  • A London bus driver running late and not wasting any time at all to get back home. The journey is roughly from Piccadilly Circus to the terminus in Oxford Street and back out without break. All in a rush.

    When bus gets slow, people complain. When bus gets fast, some people still complain.

      Victor X.P. No but when the bus goes the speed limit no one should complain because that’s the speed limit, He is in a heavy vehicle that if he hits someone he will kill em. The speed limit is a thing for a reason

    I can remember driving the buses so well in London, my route fave was the 205 from Paddington to Mile End. I was always told that most accidents happen going onto your break or on your last run home, therefore i never rushed those two journeys ever. Ihave to say that i got a real buzz out of driving in London, whether it be the traffic or just being busy, it was great fun and never once did i find it stressful on the road. I left just after they started issueing swab kits to drivers in case they got spat on, your only doing your job, if you walk into a supermarket and they don't serve you quick enough you don't spit on them do you, so why do that to a bus driver, we are human too

    • @richardgeorge8612
      @richardgeorge8612 7 лет назад +6

      They were bearable back then and you could also have a laugh with the other drivers but you can never underestimate what passengers could present to you in situation experiences but it's all about how you react to any given situation

    • @richardgeorge8612
      @richardgeorge8612 7 лет назад +8

      You'll be fine, don't worry and enjoy the experience, don't rush your checks and have a positive relaxed approach but never be complacent, always make notes of where you can use the toilets also that can be a lifesaver, eat healthily no burgers or bad food, please let me know how you progress

      @@richardgeorge8612thanks for the advice, I know this is a very late response to your comment but I got hired to a bus company and am starting my training pretty soon. Overall, I am excited about starting this job and look forward to it, my only issue is I’m a little nervous if I’m a good enough driver to cut it being a bus driver.. I’ve only been driving for a year or so if that and have never driven anything bigger than a car. People have told me this doesn’t really matter though, as most people start out the same way, and tell me I shouldn’t be nervous about this. If you see this, or anyone for that matter, any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks 👍

    Grand driving there mate. I really enjoyed the thrash on those 2002 Dennis Trident Alexander ALX400's and these ones having the 260bhp uprated Cummins ISC engines were the best buses that London had at the time. Nowadays everything is mainly Hybrid or Electric.

      And it is also proven to have substantially brought down the number of accidents from both outside and inside the buses since its implementation.
      I was a Green Road Champion/Manager years ago as well as driving buses for a decade and seen all the accident reporting statistics that back up this fact.
      You can still drive a bus effectively without driving like lunatic trying to keep to time.

    I love fast bus rides after school one car I front was going slow on the right lane and we needed to run right on the next intersection which was close so my bus driver went to the left lane and speed real fast and we just cut the other guy off and barely made the turn and she was a cool bus driver who dropped me off at my house and would skip all the stops to allow me to be the only rider. My mom called while I was in the bus and my driver asked who it was and I said my mom so my mom while on speaker phone said I better be home in 5 we were like 12 minutes away and we booked it and made it in 4 by cutting the route in half and going 80mph.

      We always have to record the time of departure, the time of arrival and where you have arrived. This is required by transport for London. I don't have a duty card, But any bus driver will be able to show you one. I no longer work for the buses.

    • @satoshiaaron
      @satoshiaaron 8 лет назад

      Life Reportage thanks for the quick reply. Do you only record times of Bus stops and not request stops or both. Also what made you want to quit bus driving.

    • @wink1eafc774
      @wink1eafc774 7 лет назад

      No you only record the times you depart from each end of the route, this is a duty card that every driver gets fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/704546_3627482980465_1384237951_o.jpg
      you also get a log card c2.staticflickr.com/6/5463/7230105708_b6e09fbf56_n.jpg So I would record the time I departed Tottenham town hall and arrive at Waterloo station then I would also log the trip numbers and on my return journey do the same..
      you would also log if needed a curtailment which means if a bus driver was turned around, like if you look at the duty card and I was turned at Bank, I would log the place and time and also be given a code by control to reason why I was turned around... I would also log breakdowns etc..

      It varies from company to company. In some companies you drive only one route and in others you have to learn them all and every day you’re on a different route. Having said this, it always helps to know more roots, just in case you feel like doing some overtime on your rest day.
