The rubber block, I use a hockey puck at a fraction of the cost and a perfect size. But then again I’m from Canada 🇨🇦
Exactly my thoughts! But then again, I'm from Sweden...
Ditto... Massachusetts
Good call, but pucks are hard to come by in Portugal. Not much ice :)
GOOD DAY EH. WANT A JELLY DONUT AND A BEER EH ? AHHH JUST FUCKING AROUND .i'M FROM sOUTHEST NEW brunswick . The hockey puck is a great idea . maybe even a great idea. We have great groomed trails here in Albert County .I live just off the 114 , which takes you to Fundy Bay . People are very cool about the off road culture here. Where ARE YOU EH ?
AHHH i MESSED UP THAT GOOD ,GREAT THING .
Great video. Genuinely useful info, straight to the point, and no horrible music or annoying cutaways 👏
Thanks, Dan. Glad you enjoyed it :)
Bought sponge grips for my first motorcycle 30 years ago. Absolutely love and recommend them. I use a Ram mount for my phone and can recommend that also. It comes with a rubber strap as a secondary support to secure the phone. USE IT! A bumpy road can and will shake the phone free otherwise. I was 300 miles from home when I found myself with a broken phone.
Oh no, now you've made me paranoid about using that rubber strap thing, lol :)
Some good stuff here. I just ordered the rubber block a few minutes ago and will probably be grabbing the Grip Puppies soon, too. Definitely already wanted the soundbomb mini. Great video, thanks!
Really like this video. Really Groovy and informative. Thank you for sounding like a real human.
Thanks for your encouraging comment. Keep safe :)
Great tips. Thanks! I would also consider the Screaming Banshee as a horn upgrade. I have one installed on my BMW bike and it is superb! And loud!!
I'll have a look, I need a new horn for my new bike arriving next week. Thanks :)
Thank you for such a clear list with great reviews of everything! This information is invaluable to me as a new rider :)
My pleasure!
Rocket man outstanding video! My favorite was the horn improvement big time!
Thanks for that. Yes, those little Denali horns are great. Keep safe :)
@@RocketMan_Moto ....and you can buy them at any Auto accsesory store although if you are going to fit TWO fit a relay as well.
Wow, quite informative. I'm definitely getting the Jewellers dapping block
Thank you :) I now have a couple more of those blocks for my other bikes.
Good content, well presented, with an appropriate level of detail where needed, especially discussing things like the radio band used for the tracker, different sized options for the horn, and matching options on the manufacturer's web site for the RAM mount. Keep up the good work.
Thanks :)
I just found you, and I love your videos already! Saluti from a newbie italian biker!
Thanks for your kind words of encouragement, they make it all worthwhile 😊 Stay tuned for plenty more videos over the coming weeks, especially when my Triumph Rocket finally arrives, hopefully next month. Ride safe😊
Dapping block, brilliant! Thank you.
You're welcome, Eric :)
Have you tried the throttle rocker? It's a small plastic spade that binds to the throttle with velcro. Instead of having to grip the throttle with your whole hand, you can nudge it down and hold it with the end of your palm. It is very relaxing for the right hand not to have to grip the throttle. I find these so useful that I even have one on a bike with cruise control.
I have seen these, but haven't tried one yet. They're very cheap, so I should really. I'll put it on my list. Thanks :)
My goodness yes a side stand block that what i really need.
I once park my bike in loose soil an thought "this is good enough", then 3 hour later after a small rain i see my bike laying on the ground and it broke my heart.
Thanks bro i needed this
You’re welcome. Thanks for your feedback👍
Subscribed after seeing your second video. Beautiful videos you make. Well done. 👍
Thanks, Stefan :)
Totally agree with the grip puppies, had mine on my bandit for the past five years, i ride all year round in the wonderful UK weather, they are only now getting ready to be replaced, as for fitting them over the oem grips, i use a tiny drop of washing liquid (little fingernail size at most) just to lubricate them one one edge and slide on, It's small enough to do the job and not slide around the grips after fitting :)
Good tip. Someone suggested a squirt of WD40; I tried it and it really works :)
My Grip Puppies are the best. Used soap and water to install and been riding an hour or more in rain with no issues, and they were long soaked through. Also I hear hair spray works well too.
