I definitely think My Brilliant Friend is a certain flavor of novel that won't work for everyone haha. I just read it and absolutely loved it. Already almost a quarter of the way through the second novel. If you want to read more sci-fi/speculative fiction, I highly recommend Octavia Butler!
And I recommend these to you!! - I Who Have Never Known Men, Harpman - The Water Cure, Mackintosh - Rebecca, du Maurier - Paul, Lafarge - Swimming Home, Levy - Mona, Oloixarac - My Devotion, Kerninon - White on White, Savas I never comment but have been watching and loving your videos for a couple of years now. I don’t think (?) I’ve seen you talk about these but I think you’d enjoy!
Added Swimming Home and White on White to my TBR! I Who Have Never Known Men was recently added too. Based off these I think you’d really love The Last of Her Kind by Sigrid Nunez.
I loved this! I just did a video for this tag too…comes out Sunday. I also chose the Secret History as a book that deserves the hype. I recently discovered Josephine Hart. Crazy. Eve Babitz Slow Days all the way. 😊 Is Mother Dead was so good and heart wrenching.
omg the energy in this video is perfect. i also cannot film if iain is around, i either take the opportunity when he is out or i pop noise cancelling headphones on him and send him to another room haha. i am so with you on the hustvedt!!! everyone needs to get more excited about her! if you haven't read mothers, fathers, & others by her, do it! it is an incredible essay collection x
Glad you mentioned Melissa Broder at the end! I recommend her essay collection So Sad Today. So raw, unapologetic, and real. It was a balm for my tired soul ❤ And I think you might devour her writing the same way you do with The Pisces too.
I read The Stillest Day because of you and loved it so so much! Five stars, new favorite. I actually found an autographed copy of it, which was super exciting. My other two 5 stars this year have been Foster by Claire Keegan and The English Understand Wool by Helen DeWitt, so if you haven't read them yet, I definitely recommend.
My two faves of the year so far have been Boulder by Eva Baltasar and Just Kids by Patti Smith. Just ordered Outline by Cusk... Thanks for the recommendations!
I'm totally with you on Sally Rooney and the Neapolitan Quartet. Same for Siri Hustvedt. I would like to recommend 'The Shaking Woman or the History of my Nerves' by her. And I would also like to recommend 'I Was Supposed to Protect You from All This' by Nadja Spiegelmann and 'Before You Sleep' by Linn Ullmann.
I am in complete agreement with you on guilty reads, never feel guilty of whatever people read. I also soooo agree on My Brilliant Friend, kinda boring. I still need to try me some Cusk. I am worried I don't have enough big brain energy, hahaha.
Hello I just discovered you here on RUclips and you are a joy to watch. I love discovering new books and RUclipsrs like you. PS your bone structure is perfect! A new subscriber from The Philippines!
I read The Stillest Day based off your review of it - such a surprising book! I did have to order it off eBay and it has a terrible cover of a black and white photograph of the author, but it still sits proudly on my shelf because it's such a good book!
Love your videos! Here come my recommendations, all translated to English: Erich Maria Remarque Primo Levi Robert Seethaler Peter Bieri Olga Tokarczuk Dörte Hansen

You really should read real estate now that you just moved, I think it would really resonate with you at this very moment ❤️
I also cannot film in front of Rupert, I banish him to the office while I film or do it when he’s out 😂😂😂
Just finished the employees you will love. You convinced me on annihilation.
I love Ben with wine in hand 🍷
