My immediate response when you mentioned people getting ugly about how you got your puppy really pushed my buttons. You are definitely nicer than me because I would have been ugly back. No one else is responsible for the choices you make, so to me it is none of their business what or why you make those choices. As an older adult, I do not really understand the concept that others 'have the right' to know or expect personal questions to be answered. I love that both of you are such strong adults, well grounded in who and what you believe that you are able to let it run off you. I 100% agree that your children are with you for such a short period of time, so spending that time with them is so important. You guys are inspiring and really are setting great examples for others who need to see this that making family first is not wrong

I agree 100%. I have raised and trained (protection training as well) German Shepherds for over 45 years now. As much as I support rescue for dogs, cats, etc, I would not rescue a German Shepherd for many of the same reasons Jeremy and Melissa said. I also live on a very rural acreage, and I NEED to know I can leave my dogs home and know all the other animals and people will be safe. If you rescue say a 4-year-old German Shepherd who unknowingly was abused or aggressive, you are putting your family at unnecessary risk. German Shepherds, much like Rotties and Pitbulls can be extremely aggressive, especially if they have been mistreated by previous owners. I always get my GSDs as pups, so they can be raised in my family, with our own rules, training, and boundaries. For those that attacked this wonderful couple for wanting to get a pup, well, I`ll just say "screw them".

@@flyinthebug35 my first thought when they bought from a breeder was..why spend a couple thousand when so many dogs need homes. I immediately realized that was not the best choice for them and their situation. You clearly articulated why they should not get a rescue dog.

Agree as well. When my last golden retriever passed, I thought maybe we'd try to adopt an older golden from a rescue. It was extremely hard to even find them in shelters (in my area at the time you pretty much only found pitbulls and chihuahuas). I did however find a shelter that specialized in goldens. When I saw the the adoption fee for a 12 year old golden retriever was $800, and they need to do a lengthy interview and inspection of your home, I just gave up on the idea of adoption.

Speaking about the parenting, our former pastor use to dedicate newborns like most churchs. But, when he would, he would give them a gift of two vases. One that is empty and one that has 940 marbles. Each week they are alive, you transfer one marble to the empty vase. He reminds them that you have 940 weeks to imprint on them until they turn 18 years old.
It creates such a profound image.

I just want to say Public school teaches kids it is ok to be bullied and teaches bullies that they can get away with it. My granddaughter was homeschooled from 5th grade on. At 17 she got her first job at a large grocery store chain. During her first year she was promoted and received 3 raises. Then a bully her age started calling her some horrendous names and harassing her. She found out he was targeting a certain group of women and young girls like herself. Nobody had reported him so she did. He was written up but again bullies are taught they are going to get away with it so he continued. He was then fired. My granddaughter had just arrived for work and on his way out he threatened her life. Still knowing not to provoke him and how to handle it she backed away and did not confront him and then once again told her managers what had just happened. The threat he made was serious enough that they called the police. The police escorted all the closers from the store to their car that night and have remained a strong presence at the store. They also went to speak to him and his parents at his home. If my granddaughter had gone to public school she would have become used to being bullied and not done anything. Instead she knew how to handle the situation and her coworkers were grateful for her help in getting rid of him. My husband and I are both prior military and have constantly taught our children and grandchildren how to react in certain situations and to always stay vigilant. Public school teaches kids to sit and wait for someone to tell them what to do. Being homeschooled my granddaughter had learned how to take control of a situation.

When I get asked how my husband and I have been married as long as we have I say one word - forgiveness. No marriage is perfect, but if we can accept we're going to mess up and forgive one another and keep going then there's a good chance you're going to make your marriage work. I think people get jealous they haven’t got the same opportunity yet like you said they worked there butts off for it and managed to build a home and become debt free and stable the fact they adapted and used RUclips and there channels to continue being productive and profitable it’s all about putting everything into it and offering something people want to see if your not willing to put in the work and offer something of value to people you won’t get the same outcome there just jealous people with nothing to offer that people want to watch or get involved in 🫶

    • @AB-ol5uz
      @AB-ol5uz Месяц назад

@@lacuna_matata_9261 the reality is that they CREATED their opportunity. They lived on one income, drove cash/paid for vehicles, saved/did side hustles, etc. ALL with the end game in mind. They WORKED TOGETHER to build momentum as quickly as possible and it still took 10+ years to accomplish the ability to make a change. They also built their vacation time around traveling to Idaho to look for land - did it over 2 or 3 years before the door opened for this 20 acres - so persevering, patient, steadfast in their vision/goals, and being willing to sacrifice in the relatively short term to achieve the long term goal...and if you go back and see their earliest videos, Jeremy wasn't a huge fan of them because they didn't make any money off of it for a very long time. But because Melissa was consistent in generating content by the time they reached Idaho and had a stunning location with huge goals - her work efforts had built a good base in the algorithms to make the jump to larger audiences, sponsors, etc. and before they knew it, Jeremy's lost income as a police officer had been replaced with RUclips/sponsor/merch sales, etc.

@@user-kz8mq8co8i negative people are just that negative ... whether its from jealousy, envy, bitterness from seeing other people doing better than they are ... the bottom line is no matter how bad your childhood was it is not an excuse to be a bad adult .... you can change your life, it may be difficult but you can become a positive person.
Social media has sadly become a platform for bullying & many negative comments I have seen on various channels is a form of bullying that those people would probably not say face to face.

