same when we were in practice I was back row and the girl on the other side spiked it down going like 60 mps or whatever n it the bottom bone and I sucked it up and tried it again and I hit it like 4 more times and it hurt too bad
I fell backwards and support my body from left hand by palm opened. So my left thumb got sprained maybe by getting stretched opened outwards during that fall. It's been 8 weeks it's paining and now causing thumb trigger at front joint but pain is also at bottom base joint of the thumb if i press with finger . I can't open tight bottles or jars with left hand and thumb starts to pain and also drop things due to less support from that thumb. Will this help it get well the taping technique.
Very helpful! Thanks so much! Another trick for remembering this taping method. Start at the center, right under your palm. Make two loops outwards, once around the thumb, then around the wrist.
This video is so helpful. I dislocated my thumb and it just wasnt healing properly. I stil have to do some everyday chores & Im getting so sick of feeling like an invalid. This method feels so supportive I think Im going to finally heal
I have a doubt, I sprained the thumb of my right hand in soccer training (I was an archer) and it made sense, I mean when I hit it against something very strong it hurts, so I wanted to know if this bandage would serve me in volleyball so that it does not hurt so much when hitting the ball.
Yo thanks for the guide, had a minor thumb injury so hopefully this'll help stabilize it when I play again in a few days, my own method wasn't that effective lol
Thanks Zackie I prefer using 25mm elastic adhesive bandage and reinforce it with rigid. You can use rigid throughout but your thumb mobility will be hindered So really it’s a bit of give and take
Cool taping technique. Quick question. Can this type of wrapping technique support the front of the wrist as well? I feel some pain in the front of my left wrist when I press my fingers on a flat surface while lifting up my wrist off of the surface. Don't really know how to treat it at the moment.
Thanks for the comment Dat1boi really it depends on the stability of your thumb, time after injury, how well it has scarred and the only way to determine this is through assessing it. I would recommend you seeing your local health professional so they can have a look at it.
My thumb hurts everytime I rotate it and I don't know when it started but it could have something to do with me playing basketball and shooting a lot so I guess my question is can you use this tape when shooting around and playing basketball and will it help stop the pain?
Hi Talemwa if the tape helps the pain or not is a trial thing. Realistically you want to know what the underlying injury is so that you can determine if you are doing further damage or not. Therefore you do really need to see your local health professional to get a diagnosis and plan. This taping technique may be part of that treatment plan but will not be the sole treatment for it
To help keep circulation and not have the tape too tight, you should cut the tape each time you have finished a rotation... I believe you are taping too much at once and thus cutting off circulation...
Hi the tape I use is from IDM called Maxiplast. You can also use all of the larger tape providers as they will have they own version. The main type I used in this video is the 25mm Elastic Adhesive Bandage. I then provide additional support using 12.5 mm rigid tape - I personally rip 38mm rigid into strips as I don't always have access to the smaller version in the clinic Hope this helps
Sorry but isn`t it too tight? I didn`t tape yet, i want to do this but it looks too tight. So, I`m not sure. Someone who did, is it ok? Did your thumb become blue?
The person performing the taping technique really guides how tight this is. If you are concerned you should check your capillary refill and then you always have the option of re-taping your thumb. Hope this helps
Good video. I keep jamming my thumb each catch in women's FLag football and both my thumbs and pinky is hurting and swollen. The same fingers keep hurting with every catch . I haven't even have my game yet. This definitely looks like it will help. I'll do this before practice tomorrow.
Hi isela most local areas should have a sports tape provider, unfortunately it is unlikely to get this tape at the chemist. If you don’t have a local provider I’m sure you could order online at one of the larger providers like leko or elastoplast
Hi @linda kutch if it is a true trigger thumb it would be best to use a splint as you normally have to splint these for extended periods and having tape on your skin would not be good. I would advise you to see your local health professional as they can diagnose it and set the best course of treatment
Personal I would use the 9mm for the thumb then use 50mm EAB for the wrist and reinforce with rigid tape This would be more cost effective and supportive
Hi. I actually broke my bone. (not at the joint) between the first and the second thumb joints while playing volleyball. But unfortunately it reattached slightly to the side and is causing a lot of discomfort while I am gyming. Will this taping help?
Sorry to hear. Unfortunately the tape won’t change how the injury has healed. It may help reduce pain during activity but it is something you can only try. If you are still having persistent pain you should discuss this with your doctor
Hi janet no they should not charge colour. This means you are likely taping it too tight. A trick is to pull more tape off the roll so you can lay it down with less tension. I hope that helps
I was lifting up a mirror felt a pop and quickly let go. I was in so much pain I was crying so much of how scared and painful it was. I put alcohol right away and put ice like and hour after. I haven't gone to the doctor and this happend 3 days ago. What should I do (I still feel pain a noticed a bruise line on my palm where I got hurt)
Sorry to hear kate swift I would recommend seeing a doctor. From what you have said you felt a pop under a constant load. This is something you would want to investigate further. Best of luck
Hello so I sprained my dumb during practice and I was wondering do I keep the tape on my thumb all day everywhere or only have it on for practice because I don’t want to look like an idiot or something walking around with tape on my hand lol

I’m eager to try a method that is not so awkward to do on myself. What kind of tape are you using? Obviously not kinesiology tape.
We use 25mm elastic adhesive bandage and 10mm ridged tape to reinforce

25mm elastic adhesive bandage and 10mm rigid tape
It worked thank you so much
That’s great news!
I’ve hurt the IP joint of my thumb and there is no information how how to tape the top
This technique can be extended all the way to the IP if needed
To help keep circulation and not have the tape too tight, you should cut the tape each time you have finished a rotation... I believe you are taping too much at once and thus cutting off circulation...
Only if you make it too tight
Good idea
Thanks bright ideas
Is this technique meant for the mpc joint?
Yes predominately it will support the MCP but it will also provide some support to the CMC joint as well

You would only use this tape while playing or training. Generally you can’t leave tape on your skin for too long as it can irritate it
If anyone is looking to have additional wrist support you can try this taping variation ruclips.net/video/2ni8VkKtdfA/видео.html
