I have heard people say you should buy the most breathable possible fabric which would be the Extremelite. This is because most moisture comes from you as you are sleeping and it needs to get pass through the shell. Extremelite would be better for that compared to the even more water resistant Gore Windstopper. Gore is better for stopping water coming in but worse for stopping your water vapour passing out. Do you agree with this philosophy or are there times when Gore Winstopper has worked better in the field for you?

I prefer the Gore Windstop for expeditions and tough mountains.

I just picked up the Puma in an old -10 version with a fabric that was called “Super MF”. Do you have any information on this one?

I’m also thinking that the fabric is tougher

Mine is much older, so that's possible.

Which one lets fewer feathers through?

Both fabrics allow down to poke through but it's never been a big deal. I just snag and pull them back: ruclips.net/video/JzplpdlWsmU/видео.html

I just bought a puma mf. There was no choice since i bought on ebay. My purchase was a bag that had been returned to the store with tags still on. In other words it was a new bag. I got bag for 1/2 the store price. I wish it was the GWS bag, but then the price would be way above.
How do I replicate the GWS using some kind of cover?

If you can find a goretex bag the length of your sleeping bag, it might work, but it'll likely trap a lot of moisture inside the bag.

Any knowledge of differences with the Extremelite fabric in older vs. newer models? My friend has an older Versalite with the black bottom like yours and it weighs 3 ounces more than the current Versalite model. My assumption is that making the bag entirely out of the top color fabric dropped a couple ounces.

Perhaps the newer fabrics are tougher while still having a lower g/cm rating. That's a good one to find out.

@@ALinsdau did they maybe changed the zipper size? the one in the video looks like a #5 Kipper while some new models of the extremelite series have a #3 zipper.

Hii Aaron, do you think its safe to say that current WM bags perform better since they switched to newer fabrics ?

I would be confident with the new WM materials - I have yet to be disappointed.

    hi aaron!
that's the video i was looking for, many thanks!!!
cause i've already bought an ultralite but still not used the bag and after i've seen the apache mf from the same seller, i was getting a little unsure if the microlite bag wouldn't be the better choice, regarding the water resistent. but the difference for me looks like it's not worth to exchange the ultralite.
have you any serious differences in terms of condensation noticed?
isn't it basically better, the more breathable the materials are?
the sleeping bag should mostly be used without a tent, depending on the weather also without a tarp but also in a hammock.
if not with too much humidity and/or fog, i would still have a breathable bivouac sack.
what is the opinion of the professional?
thx alot and kind regards from germany

The fabrics are very similar to me. The MF might be a little bit tougher but that's a tough to detect distinction. If you're in bad weather, go with the MF or more ideally the GWS.
A GWS will shed water better. The MF will get wet pretty quickly.