Dr. Wayne Dyer had a quote he used to present, "What you think of me is none of my business." It has to do with owning your own self value rather than making it dependent upon what others think of you. It may sound elitist, but it really isn't, it is more about appreciating your own uniqueness, and not degrading it by conforming to what others think about you and what you do. That being said, it is always appreciated when others express acceptance, love and gratitude because those are life supporting and engender a greater sense of community. These days with so many factions trying to create divisiveness, it is essential to be the best version of yourself you can be and build common unity (community) with those of like mind and spirit. Out of that long blurb, "be the best version of yourself" is the most important endeavor anyone can pursue. Thank you for what you do. It is thoughtful and appreciated by many.

Oh! You tugged on my heartstrings so strongly with your memories Melissa! I used to do the EXACT same thing with my kids in the morning (including the saggy tank top, the chocolate milk, and messy bun falling off one side of my head!) I miss those days, but I was reminded recently that they are never gone because your kids share the memories. When the boys were really little we had a “code” I’d squeeze their hands three times to say I love you and they’d squeeze back three times. We kind of stopped doing it once they got older and switched to the teen aged “love you mom” sort of things. My son was in the hospital recently to have his appendix removed and had complications. As he began to mend, he asked if I’d walk around the hospital ward with him to help him recover. I’d been in that bedside chair for two weeks at that point, and jumped at the chance ( and blessing!) to be able to finally walk a bit with him. As we began making our “rounds”, my 6’1” 20 year old boy grabbed my hand and held it tightly the entire time. Around and around the hospital floor, he greeted and acknowledged all the nurses and doctors as we passed. We’d gotten about half way down the hall when he squeezed my hand three times. The relief that he was going to be ok and the silent I Love You, that I didn’t realize he’d even remembered, brought me a kind of joy that only a parent can feel. Thank you for bringing that memory back to the forefront of my mind ❤️

I have noticed that your kids especially the youngest two are true free spirits watching them pulling each other in the wagon playing in the field just playing in the dirt running with animals highlights the joy of childhood . I look forward to the end comments it many times puts Melissa's heart on her sleeve and opens my eyes to the trials and tribulations. Thank you for sharing your life

Hi Melissa and Jeremy! I'm a fan of both of your channels and I'm really glad you had this Q&A today. I've had questions about your family and the lifestyle that you've chosen and you answered quite a few if those questions today. I'm a public school teacher, and I know that you have issues with public school and your huge advocates on homeschooling your kids. I'm not going to lie, sometimes I've thought that you're doing a disservice by keeping your kids at home. However, I think it's so wonderful how you educate your children and how you've taught them so many skills that they would never have learned in public schools. Teenagers nowadays are not taught many skills- whether it be at school OR at home- and they are not prepared for the world at all! Today you were questioning whether your kids were normal and I loved Jeremy's response that he wanted to raise exceptional kids, not normal ones. Let me reassure you that they are exceptional! God forbid anything should happen to the world, but if so, your kids would be survivors because of everything you've taught them. They are so self-sufficient and independent , yet so kind and giving children. You're raising valuable human beings and you really should give yourselves a pat on the back for doing such a great job!!!

I was a single Mom and the one vacation I took without my boys I didn’t have as much fun as I did when we went as a family. We also learned that we had more fun with just us instead of when I allowed them to bring a friend or when we didn’t things with a group, say Boy Scouts. I wanted to experience life with my boys/family. That’s why I had a family. So I agree with you guys 100%.

I don't know why I am amazed with the questions people ask. I think it is truly rude to ask you about money. That is personal. Kudos for you guys answering that -I just don't think you should have to. Personally, I think people are jealous and this is why they ask these types of questions. I watch your content because I enjoy it. I feel your values align with mine. I do not subscribe to tv because of I dont want to be forced to flick through channels with crap. I've watched your build videos since the beginning with an enormous amount of respect, interest and a fair bit of envy. I would love to have designed and built a home but being British (reserved) and with a very secure well paid job and stable family, it always seemed to be a risk too much. Right now, in my retirement, I have a wonderful life with my teacher wife, living in Istanbul. As we see it, our life is the one we chose. What I don't understand you know the statistics and the crime rate in South Africa now but you encourage people to come to the country. My husband has a brother and his adult daughter still living there plus friends and he will not set foot in that country. In just the last year we were living there. My husband was held gun point, the ATM machine was blown up twice 1 block from our home, a man was murdered 1 block from our home, our nephew was held up and shot in the stomach and leg, my sister inlaw had her car stolen, another sister inlaw had in car stolen, a niece was tied up and her home was robbed, a man walked into our home and took a cell phone while I was vacuuming in the other room, and a friend shot a killed a man that fired a gun on him. We moved to the USA the next year. There's a lot of sugarcoating going on. People won't tell you the truth about the crime because the government is hiding it.

Great podcast. Question: have you ever considered listing in your GSL videos where you got your supplies, vendors, etc.? As someone who is trying to build in North Idaho, even in Sandpoint it is had to find items like your GABBY build beam or your roofers. I saw your kids at the ren faire in Sandpoint and they looked like they were having a blast. I did not want to interject into their fun. they are beautiful kids. I agree with your assessment of bringing a rescue into a family with kids or livestock if you dont know their background. thanks for this video also letting me know your 'height" as I have had qualms with trying to build being 5'2" with my husband being 5'10". Love your wine time. 🙂

I agree, Jeremy. The online social media and youtube world is designed to show the best of people. It has the ability to create comparitise (sp?) in yourself. This is an unintended result when I got off Facebook. I find I am more healthy becuase of it. I also agree - most people would not comment in such a critical way if they were face to face with the person they were critical of. Great Conversation that we watched our parents have when we would visit other families seems to be waneing (sp?) away and it makes me so sad. We have a whole generation that only knows how to communicate through social media.
