My daughters first favorite Cardinal. Guy was a great Cardinal and embraced what it meant to be a Cardinal.

I love Goldy too he was great and a favorite Cardinal of mine. I wish him well on his next team but it's definitively time to move on to the future Let's be excited for all the young talented players to see what they can do

I think Goldy will do better with a new team and it gives the Cards a chance to see about their young players. A win for both !

If he has a rebound year most everyone will be screaming that we released him to soon, if he doesn’t most everyone will be screaming we should have traded him when he won mvp. Sports fans lol. Honestly I hate it but it’s needed. I want to see fire on the field. Yadi, Contreras etc.

Im with you on Goldy. Super ballplayer IN HIS DAY. Sadly, his day has passed. There's a place i see him flourishing, he's always killed it in Milwaukee's park. I hope he doesn't go there

No they didnt screw up moving on from Goldy. He was a very classy player on both offense and defense but the Cards screwed up when they gave him a stupid high contract carrying him at at age 36 and 37 for $26MM a year (not counting that $20MM signing bonus. History has shown us that very few great players continue to play great beyond age 35, especially power hitters.
I would have loved to have seen Goldy perform in 2023 and 2024 the way he did so well in 2022 when he was 35.
When i look back very few players do well beyond age 35. Guys like Warren Spahn, Tom Seaver, Satchel Paige, Gregg Maddux, Nolan Ryan were enigmas by playing so well into there 40’s and none of the guys were strong power hitters. The Cards made a dumb contract offering Goldy a deal carrying him to age 37 at that salary level. I suspect they would have loved to retain him at a lower level and may have offered him an extension at $8--10MM with performance incentives but were turned down.

We will miss his play at first not sure a lot if players catch some of the throws
His contract has been reported anywhere between 13 to 18 million

    • @Bigbirdreese1600
      @Bigbirdreese1600 2 дня назад

He's not worth the 13 to 18 million considering his age , production the last 2 years. But some organization will sign him..

Still like Saggese and Wynn up the middle. I Arenado still here, how about Gorman as DH. Like Donavan, Nuet and Walker but I would platoon Siani in center and days not starting brig in late for defense. I like his defense and speed, just need to work on ways to get him on base. Work with hitting coach to hit where they pitch him and maybe throw in a few bunts for hits too.

Great show JD! I totally agree with you about moving on from Goldy. I hope he signs with an AL team that has 1 series in the Lou so we can say a proper thanks and goodbye.

You think the Cardinals should have dismissed Stan Musial in 1960 or 1961, JD? Like Musial, a Paul Goldschmidt in decline is better than an average MLB player. But you would say "thank you for your service, Stan, but we're moving on"? And I don't think the comparison of Goldy to Pujol's situation validates what Mo is doing to Goldy. Pujols was not near the end of his career when he left StL, he in fact played another 10 years more, and the contract he got from the Angels was for more money than StL offered. Goldy has previously stated he wanted to play through his 40th birthday. He might make it, he might not. But the salary he gets for 2025 wherever he goes will not likely be for more money. StL could definitely match any offer without it being a bad decision, business-wise. His offensive production in 2024 was pretty darn good compared to the average MLB player these days. He led our team in home runs, was high up the list on rbi's, and defensively he was much better than average. He saved our infielders a bunch of throwing errors. But it's about more than a little cheaper contract, JD. When it's known that a player is about to end his career by choice, it's definitely disrespectful of his past years of effort for the team to force him to leave.
Goldy might well get the votes to be in the HoF someday. He was an NL MVP while he played for StL. He likely would have gone in as a Cardinal if he got the vote --- before this disrespectful move by Mozeliak. Then what will it look like to baseball fans when the news stories say Goldy is choosing to go in as a Diamondback? I wouldn't blame him at all if he does that. Would fans be so dismissive of due respect if Mo was leading the Cardinal's front office in the early 1960's and had told Stan Musial to hit the road after he had a couple of down years near the end of his career? (which I'll remind everyone Stan the Man improved on in the next year or two before he officially retired, and it didn't harm the Cardinals keeping him on, since the team won the 1964 World Series)
I will be so glad when Mozeliak is out of StL, because he seldom made the right decisions for this franchise while he was in our front office. The Goldy decision is just one more to add to the list.
Last point and then I'll stop. Everything you said in summary about Goldy applies just as much or more to Walker, as far as the team's success (or lack of) in 2023/2024. And I don't care how many at-bats are given to Walker in 2025, he will not exceed what Goldy would have done.
(Herrera could have been Goldy's understudy at 1B, and play there on days off given to Goldy or when Goldy was in lineup as DH)

As Triple H said it's best for business to let Goldy walk. He was paid very well and respected in St Louis. I was hoping they would bring back Kyle Gibson, but they didn't. I understand why they didn't. Grow up Cody!!

There’s a rule that a team can’t resign their free agent for less than 80% of the salary in the last year of the player’s contract. Goldy would have to be paid $20.8 M by the Cardinals.

Wilson COntraras will hit as a 1st basmean. I have NO doubt. However, there will be mistakes made. He's learniga new spot. I'm wondering if he has the lateral movement (Side-to-Side) left to right movement. that's key to a vey good 1st baseman. . He does it as acatcher. . I have to remain psoitive. NBow, this is a really dumb thought process, but , I keep seeig Mr. COntraras in my mind crouched like a catcher over at 1st base, wearing his cathcer's maks. He doeoes that, we might have issues....ha ha ha.

Emotionally I hate moving on from Goldy. Love the guy. But business wise, you can't keep him. Costs too much, produces too little and blocks kids from coming up. Love ya bud, but it's time to part ways.
Saggese needs to PLAY! He needs the reps at the plate to get better. We KNOW the glove is solid at 2nd, just needs a little more time seeing Big League pitching. Gorman is definitely the wildcard here. WTF do you do with him. He needs more coaching to be a 2nd baseman, needs to get better hitting big league pitchers, so he's still baking. Baker seems to be the same. Needs more baking.
Hopefully the incoming staff increments will seriously help the situation. These young guys need a LOT of coaching!

Burleson should be playing first most of the time. They are going youth supposedly, so Baker needs to be platooned at first long enough to find out if he is good enough. DH Contreras and still have him catch some until someone else can throw people out at second. Hopefully Crooks is that guy. Loved Goldschmidt, I said trade him last year. We have to move on from Arenado as much as I love him.

Agreed on all points! Even if Goldie plays well with whoever he ends up.
The Cardinals have to go through with the reset! To do that they have to cut bait with Goldie and move on with the youth!

I believe it's called not having good starting pitching, a dominant bullpen.
Without that you basically have zero chance to go deep into the post season...😂😂😂😂😂
Year after year after year the front office failed not having good solid pitching ..
