Severus Snape would not be such a noted character if Alan Rickman had not portrayed him in the movies. Everything Rickman did was powerful. I first saw him in a video of the Rasputin movie, did not know who he was and knew he was an actor with a brilliant future. Unfortunately the video was old, Alan had had many more roles, given life and depth to Snape and passed away. The Rasputin film may or may not appeal to Potter fans but it is an extraordinary performance well worth seeing. R.I.P. Alan Rickman

Thank you for giving a lot of mysterious information. Snape cast a sour shadow to conceal his lamp burning for Lily, that made him put himself in mortal vulnerability for nearly 17 years. Rickman played his role so well, that I thought Snape really came to the Muggles' world to take part in movies. RIP Alan Rickman.

some of the comments on the video itself... I don't know what those people read or watched but it wasn't the same HP's books or films I did. Saying that Snape was selfish.... calling him a coward.... saying that he never loved Lily.... saying that he was evil... After all these years, I still strongly believe that Snape is one of the most interesting characters ever written. He is my hero.

I completely agree. After books five and six, I really hated Snape with a passion. I had no sympathy for him, he was annoying, vindictive, and i was really tired of him. I also hated Dumbledore and lost all respect for him for essentially killing Sirius (he accepted the blame, after all) and being wrong to trust Snape who wound up killing him. I felt all the emotions that Harry did. Then, I saw Snape’s memories and I was overcome with guilt and grief. I was sobbing so much that I couldn’t even finish reading the chapter! I was so wrong to have judged him that way for so many years that the rest of the book didn’t even matter to me, lol, and it just boggles my mind that so many people choose to interpret Snape and his motives differently than the author and the filmmakers intended him. If they say that”s his arc, that’s his arc. Harry forgave Snape, and forgiveness is one of the most important things anyone can do for themselves or others. It saddens me that so many people don’t have the concept of forgiveness in their hearts and fail to understand how important it is.

@@japanimesekai3985 Beautiful comment and soo true. To me, Alan, is the real and only Snape. Forget the book Snape vs the movie Snape. JK wanted Alan to portray Snape before the movies even came out. She told him something no one else knew, not even her husband or the director. She had no problem with the way Alan presented Snape's character. The director had no problem when Alan said he couldn't do a scene a certain way because Snape wouldn't do it. Any other actor would have probably done it exact as written. Who knows, maybe the werewolf scene where he stands in front of the children was his idea. Alan saw in Snape what we who love him saw. Alan would know what it was like to love someone practically your whole life. Whatever the case may be, Snape was part book, and part movie, but he was ALL Alan!

Snape was an abused, bullied and lonely child who felt not fitting anywhere. He made a wrong choice (being a Death Eater) due to anger and desire to fit somewhere; he was flawed but was not evil. And he tried to athone ever since because the death of Lily killed him inside. Guess that James Potter and Sirius Black who bullied him were nice guys in your eyes instead just because they didn't became Death Eaters.

@@skadi6750 Snape never killed anyone other than when he had to kill Dumbledore. He was a spy for Voldemort, that was enough. Snape reminds me of alot of ppl..I think we can all relate too..we try to protect ourselves but will always care for others because without it life isn't worth living..I am alone, I am miserable.i am smart and I am good when it boils down to it..others have made me feel bland and even cruel but the love and unsaid loyalty I give to those who unintentionally hurt me makes me a quiet hero with a broken heart and not enough self loathing to need to discuss it.

+ishaan bhatia Oh wow thank you very much, really appreciated. Alan Rickman's departure makes me sad every single day. I was online just now because I've just uploaded another HP video but it's not an emotional one, I cut and collected some pieces from an University lecture about Snape, where the Professor explained why and how Snape could be considered a father figure in the HP series as well as James Potter and why they both could be associated, for different reasons, with the notion of 'paternal atonement'. I think some of the arguments are quite clever.
