I always thought that the mist Shinobi probably got the eye in a peaceful way, like having a friend or rescuing a Hyuga clan member or doing them a massive solid. I also thought he definitely kept it a secret even from his closest friends.

Ao's Byakugan was NOT permanently released. He activated when he needed it. You can clearly see him activate it in the Five Kage Summit episodes when Sasuke attacked them and when they decided to become allied. Ao activated it to watch Danzo and see what was happening outside the room.

Just one very slight amendment, Ao's Byakugan was not in permanent release state like Kakashi's Sharingan. He could activate it, but I do like that not only does the patch act as a hiding place, but with the Byakugan active the patch wouldn't effect his use of it.
to add to what you said in boruto i think or shippuden i swear it was reffrenced as spoils of war from the third shinobi war.

But to roughly guess where it would probably be sometime during his introduction or around the 5 Kage Summit, since we knew very well he had it after that time period.

Al was able to use his Byaukuan even while the eye patch was covering his eye! He used a couple of times and not once did he remove the eye patch! So he would activate the Byaukuan whenever he wanted to!
Pretty sure anyone with a byakugan can use it with an eye patch bc it’s sees through shit so that means nothing. He only had it to hide it. Sorta like kakashi. He don’t want to walk around showing off his abilities

He could’ve become a rogue ninja due to figuring out how to undo the curse seal the branch members had. But to do so, he ended up losing one eye.

Could Ao be the reason why the side branch has the cage bird seal and that's why they hate the main branch because they didn't do anything to Ao and just made it more possible for the side branch to be under their control?

I think Ao only took one Byakugan because he destroyed the other one in his fight with the bingo book Hyuga in attempt to weaken his visual prowess and gain an advantage. At least I think that's the most interesting way for that theory, but the other theory about the one eyed hyugas makes more overall sense to me.
I think it’s because it’s not his kekkei genkai. Just having one of them is probably draining him enough, two would wipe him out I assume
@@austinbevis4266 well Mukai was born with 1 Byakugan and his family broke off the Hyuga clan several generations ago and he somehow still activated the Byakugan even though he’s a Hyuga descendant
He stole it because Yagura was in a Genjutsu and with the Byakugan you can release the Genjustu. I think he use it to free Yagura from the Genjustu that Obito uses to controll him and then he told Mei that he failed to be a Mizukage and failed to protect the Village, so he gave the Mizukage title to Mei and goes somewhere to free the 3 tailed beast and then died of it. Thats why Deidara and Tobi find Isobu alone.

@@silentwolfkills3924 its just a theory, if Yagura got caught and killed by Akatsuki they havent search for Isobu. So my theory is that he freed Isobu somehow beacsue he could controll him. So maybe they are friends and regret what he did to the village when he was controlled by Obito, so he hide Isobu and died somewhere alone.
The bingo book isn't just made out of ninja the leaf deems dangerous, any village can place a bounty on a enemy ninja. The leaf probably didn't care much for this hyuuga, but an enemy nation probably did. Example, Minato had a huge bounty on him from Iwa, and other villages and he was still in the bingo book. The Hyuuga in the video was probably just another jonin level leaf ninja who fought and killed a bunch of enemy shinobi, the enemy villages then placed a bounty on him so that people would target him on a battle field because he worth a lot of money or to get revenge.

I know it’s a minor detail but that’s this dudes whole thing is Naruto and I’m also going solely off the anime so it may be different in the manga? I just finished this particular arc for the 4th time so I’m fairly certain it was during the 5 kage summit and it was the Samuri that was under DANZOs genjutsu as he was suppose to be the neutral party.

just a couple things to say, ao said his byakugan was a spoil of war, so it’s quite possible that a main branch member could’ve died in battle, and he took the eye, as well ao could control the eye’s activation

You could steal an eye up until the side branch gets their mark, I think they give all the side Branch family members get their curse mark whenever the next main branch heir turns 5 or is born or something. (Can’t quite remember the exact conditions) but you can steal an eye from a side branch member without it being sealed.

How do we know that Ao was the first non Hyuuga-user of the eye? The eye could have been taken for example during the time of Madara/Hashirama, and being passed down from one Mist-member to next. Such stealing of the eye could have even started the practice of putting curse-marks on side-branches to prevent further thefts.