About 22,000 miles with them, so about a year commuting here in Florida. Best $20 I ever spent on my bike. Dulls vibrations also.
2017 BMW f700GS
I agree Grip Puppies are great, I put them on all my bikes and in fact just ordered another pair this weekend for my new bike, arriving in a couple of weeks :)
I've had grip puppies on my last 4 motorcycles as well.
They resist the element of heat. It hovers around 50° Celsius for a few weeks in summer here in Abu Dhabi.
Yes, my bike isn't in direct sun but other rubber items not in the summer disintegrate.
Plus they're very comfortable for my larger-than-average paws.
Agree completely :)
Xmas is coming soon. Thx for the great tips!
Ilove the horn...probably in my purchase list for my latest bike.
It's great - surprises many people :)
I have never seen the wheel nut locks before. Some good tips thanks.
Thanks for stopping by😊
Great Tips Rman! Thank you. BTW - That voice is built for radio......
Jet Cooper haha, thanks! Too much time spent listening to BBC Radio 4😂
If he has said, "you have a face for radio" it could be considered an insult. Luckily it was your voice hehe
..shipping forecast
@@bikehubjapan Where have I heard that before?
How do i take a screen shot a my galazy s7
That was a video with useful content, thank you!
Thanks, Tom. Glad you enjoyed it :)
I use Grip puppies on my bike. I've found best way to put them on is to use hair spray. Slides on slick, dries sticky and wont budge.
Thanks for the tip :)
@@RocketMan_Moto I use another company much like Grip Puppies called Grab On Grip Covers available on Amazon. To me, they’re a little stronger and the right length so they don’t have to be trimmed narrower which weakens the ends.
Good tips! Regarding the sidestand, I mounted an icehockey puck underneath my R1100GS's jiffy, so the 2 cm higher and quite a bit broader base to the jiffy was always on. Worked a charm, costs next to nothing and lasts years
And.... now i see I was not the first to suggest a puck either hahaha
Well, goes to show how great this idea is :-)
Several people have suggested a hockey puck. Good idea, but they're not easy to find here in Portugal :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Haha I saw that I was not the first to suggest it, after my original post lol.
I bought mine online, and had it delivered via a Dutch sports shop.
I see Ebay has them, surely one of the sellers will ship (I buy from the UK regularly)
Ride safe!
Use the Ram Mt for some time now. The only stable phone holder I’ve found. The rest are great ideas as well. Ride safe my friend....
Yes, no problems with the Ram Mount
Hi. Thank you for the tips.
Thanks for your words of encouragement :)
Nice tips! Thanks
Thanks :)
After his calming voice i can go to bed now.
Haha, night night😊
Superb. Well done with not lowering your personal standards. Bugger Triumph, what about RE, yes a bit rough & ready but super bikes. Must be an age thing wanting all the Bells & Whistles. Cheap reliable Tpt does it for me. Tricity i bought, on walking stik & cant throw a leg over a bike. Step on, drag other foot on,beep beep i have my freedom from Buses again. Beats a Tin Coffin anyday!!
May i suggest you to try QUADLOCK mount.
It’s the best i have used so far. Multiple utilisations and versatile.
Cheers from Portugal.
I've heard that the rigid mount used by Quadlock can cause problems with the iPhone's sensitive image stabilisation electronics. The RAM mount X-grip has just a slight amount of give in it. Ride safe :)
Very true, I had forgotten that👍
those noco battery jumpers are a god send. i bought one after my van died on a job and i charged it last october, its now june and its held a full charge this whole time i just let someone use it the other day and its still got a full charge on it.
Agreed. They're like good insurance: you only really appreciate them when you actually need them :)
As an alternative for your nr. 7 'jewelers dapping block' you might try an ice-hockey puck made of rubber at 25mm high, 75mm diameter for about two euros/pounds.
Good call! Hadn’t thought of that. Ride safe:)
I've got a paving brick ...not pretty but it works
Ice hockey puck also works well as a stand pad, very cheap and easy to find.
