We have a 2017 CR-V Touring, which we chose over the RAV4 because of the styling (exterior+interior), the tech, the ride, the space, and the near-luxury feel (fit and finish). Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with both vehicles~~ Both are great picks and some of the most well-known and popular in their class. I've owned this generation RAV4 for 4 years, and I can say that it is a great vehicle, very simple and easy to drive and use, and overall great vehicle. Toyotas are like tanks, so maintenance is not going to be an issue. But again, both the CR-V and the RAV4 are probably some of the best choices when it comes to this class of vehicle.

The Honda CR-V is the better choice hands down. It looks better... It's amazing to think that there was a time where American family cars were primarily V8, RWD sedans. These commuters need to start demanding personality in their cars again before all we're left with is 7 different flavors of Ford Escape.
You're an idiot if you think progress necessitates blandness. 90s cars were far less polluting, far more reliable and far more efficient than 70s cars and they were a lot more fun and the car market was more diverse. Today, people consume cars as an appliance and are willing to accept poorly made, uninspired, unexciting crap. The issue isn't progress, the issue is an apathetic consumer. Also, in many ways these cars aren't progressing technology. Engine head design on many cars is becoming less advanced now than it was 10-15 years ago because companies don't want to spend the money on R&D when a cheap, old solution is available with turbo chargers. nihoole get a cx5. Plenty of power fun to drive. Avoid the Subaru boxer engines, they have a tendency of burning oil from the factory. Mazdas have come a long way reliability wise.

CVT transmission and Turbo and Direct fuel injection are no go's for me. Huge costs coming if you keep it past 50,000 miles. You cannot rebuild CVT's, you have to replace at about $5600 to $6000.
You could be right but I'd also argue that there would be so many parts for the CRV given how many of them are on the road that it'd be pretty cheap to find just about any of that if you're willing to look.
I just bought a 2019 CR-V. I love it the only complaint I have is it's noisy going down gravel roads and the seat belt is hard to latch over my fat belly!
Put some sound dampening under your carpet if you go down a lot of gravel roads. Also use it in the (inside) doors in the car. Think one good brand is called Duramax.

Huge Toyota guy but hands down the Honda CR-V is the best option out of the two. Step up your game Toyota!
Crv 💙
I wonder why south east asian markets have the button shifter like the upcoming 2018 accord 2.0t and here in the US we have the regular shifter :/
No rear vents on the Toyota ! We bought the CRV Touring. Much nicer.
Mark Bow much nicer and more headache eventually hehe. 1 bottle of tylenol for small engine with turbo and 3 bottles of advil for crappy cvt tranny peace out!
How is your car doing rn?? Have you had any trouble with the turbos, oil dilution?? We also bought a rav4 in 2018 and it’s doing perfectly fine
@@MiguelLopez-fh7vx It's fine . there was a recall that was done one it to prevent the oil dilution problem. The car overall is fine . Nothing to write home about , we find the quality is lower than the Accord line. I think because it's based on the civic chassis. Fit and finish is just ok . trim is lower quality than the Accord . I personally wouldn't buy another one but it's my wife's car . I drive a Toyota Tundra and it's amazing !
The 2017 CR-V was the best redesign Honda did lately. It looks very premium (LED turn signals in the headlights and tail lights) The turn signals in the rear are very Escalade-like.. This back looks like a Volvo and a Lexus RX... Why couldn't Honda make the 2018 Odyssey and Accord premium looking like the CR-V, since they are the more expensive models?
Thank you for this video, very helpful and I recommend test driving both .
I like the rav4
The CX-5 is the only crossover in this segment that I don't find hideously ugly.
The rav4 has led taillights on se, limited and platinum
What kind of video camera that you hook up to these SUV for recording? Thanks.
Us news review ranked 2017 RAV4 on 12th spot, from best to less, due to Rav4 sluggish engine, loud accelerating.
My friend complained Rav4 slow acceleration for uphill drive.
I drove his car, found slow acceleration, loud engine noise uphill driving.
Honda's turbo engine accelerates much fast with the Eco mode off. Not sure if that was off or on during the test drive.
I don't care about the design. Rav4 is good or toyota in general. Toyota make very safe vehicles making TSS standard on ALL vehicles even the base models while Honda with their Honda sensing optional on their vehicles costs $1000 more. I'll go with Toyota in a heart beat. Honda or even other brands needs to learn from Toyota.
Well, Hyundai does that too... Who cares?
Go check that RAV4 failing the offset crash for the passenger side. Typical toyota corner cutting.
Great Review, I can't stand cvt's even if they get better mpgs and no more vtech crazy for honda.
One thing I don't understand is the CR-V has a pano roof available in the Canadian version. Wonder why they didn't bring it to the USA?
So... Rav4 = Visibility. CRV = Everything else.
I love Honda, but this new generation is the biggest eyesore
I bought my 2017 RAV4 Hybrid new. Road noise has not improved much from the '09 limited I first had. Maintenance has been of no concern with either car. The Hybrid does offer a little better get up. I hope my nephew likes it when I'm gone. Last car I will own barring accident.
wish you would have compared a Limited to a Touring. the SE rav 4 is a midline trim whereas the Touring is top of the line.
Great review. Although the rav4 is due for an overhaul. Tough to compare. Better would be to compare them when rav gets the new 200hp n 8speed combo.
Lol at your comment about the honda lift gate opening faster for people who are impatient
Like opening it manually is WAY faster
RAV4. Not gdi, no turbo. Simple and reliable
That shine on the CR-V bumper blinded me at 2:28 😂
Fantastic review guys!
After tested drive the CRV, I was surprised that I liked it and even consider buying it.