When he was conversing with Danzou after exposing his treachery, he says something along the lines of how he can't call him out on taking Shisui's eye, because he did the same with a Hyuga after battling him.
The third theory makes no sense, if Ao killed that Hyuga, he shouldn't even be in the Bingo Book at all. He defeated the Hyuga during the Third Ninja War and this was confirmed, so there's no way he just gave it to him or some shit like that. Itachi didn't make it to the bingo book until several years after the Third Ninja War. If you zoom in close, the guy in bingo book just has small black pupils and surname doesn't say Hyuga on top whereas Itachi's says Uchiha.

I love it when animes/video games/ movies take something that originally was probably just to fill an image with more art to make it look full and then there’s sim crazy backstory for that.
Ok so I know children of the Hyuga and Uchiha families aren’t guaranteed to unlock their respected dojutsu, but hypothetically, what could happen if the Hyuga and Uchiha bloodlines mixed? Could someone eventually awaken one of each dojutsu? Even more interesting, could a “new” dojutsu be created? Or are there factors I’m missing that could prevent either of these two events from happening?
We will never know.
I think there was a data book that said the child would have one of each dojutsu but i cant be sure
I guess we'll find out when Boruto and Sarada have children.

I really wish we got more of an explanation when it came through eye swapping in Naruto. Madara ripped out Kakashi out and healed it into his head. In order for a Uchiha to awaken EMS they have to take a relatives eye and implant it into their head but what happens to their original eyes?? Is it saved somewhere else??? Old Sasuke lost his eye so could he potentially go back and place his old eye back into his head??

Iirc in Manga Ao referred to his byakugan as "war trophy", so he acquired it at war from one of the main branch Hyugas. As it was shown with Hinata main branch for whatever reason is allowed to simply leave the village to go on a missions (logically would make more sense to ban main family from leaving the village.)
Neji's story could've included a rebellious S-ranked criminal relative from the main branch who defects and goes rogue in protest of the Huyga ways. That would've taken care of all these inconsistencies and made Neji's point more poignant in the eyes of Hisashi.
- From what I've heard it was probably just not really thought out and quickly put in by Kishimoto to advance the plot as having a Byakugan user at the kage meeting was a great plot advancement.
Wasn't there a one-eyed Hyuga that is detailed in the Itachi Hiden novel, and is described to have been strong enough to defeat both Shisui and Itachi together? (sorry for the spoilers)

@@lukebbuff No, Kohinata Mukai aka the person the commenter was talking about died when fighting Shisui and Itachi (only because he got caught in Shisui's mangekyo genjutsu and had a cursemark on him that would make him kill himself if he ever got caught in a mind trap). The guy in the bingo book was apparently alive after Itachi killed the clan which would make the timeline of this guy and Mukai being the same person impossible.

Or the Hyuga guy could've used one of his eye as a bargaining chip like asylum into the mist village. We know it was during a war, so maybe the Hyuga person didn't want to fight in a war but had to. So when on the battlefield he offered it to Ao in exchange for a couchy life in the mist village.
Or on the battlefield the Hyuga was cornered and wanting to live offered one of his eye for safe passage. And because he offered his eye he had to go on the run from the Hyuga.

I think Ao having the byuakugon is also a well kept secret considering that none of the Kage at the summit before the 4th war including Donzo, who had agents everywhere, had no idea that Ao had it, so the Huga family couldn’t find Ao during the nonsense of the war

One of the biggest thing's i've always felt annoyed by is the fact that the Uchiha clan in the show outshines the Hyuga so often. It always bothered me a bit because there both spouse to be these massive power houses but one is nearly always forgotten about. (also because i personally kind like the idea of the Hyuga clan's jutsu bit more).

Plus there's the fact that Kaguya herself had you guessed it, the Byakugan, not the sharingan or the Rinnegan or the tenseigan or whatever. Her eyes were Byakugan. So why is it somehow that worse versions of worse versions of Kaguyas eyes have all these mystical powers and hacks but the Byakugan is just like "oh yeah, you can just see a bunch of extra shit".
I mean the connection between Kaguya and the Hyuuga is barely even mentioned at all. It's just all about that Sharingan.

