I have confidence in RDJ killing it as Dr. Doom especially after interviews where he's talked about doing Dr. Doom right and RDJ as an actor I think it's a given he's gonna knock it out the park. I am definitely in the camp that Jonathan Majors was done dirty with his whole situation and he and us as an audience were indeed robbed of something great for not only Kang but the performance that we would've gotten with him as the main antagonist for the Multiverse Saga. But as someone whose been kind of fatigued from Marvel because of some of the recent movies and etc. I have faith they'll come back harder than ever.
For as much as they set up for Kang, I think they also read the writing on the wall that they didn’t do the best job of establishing him as THE villain to watch out for, moving forward. Quantumania did little to establish him as a true threat. My guess is, in Doomsday, he’ll basically serve as the molecule man figure, and just get wiped. Or maybe that was the plan all along? Lol either way, I feel that despite some calls to recast (which they still might do), he wasn’t someone worth investing any more time in. Off-screen struggles aside, he really didn’t get the best “villain establishment”. It could be argued that Loki’s season 2 finale could function as a potential end, since they mention that they’re in the process of pruning Kang variants across the multiverse lol
That's actually a very good point, I agree, even if what happened to Jonathan Majors didn't happen Kang was still a poorly established character The stuff about him in Loki seemed interesting, until they decided to make him a villain in an Antman film of all things, I mean hey don't get me wrong I like Antman, but to have Kang as the villain im an ANTMAN movie? Really Marvel?? lol
You make a really good point that I should've mentioned, Kang was more untapped potential that they never got to, but they hadn't done the right work to get Kang Dynasty in gear AND Loki S2 did a really good job finishing that up for now at least

As is, the movie does end with this sense of the unknown; Scott has this uneasy feeling that Kang or one of his variants can pop up again. To me, that's the only thing that saves the idea of Kang being a villain worth keeping an eye out for. Doctor Doom is my favourite Marvel villain and such a complex character with a fantastic rivalry with Reed Richards (pun intended). Though I LOVE RDJ, and hes a phenomenal actor I do worry if this casting will affect how they adapt Doom since his rivalry with Reed and Latverian/Romani heritage is a quintessential part of his character. Regardless, Im willing to give this a chance and Im excited to see Doctor Doom return to the big screen again. They could explore a good story about Tony being his worst enemy and the biggest threat to the multiverse; since the MCU started with RDJ, it feels rather poetic that it would end with him. I do think they can touch on good themes surrounding the power of our choices, as Doom could reflect the juxtaposition of Tony's entire character arc in the MCU since Tony learned humility and what it means to make sacrifices for others because of his experience in Afghanistan and friendship with the Avengers, Doom on the other started out with nothing as a Romani peasant and lost his whole family and had to learn to fend for himself mastering both science and magic and liberating the people of his country and becoming the ruler of Latveria for the better, thus creating this god-complex in Doom and establishing an underlying sense of resentment for others if they disagree with his perspective as shown with his immense pettiness against Reed Richards fueling their iconic rivalry, so there is room for them to explore the parallels between the two. I just feel very mixed about the casting since it feels like they're just hyping up these movies by bringing back RDJ. But like I said, I'm always happy to be proven wrong since RDJ will surely do a great job. Thank you for being one of the few RUclipsrs that’s critical of this choice for the RIGHT reasons. The romani representation is the most problematic part of this whole thing. Everything else can be fixed with a good story, that can’t. That said, I’m cautiously optimistic with this casting, because it’s still an interesting choice to make considering it makes things more complicated than casting someone new.

Bcoz we have to remember that Tony Stark and Victor Von Doom are 2 different characters. So it really doesnt make sense fr them to be variant of each other. Now I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I think Marvel Studios' Victor Von Doom is a new reimagined character whose origins are a hybrid of Doom's classic comic origins plus Tony's origins. So essentially MCU's Doom is a loose, distant variant of 616 Stark. Just like we had Victor Timely as a variant of Kang. This is the original character but has some connection to Tony which explains the same face.

It was a missed opportunity to not make Avengers 5 about the new Avengers forming to stop different versions of Kang while the original Avengers from other universe appear in order to help only for (throughout the movie) we learn that the original Avengers are evil variants of the same characters as superior iron man kills the leader of the Kangs and steals his plan to make battleworld.

On the surface I think that’s the obvious assumption, but I think that story only works with Doom already existing in the universe, so I think they’re gonna have to make a lot of changes. I wouldn’t mind if it were Doom inhabiting his body tho
I'm very sad that the promising Fantastic Four reboot got overshadowed by the horrendous decision of making RDJ Victor Von Doom. First they are undoing the impact of Endgame, multiverse or not that movie is not special anymore if they brought in a evil Iron Man. Second the evil Iron Man is Dr. Doom? Doom is his own character why make him an Iron Man Variant? If they're are so desperate for bringing back Iron Man as a villain, why not make Superior Iron Man instead of tarnishing both characters? All of this ruins the MCU for me, that's seriously the last straw since I was already burnt out from the franchise recently. I'm still gonna see DP3, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man 4, and the X-Men reboot but beyond that I'm officially checked out. First Zeb Wells made Spider-Man Green Goblin and now Iron Man? What's next? Thor becomes Magneto?