True, although not so easy to find in Portugal :)
1. Mini sound bomb 👌.
Yep, big difference :)
Tenner for a lorry horn from most car shops. Guaranteed to fill the pants of any BMW driver with his window open who just pulled out on me at a mini roundabout.
Aren’t they a bit large to conceal on a bike?
Sweet. I have most of these or variations of these except the Jewelers Block. Cheers. 😬
Thanks, Charles :)
The RAM grip is DEFINITELY worth it, I forgot to use the little rubber band thingy to help hold my phone down one time, and proceeded to hit 154 mph. Only after I stopped did I realize my phone was only held on by the X itself, and it still held hanging out in the wind at 150+. 11/10 would recommend
Great story. I must admit I’ve yet to use the rubber band thing; the four feet seem to hold the phone so securely on their own😊
Thanks for the tips. Your voice is like James May.
Haha, you’re not the first to say that😊
I got the horn covered in the US from Harbor Freight. They sell a dual 110 db horn set with relay for only 10 dollars. I replaced my thin sounding Smart Car's horn with it and was surprised how loud and good sounding the dual horns were. I plan to use the horn set on a Kawasaki Ninja 250R I'm buying.
Great idea, I just fitted a Denali SoundBomb to my new bike - a little over the top, but still fun :)
Has anybody ever told you, you sound just like James May :)
You’re not the first person here to draw that comparison 😊
As for the rubber block, my dad used to use a round magnet tray from harbor freight, we still have it somewhere
Good tip :)
Just to add, I used a hockey puck for my steep leaning heavyweight Victory X.C. For about $2. vs $18 for an extremely wimpy one from the manufacturer, Polaris.
Good idea, but you don’t get many ice hockey pucks in Portugal 😊
I just use a scrap of wood lol
Hello RocketMan you are doing a very good job with the videos. I wanted to ask you. Αt the point where you put the RAM mounts you have no problem getting wet your phone from the rain?
I probably would have a problem, you’re right, but it doesn’t rain very often in Portugal and I only ever take my bike out when it’s warm and sunny👍😊
Check out the Monimoto GPS tracker. Great piece of kit.
I've heard lots of good things about it, yes :)
instead of the jewelers block since I am Canadian I use a hockey puck out of my nasty hockey bag lolol $1.25 CND
Yes, many have suggested that, but they're not easy to find in Portugal :)
Good morning 'the voice of the BBC', as I work my way back through your videos, I now see that (continuing my previous 'Postgate' accusation) even your video style has classic BBC TV cut scenes (floating videos of still images).
Thanks for the tips, Amazon basket now full to the brim .....
Stay safe and thank you.
PS you need to update your intro to emulate the style of your favourite BBC childhood programme. Perhaps Ivor style with cutout images of your bikes (or the Rocket) travelling across the screen amidst a classic Portuguese backdrop, or even Bagpus style....
Haha, love it! The possibilities are endless: The Clangers ride the Rocket, Windy Miller mullers the new Hayabusa...
The end closure of most scotch bottle packaging is a perfect kick stand pad.
Ah, nice tip! Thanks :)
Don't need any of them but I liked your voice. lol. Have a great day!
Well, that’s something, I suppose😊
The rubber block I feel the bike is at home on the kickstand and in the state I wish was in more (leaning)but here in Illinois the roads don't curve much. But for when I need a wider base for the sidestand I use about a 6in diameter piece of purge from an injection molding machine that I got from work. (Shhhhh)
Sounds good :)
I've never suffered from handlebar vibration.
The Sound Bomb: great idea.
I can't be bothered with trackers.
Phone cradles. I use a pocket.
Locking wheel nut caps: great idea.
Battery booster: I've been meaning to get one for a couple of years.
Kickstand blocks: I have a couple of them.
Great channel.
Tip, if you can't find the jewlers block, I use an ice hockey puc.
Made from recycled tyres, they're eco friendly.
Thanks. A few people have suggested the puck, although they're a bit difficult to source in Portugal, lol :)
Some good tips
Thank you, Lyn :)
I came into this like, "Pfft, I know I got all these.. Only one. The battery booster.