If you consider danzo evil then itachi is just as evil. Danzo did horrible things but it was all for the sake of the village. Everything he did was to put the village in a better and higher position. He definitely is not a good guy but he had his reasons for doing what he did. Itachi, Pain, and Obito all could be considered evil even though they somewhat tried to redeem themselves

This is a really fun theory. On that final note, I always thought the seal was connected to the chakra network. So removing an eye from a living Hyuga would disconnect it from the network and so the seal would activate and destroy the eye. Weather or not it would destroy both is up in the air.
I still say he took it from Kohinata. He had 1 eye and didn't have a curse mark so the byakugan wouldn't destroy itself. He only got 1 from the corpse or something of him and went to live on with it.

What if it was Mukai Hinada’s one biakugan? What if he was selling secrets to the hidden clouds also and Ao was just lurking and watched him die so he took advantage of itachi’s victory and obtained it that way?
Itachi and Shisui were sent after him to kill him, so I guess they would have done what the video said and gotten rid of the body

Mukai kohinata (probably butchered the spelling). The man who almost beat itachi and shisui. Only had one Byakugan. Was selling secrets to the mist. Was removed from the hyuga clan so wouldn't of have had the curse mark. And was killed by itachi and shisui, non hyuga members who don't concern themselves with the confines of a clan. He was killed while running from the hidden mist. So it would stand to reason that they would find his corpse. And he would only have one Byakugan to steal. I thought about Ao when you released that video. Even danzo said if a hyuga turned traitor they'd be executed immediately

Lol for the strongest clan they sure are sidelined very easily. I think it was just bad design of their abilities. They learn this fighting style that has a high floor but low ceiling when compared with other abilities in the Naruto universe. Other characters have access to a ton of jutsu and special abilities, but the Hyuga we've seen basically only fight with the gentle fist style. Which is great for the absolute defense, but offensively how does having to hit someone 32, 64, or 128 times to shut off their chakra flow stack up against something like a lightning fast punch from the raikage that can kill you in one hit?
I think the gentle fist should have been a smaller part of the clan's identity, more comparable to the Uchiha with fire style.
I think that they're the strongest because they probably have a high population so theirs probably alot of them.

It makes sense that the hyuga’s curse seal damages the eyes somehow, but was that ever mentioned. I thought it simply messed up their brain, I recall something along the lines of “turn your brain to jelly”.
I always thought the reason we never found out about the missing byakugan was because he only managed to claim 1, its naruto cannon, and real life fact that capturing an enemy alive is harder than killing them. Perhaps after managing to take the first eye in the initial fight, he and his squad immediately retreated because capturing a byakugan was such a huge prize that it was more worth it to leave withnone than try and claim another. Or perhaps the Hyuga died during the attempt to take the second eye, as they were now suffering from heavy blood loss, shock, and presumably were trying to defend themselves against at least 3 shinobi.
What if Ao lied about where he got the eye and he's part Hyuuga? As in he only inherited it in one eye. By the time it awakens and Ao's started claiming he stole it, the Hyuuga haven't yet put the Seal system into place. It's much more beneficial to allow this distant relative to keep his story so they can use him as a reason to control the branch family.

The Uchiha and Uzumaki clans didn't show weakness that resulted in their extinctions. They showed the exact opposite, strength. Scary, rare strength to be exact.
Their genocides were also preemptive but not easy to pull off. The two clans were so strong and feared that it required their enemies to surprise them and bring overwhelming force (Uzumaki) or complete stealth (Uchiha). We only know details about how the Uchiha Clan fell, and that was done by a secret assassination from an inside man. If it wasn't for Itachi, Konoha would have waged war against the Uchiha which would result in pulling multiple other Hidden Villages into the conflict and escalate it to becoming a Great War. It took one or more villages fighting a war against Uzushiogakure to destroy the village and scatter the surviving clan members to the point the Clan was never unified again. This was done during the early days of Hidden Villages so it is likely this war resulted in one or more Hidden Villages officially being formed.
Both Clan's (near) complete genocides were in response to their power, like it would for the Hyuga Clan. Eliminating the Hyuga Clan would be incredibly difficult.

byakugan isn't like sharingan in the sense it's ocular can be stopped by covering it, it's obviously covered so people don't see the white and want to steal it from him. And he activated it at the kage summit, that's how he found out danzo was putting dude under genjutsu. So no, it's not covered because he can't turn it off.

Well in the 4th war hiashi was on the front line. So main branch members are on the front line also, so if mist won one of those battles, it's possible ao took it being one of the few survivors. They didn't go after it because that would destroy the peace
