My very favorite Bruce song.
That line has stayed with me my entire adult life. Simply brilliant.
This song is a brilliant masterpiece of storytelling, where everybody can relate to and deserves the nobel prize for literature. Bruce can express feelings like nobody else and this version is extraordinary awesome and beautiful and touches me anytime I hear it.

Personally, I think this is his best song. He writes with empathy.
I agree. I was a young teen when this song came out and I didn't gave enough life experience to understand how profound this song is. Fast forward more than 20 years and I now realize just how deep this song goes.
Within this song is the struggle of loving someone and wanting to know who you're with, but understanding that we can never fully know another, just as no one can truly know every facet of ourselves. It is an uneasy truth to face. One that I've had to face after a very long marriage. I realized I didn't know so much about the man I was married to for 20 years. I only knew the parts of him he wanted me to see.
Included in the Greatest hits 1995, so how can you say that´s underated ?
Had a driveway moment listening to this gem. I love his singing and her interaction with him. Hate his politics, but love his music.
He touches the heart like great artists do. He feels the human condition to his bones, and his politics reflect that. He's a bleeding-heart liberal, and I'm proud to say he and I are kindred spirits. Long live Bruce!

This 47 year old, rediscovering this song, is smiling at the 16 year old, who knew the words, and sang this song in 1987...how life perspective can change a song!
Now you understand the meaning. I've had the same experience with a number of songs as I age. Teenage me knew the words...older me knows the meaning beyond the words.... One of the few good things about aging...lol.

Tunnel of Love was only the second album I ever bought and is his best album so far I'm my opinion. Simply beautiful on so many different levels.

I think the lyrics are about a man who is in love but has several doubts about the woman who he's in love with.
Their children have the 2 coolest parents on earth !!! This just shows the outstanding songwriting and strong strong raw performance ... Just amazing.
Something great happened in 68. A great artist performed his music full blown and then stripped himself down with just a guitar. They called him The King. For an artist to perform live and stripped down ...when we suddenly realize that he is most compelling this way.... only shows how great this artist truly is. Bruce certainly did it here. As it was done in 68. That's why he is The Boss.
