The Tommy Edman thing just continues to piss me off so much. How come he wasn't able to play all year with us and then friggin SHINES in LA about a month later. I don't get that. But ok, I'll breathe and see how '25 will look. Once again JD, I love your contributions. Thank you for the positivity, much needed in these trying times!
Extending Winn is a good idea, and affordable. To get Helseley, to agree to an extension, would require a lot more money than the Cardinals would be willing to spend.
Helsley had a great year because he only pitched the 9th inning. The year before we saw him choke when you asked him to go more than 3 outs. Why the F would you want to make him a starter???
Good idea, but the Cardinals would never give him the money and years it would take to lock him up long term. Also, one thing to consider when doing a contract for any pitcher, is that they are just one pitch away from Tommy John surgery. History tells us that giving any pitcher more than a 3 year deal, or at most, 3 years with a team option is not a good idea.
I would wait one more year before offering Winn an extension, but if he repeats last years performance? 100%, give him an extension! Look... We all love Hell's-Bells. We really, REALLY do... But if we're committed to "letting the kids play," and doing a growth year, then extending number 56 doesn't really make a ton of sense. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, per se. But, we have to prioritize less volatile positions (i.e. the starting rotation). If a team is willing to part with a strong SP prospect, who might be one year away from the show, I think that has to come first. We know that not every one of Hence, Hjerpe, McGreevey, Thompson, Rom, Graceffo, [the list goes on], we know not all of them are going to pan out. Look at Libertore. He's probably going to be a bullpen arm, which is fine, but it does mean that's one less starter option. As such, making sure we have a fully loaded rotation should come before we try to lock down a closer.
Helseley is going to want at least a 3 year deal worth between $75 - $100 million. Some team will probably give it to him, but the Cardinals never will. Before giving a ridiculous contract to any closer, it is a good idea to consider what happened to Josh Hader after 3 amazing years with the Brewers.
I’ve been a cards fan since 1973, I’m also a disabled veteran, we have the right to express our feelings bro, more importantly we need those rights. I hate the constant bashing but they’ve kind of earned it. Cards always hold on to players a year to long, or sign them to a long extension a year to early. Love Arenado but if we get younger and potentially better let’s do it before we see him turn into how Goldy looked this year.

Born and raised in the lou August 18th 1969 let's go Cardinal Nation
Always love it when Thomas stops by for a visit!

I’m on board with extending Helsley and Winn
No on extending Helsey need to trade would like to see a couple more years on Winn first

Helsey could potentially break the cardinals all time saves record and be a red jacket candidate if they lock him up long term.

J J Whetholt maybe the ss of the future. Sign Winn to a couple year deal
The one thing also is Albert Pujols likes him

Who do you see that they non tender on Friday
Not sure I would ever extend pitching in this day and age. Winn? I’d love to see it but doubt it at this point with the DimWitts.
Trade Arenado, Trade Helsley that simple.
Bruh I'm not even a Cardinals fan and I know that either of the extensions will never ever happen
I would be okay with extending Helsley but not with a lengthy contract. We definitely need to lock up Mason Winn.
