tenacity) is both a pre-emergent for weeds (including weedy grasses) and a post-emergent for the same. Prodiamine (generic Barricade) is just a pre-emergent, but it is much more long-lasting than the mesotrione pre-emergent. Because I overseeded about six weeks ago, there is baby bluegrass everywhere, and this will now have a chance to take over where the existing weeds die, and no new weeds will appear to compete with the new grass until the prodiamine wears off in late August.
In late August I will overseed again, and spot spray mesotrione wherever their are weeds. Again, the mesotrione will allow the bluegrass to grow, but will kill existing weeds and prevent any new one's from growing. I will likely frost seed in late November or early December as well in any areas that still need it.
The area I am working on was a very overgrown pasture that was solid weeds when we bought it three years ago. The first year, we removed all of the trees, weeds, bushes, and vines, then just mowed what was left. It was dramatically better than what was there before, but after about a year I was driving by, and noticed it was mostly crabgrass, dandelions, and plantain. It really looked terrible, so I killed the weeds with 2,4,-D and overseeded that year. It got dramatically better that year, and the next year I started this program to clean things up - and that's where we are today, year two of a lawn creation process, and things are looking fantastic!
I also sprayed prodiamine on the garden edges and paths as a test this year to try to lessen my summer workload as weeding is a real chore with a 300 foot-long garden! If it works, I will continue that next year and beyond.

I don't want all of them gone, just the one's on the stretch of road in front of the house. The back is where nature happens. On a different topic, a friend just showed me a few bee houses. I'm going to build a few rustic ones out back - but they also live in the dead trees and wood piles that I leave when I clear. 🐝

Cheapness 😉 Mesotrione is generic Tenacity - I believe it was about half the price.
