  • Here's my review of a budget (around £35!) bluetooth motorcycle intercom (or motorbike headset) that I've been using myself for over 3 years now.
    In the video I tell you about its features, price, how it works, and compatibility between older and newer versions.
    This headset allows you to connect between different riders, rider and pillion, as well as connecting to your phone so you can listen to sat nav instructions, music, or even make/receive phone calls!
    This model is often listed as Freedconn or T-COM under a few different brand names and I've listed a couple of examples (no affiliation or endorsement, they were just the first I found!) of where to buy below:
    Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/FreedConn-Mo...
    Ebay: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/800M-Bluet...
    Also, come along and join the Rich Rides Facebook group, where you'll get sneak previews, news, and photos of upcoming videos coming to the channel / 2009081882728807

    Hello Richard! Great review! You mentioned you can pair it with your phone, can you use this intercom to take calls for example? Thanks!

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  4 года назад +1

      Thanks! And yes, I realised after I'd published the video that I didn't talk about that aspect!
      Yes it does work for making and taking calls on your phone too. You can call the last number you rang by just hitting the button, and answer in the same way which is good as it's simple. There is some wind and background noise of course and if I do use it occasionally to answer a call I always pull over to avoid being distracted.

    How do.
    Will these connect with other brands such as sena, BT etc or will they only connect to other Freedcomm sets?
    Interesting video, sound practical advice.

      Thanks George. I initially thought that (like most brands) they would only connect to others that are the same, but apparently they also connect to the Scala Packtalk headsets too.

    Hi, I noticed that you have a “BUDGET” Shoei helmet. Will the intercom thingy fit a more premium helmet, like for instance, a Shoei Neotec?

    Can you communicate with friends on a motorcycle that they use the expensive kit?

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  3 года назад

      It depends which system they are using. I've successfully connected mine to a friend who has a Cardo freedom and I know others have managed to connect to Sena units too.

    Thanks for the review of the device, just one question, how is the sound quality overall and at high speeds. Im Using something at the moment and at 50 speed you can barely hear the opposite person. Other than that it works fine with at low speeds everything works fine it's just at 50 or over you can just hear the bike and the wind nothing else.
    Thanks.

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  4 года назад

      I find it to be decent sound quality and loud enough as well as others being able to hear me fine too. I do think it depends on your helmet though. My wife's helmet has more wind noise which sometimes makes it difficult to hear her. Her helmet also didn't have specific spaces for the earphones so she struggles to hear me sometimes. I think the same would be true of any headset though.

      @@RichRides hmmm, thanks for the reply. I'm using a vcan helmet the odd shaped looking ones also have cutouts for the speakers in the helmet, with the visor down don't hear much wind but yeah guess will need to compare or go thru a few headsets and the one I'm using is my first one and didn't wanna spend a bomb on it. But thanks for the reply, I'll keep that in mind.

      @@anonymousw1985 I'd give these a try then as I think they'll be fine. I'm still very happy with mine after over 3 years. And amazing at the cost!

    If you're connected to another intercom can you also listen to nav instructions from your phone?

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  5 лет назад +1

      Yes you can. But what it does it switch off the intercom for the sat nav announcement, and then back to the intercom automatically. That works fine but if the person you are talking to is saying something at the time, you obviously miss it and they don't know.

    Will this communicate to cardo and sena as well?

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  4 года назад

      A friend has a Cardo 2 and yes we got them to connect though I found the volume to be a bit lower (may be adjustable). It is supposed to be compatible with newer Sena's too.

  • @TheWizardOfTheFens

    Is the helmet to helmet open comms, or do you have to push to talk? My wife is a new rider and the less she has to worry about from my perspective the better. Thanks.

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  3 года назад

      It's open comms so you're both connected all the time and can just chat. My wife and a few friends have the same unit so when riding in pairs we always just connect. I found it really useful when my wife was learning to ride too as I could point out potential hazards and give feedback about things like road positioning etc.

    Is it best to use the bluetooth intercom or to simply call other riders from your cellphone while using this device?? I ask because you don't have to worry about running out of range with a cell phone call as opposed to the intercom feature

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  Год назад +1

      Use the intercom as it's on all the time and you rarely get out of range of each other on a ride. Of course, if you do, then you can call each other anyway

    I am looking for a headset that allows you to talk to your friend whilst also listening to music from your phone. The music volume should be muted/dampened while transmitting and receiving. Does this thing provide this?

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  3 года назад +1

      Unfortunately, you can either listen to music via Bluetooth from your phone or be connected to a friend as an intercom. Not both at the same time though. I believe that the Sena headsets let you do what you want but they are much more expensive.

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  Год назад

      As long as it's within a couple of minutes then yes it automatically reconnects. If it has been disconnected for a few minutes it does a full disconnection but does tell you so with a long beep.

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  4 года назад +1

      It lasts a REALLY long time. I've done all day trips with friends and it's lasted all day. I think they quote around 10 hours talk time so it's plenty!

    Are there bluetooth intercoms that do not have built-in microphones but just pair two headsets like a Sony WH-1000XM4? Obviously this is not for on a motorcycle, but I'm looking for something I can use on a plane to talk to the person next to me.

    • @RichRides
      @RichRides  Год назад

      Not that I've seen but I like the idea. In the distant past I had a wired headphone set for use in a loud sports car that did similar but they still had obvious mics.

Got my monies worth finally upgraded to the sena worth it with the duplex and Bluetooth mile range etc but unless your using it a lot (Instructor) I’d stick to the cheapies

    • @RichRides

      It sounds faulty then which I have heard of before. I'd send it back for a replacement. It also depends if your helmet has cut outs for the speakers. My wife's helmet didn't so the padding made hers too quiet until we removed some to create decent space for the speakers.