I will now buy the Grip Puppies. I was on the fence. You should get a kick back.
The tracker Idea is a must do. Thank you.
Hockey Puck. :)
Thanks, glad you found some of the ideas useful. I made this video almost 2 years ago now, maybe I should to a sequel? :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Certainly! I purchased the Grips today for my BMW.
Once you’ve used those grips, you can’t ride without them. I’ve put them on dozens of bikes, lol😊
Another good mod are ' blind spot mirrors- only a couple of quid and fitted in seconds to the corners of existing mirrors.
Good call, Gary. Ride safe :)
Super recommendations....re the ram mount....what is a good sat nav app for the iphone ? Especially for Thailand...as I’m biking here now
Thanks, Kevin. I can't say I've tried many apps, tbh. I just use Google maps... :)
Great vid how much is the genius boost?
Can't recall off hand, but I think it was about €120.
I used a hockey puck for my stand.
Yes, a number of viewers have suggested that. Good idea... except ice hockey pucks are not all that common here in Portugal, lol :)
Nice Ab of the Denali horn ...;)
Great horn, well worth the price, and usually plug & play. Not on my new BMW F900XR, unfortunately, as I discovered yesterday :(
RocketMan perhaps get a Stebel horn for the BMW - way louder: bit.ly/2vSmQDI
Great voice and narration
Thanks :)
Great video, hava already most of the gadgets, GPS no because there is no service in México, but i would love to know where to get the locking wheel nut caps, could you share where to buy them, please, cheers.
Thanks. Sorry, but I can't find those caps online any more. I bought them years ago, but can't remember where :)
@@RocketMan_Moto No worries, ride safe.
Hi RocketMan, a great review and I agree; with Jet; great voice! Very interesting review and somewhat interesting to find that the rip-off merchants will charge up to £30 more on EBay for the Invoxia Bike Tracker! I thought that I was quite security savvy, but your comment about disc-locking the front wheel instead of the rear, makes so much sense, although I tend to see it more easily (that's my excuse!)That said; the Locking Wheel Nut Caps... where do I find them, please? I've looked everywhere (even Google!) and apart from brand-specific wheel nuts, or caps to protect the car locking wheel nuts, I've found nothing... By the way; I also have a Honda CB500X 2019 (if that helps at all).
Thanks for your kind words :) It is more awkward to fit a lock on to the front wheel, but it makes more sense on the rear. You're right about the wheel caps, I just Googled them and I can't find them. It's a bit like the dapping block, I suspect: you need the right keywords. I will continue to look and post a link in the description when I find them. The set I had lying around in my garage was actually pretty old, so I hope they still make them.
Monimoto disarms when you get on your own bike. Worth checking out. About the same price.
I'll have a look - thanks :)
Grip puppies are super easy to install with compressed air.
Good tip :)
Dude.not sure if I have ever seen one of your videos before ,but well done . How about that Rocket though . Dying to have a P.O.V. EXPERIENCE WITH THAT BIG BIKE . i CAN'T BUY ONE ...SO....YOU'RE IT .LOL SERIOUSLY THOUGH WHAT A GOOD IDEA TO DO FOR ANY BIKE . IN THE SALES SHOP i MEAN.
Thanks, Jason. I sure would like to try the Rocket one day, just to feel all that torque. Not sure I'd really want to own one, though. Maybe as a second or third bike..?
Could I recommend the MoniMoto (MM6 model is the latest) as a slightly better alternative to the Inoxia tracker.
I considered the MM, but the subscription is a lot more expensive than the Invoxia.
Dapping block for 4 quid or a piece of thick plywood of the same dimensions for nothing from the local joiners. The spongy grips are a good tip though, I'll see about two of them.
I’ve used wood in the past, too👍
I haven’t upgraded my horn because I thought I’d have to wire a relay. You’ve had no problem with just plug and play on the Denali?
Never had a problem on any bike I’ve put one on. It doesn’t draw that much current and you only use it for a second.
RocketMan. Thanks. I thought that about only using it for a second too! Great video!
