BTW, in 1987 there was NO mention of climate change or global warming, the issue back then was 'holes in the ozone layer' which also turned out to be a nothing burger... but a lot of politicians made a lot of money ridding the western world of CFCs.

This song had such a profound impact on me as an 8-year-old in 1987. It helped to set my sail on the path I am on - one where I think for myself, do right by others and not consume myself with all that glitters in this world. In the end, it all fades away anyway. There is only one thing that matters, and I try to live my life by that. It isn’t a path for the faint of heart. But the wealth that lies in the end is far greater than any treasure here on Earth. Whenever I feel myself letting go, I start singing this song to myself and it sets me right. Thank you for this wonderful song, Mr. Wallinger! I hope you found the peace you so richly deserve in the hereafter that we all strive for on this Earth. Your song is an anthem for those of us who know what is right and what is wrong and do our best to keep on the right side of the line between.

We're setting sail to the place on the map
from which no one has ever returned
Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool
by the light of the crosses that burned.
Drawn by the promise of the women and the lace
and the gold and the cotton and pearls
It's the place where they keep all the darkness you need.
You sail away from the light of the world on this trip, baby.
    You will pay tomorrow
    You're gonna pay tomorrow
    You will pay tomorrow
Save me. Save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of fools. No, no
Oh, save me. Save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of fools
I want to run and hide right now
Avarice and greed are gonna drive you over the endless sea
They will leave you drifting in the shallows
or drowning in the oceans of history
Traveling the world, you're in search of no good
but I'm sure you'll build your Sodom like you knew you would
Using all the good people for your galley slaves
as you're little boat struggles through the warning waves, but you don't pay
    You will pay tomorrow
    You're gonna pay tomorrow
    You're gonna pay tomorrow
Save me. Save me from tomorrow

I bought this on one of the first CD singles ever released as a double a-side with Private Revolution in 1986. In July I finished school and went to California for 6 months and one day while watching MTV saw this video for the first time and was blown away when I spotted our previous house and garden that we had moved from just months previously! It turned out that World Party had squatted in the house, turned my parents bedroom into a recording studio and filmed both videos there. Private revolution was filmed entirely in our garden under the ancient Cedar tree (that has now sadly been cut down), with Sinead O’Connor on keyboards
