I personally like using the varmint rifle in story mode just because of how good the sights are the fact you can mount a scope low recoil and the sheer amount of bullets you have in the magazine. It’s basically free head shots as long as you can aim

It's a good thing pelt quality isn't a concern for legendary animals, because that poor thing was basically peppered to death
The autoaim when you lock on always goes to the same spot so just get good at flicking the aim up a bit and the Varmint Rifle becomes a headshot MACHINE. Like the game becomes too easy because you can just literally headshot everybody out to a huge range.
Can't tell ya how many flocks of birds I've wiped out with this gun. It's great for small animals (I've killed so many that it was considered poaching and I gained a small amount of bad honor each time I did it) and headshots on people but anything bigger than a beaver (with a clean headshot) might as well just use the bow.

@@dukemeiser19 the tranquilizer ammo is for collecting samples for Harriet for online. even if you kill some small game with one shot, the pelt/plumage will always be in poor condition. Not worth the time unless it's 2x/3x payout

Jesse didn't have a hidden revolver. A revolver we holds 6 shots, and he shot the dude in the duel 5 times, and when the gun wa stolen, the person who stole it got multiple shots off before jesse blew his brains out. Edit: I watched the scene again, and I was wrong.
The varmint rifle was OP in the early days of red dead online because a headshot with any weapon killed people instantly and the varmint was only $80

I like shooting enemies in the neck with this rifle cause you can get consistent bleed out animations.
I used this rifle when the O Driscolls raided shady Belle and I mowed them down headshot after headshot. This gun is underrated.

I accidentally had it on me during the odriscoll invasion mission in ch. 4 and it was somehow pretty good

Actually it's based of Winchester Model 1890 rifle.