I think, that a ice hockey puk (if it's called like that in English, that rubber thing that they push around) could work as well instead of the rubber block and would be easier to achieve :) Cheers mate!
Yes, several people have suggested a hockey puck :)
On another note:
Angled wheelvalves, best €15 one can spend on their bikes, no more dicking around at the gasstation
I agree, very useful.
I use a block of hard wood for the stand. It stops the bike sinking into the soft petrol soaked tarmac.
I have used wooden blocks in the past, too. Good tip👍
Hi, have you considered an ice hockey puck for the same role as your jeweller's dapping block?
This has been suggested to me yes. They're a bit taller/thicker than the block I found though, and not that easy to find in southern Portugal :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Is ice hockey not big in Portugal, then? 🤣I'm in France and found some on Amazon (palet pour vous).
I'm having trouble finding the dapping block!
Enjoy your videos and sense of humour!
What would we do without Amazon?😬
Hi mate, what's the name if the saddle bags u have. I have the same bike & I am researching thanks.
SW Motech Blaze, but they're no longer available. They do a Pro Blaze model, more rigid and - of course - more expensive ;)
how about a hockey puck instead of the dapping block?
Could do, but they're a bit difficult to find here in Portugal. No ice, you see :)
Bikes not sentient beings...hm...not sure about that. Anyways, no grip puppies for me. I had a pair of heated grips installed on my old bike. As I have rather small hands, and now enjoy the skinny grips on my new bike. I really don't think I want thicker grips again, as these really annoyed and caused pain. I am well used to vibrations, coming from a Yamaha XT 600 E. Now I have a twin, really have get used to that - so smooth. The horn thingy is cool, but I might get into trouble here installing that.
You could have used a hockey puck for the side stand;-)
gwynn romano Yes, someone else pointed that out. Never thought of it👍😊
I hawe a ishockey puk bolted on my kickstand foot.
Radical solution, but I imagine it works👍😊
I use to work at AutoZone and that is what we use to jump customer cars who don’t want to buy a battery from there I also own the GB70 which is the bigger version of the GB40
Sounds good. They're a very useful accessory to own.
Hi! Do you live here in Portugal? I saw the portuguese licence plate on your bike. 😉
Yes, we were in Cascais when this video was made, but we live in the Algarve now :)
"Bikes aren't sentient beings". What my bikes don't love me ? Nooooooooo ! (only joking :) )
The rubber block looks like a good idea along with the locking nuts. You've convinced me on those.
Haha, thanks. I use the block every day (obviously) - a great accessory and very cheap. Ride safe :)
@@RocketMan_Moto I got a "tapping block" . It's brilliant. I also helps me get my 2 bikes in my somewhat "cosy" bike shed, due to width and length issues. Bike furthest into the shed is on the kick stand block, which makes it easier to get the second bike in. The front wheel of the second bike has to over lap the rear wheel of the first bike.
I’m jealous that you have a shed😬
@@RocketMan_Moto I thought you had a garage ? :) It is a really "cosy" shed, just enough space for a Speed Twin and Street Triple or probably 1 Rocket ! (about 3.4M x 1.4M internally )
I’ve been using the invoxia mini for the last few months. The reason I choose the Mini was hiding it on the bike ...Street Triple675 ....was far easier. It’s absolutely minute.!
It is small, I agree. How is battery life?
@@RocketMan_Moto I haven't conducted a definitive battery test, however it seems to run down very , very slowly. Charging is relatively quick with a mini USB, the same as the tracker featured on your video, which indecently I use in my car... the reason I use the 'Mini' is because of of its diminutive size. its also strongly made, perhaps because its main use was for fixing to Pets collars...
Sounds like the standard model I use then. My batteries last about 2-3 months. I’ll check out your mini version👍
@@RocketMan_Moto My Cat says 'forget it, you ain't sticking that thing around my neck'........Seriously though, although these products haven't got the same tracking capability many a more expense systems have they are perfectly adequate, unless you're absolutely paranoid about theft.
Show the Ram mount working.
