It is 4 times. This id why 1440p was such a crucial steppingstone in gaming, because that is more or less the double of 2K. So a more natural upgrade at the moment is 6K resolution. Not 8K. When 1440p was introduced, it was mainly artists and designer monitors and apple iMacs that used it. Likrwise, atm 5K and 6K monitors are only aimed at professonals. So we need an equivalent era of 6K gaming as we had of 1440p gaming

I play all my ps5 games on performance mode, that smooth 60 fps feels good with the built in upscaling on my 4k 50 in. Tbh the picture is so good I don't see the need for native 4k or 8k games have peaked in beauty for me.

In their defense, the PS4 Pro can play 4K movies, upscale some games to 4K and maybe even render a few less demanding games at native 4K. The PS5, in comparison, can also output 8K, render at a lower resolution and then upscale to 8K, as well as play 8K movies. My guess is that they just hold the 8K label for the PS5 Pro, as an extra marketing box to tick.
