  • I believe this is one of the most rare approaches into New York's Laguardia Airport.
    Coming in from the north with a circle to land on runway 13 offers some low level views of Randall's Island and reminds me of the Runway 29 approach into Newark EWR.

    Unique approach . Years ago they would approach 13 from the south on the Hudson River approach and bang a right on 125 st in Harlem and slam it down !

    That is so rare! I have only seen this approach (ILS 22 circle 13) on weekends when runway 22 is closed. Looks like this was filmed several years ago. I rarely see this approach used these days anymore. Instead they use the RNAV 13 when 13 is needed.

      Yes! Filmed several years ago that was sitting on my hard drive. I tried researching this route on youtube but could only find a few videos.

      @@HDNYCAviation yes. I’ve purposely flown into to LGA on weekends to try to make a video of this approach, but it never happened!

      Wow ! If Peter Masella endorses its rarity then the 'phenomenon' BETTER BE rare !!! Peter has been posting the MOST COMPREHENSIBLE, LUCID, ENGAGING videos with UNPARALLED SUPERB NARRATIONS on landings, takeoffs, and also ground-based aspects surrounding aviation !!! Thanks to Peter also for bringing out the facts, with his uncanny knack, by pin-pointing the locations and approach-codes !!!

      @@PeterMasella, It's common to witness it during snowstorms. Had a lot of it last year.

      @@DOMINICAAVIATION Are you referring to the ILS 22 circle 13 or the RNAV 13? The ILS 22 Circle 13 is visual so I don't think they would do that during snowstorms.

    Nice rare catch! I can tell this is an old video with the US airways aircraft in the back, but I can also see the old hangars coming down. I’d be so lucky to be on a 13 approach one day!

    Really enjoyed your video! I've been on a plane from OKC to Phenix back in 1984 and came back from Phenix to DFW. I got to go with my Grandma Davis and came back before she did. Flew Southwest to Phoenix and flew back on Braniff.

      Glad you enjoyed it! 1984 mustve been an early 737?

    Maybe all arrivals were meant to be on Runway 22, but to avoid a go around, they decided to perform a circle to land onto Runway 13.

    I think American Airlines now forbids circle-to-land approaches because of their complexity and risk.

    So is this basically the Runway 13 version of the Runway 31 Expressway Visual?

    • @SYDAirlineEnthusiast
      @SYDAirlineEnthusiast Год назад

      Not exactly. This approach was intended for Runway 22, but to avoid a go around, the pilots circled to land on Runway 13.
      When Runway 13 is to handle all arrivals, it is a straight-in approach that flies over Manhattan, though usually, air traffic control wants a minimum altitude over flights flying over Manhattan, and during the LGA departures, they have all flights Circle north of Manhattan first before proceeding on with their assigned route.