Squeeze to open, put your phone in and let go
Go to a hardware store and get a free piece of scrap wood. I've been using one for over 25 years to keep my bike's kick stand from sinking into hot asphalt parking lots and falling over in the extreme summer heat.
Lol, I actually use a scrap of wood for my other bike. But you're perfectly correct. Thanks :)
Hi RocketMan, just discovered your channel and I love it! Are you portuguese?
Hi, Jose. Muito obrigado 😊 No, I’m English. I arrived in your beautiful country 18 months ago after 30 years living in France.
@@RocketMan_Moto I was about to ask that too. As i'm curious, what is your ocupation/job? Or are your retired? I live in Madeira island. I hope you enjoy our country and have a happy life here.
P.S. : You have a beautiful voice, and the sound is cleasr. Some day you'll make a video showing your recording equipament...lol.
Just subscribed to you channel.
@@TheMegamsp Thanks for your kind words :) I have had so many people ask about me that I will be posting a short video in the next couple of days revealing all. Stay tuned...
@@TheMegamsp Madeira Islands. Land of Ronaldo. 😁
A simple hockey puck would perform the same as your jeweller dapping block for 1/4 of the price. A canuck's perspective i guess....
Yes, this has already been pointed out. Only problem is, there aren't many ice hockey stores in the Algarve :)
I’d steer clear of the Ram mount - it’s a horrible solution and quad lock or sp connects solutions are much better. Also, you can use a rubber hockey puck as the kickstand pad. A tad cheaper than a sapling block. About $6
Good suggestions, thanks Stephen :)
Why not use a hockey puck as a support for a side stand? It's 25 mm thick, 75 mm in diameter and very easy to buy.
Good idea, but there aren't many ice hockey shops in the Algarve ;)
As for the rubber block… My BMW R1200R is so upright on the side stand, it really scares me. I nearly always put it on the center stand as I feel a warm breeze could tip it over…
Always a good idea, if you have a centre stand. I prefer to use it on my scooter, too :)
6:24 Or a Hockey Puck... 🏒
Someone else suggested a puck, too. Ride safe :)
Wouldn’t a hockey puck work as well as your jewelers thing for less cost and easier availability?
Probably in the US/Canada, but I think ice hockey players are more scarce than jewellers here in Europe :)
It’s the last one so easy to be stolen?
It's only suitable for use at your home: in a garage, or garden.
The battery booster has saved me so many times! Bike, car... They go dead, even with chargers on... :( Battery booster, and you're off to go, without any need to call for assistance.
Exacly. I keep my van and bike plugged in all the time when they're in the garage :)
@@RocketMan_Moto One thing I can't come around... Years ago, after the winter's recovery in my garage, my bikes used to start at the first pressure of the button. Now, I keep them under charge, and they alway go dead in the spring.... :| Battery quality going down the drain?... Unlucky me?... Astral alignment?... Anyway: be blessed the booster!
instead of the block, i always used a hockey puck.
Yes, I've heard that suggestion - good one :) Ride safe.
great idea
Hair spray to fit the grip buddies
Good call, I will try that next time I fit some :)
What bike mechanics use on mountain bike grips! Slides right on and then stays put when dry. Because of the relatively closed ends, we can use compressed air to take them off. That might not work on those.
Or brake cleaner.
Kickstand pad looks a lot like a hockey puck would do
Several people have suggested a puck, but they're not easy to come by in Portugal :)
OK, so I'm fitting two sound bombs. One is not enough. :-))
Haha, yes they're great fun! :)
Grip puppies were useless. They made the grip faaar to thick, especially if you have small hands, and when they got wet the clutch side would slip. I bought them for my s1000r to try and avoid removing the stock heated grips.
Can’t say I’ve experienced this, but then again it rarely rains down here😊
In the USA that GPS tracker would get used to spy on people by always knowing where they are, which is contrary to our privacy laws. That is probably why you can't find information about it in English. I know that is why an AirTag will always tell a person if one is "moving with them", and therefore sucks at catching thieves.
Thanks for your input 👍😊
I use a scrap block of wood as my kickstand pad
Me too. Only my posher bikes get the rubber 'cushion' :)
