    I also had the X/Y axis able chain rubbing on the back panel. And I didn't find the printed alignment parts until I was setting the BL Touch so I ended up using calipers instead. Good video, wish I would have done better on my time lapse.

      Yeah, it's easy for that bracket to push out toward the back of the machine. Fortunately, it's an easy fix to loosen it, rotate it, and tighten the screws again. But that assumes you know to look for it! Thanks for watching!

    thanks for the video, wonder how long does it takes in reality to complete the assembly? I am assuming 2 or 3 days for 1 person.😁

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching! In reality, for someone who hasn't built a lot (or any) Modix machines before, putting one together properly, including the necessary calibration steps takes roughly 2 weeks of assembly. That assumes that 8 hours are being spent on the assembly each of those days. This is not a trivial assembly process and there are lots of things that could easily be done wrong. If it isn't done properly the machine will not operate as intended. Also, this video is showing a V3 machine but Modix is currently shipping Gen 4 machines, so your experience will be quite different. I would also add that these machines should not be run by anyone without a lot of 3D printing experience, as they can be rather difficult to operate and require a lot of ongoing TLC. There are some other machines out there which are fully assembled and calibrated from the factory (such as the HSP1-I from HartSmart Products), but those cost quite a bit more than the DIY kits from Modix. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

    • @life_of_vin
      @life_of_vin 11 месяцев назад

      Thanks@@ecostruder, that must be a long lead-time for building this printer all alone, but if we can increase the team size, and separate the steps by cluster, I think it would be faster, right? 😁

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@life_of_vin Having 2 people instead of only one will help, yes. But after that there are diminishing returns on adding more people. Most of what needs to happen with the assembly is on the machine itself. There aren't a lot of subassemblies that a separate person could knock out. In any case, I would strongly advise against rushing through it if you want a properly operating machine.

  • @davisw999

    I watched this because I thought you'd be showing how to assemble it in only 30 actual minutes, which obviously wasn't the case. What was the total elapsed time?

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  3 года назад +1

      Sorry for the confusion, Bill. No, it's certainly not possible to assemble a Big-60 in only 30 minutes. I clocked the build at around 25 hours of actual hands-on assembly. With more than one person working on it you could cut that down by having some sub-assemblies completed in parallel, but it will still take quite a while to complete properly. I strongly advise taking your time and not rushing through the assembly process since the performance of the machine very much hinges on proper assembly and calibration!

    • @ecostruder

      Hm, that's strange. Are you sure that the connectors are plugged into the back of the screen and the Duet in the right position and orientation? It's fairly easy to plug them in backward, and that would certainly cause it not to work! If you continue to have issues you can always reach out to Modix support as well (Support@Modix3D.com).

    Very nice and useful video. I am planning to buy one too, but I was wondering how it prints with ABS and high temp materials like cf nylon and polycarbonate.
    do you have any experience with that?

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes, I have printed with all of those materials on my Modix machines and it performs quite well with each, although special bed adhesives are required for Nylons and Polycarbonates since they won't stick to the provided PEI sheets without some help. But ACP enclosures are great at holding the heat in so these tricky materials don't warp. I'd be happy to share more thoughts on my experience if you'd like to reach out via email to ECOstruder@HartSmartProducts.com.

    So this is a quad Z, dual X, single Y stepper motors. There was a comment about building this for a customer, do you sell these as assembled? If it's not assembled, do you include the alignment guides mentioned?

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  3 года назад

      As far as the number of stepper motors used per axis, yes that is correct. We do indeed offer assembly services for Modix machines. In fact, we're currently assembling 2 Big-180X and one Big-Meter printers for a customer! As for the alignment guides, the 3D printed jigs are included with your machine, and the instructions for how to perform all of the calibrations is included in the build instructions on the Modix Customers Zone website. If you'd like more information about purchasing a fully assembled (or not) Modix printer, please reach out to ECOstruder@HartSmartProducts.com and we'll get you a quote!

    So does this printer not have any independent bed level control? I'm designing a printer myself and am trying to decide if I need leveling knobs like you see on small format printers. Or if I can use adjustable home positions of my 3 Z axes.

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  3 года назад

      The Big-60 v3 controls all 4 ball screws from one stepper. It's relatively easy to manually turn them to get the bed level. Then, as long as the high and low spots on the bed are less than 1mm difference the machine will compensate for it with the bed mesh.

    How Long is the Building time of this Printer and how is the price? I am from Germany? What Kind of Filament will be used? 1.75mm or 2.85mm? Thank you for answer.

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  3 года назад +1

      We clocked our assembly time at roughly 25 hours. These machines use 1.75mm filament for the best extrusion speed and material compatibility. I know some customers that have converted theirs to 2.85mm filament, but this is not how it comes from the manufacturer. Good luck with yours if you end up getting one!

    is there any change in V3 for the bed heating, can it be switched off automatically (via the control board)?

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  3 года назад +1

      Short answer is no. Modix is very careful about safety and so far they have decided not to allow the control board to switch on or off the AC-powered bed heaters. I know several users have created their own solutions for this, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Modix come up with something that meets their safety requirements in the future.

    can the enclosure temp be controlled?

    • @ecostruder
      @ecostruder  3 года назад +1

      Hi, the enclosures for these machines do a great job of insulating the build chamber, so it traps the heat inside, but it does not generate any heat in the chamber beyond what is created by the heated bed and hotend. We have found this to be sufficient for highly warp-prone materials like ABS, polycarbonate, nylon, etc.

      Thanks for watching! If customers order a Modix machine through us (hartsmartproducts.com/pages/modix-machines) then their support contact is HartSmart Products (we're based in Des Moines, IA). But our support from Modix has been excellent--they send out any replacement parts necessary and will help try to diagnose issues with the machines. They are in Tel Aviv, but do a good job of getting back to customers as quickly as possible (even though here in the USA we are on the other side of the world).

      I purchased one before Brandon/ECOstruder started reselling in the US and one of the ball screw nuts came apart on me. Modix replaced it immediately - even though it had been almost a year of use. They stand behind their product. TBH, I still love my Modix after almost 2 years, many prints lasting up to 2 weeks, etc.

    Absolute piece of everloving dogsht these modix printers are. any inherent problems the user has is blamed on assembly, i have already had to replace the board from burning out, and the extrusion setup with the griffin head doesnt have enough strength to pull all that filament thru all that tubing even with a 1kg spool of material. Constant problems with this huge DUD and I wouldnt recommend it to ANYONE.
